Micro Transceivers

Some years ago my university employees had trashed away some brand new stuff, included these micro ethernet tranceivers. I'm unacquainted regarding this equipment... does someone have some information about those specific models, and especially some idea about how to utilize them in a diy project? How they works? Thanks!

Micro High Voltage

I'm going to attempt to make a super micro tesla coil that is 100% contained (unless it runs off of like 12 volts dc, then I'll use a wallwart). Of course, one of the i biggest problem is the power supply. So this is what I'm asking, what's the best way of ramping up the voltage? A tiny toroid transformer? An inductor that gets pulsed? Voltage Multiplier? Something with static electricity? Some type of Inverter? Using Greinacher Cascades? A marx generator hybrid? Other stuff I havn't heard of?

I've done some looking and I've come up with a few ideas on how to increase power in the tail rotor and make it a little bigger....to hopefully make forward and reverse flight a little faster.... if I am succesful is there an interest in this? would it be wanted as an instructable? also... I realize its not a load bearing helicopter..... but any ideas on ultra light cameras I could try out?

Micro controller help

Hi everyone, I'm looking to get into the world of micro controllers but I have no clue how to decide on which one to start with. I have experience programming in VB on almost a daily basis and a class or two a few years ago in Java and C++. I don't anticipate programming being a hurdle. My main goal is to work with using my Android phone to automate certain parts of my life, such as automatically turning off the lights in the house and killing power to devices in "stand by" mode. I see a few books about the ease of combining arduino with android, but the reviews all state that the books assume proficiency in one or the other, meaning it's either targeted to an android programmer who wants to dabble with the arduino or someone who has micro controller knowledge who wants to incorporate the android. I have neither and need something basic for both. Something that starts from the very beginning. How the two connect. How they talk. Are their standard libraries and objects that they use? things like that. This is less a question/answer and more something I'd like to have some discussion on. Feel free to ask any questions if I missed anything. Thanks in advance.

Need help with this MICRO camera ...?

Hello ... I would like to kindly ask anyone, that is good in electronics for help. I add 3 pictures of the SPY PEN and my questions are about the small camera(JH 70-B). I would like to make this camera to make VIDEO via a cable (not to write it on memory) ... but just by a (RCA) cable so I can use any recorder I would like. I have a few questions, that are bothering my mind and I can't help my self :( 1. would the camera be able to give video signal by it self or does it need some part of the PCB board ??? ... (I mean ... if I would give + and - to some of those pins ... and find one pin, that would give the video signal) 2. If I need the part of the PCB board ... could you show me, where would be the VIDEO signal ??? And where would be +/- ??? In my (totally amateur) opinion, I think, I will need a part of the PCB ... but I don't know, which of all these components are part of the "camera"to give video signal. Thanks for any advise ... zholy

Dremel Micro Repair/Reuse

Recently at the end of 2016, I acquired a Dremel Micro cordless rotary tool from a garage sale/yard sale for about $20. I used it maybe 3 - 4 times until it didn't want to hold a charge for long. Basically when I put it on the charger, the LEDs scroll top/down indicating it is charging but after a minute or two they stop their normal scrolling sequence and they all stay lit up, which isn't even mentioned of in the manual. The fuel gauge battery indicator shows up red meaning it's near its battery life. At this point, I'm considering either to salvage the motor or buy a new battery for the dremel (which are 2 Sanyo 14650 batteries that are soldered onto a circuit board inside). I'm just wondering is there something that I have failed to do that would make the dremel not hold a charge? Thanks in advance!

I am trying to use a transistor to switch a 12v relay ? Answered

I am using a micro controller to switch a transistor which will then switch on a relay. I have heard that you need a resistor in between the output pin and the base of the transistor. Why is this and how do you calculate what size. Also the micro controller is running off a 12 battery which is regulated down to 5 volts for the controller. Can a transistor use a 5 volt source to active the base and then have 12 volts running through it activating the coil on the relay. I apologise for my poor electronics knowledge.

I have an updated control board and if it's not code protected I can then update other equipment still currently in service. I don't want to spend to much as I'm not sure if it's readable? The control board has a 10 way programming IDC socket on board to allow software updates... so I just need to link to this by the simplest / easiest method possible.

Controlling a servo with a Micro-controller?

So I decided to spend some time to make a "gimbal" in a very loose sense. Basically I was experimenting using a square wave oscillator to generate the correct PWM to have a servo rotate between 0 and 180 degrees when a tilt sensor is tripped. After some research multiple sites said having a 1ms pulse every 20ms would have it move to the 0 degree position. Great so I will make a oscillator pulses ~1ms on one side and 19ms on the other. However this does not seem to be working. I am curious if it is a fault in my math or if the tolerance on the parts I am using are just too wide to be any good. Here is a diagram of my set-up with the values a came up with. One spot that may be weak is that I just notice someone somewhere mentioned using 50Hz for the timing I just used that number when I calc my figures. Any feedback?  Also a side note is that I have been able to move the servo in one direction only and by accident ( in fact it's what inspired this project) when C1 & C2 were 2.2nF and the R1 & R2 were 10k potentiometers that I turned until something happened. Now that I am trying on purpose no results.

