Can someone help me with a step by step to allow Jasper to control GPIO pins?

I have Jasper up and running and have created a couple of basic speech modules but i cannot find out how to get it to use a module that needs root permission. i have read about import os but i do not know how to use it. Any help would be great.

Hi3516 Access Root Error

First, I apologize for my english. I have a camera module with hi3516 SoC and have to access to hi3516 as root. But I couldn't that. If I begin to explain from start. I had an IPC, extracted it and now I have 3 modules (camera module, ir cut module and power / api module). I found 3 holes on camera module, these are GND, Rx and Tx. I soldered them with 3 female jumper cables and connect to ftdi module. I used micro USB to USB for ftdi-pc connection. Powered up camera module with 12V. In while, I download a program, what name is coolterm, to my pc. I opened coolterm and set baud rate to 115200 (hi3516 standard). Camera module booted up. I pressed a button when I see "Hit any key to stop autoboot: 1" text. Until here I followed an article and everything is fine. But that article says "You have to press enter after to type "root" to gain shell access" and I can't access shell when type "root". I got an error like "Unknown command 'root' - try 'help'". Hi3516 has embedded linux os. Article Link: https://felipe.astroza.cl/hacking-hi3518-based-ip-camera/ Any ideas to help me?

How to rip data from a phone?

So my phone is now rather broken, im using a backup as a large portion of the touchscreen is no longer responsive, so my issue is that there are large amounts of data i would prefer not to lose on the phone in various apps and things that would not be saved to the sd card for instance the messenging service Kik, i have a lot of messages i would prefer not to lose  ive always thought when i wouldnt have an issue with a root going bad , for instance when i would have a replacement phone on hand, then i would root it and get the data off it so my issue comes down to is it possible to root a phone, retrieve the data WITHOUT needing the fully functioning touchscreen? for instance all through the computer  the phone's model is the T-Mobile MyTouch Q (without slide out keyboard)

how to "ROOT" samsung intercept for sprint Answered

1)     how do i "ROOT" my samsung intercept from sprint? i found a few apps that are amazing     ("wifi tethering", "set CPU", "root explorer" "root manager"), but  i need superuser (root)     access. can anyone explain what "ROOT" is and how to get it?     (update) I'm starting to understand "ROOT" is.) 2)      and what is  "KERNAL" 3)      i want to install flash player 10.1 on my intercept from sprint, but after i installed, it was the      same. do i have to root my phone? 4)     i cant find any good info on HOW to root the SPRINT INTERCEPT phone. 5)     which is better, the samsung moment, or the samsung intercept? 6)     is this the ONLY phone the SUCKS in EVERY SENSE (bad screen re;  unable to root;  no     multi-touch; android 2.1;  no flash support;  non-sensitive capacitive buttons;       unresponsive;  slow) 7)     (update), my phone updated today and now is running 2.2, froyo. now the capacitive      buttons work the way there supposed too. but i still cant i update flash.  and is rooting      gonna be possible (or at lest possible)? (re update 2011 Jan. 11) my phone still has no multi-touch (except for the "pinch to zoom" like before.but only on the browser); no flash player; and the hardware still SUCKS (bad res LCD screen, "EV-rev O" radio, ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE built in memory) some reason this phone after the 2.2 update, is a LOT slower and more unresponsive then before. 8) does anyone know how to root this phone and flash it with some better-suited software for this model phone (m910)

Not needing root access to mount drives?

I have been using sshfs (mounting SFTP servers) with MacFUSE on my Mac Mini (Snow Leopard). When I mount an SSH server, I can do it without having to be root, and i'm fine. My friend, on the other hand, tries to mount my SSH server, and it says access denied. He then runs the mount as root and it works fine. The issue with running as root though, makes it not accessible by Finder. He's an administrator on his computer (which is Snow Leopard on a MacBook (White)). How can he mount it as himself (his account)?

Dear friends, I am an academician in Faculty of Agriculture. Roots development of plants is an important parameter in our experiments. So I need to display the root length without remove the plants from the pots. I need to find the differences between cultivars or treatments about root length, efficient root depth and root area. If I can display it similar to example images, so if I can distinguish the roots by photoshop, It will be so useful for me. Is there any sensor, method or such thing that I can scan the roots without the damage the plants by using of arduino ? or any DIY device. Coloring is not important for me, I need just selection of roots. Best regards.

