Hi.I was wasting some time on Google Video, and I found this one.This man believe Earth (and others planets) are expanding ...According to Wikipedia, this theory is not new, and is serious. After all, if the Sun (and stars) grows, why not the "core" of planets too ?

LED Grow Lights

I've been an avid rosarian for many years, and am finally getting around to trying to grow miniatures indoors. I've been looking at some of the commercially available LED grow-lights, and they're insanely expensive, not to mention bulky and unattractive. It occurred to me that a lot of the info here would be highly relevant to such a DIY project. What I'm wondering is how many LEDs would be needed to produce around 2000 lumens in an approximately 1-foot square for one rose? I'd gladly listen attentively to anyone who can comment on this with some degree of authority.

LED Grow Lights

The Rundown... Ok, well, I was looking into writing an instructable (assuming that I can assemble it myself) on how to make your own LED grow light. I've got a few hours of research in to it and I was trying to figure out the most cost effective to way to build my own... ( I know it's normal to spend $300 on a grow light but I just can't justify it. :-/ ) Does anyone out there have any experience with different wavelengths or can anyone recommend locations/LEDs to buy? The little bit of information that I have as of right now is all single source so anyone with a bit of experience would be a lot of help. Thanks!

What kind of board/setup would i need to control lighting power and add timers??

Im quite new to electronics bought a bunch of capacitors/resistors/diodes etc like a year ago with 2 picaxe 08m kits and a breadboard and never touched them since i bought them. Was wondering what kind of board i would need that could control lighting duration with a timer for my indoor "tomato plants" From my current knowledge im pretty sure an arduino board would be best. Help would greatly appreciated and a link to some tutorials about electronics would be very helpful too. Sorry for my grammar I'm not a native English speaker.

LED and wiring help :D

I am planning on making a small plant grow light for a locker but could use some assistance with some electrical components and wiring. I wanted to run a fair some of LEDs off of a battery to help grow a plant in an otherwise enclosed space. I need to find an appropriate arrangement so that I am not changing batteries all the time. I would also like the lights to turn on and off every 12 or so hours. How would I go about setting up the LEDs but even more than that how and what would I use to set up a battery powered timer?

How would I grow a giant crystal formation?

how do i beef up a yard light to grow a plant?

The yard light will be just to give light for the plant for night ... batteries charged by day.... if i added an extra solar cell to the yard light and connected more batteries to be charged would this do... how many  l e ds to grow a plant? how many batteries to power these  l e ds would i then need a relay to switch the power back in the morning i really have not thought enough about this so ... any help and ideas would be nice.....???

I need a LED grow lamp that has a slider (like a dj deck) that mixes red to blue to white. ?

Possibly with around 100 bulbs. Maybe using those 4 pin RGB leds? Could someone build something like this? I want to be able to change from vegetative cycle to flowering cycle using just the one lamp setup.

I have  been researching online  ways to  produce  bio fuel from algae at home. I have found  numerous ideas and was  wondering   if anyone has  tried to actual   put  it to work? How do I power my 50 red 3-watt LED's and my 20 blue 3-watt LED's without using resistors to make a panel?? PLEASE HELP

I am no electrician and am having no luck searching the internet on how to power the LEDs. I am trying to build a grow light with 50 - 3 watt Red LED lights and 20 - 3 watt BLUE LED lights. The total power consumed would be 210 watts. Specs for Blue lights: DC Forward Voltage (VF): 3.2 Vdc ~ 4.0 Vdc DC Forward Current (IF): Typ 650mA Specs for Red lights: DC Forward Voltage (VF): 2.0 ~ 2.8 Vdc DC Forward Current (IF): Typ 650mA I know a lot of things on the internet call for resistors but for this project, resistors would give off far too much heat. I know that an LED driver can be used in place of the resistors, but I don't know anything about voltage or amps. I have found a few 200W LED drivers that connect to an outlet and convert the power to a 24V DC, which is usable by LED's. I just don't know if that's all I have to do: connect the driver to the LEDs in a parallel circuit. Actually, I don't know how to find the Constant Current Module that I need at all. PLEASE HELP ME!

