Power LED from RF? Answered

I have a maybe somewhat unusual question.There is a super simple circuit that enables an LED to be powered by ringing mobile phone. Can be found at http://www.creative-science.org.uk/mobile_LED_simple.html What I would like to do is to power LED but from a distance, preferably Radio Stations of (if possible) power lines. LED does not have to be constantly on or bright, it can "blink". I was looking at Joule Thief and combining it with capacitor ... The point is that there should be no battery. Is such a thing possible?

Basic RF control transmission

My goal is to press a button on my transmitter side and have the receiver flip a relay - that's all.  It's probably the simplest possible use of RF technology...  and it's almost impossible to work out on google.  I am trying to transmit and receive just a simple control signal about a range of 300m, so dismantling 27Mhz toy cars is not an option.   Has anyone successfully made a simple RF circuit before? I can buy a 433Mhz transmitter with this range, but they take FSK or ASK modulated signals.  From what i can tell, there is nothing simpler than the 'OOK' version of ASK modulation for transmitting signals.  If I'm wrong, please correct me.  Otherwise, if I'm stuck with FSK or ASK.  I found one site (bottom of PDF: http://www.edn.com/contents/images/101101di.pdf) providing a simple circuit to produce FSK.  I was hoping for something simpler, but if you think this is the easiest way, i'll give it a shot. Can someone guide me towards the correct ICs and circuits to create this project? Thanks in advance for your help

Low Gain in RF filter after the signal goes through the switch 2-18GHZ

Having trouble with an RF switch, getting low gain as it passes through the switch, I have x-ray the component, and all links are intact, no ESD damage that i can see, Does any one know what could be causing it to have low gain? possibly the RF track in the Switch? HEEELP?!?!!

IR or RF light switch.?

I need to replace an old (1940s) rotary switch.  It turns on 21, 20 watt/110v light bulbs on a display sign.  Each one in sequence.  Once on, each light stays on until switch is rotated backwards or all are turned off.  Currently, the switch is on a 10' cable with all wires forming the cable.  It is bulky and contacts are bad.  So, I'm hoping one of you wizards can give me instructions on how to replace it with a wireless remote and relays or whatever.  I bow to the experts. RF remote Microcontroller etc?

So I found this remote control deal http://www.lightobject.com/1Ch-Remote-TX-Unit-IC-1527-C1-case-P385.aspx For the past few months I've bounced around the idea of using a hacked remote to turn the lights in my room on and off. This, however, makes hacking stuff a non issue. However, I still don't know how to make the remote communicate with a microcontroller. The one I linked appears to have an antenna, which is undesirable, but could become an option if nothing else. I also would like to see if I can find a similar control that uses infrared. Right, so, Basically I want a remote that sends a single signal to some kind of Microcontroller. When this signal is received, I want the microcontroller to emit a single pulse to toggle a latching relay to turn my lights on and off. Where should I look to find ideas or buy parts? I already have an Arduino, but I think I'd rather build a knockoff for a permanent circuit. So thanks in advance.

Better RF Mouse Range

Hello. I got a Wireless Mouse that still working fine.The signal between the Mouse and its receiver is not so great, about half meter, and it stop responding. So I took apart the Mouse and its Receiver. The antenna of the Mouse is kind of steal (I think but its color) and the one of the receiver is coil of very thing copper about 3/4 turns around a piece of plastic. So as said I would like to increase the signal between both, for better rang. What I have found around the best material is copper, so here is my issue. Is it better to modify the antenna of the Mouse or its receiver?? Should I rather use thicker Copper Wire and do few spinning around a piece of plastic, or use a thinner Copper Wire and do a lot of spin around a piece of plastic. So what better for a strong signal: - thicker wire and less spinning or - thinner Wire and more spinningThanx for those that would give a some advise/recommendations. I am will upload pictures later when possible. PS: I manage to add to it a Switch to turn off the mouse to extend battery Life.

Wifi enabled remote

Hi, I have a remote for my fireplace.  It uses a RF of 303.87 mhz.  I was trying to think of a way to build something that could recieve a message over wifi that would then trigger the 'buttons' on the remote.  I found some RF receiver/transmitters but everything is for 315 or 430 mhz.  Will those work for 303.87? Or was this remote designed to not be easily cloned?

How can I reduce the signal range?

Any one know how to modify this so that you can adjust the range? Would simply adding a variable resistor to control the input voltage work? Or will I need an attenuator? RF antenna wiring (Possible error)?