Mini/Micro Game System

Hi guys, I've been thinking. Really thinking. I recently found my Digispark (if you dont know what those are, google digistump, click on the first link and go to products, Digispark. They're really cool.) and decided to put it to use. I have always wanted to have/build something like a micro gaming system (sort of like the ben nanonote (if you don't what that is, google it, its really cool)) and decided that as a challenge, I could try implementing the Digispark as the Processor. I know that I wouldn't be able to run any games more advanced than pong, breakout or snake, but even those kinds of games would be enough to keep me interested while in boring situations. My basic thinking is this: There would a small lithium-ion rechargeable battery on the bottom to be a base (but still removable), the Digispark without any headers above the batteries, and a small LCD screen (1.8, 2 or 1.3 inch screen size) that would have either two pushbuttons (one on either side of the screen) or four pushbuttons configured in a D-pad style on the right side of the screen (how many buttons it would have depends on how many pins the Digispark would have open (if any), which also leads to my question, does anybody know any place to get video LCD screens (don't care if its color or not) that only take up 4 or less pins? I know that probably seems absurd, but if anybody knows any places to get them, please let me know. And just one last thing, is it possible to program games in the arduino IDE? Are there libraries for them? ANd if you can program games, just how advanced can you go?

How to connect a garage door photo eye to a micro?

I am looking at hooking up an old photo eye from a garage door to a micro. The end use will be in a device to detect if my dog is about to jump over the fence and take a picture as well as play some audio of me telling him to get down. The problem is that I don't know the correct way to connect the photo eye to the micro. I believe the transmitter site should be powered with 12V, but I would rather know for sure before frying the sensor. My garage door opener doesn't have a port for the photo eyes, so I can't check the outputs on it, but I was hoping someone here might already know, or might investigate their own open. Thanks for any help.

can i ground pin 4 on a usb micro to make a cable compatible?

Some of the usb micro cables i have for my solar cell battery don't work, but when i plug in the usb female adapter and use the usb cable i use for my computer, my droid x charges just fine. being the way i am, i had to know what was going on, so i got an old bluetooth headset and desoldered the female usb micro plug and put some leads on it. then i plugged the cables in and tested continuity and i found out that the cable that works had pin 4 connected to pin 5, but the one that didn't work had no internal connections at all. i find the position the cable sticks out when it's plugged in kind of annoying, so i might be able to kill 2 birds with one stone by making a small extender with pins 4 and 5 connected and just leaving the extender connected all the time or would my dx detect that pin 4 and 5 are connected without a voltage and cause problems? i would really like to just make this, plug it in, and not have to worry about cables not working or getting in the way, but i don't want to test this on my $600 device when i don't know what might go wrong.

Windbelt, Cheap Generator Alternative, Set to Power Third World

Working in Haiti, Shawn Frayne, a 28-year-old inventor based in Mountain View, Calif., saw the need for small-scale wind power to juice LED lamps and radios in the homes of the poor. Conventional wind turbines don't scale down well -- there's too much friction in the gearbox and other components. "With rotary power, there's nothing out there that generates under 50 watts," Frayne says. So he took a new tack, studying the way vibrations caused by the wind led to the collapse in 1940 of Washington's Tacoma Narrows Bridge (aka Galloping Gertie).Frayne's device, which he calls a Windbelt, is a taut membrane fitted with a pair of magnets that oscillate between metal coils. Prototypes have generated 40 milliwatts in 10-mph slivers of wind, making his device 10 to 30 times as efficient as the best microturbines. Frayne envisions the Windbelt costing a few dollars and replacing kerosene lamps in Haitian homes. "Kerosene is smoky and it's a fire hazard," says Peter Haas, founder of the Appropriate Infrastructure Development Group, which helps people in developing countries to get environmentally sound access to clean water, sanitation and energy. "If Shawn's innovation breaks, locals can fix it. If a solar panel breaks, the family is out a panel."'Frayne hopes to help fund third-world distribution of his Windbelt with revenue from first-world applications -- such as replacing the batteries used to power temperature and humidity sensors in buildings. "œThere's not a huge amount of innovation being done for people making $2 to $4 per day," Haas says. "Shawn's work is definitely needed.'http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/industry/4224763.html?series=37

soft serial communication on Arduino Micro.

Hello all, I have a few Arduino Micro units, and need to connect them together (in a mesh network) so that every unit in it is interchangeable, meaning that any unit may be in connection with more than one unit. As the Master/Slave form is out of question at this stage (because any given unit cannot be both Master and Slave at the same time, of course) I decided to go for a simple serial communication. However the Arduino Micro units (and frankly none of the Arduinos) do not have sufficient serial pins and I was advised to use Soft Serial instead. I was looking into the pin out of the Arduino Micro but cannot quite figure out which pins I can use for the serial comm.; I need 4 to 6 serial communications. Any help is much appreciated, as the nature of the problem may not be changed. So I need to solve it as it is. Karim.