Do people make requests for instructables too? + growing glowing geodes + making your own slime

Hey, I saw a instructible or two featured on here that reminded me of something that has prompted a question in my mind. Is there a typical way that people make requests for instructibles, aside from comments on existing instructables, or here in the forum? Or is this forum the typical place (I haven't scanned through to find out on my own)? Anyway, I have a request that I'll try to lay out here... In a badass local toy/education/science shop, they sell these kits of weird or "gross" science experiments. Like growing glowing geodes, making volcanoes, making glowing slime...stuff like that. The problem is, these kits are a bit pricey, but they DO have an ingredients list on the outside of the box. I took photos of the kits/lists in the store, with the idea that I could probably find info online to be able to replicate the "experiments" more cheaply by picking up the components elsewhere. I haven't gotten around to it, and so I thought Instructables would be the perfect place for people that would do the same thing and share the info to all of us. Specifically, I really want to do that glowing geode thing. Some of the other kits were pretty spiffy too, but I don't have the info in front of me to give you further details. (I'm sure I could google around, and eventually I'm sure I will).

LED Math Help

I want to create a LED grow light but i am having trouble with the math. I have 5 blue LEDs that are 3w( Vf: 3-3.4 v and If:700ma). Now i want to wire these in a series. So if i were to use two of these for example, would it require more volts and the same current. So: 2@3v = 6v @700ma.

Piezoelectricity Experiments. Help Needed!

I'm currently experimenting with piezoelectricity.And at the moment my experiment is limited to just a few piezo sparkers extracted from cigarette lighters.The sparker works with observable voltage spike on my multimeter. No voltage spike however when I use the tiny crystal (the size of a zippo flint) taken out from the sparker.I was trying to replicate this experiment (without the oscilloscope):Piezoelectric Rochelle SaltAnother thing, Would continuous vibration produce continuous voltage?It is known that piezo crystals produce high voltage, yet very low current. What are the options to increase the current? Would winding un-insulated copper wire around it (or any kind of contact with conductive metal) increase the current? Apart from lighter, what other surplus sources of piezoelectric crystals (i.e. quartz, PZT, Rochelle)? Can the crystal in RC toys, radios be used to generate electricity? Although there is the option to grow my own Rochelle salt, I'm not looking into it at the moment since it's going to take quite a while to grow.Thanks in advance!

Using a 1500mA LED driver to power 1400mA of LEDs?

    I am building a light panel to grow lettuce indoors and need some help. I am relatively new to electronics and trying to learn. The LEDs are: Max. Forward Voltage: 3.0-3.6V Max. Forward Current: 700mA The LED driver: DC20-39V 1500mA +-5% I have done the calculations and will be using 20 LEDs in 2 strings with 10 LEDs in each resulting in 1400 mA at 36.0 VDC. So I bought the LED drivers stated above with the current knowledge i had. But after learning about Constant Current LED Driver, I'm not so sure anymore as the LEDs will not draw what they need, instead be supplied with a constant 1500mA. Am I correct to assume that the LEDs will be fried driven in this configuration? Is there a way to make it work or is the only option to buy a 1400ma LED driver? Many thanks!

Well, I was thinking about hosting my own PHPbb forums at home, just as an experiment, but the forums may grow a little, but stay relatively small.  But if i do that, will my Internet Price skyrocket, or are they mostly Unlimited bandwidth? I also don't have the budget to rent webhost.

DIY autoclave? Ideas?

Does anyone know of a way to build an autoclave? I know that they are essentially pressure cookers on steroids, but would a standard pressure cooker truly sterilize something? No, I'm not trying to give myself tattoos or attempt surgery on the cat. It would be mostly for biology experiments, such as swabbing cultures. I could get one on eBay for about $150 minimum, but I don't really feel like spending $150 to grow bacteria. Any ideas?

Is it good idea to change Simple Recover Model into Bulk-Logged on ETL system?

We are having an ETL process which inserts lots of data into tables. This database is set to Simple Recovery Model and the transaction log is growing a lot. I was thinking that would it help to set this database into Bulk-Logged Recovery Model? We are taking full backups on daily basis. So is there some operations which are not logged in Bulk-Logged Recovery Model compared to Simple Recovery Model?

How do I power my LED's?

I posted before with unknown specs on the lights, but I now have the specs. I have 50 Red LED's and 20 Blue LED's that I would like to make in an array for a grow light. I was thinking about gluing them with thermal glue on flat aluminum bars that are 2 inches wide in a rectangle with about 1 inch spaces around them because I don't have heat sinks. I think they would be able to dissipate enough heat if I use them in conjunction with a fan. Here are the specs for the red lights (50): 2.4mV forward current 700mA blue lights (20): 3.2mV forward current 700mA If I'm correct, I need 84 watts for the Red LED's altogether; 44.8 watts for the Blue LED's altogether: combined wattage of 128.8 watts. Previously, I stated that these lights were 3w, each. But I would rather save life on the diodes and run them at this lower power because they still give off a great amount of lumens. Can anyone give me some directions on how I would construct this array? (what drivers to use, how to wire the LED's together, and how I could make the system plug into my wall outlet (standard USA socket)). THANKS!

