Project X is Finally Here!

Can you believe it?!::flourish::Project X is here! After those seven approximate months of the unfinished instructable sitting in my pile, Noah finally encouraged and motivated me to finish it (even while my teachers were still throwing work at me).So, without any further adieu, I give you....==PROJECT X==For those of you that don't know what Project X is, check out my internship log starting here, up till day nine.

Scripting, PHP, Html and such.....For Dummies!!

I noticed from when Eric made a post about internship in 2006, that many people have experience in scripting and such. But I also noticed how many people would like to learn, but all the big words keep them at an emotional distance.I was thinking that maybe some pros could de-mystify all them big terms for the people who might be interested in this. Mainly, Could people please post resources that could be useful to people who are interested in learning this. Or maybe some Instructables?I think that if you could simplify these to the very basics, for nth9 graders with very basic knowledge, they would have a great advantage in the future. Here are some resources I found could be very useful to complete beginners:W3School - Thanks to KitemanP.S. I Include myself in the group that wants to learn but is scared of all the big words

How can I build a Solar Powered Camera for Car Detection

Hello, I'm looking to build a solar powered camera that detects cars moving past and takes a photo. I've been trialing an off the shelf model that relies on software to detect motion but it does not perform well when the cars are travelling over 15km/h. For this reason I'd like to try and develop a camera that senses the magnetic properties of a car (like traffic lights). I'm open to suggestions but here's how I picture it working: Magnetometer detects car > Micro controller > Camera > Micro controller > 3G/4G antenna > Internet. The system would need to be powered by a battery which is charged by a solar panel. Send me an email and we can chat on how to tackle the project. I work for an environmental consultancy so we can provide you with proof of an internship. impact.environmental.ptyltd@gmail.com Thanks.

Creating Database

Hi All, To be honest, I don't know if my inquiry fits within this forum, but I really had no idea where to post what I need. I am currently interning at a non-profit nature center which relies heavily on volunteers. As art of my internship, my supervisor would like several databases created. I don't know what program would work best for my needs and I was hoping somebody could give me a few ideas for what I need to create. Here is what she would like: 1. A volunteer database that is searchable by the training and expertise each volunteer has received. Let's say for instance, that we are having an insect program and only those who have been trained for the program can volunteer. I need to be able to search a keyword or from a drop down menu individuals who have received this training. A spreadsheet would suffice, but some individuals have so many training sessions that it would get a bit long. We also have over a hundred volunteers. 2. A teacher database that shows the grades and classes each teacher in our system teaches. We have school groups come out, and if their is a fourth grade program, there is no reason to contact every other grade teacher. 3. This is the really challenging one. We have rental programs, and all users must complete rental information which includes name, contact information, type of rental, and emergency contact. I would like to go paperless with this and if somebody rents more than once they have to fill in the information every time. I would like to be able to search their name and have all of their information come up, then input their rental type and time, which would give me a list of how many rentals we have had per day/week/year and how much money we have made. As I said, I could just make a spreadsheet for the first two but I would like something a bit more sophisticated. If I was not clear about anything, please let me know.

