Stereo Stolen!

My car stereo was recently stolen.. Bummer. Here is my idea; I am tired of putting stereos in my car only to have them stolen. I don't want to buy another CD player w/ an aux in input for my mp3 player, since I don't really play cd's anyways. What I want to do is install just an aux input line to my car speakers and mount that easily in the empty hole. Is that possible? Do you somehow need to power the speakers? How do you go about doing that w/out buying a new stereo? My main goal is 1)to put something there that will run the sound from the MP3 player 2)not need a stereo to do it. 3)do this so no one would think it is something they could steal and profit from. HELP! :)

Ive seen how everyone has made a portable backpack stereo and i think that is a great idea but why not use a regular cd player with all its internals and speakers instead of going out and having to buy a separate amp and speakers and connect it all. I have a cd player disassembled and i want to replace the cd drive with what would be a line in to my ipod could this be done so i can use everything else but the cd drive?

control Stereo Volume

I have an old style Cassette SONY x-plod car audio stereo player for car. i have removed main cassette section & replaced it with an USB MP3/FM board with remote control. I made this because i believe in SONY's amplifier so successfully tracked amp track to get source from USB board. But here i got a problem with board which forgets volume level & restores to 25 level(Default range 0 to 50 level). so volume is boosting at high at every start of player. Now i want to Analog stereo volume controller between USB board's output & SONY amplifier's input. so what should be the configuration for volume controller??? Output target for amplifier is 4speaker(2x150Watts[Front] & 2x180Watts[Rear]). Does my idea works?? if it works what is the configuration for Analog stereo volume controller.??

I have an 70's style turntable/radio console.?

I have a Magnavox 591558.  The issue is that the audio from the turntable is diminished out the left speakers. The FM tuner works and sounds great, however when using the turntable, left audio is very muffled.  As a troubleshooting step, I hooked up a Stanton STR8-100 turntable, with pre-amp, as a replacement to the built in turntable, and get the same results.  Good audio out the right channel, but muffled out the left.  So I know the issue has to be somewhere on the circuit board, as the Radio is fine through both channels. I do not see any blown capacitors, or any sign of damage on the circuit boards.  I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.

Making an LG Stereo Adapter?

Hello, I have an LG GW520 and I have tried everywhere for an adapter to connect this to a stereo. I did find a company that advertised the adapter I needed but when I bought it it is the wrong size as the connection on other LG phones like the cookie models are different :( So basically I need an adapter with a 3.5mm female stereo jack on it. Is it possible to make one?... I've got lots of randoms wires and a headset that fits into the phone with one broken ear bud and a female stereo jack. When I've cut open the broken headset I've got two silver wires, and a purple, red and green wire bundled together and surrounded by fine copper and the female stereo jack has a black, red and brown wire. ....is it possible to connect these and how should I do it? Thanks for reading and I hope you can save my sanity before I just get mad and go an buy another phone that I can connect!

Questions about computer stereos

Hi! I'm building a portable amplifier from old computer-speakers and I have a couple of questions about them. 1. How do I make the stereo-speakers mono the best way? 2. Is it possible to make low- and high-pass filters to a simple amplifier as the computer ones? I thought I'd connect one bigger speaker (a whopping 5" one!) to amplify the low frequencies and one small to amplify the high frequencies. This would work the best with a 1-channel amp. Thank you in advance, hope you understand what I'm looking for! P.S. Please move the thread if it is in the wrong category, wasn't sure if it suited better under "music" or "tech".

I just hooked up an outlet that I've had in my wall since I've re-dry walled my room, and it's by itself on a single wire, I just hooked it up to a breaker isolated from the rest of them on my panel, and have JUST my stereo plugged into it. All of a sudden my distortion problems I was having at near full volume are gone. I highly recommend running your stereo on a seperete outlet for you audio freaks out there!

Car Stereo Antenna for In-Home use? Answered

I'm decent with working with modifying electronics, but I don't have much experience with antennae, reception, or any of that good stuff. I have plenty of experience with soldering, both wire connections, and motherboard components, so that's not a problem.. I already have my stereo wired to my computer's psu, with the pci-e power, and already have everything hooked up as of a year ago.. Aux In, Usb, and Sd all work fine, but I can't use the FM radio function, due to my lack of an antenna.. I've heard of bending a coat hanger, and shoving it in, and I don't like that shotty work, and I used to have an extension, or an adapter, (Not sure exactly what it was), but It got mediocre reception, and I gave it to a friend that I hooked up a stereo indoors for.. I can find such an adapter cheap, but I want something that will get AWESOME signal.. I know most components that require lengths of wire drop voltage, or signal over distance, such as power cables, Cat5 cables, so on and so forth.. So what can I use, modify, or make to get the reception I want, on a budget? I don't want a crappy fix.. I just want something affordable, reliable, and something that won't look too horrible. I have the stereo mounted to my desk, so not much will be exposed, depending on the length of said antenna, Thanks in advance!!