Rooted Nexus 7 maxing out cpu

I've had my Nexus 7 rooted for several days now, mainly for the use of multitouch gestures that I so loved on the ipad, and in that time my battery life has been terrible! I have found that there is only a few more processes running on the device (gmd gesture control and SuperSU) which are of course supposed to be there, but they seem to be maxing out my CPU  Every app I have used to monitor CPU usage (rooted or no) have all said my CPU is at 100% all of the time. After a lot of googling around I have still yet to find anyone saying anything about being rooted maxing out anyones CPU. My question is, Is there any way I can stop root access from eating my cores and my battery?

Such a shame! But then I was wondering, my phone runs on android jellybean. If I upgrade it to android KitKat, would I then be able to use the cable? Or should I just root my phone? Can anyone explain RMS vs average? (particularly the math portion, and the intuition)? Answered

My current understanding of RMS (Root Mean Square) is that it is the equivalent AC voltage/current/power necessary to drive a resistive load the same around as the DC voltage/current/power counterpart. However, I am a bit confused about the math involved that can apply to all waveform. I know the conversation factor for sine waves is 1/ sqrt(2), and that the conversion factor for square waves is 1:1 (no difference) On my graphing calculator, if I take the square root of the definite integral (from 0 to pi, integrating the x ) of the sin(x)^2, then divide that by the period, pi, I get the correct answer. However, what is the purpose of the squaring, then square-rooting? is it purely to perform a absolute value mathematically? If so, then I should be able to simply integrate the absolute value of the sine, and divide the result the the period the integration was performed over. If it period it was performed over was 0-pi, then there is no need to even take the absolute value! But this method returnees 0.636619... not 0.707106... Intuitively, it makes much more sense to me to somehow take the mean average of the continues |sin(x)| function. I know this can be done with desecrate numbers (a sequence, perhaps) and by taking the sum of them, and dividing it by the number of 'elements.' (series's, anyone?). I would expect this average is what determined the average power used by a load. EDIT: Wikipedia states that "The true RMS value is actually proportional to the square-root of the average of the square of the curve, and not to the average of the absolute value of the curve." So it appears I have just proven this. But Why???? What is so special about the squaring and rooting??? Please don't bombard me with heavy math, as I am not familiar with calculus, and have barely passed pre-calculus (The class was supposed to touch upon series and sequences, and integrals, derivatives, limits, etc. but due to show days and delays, the class only covered trigonometry --the bare essentials--). I do not yet fully understand single-variable integrals, let alone multi-variable calculus. I really just want a better intuition of RMS. More than likely, there is probably some confusion I have about integrals in general, and how to calculate them on-paper.

The future of mobile operating system or the end for "hackers" and rooting?

