Main Image?

I'm trying to upload a video and everytime I do it tells me that I do not have a main image. I have a profile picture but don't know what else that would mean?

Question by leah.skelton   |  last reply

Profile Image

Maybe it's just me, but I'm noticing their is a LOT of people with no profile image. I would love to find and/or make a profile image for somebody who needs one or wants a different one. I'll go as far to design it from scratch, or you can just have me put your username on it, or if your lazy I can just find a really neat one on the internet for you. If you want me to design one for you but don't have specific specifications for how you want it, you can simply leave a comment telling me some of your interests, and I'll try to find one that will represent you well. If you don't want to leave a comment, feel free to PM me.

Does anybody know where i can get highly detailed satellite images? Higher than google. Google has this thing that you can pay $20 to get better quality, but to me that seems like a rip off. Anyone know any places to get better pictures? Thanks

Embedding Images?

Can anyone direct me to a resource on how I might be able to embed images in the text portion of an instructable instead of the standard way of just attaching them to a step by dragging amd dropping to the top of each step? I'd very interested in how the great mikeasaurus has been doing his Instructables recently. As an example check out this one https://www.instructables.com/id/Name-Puzzle/ That format just looks so much better for certain projects and if he can do it there must be a way.

Pixel by Pixel Image?

There are many uses for a pixel by pixel image generated using simple values, however there doesn't seem to be an easy way to do it.  I have used excel and its shading by value feature, but this isn't always the most effective method.  So assuming you have two coordinates and a value between 1 and 1000 (like a temp or rf intensity) how would one easily create an image from this data (array or matrix). Matlab or Mathematica? The goal is to make a kind of radio telescope that measures rf intensity with an arduino and then creates an image based on the values spread across a matrix.

Instructables image quality

Am I just imagining it, or did Instructables' thumbnail and preview images used to be much higher quality than they are now? Personally, I'm a fan of PNGs for their lossless compression, but I'm fine with lossy formats like JPEG as long as the quality is high enough that there isn't blatant distortion all over. But when I look at thumbnails and preview pictures on instructables now, I can't help but notice how crappy they look with all the distortion. My question is whether the decision to use low quality thumbs/previews was made in order to conserve disk space, reduce bandwidth, or improve load times?

Optical Image Stabilization

Hi everyone, I have a little awkward question here but I am sure someone who knows a little bit more about electronics can give me good advice. I took apart the lens from a consumer video camera and took out the Optical Image Stabilization module in an effort to figure out how it works and possibly hijack the signal so I can control the movement. In the camera this module is getting the signal from the accelerometer so it knows how to engage the two electromagnets and counteract the movement (shaking). What I have done is take the leads that go into it and try to fake what gyro sends to this element. So far I have noticed that when I short 1 and 2 or 3 and 4 the element goes to one side or up. So I put a potentiometer on it (2K ohm) and it gives me some control by turning the dial, but not good enough. Has anyone any idea how can I achieve a gradual movement of this lens element vertically and sideways with a slider or dial of some sort? Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Coordinates of an object on a passive image

I have a few questions regarding a project I'm working on. I need some terms so that I can look it up via Google. I have a map (picture) of a city that is printed on a wooden table. When I move an object directly over it I want to know the coordinates of the object on the map. And also the angle of the object on the map. I thought a sort of a scanner is the best solution. That recognizes the part which it scans (part of the map) and translate this to the coordinates and angle. Does somebody know how this technology is called (and maybe a few links to guide me in the right direction)? Or does somebody else has a better idea how this can me realised? Thanks in advance!

How do I scale an image's print size?

I'm printing some images that need to be a specific size. I've been using Gimp to edit them, and Gimp allows you to scale down using inches, but I'm getting different sizes from each image even though their all supposed to be the same size. I'm assuming this has something to do with the images resolution, but I'm not very graphic design savvy. Also, the images are being saved as pdfs. Any suggestions?

Image Processing Tutorial : What you do for your images?