For our truck scale, we have small remotes to automatically record the weights. The remotes just do not have the range that they should be getting (Sometimes we have to actually touch the antennas with the remotes). Before I ask my questions, let me explain how they are wired up. There are 16 remotes going to 16 channels in the controller box, The first set of 8 are on one receiver/antenna and the second set is just a copy of the first set. The antennas are just a small whip type antenna connected to the center conductor of the coax, there are then 4 more of those wires pointing down, these ones are connected to the shielding on the coax. There is a 75ft RG6 coax cable running to each of those antennas, This cable runs into the scale shack and connects to the f-type jacks on the controller box. Inside the box, there is a short piece of shielded wire going from the coax jack into the rf receiver. Here is where it gets weird, The center conductor AND the shield both are attached to a single screw terminal on the rf receiver. If my thinking is correct then this basically turning the coax cable itself into the antenna, Am I correct? Why would it be installed like this, Was it a bad installer? How should this be done for optimum performance? Thanks, Kade

I'd like to power some LED devices "remotely" using transmitted power. I've seen there are Instructables related to this www.instructables.com/id/Wireless-Power/ www.instructables.com/id/Wireless-Power-Transmission-Over-Short-Distances-U/ I'd like to create a power source that could energize a small LED circuit at a maximum distance of ~3 meters.  Even better, build an adaptive control, ensuring additional circuits are adequately powered, but design-limited to a safety max. My concern is to ensure the power source conforms to applicable United States regulations / codes.  I have a background in physics, but no experience in electrical engineering or contracting.  So I really don't know where to begin translating theory into device.  Can anyone suggest advice / guidance / starting references : What is the legality in the United states? Today I come to this forum to turn to you to discuss my understandings are appropriate. Here are my personal understandings: RF radio frequency is referred to as RF current, it is a high frequency AC change electromagnetic wave short. Less than 1000 times per second changes in alternating current called low frequency current, more than 10000 times called high frequency current, and radio frequency is such a high frequency current. RF technology in the field of wireless communications with a wide range of irreplaceable role. In the electronics theory, the current flows through the conductor, the conductor will form a magnetic field around; alternating current through the conductor, the conductor will form an alternating electromagnetic field, known as electromagnetic waves. When the electromagnetic wave frequency is lower than 100khz, the electromagnetic wave will be absorbed by the surface, can not form an effective transmission, but the electromagnetic wave frequency is higher than 100khz, the electromagnetic wave can be spread in the air, and the outer edge of the ionospheric reflection, the formation of long-distance transmission capacity (Analog or digital) with high-frequency current modulation (amplitude modulation or FM), the formation of radio frequency signals, through the antenna to launch into the air, the radio frequency of the high-frequency electromagnetic waves.  Long-range radio frequency signal received after the anti-modulation, reduced to the electrical information source, this process is called wireless transmission. Wireless transmission developed for nearly two hundred years, forming a large number of users and product groups, but because of climate change and the impact of surface obstacles, can not transmit the perfect information. Modern human invention of the cheap high-frequency transmission cable (radio frequency line), in order to pursue the perfect quality of information transmission, taking into account the original wireless devices, wireless cable transmission began to pop. Resulting in the concept of radio frequency transmission. Hi, I have this code and have modded it a bit, i was wondering if there was a way of making the pincode more than 1 digit long? Homemade wireless xbox computer receiver?

  I want to do this so i can use it on my laptop on the go but I still want to use it on my xbox (yes i am cheap) So i was wondering instead of soldering the wires straight onto the rf module  use something like a female printer port solder it on to the board. Would it still work on my xbox after?

how to make this device?

Hi, i want to make a device, please tell me how... there is something that looks like a tv remote . it has 9 buttons on it. And there are 9 light bulbs. when i press each button, each of the 9 light bulbs should light up. for example, when i press button 1, light bulb 1 should light up. when i press button 2 , bulb 2 should light up, button 3 turns on bulb 3, and so on. this needs to be wireless. i have done some research and i have found that i need something called an RF transmitter and RF receiver. I just need some hints on how to make this device. i hope it is clear what i want , english is not my first language, if its not clear let me know and i will clarify.

GM Universal remote extra button?

I have a GMC pickup with a 3 button remote.  I discovered that GM uses the same PCB for all its remotes, so I have a 3 button case surrounding a 4 button PCB.  I want to use the extra button to control an add-on to the truck.  Does anyone know of a way to acquire the RF receiver, what the part number is, etc, and how it would need to be wired in to allow control of external lights on the truck?  I know it would have to be wired into a relay to allow the kind of amperage I am thinking of...but what else am I missing?

