Stepper Motors..

I recently pulled two stepper motors out of a working IBM dot-matrix printer. One larger, 3v one with 1.8 steps. The other is a smaller, 9.5v one with 7.8 steps. I am more interested in the large one right now. I managed to find out that the large one has center-tapped coils. I also found out that Coil 1 is red-white-brown, coil 2 is blue-black-yellow. I found the schematic below on http://ashishrd.blogspot.com/2007/09/computer-controlled-stepper-motor.htmlI was wondering how this could be adapted to control my motor from a PC program with the ULN2003 (that chip sounds like UT2003)? Here are the complete residences of what I found on the wires with a multimeter, in case that helps. Resistances:Red to Brown: 8 ohms (or 7 some times)Red to White: 4 ohmsWhite to Brown: 4Blue to Yellow: 7Yellow to Black: 4Black to Blue: 4

Wondering if any one knows how to control stepper motors via Hand wheels. By rotating the wheel you should be able to control the rotation of the wheel either clock wise or ccw. I do not want to interface the motor through a computer.

Arduino + Stepper

Hi! I have an Arduino nano and a Minebea PM55L stepper motor and I have to connect these two together. I read the Arduino tutorials, and got a ULN2003 chip. The thing I am unsure of is the power supply and which wires of the motor do what or should be connected to what. There's 6 of them and I really don't want to fry anything if at all possible. Could somebody help out, please?

Stepper motor driver?

Hi! I am trying to find a good h-bridge for a 3 volt stepper motor. Basically my plan is to build a stepper motor controller with an arduino for controlling various functions in a model kit. I have the arduino-kit and the motors. But I need a good reference for a h-bridge, but all i can find are chips rated for much larger drive currents. Also exactly how hot does a hbridge get when under load? I would like to integrate the bridges into the kit, but since it is plastic, I would like to know in advance how hot it gets, and if it gets too hot I'll have to look at another solution.Any help appreciated! PS. If you can please put the hbridge part ID in your answer for easy reference. DS.

Stepper motor controllers

Does anyone know where I can buy some bipolar stepper motor controllers and an H-bridge in one package? Or even better, schematics/pcb layout of a driver board?UPDATE:Does anybody have any experience with the Easy Driver? It seems like a cheap alternatives to some of the other available controllers, but I just want to know if you get what you pay for.

stepper motor question

Ok, i am trying to make a chain clock, its just a clock with a gear instead of a minute hand that turns a chain with 12 numbers on it. my problem  is; the chain i am using is too heavy for a conventional quarts movement. i would like to use a stepper motor but all the drive circuits i find need an arduino. are there any simple circuits i can make, to use a stepper motor for a clock? i do have some circuitry skills so i can work around some stuff. thanks for the help :)

Hello, I would like to use my 3 printer scanners I recently salvaged for a CNC. Would you expect the motors to be able to cut aluminum with a multi-speed dremel? If there is enough torque, it would be sufficient to make a 3d printer right?

Stepper motor voltage too low? Answered

I'm getting started with Stepper motors and I got one on ebay, it's MINEBEA NEMA23 2.5V/1.8 AMPS 1.8DEG/STEP (model# 23LM-C045-01H). I'm a bit confused by it's low voltage. Am I reading it correctly, it's 2.5Volts?  Stepper driver that I have requires at least 8 Volts (it's Arduino with rugged motor driver shield), so is it safe to drive with motor with voltage of 9 or 12 volts?  How would one drive such motor at 2.5VDC?

I need a stepper motor and stepper driver mastermind!!

Hey All, Bit of an odd one.I am currently building an electric camera slide with an auto-panning feature, the build is almost complete, intend to share the build process on youtube. The main goal here was to build an auto electric slide, that requires NO programming/coding, Making it easy for people who are not 'electronic savvy'.I purchased one of these R/C Drivers: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Stepper-Motor-Driver-2-phase-4-wire-Controller-Speed-Adjustable-with-Remote/32642556068.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4ddZKyq5 Super simple to set up, and it works. However, its steps are really big, so when the slide is running slow, it is basically shuddering/shaking.I have purchased some A4988 Stepper Motor Drivers, and the plan was to try and rig one of these up in series, however, I am very new to stepper motors and how they are set up. If anyone has any advice or recommendations on how I could wire these up together, It would be greatly appreciated.

Gears for Servos and Steppers

Hey guys (and gals), I've been researching this a lot, but I still haven't the solution.  When you are working on a project and you need a gear for your stepper or servo, where do you acquire it?  For example I work a lot with TowerPro 996 servos, but I haven't found any third parties selling gears for them.   Same thing for motors.  If you are using a stepper motor, like a NEMA or something where do you find a gear that attaches to it?

build a 3d printer with a standard stepper motor controller? Answered

Hey Im thinking about building a 3d printer, so I'm looking at the (endless) possibilities out there. Can I build one with a standard (4 or 5 axis) stepper motor controller (like the ones on ebay)?? instead of using an arduino (I saw on the internet that that's what they use on RepRap) (and since I'm building a 3d printer/ CNC I think it would be more convenient for me to use stepper motor controllers for "both" the machines, and besides that it appears to be simpler since I know nothing about arduino :( ) I was thinking I maybe could use a controller with 4 or 5 stepper motor outputs and then use 1,2 and 3 for the axis and then use the other one to "tell" the machine how much material it should "spit out" any advice?? or any other ideas for a SIMPLE 3d printing curcuit??

Note: the circuit attached uses the digital pins 8 , 9, 10 ,11 of the arduino while i'm using the pins 6,7,8,9 in my circuit. #include    Stepper myStepper(200 , 6, 7, 8, 9); void setup() {   myStepper.setSpeed(30); } void loop() { myStepper.step(200);   delay(500);   myStepper.step(-200);   delay(500); }

CNC help - Software?

I'm planning on building a X-Y CNC machine.  The issue is softwares.  My plan was to get 2 scanners, and rip out the stepper motors.  Then, as seen on an instructables, use a parallel port with 2 or 3 ULN2003 chips to control the motors. My idea was to do as they did, and use TURBO-CNC to controll the parallel ports, unless there's something better to use? Can TURBO-CNC read G-Codes?  If so, what is the best program to use for creating G-Codes? This project is starting with a 1W blue laser as a etcher / paper cutter CNC.  It it going to be used for getting my machine tuned up.  Once things are in good order, It's going to be turned into a 60W acrylic / 1mm aluminum / thin wood cutter.

Motors for Quadcopters

Hi, I am looking to make a quadcopter as my university project and I kinda run in to some problems deciding which motor I need to choose. I was thinking to choose brushless motors as they are more efficient and they give more RPM. HOwever, my professor says that there's no point using brushless/stepper motors as u can get the same RPMs using brushed motors and its the same thing. Hence, can anyone please guide me which motor is best to use and why should I use brushed or brushless motors. I shall be very glad if someone guide me through it. Thank you :)
