sensors and servos

I am working on a piece where I need to hook up 7 servo motors to the arduino (each rotating at a different speed, some in one direction, others in the other) but basically an on/off with a motion sensor. I am using a full rotation servo. I amusing an infrared sensor but the servo is still moving (awkwardly and jerky) when not sensing motion, but then runs as normal. Here is the code I am using (right now, I am only at 1 servo – trying to get the sensor right first) : #include Servo myservo;int potPin = 0; //analog pin used to connect the sensor int ledPin = 9; //select pin for the servoint val = 0; //variable to read the value from the analog pin void setup(){   myservo.attach(9); //set up the servo as usual pinMode(ledPin, OUTPUT); //variable to store the value coming from the sensor   Serial.begin(9600); //for watching the speeds in the serial monitor} void loop() { val = analogRead(potPin); // read the value from the sensor   val = map(val,0,600,0,255); if (val>80) digitalWrite(ledPin, HIGH); //turn the ledPin on    else if (val<80) digitalWrite(ledPin, LOW); //turn the LedPin off   Serial.println(val); delay(10); } – any suggestions?

sensor design

Any one please help!!!!! i am student of VIT university INDIA i am working on a project with ISRO (Indian space research organisation). we are inserting our payload which consists of 7 sensors. our sensors working temp is 273 kelvin but these sensors will be exposed to the outer atmosphere at an altitude of 80 km above earth surface where the temp is 197 kelvin [ our sensors will be placed inside, outer air will be sucked inside ]. at this temp our sensors wont work so we have to come up with a strategy which heats the incoming air in to the rocket to 273 kelvin, so please help us in designing the sensor so if you have any mechanism for heating the air please inform me. my email is     kapilkoundi@gmail.com

Sensor Question Answered

This is a hypothetical electrical circuit question, I'll try to clarify as best as possible. If you had a circuit hooked up to a light bulb, but controlling a the light bulb were two sensors wired into the circuit. One sensor turned the bulb on when there was no light, and the other turned it off when there was light. I'm not sure if that would be all one sensor, but garden lights work somewhat like that. Anyway, what if the sensors were mounted directly in front of the light bulb, facing it, so they worked based on its light. What would happen when you turned it on? Would it act like a strobe light or just explode, and would the effect be different with LED's? Also, would you need to put some other mechanism in to slow the sensor's signals?

sensors microcontrollers

Hiya guys is there anyone that can guide me to finding an instructable that deals with interaction in remote places using a micro-controller. For instance people in 2 different locations in the world, want to engage or enhance social bond or interaction by using a motion or proximity sensor and internet of things for instance triggering a sound or an led light that can be sensed in a remote location. So one location motion is detected and the other location this detection can also be seen, if that makes sense? For instance similar to this kind of project  http://goodnightlamp.com/ Could this be done? Thanks

Detect finger movements while playing a piano?

I'm planning on generating the sheet music automatically while playing  a piano. However i need to first find a method to differentiate the notes played by the left hand from the right hand. My lecturer suggested i find out the points in the wrist where pressure is exerted when each finger is flexed (left hand). Is there a way to do this simply? Or are there any products, such as wristbands with in-built sensors to sense when a finger is flexed? I only need to know how many fingers of my left hand are used at a particular moment while playing.

add proximity/motion sensors to any lamp.

Hello people of earth! I am making an installation about the Swedish summer. One of the main part of the installation are lights that react to you when you stand close to them. With react I mean, when one gets close enough, the lights should be switched on. if one leaves again, the lights should be switched of. Do any of you have an idea how this could work? I've been researching the web for ages, but with little result. Hope to get some feedback! Boris

What sensors / networking protocol should I use for this project?

Hey folks.   I'm a relative newcomer to the maker scene but I've been into GNU/Linux, BSD, shell scripting, Java and more for quite awhile. So here is my dilemna. Basically I'm trying make a device in which, let's say a child or dog, comes within 4 - 6 feet of an object and an alarm goes off.  However the trick is that the alarm can only go off when the particular dog/person is close to the item;  basically I have to pair two sensors or some type of communication devices together. I was thinking bluetooth, zigbee...unless I'm missing out on a particular sensor (or set of sensors) that could be paired together. Thoughts? EDIT:  Of course RFID would work, but the max distance is about 4 inches I think?

Hall sensor question

Hey all.I want to be able to measure the current draw through an AC wire in a confined space. I'm thinking hall sensors would be ideal for this due to small size and less chance of frying things (as opposed to a split-core transformer).Unfortunately all of the hall current sensor projects I've found here on instructables are for the pre-made ACS712 board. This is a no-go for me because of size, the need for cutting the wire to make the connection, and also cost is a factor too.Are there other options? I see a lot of three-wire sensors in through-hole transistor packages out there which would be ideal, but can you get the sensor voltage out of any of these, or is it strictly on/off?Any hints welcome.

Is it possible somewhat inexpensively to set up sensors for this game? Answered

I've got the lighting down... now I just need a way to activate it.  It's the classic ladder-toss, golfball horseshoes, what ever you want to call it... You throw a string with a ball on each end at a 3 rung stand and try to wrap your strings around the rungs.  I'm running a strip of LED's through each tier and drilling small holes so you can see the light emitting but am trying to figure a way to have the LED's blink for a few seconds when you score.  Thought about sensors in the balls, but sometimes one ball will be closer to a lower rung than to the rung you've actually scored on so was thinking maybe some kind of pressure sensor on each bar?  This seems too complicated to me, but perhaps one of you knows a way? I don't have an arduino and am on a bit of a low budget, but any ideas are welcome even if out of my budget I'll have something to think about on down the road.

Interactive lights with sensors and such

I am currently working of my BFA in sculpture and I have a couple of gallery shows coming up and it would seem that my ideas are bigger than my knowledge base (which is okay by me, but sometimes frustrating). My current work revolves around posthumanism and I am working to blur the lines between human and machine, working with circuitry, xrays, and prosthetics. I have one set of work that I am currently a bit stumped with. I have three copper PCB boards that I am going to etch into circuits, but the lines of the circuits will resemble human faces. Each board has a character: the introvert, the extrovert, and the antagonist. The introvert will be silent, but I want the lights that glow behind it to flicker faster, or get brighter when the viewer nears. Essentially, he is quiet, but has a LED driven anxiety attack when people approach. I did this with a dark sensitive photosensor thinking that the viewers shadows would activate the light. While it worked in my living room, I realized that the gallery lighting would not lend itself to this method. So my next thought was a theremin that had light output instead of sound output. Possible? The next two will make sound and light. The extrovert needs to seek attention. I was hoping to figure out something that would talk back when something is making noise around it. So it would need to pick up the vibrations of someone talking about my work, or possibly even their footsteps, and then begin to "talk back" (lighting up and making noise). Intstead of sensing vibrations I was thinking that proximity might be easier so maybe an IR sensor. (?) The last one hate the second one. I was thinking I might be able to do something like this with a kit I have that allows me to plug one circuit into another, , where I would have it sense the light or sound coming from the extrovert and in turn verbally assault him. However,it is not a definite go, still lots of kinks so I am up for any solutions. I hope this is somewhat coherent to you. If you could give me any leads on where to start, or any places to get good information/products, that would be immensely appreciated. Thanks for your time!