Bluetooth vs Radio Frequency Answered

This is a 3 part question: 1. I am a bit confused. Radio frequency covers 3KHz to 300GHz, so it basically includes bluetooth(2.4 GHz). Why is it that some people talk about bluetooth as something not relating to RF. Do they have different transmission methods? WIFI is also @ 2.4GHZ. What is the distinction between WIFI and bluetooth that makes them so different, covering different ranges, and being able to send different amounts of data at different speeds. I always thought it was the frequency of the wave but WIFI and bluetooth are the same yet they are so different.  2. I am building a project. I need to send data wirelessly. The data is very simple just to turn on or off a series of leds. A friend of mine told me to use radio waves. What does he mean by that exactly since radio range is huge. Is he talking about 40MHz like the RC cars? 3.Bluetooth or RF(again im assuming this to be the same one as RC cars since i will break apart an RC car to remove the transmitter/receiver)Which method consumes less power to send the same amount of data. Hi - I'm looking for a project to build a handheld direction finder.  I would think you could do this using radio frequency.  Basically, I'd like two parts: the finder and the findee.  The finder would indicated the direction to the findee and that's it.  Not sure exactly what you'd call that... Multiple RFM69HCW with the same Node ID?

I wan wondering if it was possible to have multiple RFM69HCW (https://www.adafruit.com/product/3070) nodes with the same node ID on the same channel. My project I am doing involves a large amount of receivers and 1 transmitter in which I need all the nodes to receive the same message at the same time. Is this possible? I know the ACK wouldn't work as intended as from what I understand, but I am okay with that if this is so.

An Opps Purchase on Ebay Is it Salvageable?

So i have an 1998 dodge ram 1500 i purchase with no power options at all so i got power window regulators and replaced the door panels and bam I've got power windows. and since the door panels had lock buttons i bought some cheap 12v actuators off eBay and wired them up and bam. power locks.. THEN in all my creativity i was like i'll just buy an RF 4 channel kit and make it key-less. so i ordered this kit not realizing what type it was http://www.ebay.com/itm/320783435624?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_2920wt_1185 to summarize this kit requires you press one button to activate the a channel and press a second button to disable the active channel.. not at all what i was looking for.  Is there any way i can convert the kit i've already paid for into a momentary style. so as long as i'm holding the channel button down its active. ????  here are all the chip/ component numbers. 4x SRA-12VDC-CL 1x  SC2272-L4 - BD25D5D1 1x 9530FH~~~~~~ unreadable some residue on the chip a few caps a few resistors and an LED..  anyone think this is doable or should i just shelf it and get a diff kit?

Looking for a type of switch

Hi People of Instructables! I hope I am posting in the right place. I am looking for a switch that when you walk pass a point it shuts off and when you walk the other way past that point goes back on.   For example... I have a flash-light in my hand, when I walk through a doorway into a house the light turns off.  I go through the doorway the other way (to the outside) the light turns on. Conditions: It has to be able to do this through cloth as the flashlight could be in my pocket. It can only work when you walk through the doorway but not when standing near the doorway Does anything like this exist?  if yes what is it called? I have been searching the 'net and not been successful as I don't have a clue what I am looking for. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading my post! TheLastPrincess

Wireless, Wireless, WIRELESS! Help with circuits

Heyall, I just have a seemingly easy problem, but apparently it's not. Everything out there is wireless, doorbells, your electric car key, the fan control, garages, my bike speedometer. With so many wireless circuits, why is it so difficult to find a cheap, inexpensive circuit that a hobbyist can make? No, I didn't mean buy a circuit then mod it. I've searched all over and it's so hard to find a simple wireless solution that includes both a RX and a TX. I've seen Xbee but that's something I would have to use with my Arduino. It's also not exactly 'cheap'. So that get's crossed off the list. Are there any schematics for simple wireless RX/TX button or two that works up to 50 feet? What about schematics for a wireless circuit that works up to 100 feet? For my RC plane I have this TINY receiver that has six channels. The transmitter isn't that big either and it works up to 1 mile! But instead of paying 25 bucks for 1 mile and 6 channels, what about 1 or 2 channels for a 10 dollar circuit? See what I'm jabbing at? I don't want to by a doorbell then start unsoldering stuff from board to mod it! With so many wireless applications out there this should be a walk in the park! If you can give help me I would GREATLY appreciate that! Thanks!

Interesting TAP handle tech question \ quest.

