HACK FOR AN HP FOLDABLE KEYBOARD MODEL G750?

I've got a leftover FOLDABLE KEYBOARD for an HP iPAQ (circa 2002) -model G750- that I'd love to use with my current laptop (an HP). This is a wired device with a broad, flat connector - not a USB terminal.  Anybody had any success in converting this or this type of device for use with full-sized current model laptops?  Maybe its a conversion plug or an adapter??  If you know where to get one these I'd like to know. Thanks, KEY~

Laptop Keyboard

After a spill necessitated replacing the keyboard on my Satellite A135, about 1/2 of the keys, mainly on the left side of the keyboard, don't work. I can't seem to press the plastic ribbon cable of the new one into the connector far enough for it to engage all the pins. I tried reattaching the old keyboard, but can't press that cable in far enough either. There seems to be white mineralization on some pins in the connector. It's a very thin space, and barely accessible. How can I safely clean it off so the cable fits properly and makes contact with all the pins?

Backlighting a Keyboard

So a while back i purchased a keyboard that uses blue EL Wire to backlight the keys.  I like the blue, but i'd like to add some variety to it.  i'd like to add more different colors and a switch that toggles between the different colors (so i can change from blue to say red or green etc..) are there different voltages/currents for the wire that i should be concerned about? any other help/advice would be appreciated too.. thanks ahead of time!

Alternative to keyboard

On top is a joystick like an NES joystick. It registers 8 different directions: up, down, left, right, and the in-betweens of those and is controlled by the thumb. Then there are 4 buttons, one for each finger. The joystick replaces the trackpad of a laptop and hopefully is also 'clickable'  to act as a 'left click button. I'm not sure what would do the right click button. Combinations of button presses and joystick directions would replace the keys on a keyboard. I only have the use of my right hand. I initially thought of this as a device for handicapped people like myself, but it would also be good for people lying in bed. The concept maybe could be made into a cell phone case with physical buttons that would allow people to text without looking at their phones. The device is a lot like the nintendo wi remote, but not quite. Maybe a wii remote could be hacked to make a prototype. I wouldn't know how to do that and I wouldn't know how to program it, that's why I'm posting, to see if someone could tell me what kind of skills/knowledge would be needed to make this idea happen. Any suggestions or offers to help are welcome. Thank you!

how to change keyboard key assignments by rewiring keyboard

Trying to create a keyboard (steampunk design, but not necessary for you to know) with reassigned keys.  i would like to place symbols/icons on the keys and when someone is presented with an encoded message, they choose the appropriate keys and the message comes out in our normal alphabet.  if i don't reassign the keys, then someone familiar with the keyboard qwerty style can figure out the message without using the keyboard. i'm not very techy so pls. be as clear as possible.  i have found freeware out there that reassigns the keyboard keys but it is global and i need this to be keyboard specific since i'm designing the keyboard to look futuristic. it's for a scavenger hunt party.   thanks for any help out there.

How to miniturize a wireless keyboard?

There is a certain individual who I enjoy playing practical jokes on. I came up with a pretty good one but I am not sure how to pull it off. Here is what I want to do. I want to connect a wirelless keyboard to this persons computer in addition to the wired keyboard already on it. Then when this person uses their computer I can sit in the corner and type on their computer and flash the caps scroll and num lock lights. The problem is that I can't hide a full size wirelless keyboard. So I need to either make or get a miniature wirelless keyboard. I also don't want to spend to much money on this since it is just a practical joke. Thanks.

(Cheap) Dedicated Hotkey Keyboard?

I'm doing a project where I need a device that can launch multiple programs from shortcuts on the desktop without a mouse or keyboard. I'd usually just get an external numpad and map the shortcuts to that, but the programs use the number keys, so I wouldn't want to map shortcuts to anything on the numpad.  I'm not exactly sure what to look for, but searching for "programmable keyboard" only returns a few (totally overpriced) results.  Does anybody have any ideas?  It doesn't necessarily have to be pretty, but that's always a bonus.