POWERING ATOMIC REACTOR CLOCKS:LASER SOLAR PANELS:USE LASER LIGHT NOT SUN

USING LASER SOLAR PANELS(NOT SUN LIGHT LASER LIGHT) INSIDE ATOMIC REACTOR COULD MAKE REACTOR FIRE SAFETY WITH USING FIBER OPTICS THAT HOLD LIGHT ENERGY TO TRANSFER ENERGY IN AND OUT OF ANY ATOMIC CLOCK: FIBER OPTICS CAN MOVE LIGHT THROUGH ANY BEND OR SMALL TO REACH PLACES AND THEN TRANSFER ITS LIGHT TO ENERGY WITH THE FOLLOWING IDEA. BY SHINING LASERS ON SOLAR PANELS THAT ARE INSIDE ATOMIC AREA DEVICES TO GIVE THE PANELS ELECTRICITY FOR REACTOR CLOCK AND REPLACING ALL DANGEROUS WIRES THAT SEND ELECTRICITY TO ATOMIC PARTS OF NUCLEAR PLANT. WITH NEW FIBEROPTIC WIRES TO SEND PHOTOVOLTAIC WIRES THAT SEND ELECTRICITY WITH LASER LIGHT. VERY SAFE COMPARED TO WIRES THAT WHEN CUT MAKE SPARKS OR FIRE. FIBEROPTIC WIRES ARE SAFE IF CUT ONLY NON DANGEROUS LIGHT WILL BE LOST. AND COULD REDUCE RADIATION FROM CROSSTALK THAT COME FROM REGULAR COPPER WIRES. One more idea can you charge a solar panel battery recharger by shinning laser beam on the solar panel cells in places were there is no sun light using laser light which can charge a device from a range of up to a football field if needed. This might be used in caves or evenin drilling for in off shore oil rigs were there really is no light in deeper water. And all other light sources of light would be distortedby reflection from the water. Only a laser beam could recharge aelectronic device by using photovoltaic in deep water where sundon't shine and only a laser will not have all of its light reflectedbecause of the water's reflection property, you would only be able touse laser light properties has less water reflection than normal light. BY HUME SCIENCE INTERNSHIP FIBER OPTICS TO SEND LIGHT INSIDE ANY TYPE OF ATOMIC AREA AND CONVERT IT ONCE INSIDE CORE INTO ELECTRIC POWER AND SAFELY DECREASING RADIATION PROBLEMS. THIS IS GOOD BECAUSE LESS COPPER WIRES ARE NEEDED.(ONLY LIGHT WOULD BE TRANSFERED IN CASE OF WIRE IS CUT ONLY LIGHT WILL ESCAPE MUCH LESS DANGER. USING FIBER OPTICS TO SEND LIGHT ENERGY ONTO SOLAR CELLS INSIDE REACTOR/THIS IS A GOOD SAFETY TOOL BECAUSE IF FIBER OPTICS ARE CUT ONLY LIGHT WILL BE EXPOSED AND NOT DANGEROUS ELECTRICITY WHICH WILL CAUSE RADIATION PROBLEMS. TO SEND ELECTRICITY INSIDE THROUGH OUT REACTOR//: INSIDE ATOMIC RADIATION AREAS. THERE ARE NO NEED FOR ELECTRIC WIRES. IF ELECTRICITY IS MADE INSIDE REACTOR CORE, BY SHINING INFARED ON SOLAR CELLS OBJECT NOT SUN LIGHT ONLY INFARED LIGHT ON THEM PANELS. THIS LIGHT HAS TO BE LASER OR INFARED BECAUSE IT CAN BE CONTROLLED USING INFARED LIGHT THIS ALLOWS IT TO BE MORE CENTERED THAN SUN LIGHT CAN. REDUCING ATOMIC RADIATION IN ATOMIC REACTOR CLOCKS. AND NOT USING WIRES. A ATOMIC REACTORS CORE CLOCK HAS TO GET ELECTRICITY. THIS CAN BE DONE WITH SOLAR PANEL CELLS PLACED AND CONNECTED TO THE CORE'S CLOCK. THEN BY SHINING LASER LIGHT OR INFARED LIGHT ON SOLAR PANELS THAT ARE INSIDE THE CORE CAN GIVE AND GET THE LIGHT ENERGY POWER IT NEEDS TO RUN TRANSISTERS AND COMPUTER CHIPS. FROM SOLAR PANELS THAT ARE CONNECTED TO THE CLOCK INSIDE THE CORE. AND ARE BEING GENERATED BY CONTROLLED LASERS THAT ARE ALLOWED TO BE AT VARIABLE DISTANCES. CAN ELECTRICAL ENERGY BE TRANSPORTED BY A LASER. SURE JUST SHINE IT ON THE SOLAR PANEL AT NIGHT AND YOU WILL GET A LITTLE ENERGY, SURE IT WORKS. CAN A ATOMIC REACTOR GET ITS ENERGY VIA LASER LIGHT INSTEAD OF WIRES DOING THE TRICK. NOW WITH LASER OR FIBER OPTICS. WIRELESS ELECTRICITY CAN BE SENT WITHOUT WIRES.ELECTRICAL WIRES COULD BE THE PRODUCER OF STATIC RADIATION. WIRES DO SEND ENERGY INSIDE THE CORE AND GIVES ENERGY FOR THE CORE'S REACTOR. CAN THIS IS ALL DONE WITH NO WIRES INSIDE THE CORE; IF WE ALLOW ENERGY TO BE SENT VIA LASER LIGHT TO A CONVERTER OF SOLAR PANELS COULD CREATE ELECTRICITY IF THOSE SOLAR PANELS WERE DIRECTLY SHINED ON TO BY LASERS. A GREAT DEAL OF WIRES COULD NOT BE NEEDED. SENDING POWER TO CORES WATCH OR CIRCUITS IS POSSIBLE. BY SHINING A CONTROLLED LASER ON THE INSIDE OF A CORE'S SOLAR PANEL CAN BE ACHIEVED BY FEEDING THE SOLAR CELLS INSIDE THE REACTOR WITH LASER PHOTO ENERGY LASERS WOULD SIMPLY SHINE ON INTERIOR REACTOR SOLAR CELL COMPONENTS. ONLY DIFFERENCE IS INSTEAD OF SUN LIGHT CREATING THE ENERGY IT WILL BE A HIGH POWERED LASER SHINING ON THE PANEL SOLAR CELLS. USE LASER LIGHT WHICH IS MORE DIRECT AND IS MORE FOCUSED OVER A LONG DISTANCE. LESS RADIATION AND LESS WIRE WASTE IS THE FINAL RESULT. HAVE A GOOD CLEAN DAY. THIS IS A NEW FORM OF TRANSFERING ELECTRICITY TO EXTERNAL LOCATION. USING FIBER OPTIC LIGHT AND SENDING IT AND THEN RECIEVING IT ACROSS A DISTANCE WITHOUT WIRES. THIS SEEMS SAFER TO ME BY USING THIS METHOD. REMEMBER THIS; WE ARE NOT USING SUN LIGHT IN ANY OF THESE METHODS ONLY LASERS OR FIBER OPTICS. THIS IS INFORMATION FROM A SCHOOL PROJECT OF MINE AND IF YOU CAN GIVE MORE ON THIS SUBJECT PLEASE DO. PLACING SOLAR PANELS INSIDE BUILDINGS NOT JUST OUTSIDE, AND CAPTURING OFFICE LIGHT 24 HRS MORE PROJECTS THAT I WOULD LIKE TO EXPERIMENT A INTERNSHIP WITH! PLACING SOLAR PANELS INSIDE BUILDINGS NOT JUST OUTSIDE, AND CAPTURING OFFICE LIGHT 24 HRS