Predict the Future! ...of data sets

I just made an excel spreadsheet, that predicts the future of data sets. My main reason was because I wanted to have a way to predict my Instructable views, but this could be used for a lot more. This is not completely accurate (as it uses the best fitting line of the data) so don't believe it completely. To use it, just change the first two numbers (at least) to values you want to see grow. This is for you  Printed  Circuit  Wizards Here is my problem in a White LED  layout,  See first picture Trying to pass excess LED heat to back side copper through VIAs I know the larger the VIA Dia the lower the thermal impedance. Intuitively as the hole grows it will eventually make heat transfer much worse  What or how do I find the OPTIMUM VIA Diameter for Heat TRANSFER ??

Algae biofuel oil refining?

I have long been a fan of the idea of renewable energy from algae colonies, but I have yet to find any information on actually refining the oil produced with the algae.  I am well aware of how to remove the oil, however at that point it is just an organic crude.  Is their a process to refine it to a more diesel or gasoline-like state, or is it efficient enough to run an engine on the crude.  I am currently growing a reasonable algae colony and would appreciate assistance in doing something with the algae after it is grown.

A SIMPLE instruction guide on statistics and chemistry?

Statistics and chemistry equations are some of the most complex calculations for people who did not grow up in a science background but are essential for students looking to further their degrees in fields that require bio chemistry while students excel in practicals its the calculations that cause problems like log, ph calculations, various option in statistics when to use which rule. A better tutorial for college level statistics and from basic chemistry to college level would be appreciated by various students the world over. Parallel circuits question

I am trying to make an LED grow light and I have an electrical question. I want a simple light grid, but I am not sure on the math. I understand how to calculate a the resistor needed for a series circuit with a power source and several LEDs, but I do not grok the math for parallel circuits. Can all of the parallel series equal the total voltage? Do I just add the amps from all of the LEDs to figure how many series I can run parallel? Or am I completely off track? Thanks for the help!

Colored Lights- How do colored led lights work and what do they emit?

I'm doing an experiment by growing plants under colored led lights, so do led lights emit specifically one color. For example does a red led light emit only wavelengths of light that are red and no others. I want to make sure that only one color of light is existent to get accurate results. I hope this makes sense. Also if you know of any 1-colored high watt led lights please link them to me.

DNA Plasmids for use in transformation of plant cells? Answered

Recently, I found a kit to transform E. coli with GFP (green fluorescent protein) plasmids, causing the bacteria to fluoresce under UV light. I later found a kit for maintaining an African violet tissue culture, sparking the question if it would be possible to use the plasmids intended for use in E. coli in the African violet tissue, causing the violet tissue to fluoresce, which can then be transplanted to grow into a full glowing violet plant. Would the plasmids be usable in transforming the violet tissue, or would they be specialized to just the E. coli?

HI! I am wondering if .999...=1? I mean if 1/3=.333 and 1/3+1/3+1/3=3/3 and 3/3=1. So wouldn't .333...+.333...+.333...=1? But it actually equals .999... not 1. How do I measure AC current (0 - 7 Amps) using a microcontroller? Answered

 I know how to design microcontroller circuits using PIC/ATMega processors but my analog experience is lacking. I understand I can use a transformer to transduce the current going through  a cable, or use a Hall-Effect based transducer in a similar fashion. How do I scale the output voltage of the transducer (DC in the Hall effect, and AC in the simple coil) to match the -VRef to +VRef swing of the A/D converter built into the microcontroller?  The only thing I know about analog circuits is "ground" is the place you grow roses... What is a good science fair project? Answered

In school we have science fair and i need to come up with a project. I like mechanical things not growing plants or anything like that. one year i did centrifugal force then another on the otto cycle but never got in :(...i have to use the scientific method, i was thinking something along the lines of how different nitro rc fuel percentages effect nitro engine preformance but thats kinda obvious and lame. i was also thinking of making a stirling engine but dont know how to fit the scientific method into it plus i never got any of my engines to work :( Just let me know if you guys have any good projects i can do? like i said im mechanical but i dont really have any tools to make stuff.