Keyboard With On-Board Text Storage

Here's a thing I want, but have no idea how to build: THE INDEPENDENT KEYBOARD It doesn't care about computers! It save to itself! It's portable! There must be some way to build a keyboard that, once you turn it on, saves whatever inputs are typed to a plain text file on a thumb drive or SD card. Ideally, there'd be an on-off switch. When it's on, it's "recording" all inputs. Then you simply pull out the storage unit, plug that into a computer, and have your raw text. Any thoughts on how to pursue creating something like this?

I saw this on the MAKE Magazine blog.  A programmer (who actually knows how to bend metal :-) ) did a homebrew keyboard modification to allow himself to touchtype single-handedly after some left arm surgery.  Using his left thumb, he can hot-swap all of the keys on the left side over to the right and touch type with only his right hand. Read the whole story, including some guidance on construction, on Daughtrey.

Strange problems with the mouse and keyboard? Answered

Must be bad karma for the new year but both my mouse and my keyboard are playing games with me on the PC. Of course they are wireless, mouse is a Logitech, keyboard some very old Aldi brand. After many years of good service they started to fail at the same time. And yes, I tried fresh batteries several times with no luck ;) Here are the current symptoms: 1. Keyboard Randomly keys I press fail to show up although the blinking on the receiver indicates an action was received. When typing a bit faster, and for me that is the two-finger-best-hope method a lot gets lost. My speed is slow enough to make a bad typist laugh in tears LOL In some rare cases I also get totally wrong results, usually somethe graphical character that otherwise need and ascii input to appear. 2. Mouse At times when the keyboard plays up the little rodent does the same. Here it means the pointer disappears or moves in jumps. Also mouse clicks on let's say a tab in the bowser often grab the tab or are not registered at all. It is now starting to annoy me, mainly bcause I failed to rectify this problem in any good way. Only system change in or before the problems started was the usual Windows 7 monthly update, but that came about a week before it all started. To make things worse the mouse uses Logitechs old wireles tech while the keyboard is in a totally different frequency and as said dirt cheap. I also fail to replicate the problem consistently or find a common cause. Funny thing: If used on my old Nexus tablet both perform just fine even from over 5m away. Would love to hear some thoughts on things to try or check... But so you know: Tried the drivers, different ports relocating the receivers and even a rollback of Windows to a state from Nov last year. Everything else connected to the USB ports performs fine. Am at the stage where I even accept weird things to try, so fire up please!

simple electronic music keyboard

To all: I teach music in Elementary school. In my classes we play the recorder. In some of my classes I have some very special needs students. So they have been pushing on paper buttons that represent the recorder. They do a grate job. I would like to try and make something that can play the same pitch as our recorders and not have to change their set up very much if at all. Now they have a large black paper with circles of colored paper with note names on them. The push down on the note names as we (the rest of the class) plays the song. They are not able to play (hold the recorder) well enough to join in due to their special needs. They do seem to be getting it though. They can push the buttons at the right time. I thought if I could hook up something underneath their buttons with a small speaker etc........ What can I do that won't cost very much??? Thanks. Carmine

Controlling ServoBlaster with Keyboard Keys?

I am working on a project involving multiple servos, a pi, Servoblaster, and a short period of time left. What i was wondering, is that is there a "interface" of sorts for servoblaster that would allow me to control the servos with keys on my keyboard? I saw a thread where someone made an interface where you could switch between servo pins using left and right arrow keys, and adjust the servo with the up and down arrow keys. However, this could only be done one at a time. What i want, is to be able to control all 7 servos with 14 keys. Because of the lack of time (This is needs to be done before next week Saturday) i don't care if i have to access terminal with putty to control said interface. (A web page would be nice, but again, lack of time, and first i need the actual interface.) It really isn't an interface, i guess... I don't need to see what i am pushing/what is happening, so long as the servos move when the keys are pressed. I have a custom ./servod, which basically changes pin layout, and the max and min for the servos. Beyond that, ServoBlaster is vanilla. How would i do this? I haven't written any code for Servoblaster, nor any massive coding in general (I know basics of Python, nothing more.) Is there something like this that exists? Anyone have free time to make it? I am willing to try, so long as i am told what needs to be done. (Time is short, and i am busy. Though, i will still make an effort.) Thanks for your time!