Image Processing Tutorial : What you do for your images? Are you in possession of images you want to convert in to digital form? Or simply you would like to perform some operations to enhance their outlook?  Similarly if you just want to extract some useful information from them, all you need is a photo house that carries out image processing. This is where you can have a photo you want manipulated made  the input as you give  specified characteristics you want included. To do image processing, you may have to apply a set of signals that can give you   the desired results. There are three distinct steps to follow in any image processing. They include: Importing images using a scanner or a photography Analyzing and manipulating images using enhancement and compression methods Altering the results we obtain at the output level There are plenty of reasons for carrying out image processing; the reasons and purposes are as follows: So that you can easily observe the parts that are not visible Restoration and sharpening the images for the purpose of making them look better Image retrieval – if you are interested in any particular image, you can have it retrieved. Identify the number of elements making up a pattern Distinguish the object and its image. There are   two methods that can be used in processing any images. Digital Analog If you are analyzing hard copies and printouts, this is what is referred to as visual techniques.  It involves use of various fundamentals and image processing techniques. You need to make use of technicians who are vast in image processing. They may use visual techniques and apply a combination of individual knowledge and experience in image processing. If your pictures are in a digital form, you may employ digital processing techniques to manipulate those using computers. Images collected from sensors and satellites can be manipulated to get the real images or data.  To do this, you need experts who can take the images collected into a number of phases before coming up with the required images.  They must have the latest skills to help them get over flaws and get original information. The data or images collected may be taken through the following phases; Pre-processing, Information extraction, Enhancement and display. Other than image processing service, you may need team   to deal with computer graphics. This is where any desired image is manually made using physical models. It could include lighting, environment and natural scenes. This graphics can be used in animated movies, computer vision and plays. It can be used to create moving images to depict a story. Generally, imaging is key in image processing. The designers should consider a number of factors including; Human visual – where the designers consider the psychophysical process that takes place in human beings as they make sense out of information they see and receive. Lastly in all these, ensure that you get a clipping path company that is vast in imaging and which can work hand in hand with you to ensure that you get the required results.

Trouble with cover images for Instructables

I have been recently seeing this problem. Whenever I click an image upside down on my phone and edit it to flip to normal, it gets corrected and comes in the correct orientation. After uploading the image on the editor, everything looks fine, even after saving the changes, but after refreshing the page after a while, the cover image again flips upside down. If anyone has solution, kindly look into this issue.

Offensive Images on Search Engines

This is a Topic I've been wanting to discuss for a while, Offensive Images on Search EnginesYou've probably searched on google for a perfectly innocent image for something, only to get some what most will consider some very offensive images, mainly the male member (please stay classy on this, no comments I beg of you)This has really become an issue as these people insert popular keywords into these image sites so they will appear if one searches for something completely unrelated. This is truly a problem for moral people trying to go on with their regular lives. These cases have also moved out of search engines, as many of you will unfortunately remember hello.png ( I extremely warn you, DO NOT GOOGLE THIS! EXTREMELY OFFENSIVE> YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED NOW INSTRUCTABLES NOR I TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY RESULTS OF NOT FOLLOWING IT. )I would like to see your points of view in this topic

crt monitor image distortion

I have huge 21 inch crt monitor which i found yesterday in the trash i plugged it in now. it works but the image has some distortions the color that should be black is bright gray and all other colors are like addition to it. the image looks very bright and with bright gray tint. setting brightness and contrast to minimum does not help much there are some kinda scratch lines across the display. the lines form a shape of a 'lightning' with horizontal lines and diagonal that connect them. the density of lines is higher when i switch to higher resolution the image size is severely affected by the brightness of what is displayed. it grows larger about 1 cm on each side when i open a window with white background other than that the monitor works ok in all resolutions from the bios screen and up to 1600x1200 what can be the problem ?

how can I embed images in an instructable ?

I embed them using the img html tag. The image is correctly shown in the edition window. When I press "preview", the images are no longer shown. I have tried different sizes and formats, some have briefly worked (= were shown in the preview window), but all ended up disappearing at one point or another.