For mayn years it was almost logical to get full root access on your new smartphone or tablet. The other fraction might now it as "jailbreaking"...No one really needs it unless they are not happy with they way the mnufacturer designed the operating system and features. The removal of bloat, apps the user never needs, is still the most common reason for rooting.Custom ROM's offering a different experience are right behind. Now we also have TV's, entertainment boxes of all kinds, even from our ISP's directly. The main provider for the operating system is now Google with only a few "competitors" left.Apple has a strong hold of the mobile and tablet sector too but is not really presented in other areas.Android is still open source but Google heavily modifed it to suit the needs of data collecting and security for features like banking, access control and so on.What is good for the normal user and perfect for those with security in mind can be really bad for those actually just using a device. No matter why you buy a new phone from your provider, you almost never buy it for the added apps and services.Rooting has become more and more difficult. One reason of course is constant security updates and removing possible access options for even simple things like getting USB debugging and an unlocked bootloader.People dedicated to find ways to remove provider locks, creating custom firmwares or the basic tools required to work with firmwares were called hackers. If you buy a new car and decide to modify it with a new engine, seats or whatever than no one will stop you.So why don't we have the same rights for our electronic companions?I wouldn't call it hacking, I would call it actually owning and controlling your device instead of Google letting control you - or Apple, but who cares....The other reason is dead simple: Those guys who started it all have retired or found employoment with those they fooled for so many years.Chainfire should ring a bell for anyone ever concerned with rooting. The master is gone now and only a few people are willing to take his legacy. For Asian devices the community over there is better off but for our market region right now Magisk seems to be the only option left for modern devices. The sneaky ways to lock us out....Security comes at a price, simple as.You can offer secrity for money transfers if the device is not trustworthy.Same for online streaming - you want the money for what you give and prevent that someone is able to make unwanted recordings without encryption. The list goes on with access control system and literally everything we use our devices for that involves some security.Even with the lates PIE systems Google's own devices are still quite friendly in terms of gaining root access.Different story though if a manufacturer makes full use of all the latest addition at Google's disposal.Device security no longer starts with the boot we see.It is now possible to create a hardware based tree of trust. This means any modification to anything will cause a failure. This locks out all "tools" able to read out partitions and vital data while a device is in fastboot mode. And of course said fastboot can be fully disabled as well now.For security reason a so called A/B configuration is used.Updates come over the air and are applied to the dormant system.Next start will boot the new system and then update the old one, no requirement to manually apply and update. The recovery can also be abandoned and replaced by a system using a copy on the device itself that is updated through OTA updates with the firmware. So both ways to gain official access can be full removed from the user. From there we get encryption, hash checks and literally everything working in its own user space - a full SELinux enviroment at the highest level. There are already devices utilising a lot of this and so far the only way to get any sort of insight was done by those intercepting OTA updates on a router level. And apart from quickly changing the encryption with the next updates nothing was gained. Is it all coincidence?Of course not.Well known leaks were kept open for years.Kernel updates gave improvements and closed really old leaks but never all known ways. With the retirement of the best rooting experts these holes were suddenly closed.Checks of latest kernel releases showed that there is no known vulenerabilities anymore that can be misused to gain access. And those finding new ones and making them available for us are bascally gone now.Encryptions and packing algorithms changed, same thing for the actual handling of partitions and rights.Anyone with a decent understanding of how the old ways worked will be able to figure it out with some time wasted on it.From there however the outcome is often dark. The tools needed to work with these new files are not always updated anymore. The developer simply moved on and most of the time without publishing his source codes. And the still best way to protect your firmware from tampering is to encrypt it.In the old days it was enough to sign a ZIP file with a release key not available to the public.Custom recoveries allowed us to get around this. This still works to some extent but now we also get additional checks starting from the bootloader.A modified system will be detected and stopped and a stock system will stop i a modified boot is detected.Even using a custom recovery by flashing or through fastboot is preventable now.Right now the only way for most new devices is a total wipe and the installation of an unsecure firmware with everything. As you already guessed this is to prevent now as well.So does all this rooting stuff actually concern you?Of course not!If you never had any need for rooting or no clue what to do differently with a rooted device than you are a happy camper. But your neighbour or friend might think differently. You see, I have two problems when it comes to "stock" devices.a) I have no clue what data they collect from me and what it might be used for.b) I do not like being forced to agree to terms that are endless and of questionable content just to use the damn thing. For crying out loud: In most cases it is now impossible to even set up a new device without working internet and a Google account.....

questions about flashing my sprint intercept with custom rom

I would like to flash a custom ROM to my rooted intercept to get a more stable, higher tech android system however i have concerns.       will a custom ROM look zoomed in? i don't think so, i saw custom android builds working perfectly. but i still want to be sure!       Can i get a custom ROM that i can move most of the system files to the SD card? (i only have 160MB of internal storage, i cant install many apps. i would like a ability to move an entire app to SD. not 30% of it. also, the ability to move virtually all my apps to SD. i can only move half of them.)      WILL I LOSE SPRINT SERVICE? (im not talking about bloatware, like the real usability of the phone ex: calling, texting, 3G networking)      what is flashing a custom kernel? how?      what are custom jits?      what is SD partitioning, what does it do? is it similar to partitioning a hard drive on a computer?             please take a look down at my answers/comments for more unanswered Questions and concerns and keep updated on this question; i will add more questions. thank you in advance, -- max

is it possible to root my sam-sung intercept (sprint) with the froyo update? and what about flash player? [answered]