Is it worth dropping $400 on a really nice oscilloscope (Rigol DS1054Z)?

I will describe my situation: I am a hobbiest that likes to make cool projects, and plan to get into maybe RF analog stuff, (maybe start out with making a few FM bugs, reverse engineer a simple video transmitter kit, and a few other things.) as well get into arduino some more, AC analysis (learn about Xformers, power factor, maybe some math, etc.) and I so currently have an old 2ch. 30MHz analog oscilloscope that is a PITA to make real measurements with. Not only is it huge and takes up a lots of space, but also I'm not even sure it is in cal!) I will be transferring into UVA (or maybe VT) for EE, and gone this summer for a NASA internship at langley. (maybe I will be able to take it with me w/ a toolbox of some electronics stuff!) The scope I am looking at (what appears to be what many subscribers seem to use, and/or claim is pretty good) is the Rigol DS1054Z. I only know how to use my $30 30MHz BKprecision scope I got on craigslist from the son of a father who was a TV repairman, and have NO experience with the use of the fancy-shmancy digital scope! What little I know is from watching EEVblog review of other scopes in the past. (I do know that they can be useful for 'capturing' waveforms, and can be set up to trigger on a pulse, maybe a certain digital codes, and that could come in handy for reverse engineering crap.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7v-tFYbc7h8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2qdtQkBKhc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETCOhzU1O5A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gStNYfqMXk What sells it to me, being a complete newbie to electronics and digital scopes is that it has a nice big screen, the specs seem good (other certainly think, I have no intuition of what any of those things mean except the bandwidth, and maybe the sampling rate, 1GSa/s), 4 channels, intensity graded display, and it has loads of functions and stuff for me to grow into, and hacking it to make it think it is a DS1104Z is tempting, but I probably will not do that right away. Maybe once I feel what it offered is limiting. The deal breakers is the $400 price, a bit steep for me (cheap for something this good, apparently but still.), the fear that by the time I really start using it, it will be obsolete and the same money can buy some quantum super duper ASIC tech whiz bang 3GHz 100Gsa/s 1GB segmented memory spectacular scope! I am not really sure if it has a source, or signal generator either. Some sources claim that higher end ones do, or certain models anyway, and it seems like the official site say's no. http://www.rigolna.com/products/digital-oscilloscopes/ds1000Z/ds1054z/ That brings me to my next point. Should I also get a decent function generator?