Home stereo stopped working possibly has burnt out voltage regulator? Answered

Greetings, My Altec Lansing home stereo stopped giving out sound.  There is still fuzz audible from the speakers, but there is no musical sound whatsoever coming through the speakers.  It is a simple stereo but with good sound.  It has one input Jack which has always been loose and finicky; as long as I carefully plug into the Jack and make sure it is a good connection, the stereo has worked fine.  One day however it suddenly stopped giving any musical sound.  I decided to open up the stereo and look inside.  First I tried bypassing the input Jack since I suspected that was the problem.  Bypassing the input jack however made no difference, there was still zero audio signal coming out of the speakers (still only the buzz).  I then looked around on the motherboard to check for any oddities. Everything looked normal except for one Voltage Regulator.  It is a L7809CV.  It has three prongs and a built in heatsink. The point at which it connects to the motherboard is slightly burnt looking as it is discoloured. In the upclose picture you can see two voltage regulators, the one on the left is the one which appears burnt. I was thinking this is likely the culprit.  Would anyone on the forum have any feedback to offer.  Do you think this is the problem, and would replacing the voltage Regulator likely fix the amp?

Building custom tiny stereo to output sound from two different sources

Hello there, I'd want to build a tiny custom stereo, small enough to be mounted on a forearm. It has to receive input from two different sources: my smartphone (should act as a simple mp3 player) and a head mounted microphone. As I'm not into electronics really, I would use some help. I've read this instructable as reference: https://www.instructables.com/id/Simple-Stereo-Amplifier/ I'm not pretty sure about what kind of speakers I should use and what exact components I should need. I'd want to use two speakers and I don't really care about stereo sound, actually I would prefer mono sound. Maybe I could use one speaker for the phone output and the other one for the microphone output. I'd also like to put the amplifier distant from the speakers, since the forearm mount should be as slim as possible, so I'd put it in the back trousers pocket, if I manage to make it small enough. As you see I'm kind of confused, I have ideas, but not knowledge. Have you got any guide or whatever I could use? Thank you for your help!

What's a TDA2822 equivalent?

NTE7155 and KA2209 seem to be equivalent to the TDA2822 (8 pins) but I'm trying to find an I.C. that is available on Jameco. None of the components I mentioned are for sale there. The TDA2822 is a low power dual audio amplifier. It is the 8 pin I.C. I've seen a few datasheets that showed a 14 pin I.C. instead of 8 pins.

tech noob question on stereo jack

Can I have a silly technical question for which I would have known the answer if I only paid more attention at school? how is possible that stereo headphones, ie 2 speaker circuits use only 3 cables? I understand the "ground" is the one that both speakers,ie left and right have in common but how come it doesnt bother the signals which go to the speakers? doesnt the left signal get mixed up with the right signal? and why is it called "ground" when it's not actually connected to the ground, like for example lightning conductor is? I've read through the wikipedia article about TRS several times but still can't understand it. thanks for answer, I promis I won't forget it this time :)

How to mix stereo & mono inputs for XBox headsets

Does anyone know the best way to merge/mix a stereo input and a mono input so that the stereo remains stereo, but the mono input can be heard across both ear pieces? I've got a project in mind to create a box which will do this for using normal headphones for my Xbox 360 in-game chat. I'm just not sure if I need to isolate the mono input with a diode so that it doesn't turn the stereo input into mono.

Troubleshooting help for connecting stereo components? Answered

Edited:  I'm having trouble getting all my stereo/TV components hooked up in the correct sequence so that each component functions as needed. All my components are Sony the cable box is Motorola (DCT700). TV (Sony KV-27FS13) with 4 input lines (Video 1, 3 & 4 from the back. Video 2 through the front panel.) Everything was rewired today to include a new cable box (due to the digital conversion) and I can see TV channels okay.  VCR (Sony SLV-798HF): On Video 1, I can view channels (when VCR is on CH3), and the cable box controls the channel, but I cannot record any other channel but the one controlled by the cable box. I can also view VHS tapes. DVD Recorder (Sony RDR-HX780): On Video 3, I can view channels controlled by the cable box, but I cannot record any other channel but the one controlled by the cable box. I can also view DVD's. I have a Sony Multi Channel AV Receiver (Model # STR-DG510). I don't know if that helps with getting this to work or not. I've included a detailed diagram. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, canucksgirl Currently the coax goes to the cable box, to the DVD, then to the VCR and then to the TV. RCA-DVD: from the cable box goes to the DVD player (in). From the RCA out goes to TV RCA in. RCA-VCR: RCA out on VCR goes to RCA in on TV.

A/V Cord to Typical Stereo Wires? Answered

I have a surround sound speaker system that only takes the typical stereo wires (you know, positive and negative electrode inputs for left and right side). I also have a stereo reciever that only provides A/V outputs. I was pondering how I could make these work when I realized that, even with an A/V cord, it still needs to make a complete circuit. Thus the cord needs to have two wires going through it, and the plug had a way to complete that circuit. Now that I know this, I want to know if I can cut the plug off of one end, strip the wires apart, and plug those wire ends in my subwoofer? If anyone knows if this is possible, please let me know! And please help me determine which wires are positive and negative current. THANKS!