Is it possible to root my samsung intercept (sprint) with the froyo update? what really pisses me off about this phone is that it has NO flash player at all. ive tried installing it from the adobe website, Googleing "flash plater 10 for 2.1", and looked throughout the market. its not there (i thought it is there for 2.2 froyo but NOOOO this phone has to be horrible). also moved the app from "downloads" to "tunnybrowser> app_plugins" nothing works any suggestions? can anyone offer me some simple rooting and flashing this phone? also, will writing a sudo command in the "ROOT" folder work? it seems like i can. using this phone it so far seems i can "create" a folder in the ROOT folder. will this work or will it brick my phone? using some apps from the market, i discovered my phones CPU does not go higher than 199MHz. this REALLY UNPLEASANTLY PISSED ME OFF. NO WONDER WHY MY PHONE IS SO DAMN SLOW! how do i increase it to the 800MHz it was rated for? and what would happen if i tried to over-clock it to 1 ghz?

In this project. I want to use an arduino mega, 2 lcds, and 6 acs712 current sensing modules and 2 Lm2596 dc step up/down module The set up I have in mind is like so; arduino is powered by ATX stand by power (IF possible) there is a push button which turns on the programing to start the monitoring and also grounds the ATX and GReen wire to supply power to all the rails. This set up will calculate Voltage and current printting them on the lcd's. The constant voltages will be printed on on lcd and the variable voltages on the other lcd. Ive written most of the code. I just want it to make sense. Basic server management: What is best practice when uploading to /var/www/ ?

I recently installed Ubuntu server on an old PC and attached it to my home network - (only I use the network and it's wired). The issue is that (Having installed Apache web server) I am not sure how to remotely upload content. By default Apache uses /var/www/ to contain the web content that it serves. By default the write access to this folder is set to root (and no users or groups). Thus I can't work out the right way to use "scp" to copy files, because (being ubuntu) there is no actual root account. Should I just change the permissions of the folder to allow my user account write access or is this considered bad practice? Is there another or better way? Thanks in advance, Drew

Mac G3 password hacking?

I got a second-hand mac G3 for Christmas, from the sysadmin at my dad's office. Unfortunately, the sysadmin neglected to remove his accounts (and passwords), so as of yet it's impossible to get past the boot screen. Does anyone have any ideas about how I may crack the password or hack into the account... (changing the root password in single user mode doesn't work...) Oh, and by the way, it's running OS X of some sort, but since we can't log in, it's hard to know what cat it is. Help please!UPDATE:With the help of this site, we made an administrator account. We still don't know the master password, and there are a few untouchable files, but we can basically do whatever we want. The next challenge is to connect it to the internet...If you want to know how we got in, here's what we did:(1) we held down command (the propeller) and S as it booted --> this opened single-user mode, a command-line interface with root priveleges(2) instead of "rm"ing (removing), like the web site suggested, we "mv"ed (moved) /var/db/.AppleSetupDone to /var/db/.AppleSetupDone.old(3) we rebooted, and followed the instructions on the screenWhat did this do? It moved the file that told the computer that the computer was set up, so the computer ran the setup "wizard" like it was the first time the computer had ever been booted. After that, all we had to do was follow the instructions on the screen to set up an administrator (root) account. We also learned that the cat is panther, so we might be updating it to a newer version. Thanks for the help!

I own a 1st gen kindle fire. I use it alot, and bring it to school everyday, and was trying to figure out how to get a keyboard for it. It doesn't have any bluetooth but I have it rooted and as shown here custom kernel can get you far http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-F79sLcFwTU. I was wondering if anyone knew where to acquire a keyboard about 7" that is almost flat and doesn't use bluetooth but is still wireless.

What happens when you induce two currents of differing wavelength on the same line? Answered

If I induce two currents of differing wavelengths on a single conductive body, say an iron pipe for example, how can I calculate what the resulting signals wavelength will be? Is it as simple as taking the root mean square of the frequency of the signals? Any ideas for calculating the voltage of the final signal? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Example: Signal 1: 60hz at 100v Signal 2: 75hz at 100v RMS frequency sqrt(((60^2)+(75^2))/2) =  67.9153 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks  a bunch!

my flip camera won't work, and I need some files.? Answered

I got a non-working flip camera from my parent's friends. it just turns on, then back off. I'm thinking maybe one of the files is corrupted. if this is so, then replacing it should fix it. but I can't find anywhere to download them. so if anybody has a flip classic camera, then I would like the system files off of it. just plug it in and copy and paste the root to another folder and email it or upload it or something. just some way to get it to me. or, if you know a different way to fix it, that works too.