Here's a weird one for  you guys. I recently bought a Beer tap handle and noticed that it had an insert that had some LEDs on it. Cool. The problem is that the LEDs don't light (beyond a tiny SMD red LED heartbeat). I found a small button that when depressed seems to trigger a test. Bright white LEDs on the top and bottom flash to illumnnate the top of the tap (either a clear baseball or FIFA tap topper) as well as the body. It's hollow plastic so it briefly glows. The problem is that I can't figure out how to light the things beyond the test (for which you have to remove it from the handle). The guy who sold it to me said they've sold lots like this and could never figure it out. I figured light sensor? nope. Tilt sensor so it'll flash when you pour a beer. Nope. I broke out  my loupe and noticed a funky thing on the circuit board that looked like it had an antenna. It was an Anaren A1101R09A. This thing is a radio tranceiver!  That tells me there was a remote with it that was lost in the few days after they bar got their new tap handle. Does that sound right? If so I was wondering where I could get or build another. I could put together some other LED solution, but I'd love to get this to work. HEre's a pic of the tap handle and the insert laying on it's side. The right side is the up side with the transceiver. It's blue if you look closely. Not sure I'll get a solution, but there's some clever people here, so you never know. Thanks for reading.

Can  raspberry pi/ Aurdino board read RF signal of (5-6 GHz)  ? Is it possible to take  input through RF cables to raspberry pi/aurdino board?

RF Module signal is too weak

Hello everyone! I am trying to build an arduino RF remote control to clone my remote control for my wireless sockets. I bought this RF module from ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-433Mhz-RF-transmitter-module-and-receiver-link-kit-for-Arduino-ARM-MCU-WL-/140847542952?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash;=item20cb2af2a8 At first I thought it was damaged because I wasn't getting any signal from the reciever. After many tries I touched the reciever with the remote and suddenly I got the codes (I want to recieve the codes, save them and then re-transmit them with the arduino). The same goes with the transmitter - the only way it works is when I hold it against my wireless socket. It means that the codes work but the signal is way too weak. I tried hooking it up to different power sources- Arduino 5V, Arduino 3V, 12V 1000mA Adapter, and the original battery of the remote that states 12V 23A. I tried making an antenna but nothing really works.. please help! thank you..

The best way to boost an RF transmitter?

Hi all, Here I have a small and simple FM transmitter based on a simple transistor oscillator, however, due its simplicity, is weak for my needs: I need to transmit the signal to a distance of about 33 feet. Notice that I will use the transmitter in a rural location and around the building there are no other houses, so I will avoid the risk to cause interferences to other people. Well, so I was thinking to implement an amplification stage, after the transmitter, and I ended up with the following schematic: http://s23.postimg.org/5o8kycjrv/Oscillator_and_Amplifier.png On the base of Q1 I have a female jack where i get the audio signal from an MP3 player. However I have some doubts about resistors values for the amp stage: these values seems too much great to me: I get the Transistor values (BFR36) from the datasheet: http://www15.zippyshare.com/d/nmSyQm6e/625003/BFR36.pdf and I calculated the values here http://www.vk2zay.net/calculators/transistors/bjtBiasing.php (choosing "desing given emitter voltage") The power supply, as shown in the schematic will be equal to 12 V DC. But as I've said I'm not very convinced of resistors values for the amp stage, which seems too much greats. On the other hand, due to the fact that the amp stage is an emitter follower, it will just amplify the current and not the voltage: would be able to give a decent boost on the signal output? What I can expect? Thanks.

Schematics for a one way RF Relay/Switch?

So my plan is to have a small remote with a single pushbutton that when pressed will close a relay on the reciver, I would like it to have a pretty good range of at least 1000 Meters. I thought of using XBees and Arduinos but i only need the signal one way and only a single channel. Any ideas?

RF Transmitting Shock Alarm Clock

I thought of an idea awhile back but I lack the "know how" to pull it off. I've been trying to teach myself some basic electrical and computer engineering but i'm still not learning what i need to know in order to finish my project. as stated in the Title, i'm trying to build an alarm clock that wakes up its subject with a jolt of electricity rather then noise, vibrations or anything else. the concept is to incorporate a miniaturized TENS unit (Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transcutaneous_electrical_nerve_stimulation into an arm band or ankle bracelet sort of thing but comfortable. then when it is time to wake up the alarm clock then sends a signal to the arm/ankle band thus making it active. then to turn it off you would hit the off switch on the alarm clock not the band.  that is the extent of my crude invention, however i am having trouble with the transmitting part. what would i need to make this happen?? i was thinking of using an old car remote for some of the parts and using the overall idea of it in my alarm clock except i need a transmitter and receiver and i have NO idea how any of that works. thoughts? ideas? please let me know

converting bluetooth message to rf 433mhz?

Can Arduino convert the incoming message from bluetooth frequency to Rf 433Mhz and then retransmit it at this frequency? if yes then are all arduino shields capable of doing this?
