Looking for someone in NYC who is savvy with electronics & physical construction for a window display project

Help Remedies has envisioned three window displays at a prominent beauty and health chain retailer in NYC. We're looking for someone to realize the ideas into physical window installations including sourcing the materials, building the various components, and installing the elements. The three different displays contain the following elements: 1. an interactive window wherein passersby initiate the activity by pressing a sensor on the window. This activates two small objects to release from the ceiling and fall into a receptacle. 2. two monitors or displays of some sort (could be a projection) which display two Facebook pages with live updating. 3. a large-scale printout with attractively merchandised objects. This is a contract/short-term freelance opportunity. Applicants should have relevant experience in electronics and physical construction. Email melinda@helpineedhelp.com if interested. Thank you.

How can I find people to make a custom CNC?

I have a fun, custom (one of a kind) CNC project and am looking for people who can design/build it for (or with) me. How can I find such a person or people? I am in the Bay area, and ideally these people will be local to me. The closer the better. I have tried the obvious to no avail...and thought the folks on Instructables could help.

Needed: Low start-up cost home business ideas that support/involve the maker community. Tool library, hacker space, etc Answered

Wanting to get out of the rat race, I am looking for business ideas that would allow me to be self-employed.  I have approx 5k in start-up capital and can operate without income for at least 3 months (possibly longer).  I would really like for my business to support/involve the maker community.  Some ideas that I came up with thus far are starting a tool lending library, selling kits/parts (similar to the Maker Shed or Adafruit), or a coffee shop with integrated hacker space. I am willing to work with a partner or a group of people so long as the chemistry is good.  I am willing to work long hours and weekends, forgo vacations and sick leave, etc.  I don't mind working like a slave when I am only a slave to myself and my idea rather than to some corporate monstrosity. So, does anyone have any ideas?

living- Animatronics - California

Hello,     So I have two things to talk about, one I have a few questions and two i have a story. -Story time !     So all my life I have wanted to do Animatronics, and live in California. Well last Tuesday I left my CEMS job (continual emissions                      monitoring), for many reasons. I have had this thought for a while to just pick up and leave. I did really enjoy my job but it was not what i had wanted to do, I was also tired of being lied to and disrespected. So my best friend was packing up the stuff out of his house and moving to another friends house. I told him "let's go to California" and he said "ok, sure" So we left, I had nothing but some friends and family tying me down anyways. So I packed up my Buick and his VW and we set off from Pennsylvania to California with no real plan what so ever. It was great, and still is, mostly ....  -Questions ?     So does anybody do any work with Animatronics, or live in California ? What is the best way to get in ? Wheres the best place to live in CA with access to good tech jobs ? -My experience is 3 Years of electronics, I am ETA certified, I have done FIRST robotics for 5 years and now mentor it, I also have tons of experience with computers/servers, also a good bit of CEMS experience. I am currently in Sacramento California, and just looking for some good advice Thanks Robert

What software do they use in The Italian Job to create the 3D renderings of the buildings? Answered

I was watching The Italian Job last night, and was fascinated by the 3D renderings of the buildings. So, my question is, what software do they use to do that? It seems like it just converts the video that they take into measurements and then creates the image. Is this even a real software, or did they just make it up for fun?

Electric Vehicle (electronics/components) question. What would be the best tool for the job? Answered

I am starting an electric vehicle project. For this project I have two motors, each powering to 2 fixed wheels. I will have a computer (Arduino-ish) supply power to these motors based on the graph of cos 2x (1 being 100% power ratio). The the steering wheel is the input of the degrees/radians. (Now comes my question) I will need some way for the computer to know what degree the steering wheel is currently at, (0 degrees= strait,  -90 degrees=90 degrees left, 90 degrees of course being 90 degrees right.) what would be the most efficient way of doing this?

Help needed for making the WIre Loop Game Answered

Hello, I wish to make the Wire Loop Game for a childrens' fun-n-fair. But I wish to add a simple SCR/circuit so that the buzzer sounds continuously instead of momentarily, once the loop touches the other wire. Can someone please show me or direct me to a website with a simple SCR circuit, which is easily available (in India since I'm from there) that can do the job? If a readily available transistor can do this job, that would be good too. Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks, Deboo

Milling machine cheep from Harbor freight

Ever wanted a small milling machine to mill aluminum ? Heres a cheep way to do it. It's not real accurate but it gets the job done. and for under $ 160.00. all the parts come from Harbor Freight (Drill press on sale 70.00) (roto zipp bit 2.99) ( 8 inch crosss vice 39.00) some bolts and thats it ! it's slow so take your time and the vice is a little rought but it gets the job done. Run the drill press at the highest speed on aluminim slower on plastic and use small cuts , don't try to hog out the part it will break the bit. have fun !! There you have it.

Getting sponsorship?

Hello everyone, I am currently by the end of my studies and I am also working as part-time.  Now I applied to be a volunteer for the Olympics and Paralympics for 2016 in RIO and have been selected for both which I am really excited for, but the only problem is that to be able to go over there It is very costly as I live on the other side of the world and I don't have enough funds and time is very limited to acquire those as well.   So what I need is to find a way so that I can get sponsored for my air tickets and take care of my accommodation.  Here are the things that I have been thinking and trying to do as well. First I looked for a job and I got it but the problem is that the pay isn't enough so that I can get the required amount to cover all my expenses.  I cannot get another job as I need to complete my studies before June so time isn't in my favour again.  However I think that I can work freelance online for short jobs such as 1 day to 1 month and If I can get as many as possible It should help.  SInce those won't be enough I need to look for sponsors but I do not know where to look for and how to do it and I was also thinking of getting a job in the US or even south america so as to be able to stay and work there for a while after the event so that I can take care of myself and explore at the same time before returning to my home country.   Any help. I really appreciate it.

The Bravery of Being Out of Range: A Technological Revolution

The 18th century gave us the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. Purpose-built factories for the new industries such as iron and textiles. New and improved methods of transportation, communication and production. It changed the way people lived / worked and it created / inspired a lot of what we still see and use today. This revolution had its negatives too. Jobs were lost to the industrial machines that did it better and faster, the poor and the working classes often had to endure grim living and working conditions. The black gold mined from underground, fuelled our thirst for advancement. Now in the 21st century, we are in the midst of the Technological Revolution. Ubers, drone deliveries, driverless cars and trucks, AI, Google, Facebook, Amazon Alexa, unmanned military vehicles, war by remote control and the bravery of being out of range. The drones, AI, robots and automation may not only take away our jobs, but potentially the need to leave the house or to have any real-world face to face interactions. They could re-define our lives, for better or for worse. Are you fearful? Wary? Or do you embrace the changes going on all around us?