My clicker doesn't click anymore?

My ibook's clicker stopped working about 30 min ago for no reason. I don't think I noticed it doing anything weird before but I could be wrong as I usually "tap" my touchpad to click on something. I restarted it thinking that the hardware just glitched it self (don't play with your touchpad when you turn your mac on, doesn't do wonderful things) After realising that I hadn't gone into the root account since my reinstall to enable touch click system wide, I had a good time trying to log in once I was at the login screen (you'd think pushing enter would select your account but apparently not). Any ideas or is ma clicker all clicked out?

Power Electronics: power converter Answered

I have been running through example questions for an exam I have coming up; the following picture is a condensed version of half a page of working. My lecturer gave us the solutions and a few steps between beginning and end to get to the solution so we could work it out. However, as you can see the picture below I got 30.6A whereas she wrote 54.2 down. The problem is to "Find the maximum values of the average" (done this bit) "and rms thyristor currents for any firing angle, alpha.". The values of R and Vs are in the diagram. Alpha is assumed to be 0 since then the thyristors will conduct for the greatest possible length of time. I think she may have got to the end then forgotten to square root of Pi before multiplying Vm/2PiR by it. Does anyone agree?

Can I upgrade this particular BIOS?

I have an HP Pavilion a6042n desktop computer. The current BIOS is Phoenix - AwardBIOS CMOS Setup Utility. The current version is V6.0 the BIOS revision is 5.03   03/02/2007. I have another HDD that I wanted to add in with the original one. The purpose was to set these two up as a RAID 0 but while searching through the setup utility, I could not find anywhere to change my sata mode. I also cannot find my bootable usb when I'm rooting through my boot sequence all I find are the HDD group, the cd/dvd group, the network group, and the floppy group. So either I am being very dense or I really need to upgrade my BIOS...

SONY Flash Drive HELP!!!

Help!!! Today I had my flash drive with me and was working on some school projects. It worked fine in the morning. Though later I was messing with Batch and saved them to the drive root. Now when I plug it in windows waits for about a min. then says that new hardware was found. When it's done it says that the device is malfunctioned. I don't know what to do or if that batch file is even the problem. If it is I think that it changed the devices properties into making windows think it is bootable. I have plugged it into my Linux machine but still no dice. It won't even come up there. Oh, and I can't reformat it because it's in a way not there. I really need those files for school any way to get them back would be great. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Driving a Nook Simple Touch screen

Hello, I recently disassembled a Nook. I was going to fabricate a new case, root it and write a custom program, and present it as a prototype. However, the touch part of the touch screen no longer works. I have a few questions; answering any one of them will make me happy. 1) How can I hijack the touch interface? If I override the (broken) infrared touch input with a pen input, then that would be acceptable. However, I'm not sure whether the screen itself is broken, or if I broke something on the board from static discharge. 2) How can I troubleshoot and fix the touch interface? Speaks for itself. How can I get this working again? 3) Where can I find information on how to use this screen separately? My last option is to separate the screen and the touch completely, and build another tablet from scratch. Much appreciated! ~Ryan

Wordpress Woes - "Sorry you are looking for something that isn't there"? Answered

I recently scrapped my old website layout and went with Wordpress to manage my content. I installed it in the root directory, so at www.redtorope.com rather than www.redtorope.com/blog I want to add some static pages, in a directory under than, for sake of example lets call it www.redtorope.com/test/. Any file that I put in there used to be visible, but Wordpress has taken over and since it doesn't have that URL in its database it redirects the user to a "nothing found for _____" page. How can I stop it from redirecting to that page and allow me to have a few static pages (not like normal pages that wordpress lets you publish, I want to show someone a test design for a website I designed for them). There are ways I can get around it, like hosting on a different server, but this is bugging me now so I want to solve it. I'm guessing my problem is something to do with the Permalinks settings in WP or perhaps my .htaccess file but I'm not sure what terms to use in google to get my answer. Any suggestions?
