So, I'm working on this thing, its just an idea right now so I won't delve into it too deep, but I want to use a single RGB LED behind a frosted plexi screen as a Sun and another as a Moon, that will move on a clock motor. Could I get a white with a yellow tinge and a white with a blue tinge with a RGB and a few fixed resistors? I'm just wondering if that would be possible. Would I just set the red and green components to 70% and the blue to 100% for the moon and the red and green at 100% and blue at 70% for the sun? Thanks for the help. I don't have any RGBs so I'm just trying to theorize right now.

So recently I saw the 'ible on here about how to make a sun jar, which I think is really awesome, and I want to make one now... The question I have though, is if anybody knows how to make a circuit, without programming that will make the light raise and lower in intensity, so basically, it has a very slow pulsate but it never turns off and doesn't go super dark either... I have been trying to address this problem myself for some time, but haven't come up with a clever solution yet. --Thanks!!

Why Do planets Move ? Which force keep them moving in thier orbits? google says..... because of the gravitational pull of the sun....... but isn't it the force which only keeps the planets in their orbits......... ? is it also the same gravitational pull of the sun which keeps them moving ? if so , then how ?

After seeing the recent Sun Jar I'ble, I had an idea (not even concrete enought to be a Completable) for an interestingly extended version. There now exist LEDs for infrared, visible red, green, and blue, and near UV.It should be possible, with a mix of small low-voltage constant-current power supplies and pulse modulators, to construct a multiple-LED light source which roughly models what we perceive as the solar "spectrum." I don't mean formally reproducing the raw wavelength distribution, but rather the combination of intensities we see (or measure with a thermometer) in a prism- or grating-spread spectral display.Coupling such a circuit to a solar cell would allow you to build a "Sun Jar" which "collects sunlight" during the day and "releases sunlight" at night. As I said, just an idea...

I am building my own solar panels and installing them as I go. So far I have mounted three 70 watt panels. I have a twenty amp controller and a 1500 watt pure sine wave inverter. With the array switched on and connected to the batteries (8 x12 volt 134AH) via the controller everything seems fine with a steady 13 -14 volt charge coming through. But when I connect the inverter the PV volts drop to around six and seven volts....The batteries are wired in parrale but not directly to each other. Instead I connected them to a buss bar hoping for equel drain and charge... I then connected the wires from controller and inverter to the bars... I thought this may have been the problem so swapped them all around having the controller wires to the battteries, then the inverter directly to the batteries... It made no difference and the voltages remained the same....I am hoping now that the reason maybe that I do not have enough panels to power the system and as I add more panels the voltage will rise...... l Any thoughts on this will be very welcome.....?

Well, I have a computer running ubuntu 10.04 that I want to use as a server for a sun ray 1g thin client. If I can get it to work with your help I will get another client. I have a user set up for the thin client named test with the password as test. The thin client is hooked up to my network and has the ip 192.168.1.110 and when I turn it on the little box on the screen says the ip and that it found one server but then it fails and has a yellow message at the bottom that it cant find a server. When I open terminal server client in ubuntu on my server computer and type in the ip address, user name, and password it gets an error. What else do I need? it says domain, client hostname, and protocol file (they are all empty) Do I need to install any other software? Thin client manager gives me nothing since I cant get connected. I do have the thing that starts with like ltps or something like that installed through terminal. If I type in the ip address of the server in it will open up a window with ubuntu in it. I believe it is in a program called xpst or something like that. Hi guys, There is a new physics teacher at school and he asked us this question: an object fell into a very dark hole in the ground and you don't have a flashlight, but the sun is 30 degrees above the horizon. Using a mirror you have to reflect light from the sun into the hole. In one case the hole is one meter deep and in the second case it's three meters deep. The question is: what angle should the mirror be placed in relation to the sun (or horizon) to illuminate the hole? I don't really remember how to calculate this so if you can help me that would be great. Thanks!

I'd like to use a 4" lcd display outdoors. Would it work to remove the backlight and use a mirror to direct sunlight to the back of the lcd (in conjunction with a shade for the front)? A while back I made a batch of sun jars that stopped working after a bit. I think it's the LEDs, but I'm not sure how to go about testing that, or finding out what to replace them with. I used this path light - and although I could just replace the light, well thats just not as fun.

Hi There, I have just recently joined the site. I would love to make some sun jars as gifts. However most of the solar path lights are quite expensive here in South Africa and I might just as well just buy a sun jar rather than do it DIY ... Is there anyone who could point me to an instructable that shows you how to build the solar unit yourself (in short I want to build it from scratch) ... please bear in mind that I have two left thumbs, so the instructions would have to be quite clear. Hello all, I’m new to the website and was after some help/advice l! So I recently bought a small solar powered pond pump to turn it into a little filter. It works well baring one thing, if there’s no sun it stops! I was wondering if anyone could help me by recommending a battery or something that I could add it to make it run for some time if there’s no sun. Do solar panels have to be in direct sunlight? I'm looking to make a "Sun Jar" and was wondering if it would work on my balcony. The only thing is our balcony doesn't get direct sunlight to it as it's inset into the building and covered by the above apartment's balcony.

What is the optimum solar cell sample size that I should select while testing it with PASAN SunSim 3B Sun Simulator?
I have to suggest sample sizes in order to generate some I-V curves using PASAN SunSim 3B Sun Simulator. The issues with the size and other things was about difference in distance to the light source, and the fact that the light source is not collimated and we can't collimate it, so we need to workout the tolerance. The distance between the external lamp and the sample is about 7 meters. External Lamp consists of 4 lamps connected to a single square shaped holder. The dimensions specs of the external lamp as given in the attached images. What if the sample size is smaller than the light source? What is the optimum solar cell sample size that I need to select? What parameters will be effects if the sample size is not optimized? "Please Keep In Mind That The Sample Size Should Be As Small As Possible". The attached images with help you in getting an idea, how the sun simulator looks like and what are the dimensions of external lamp

Hi guys, recently I thought that what if i make an rc car that charges while I use it outside in the sun, that way I can use it as much as I want (outside in the sun) and I wont need to charge it. I have attached a picture showing the wiring, but I have a few questions. Q1. Will it work?? Q2. If it does than what will happen when im not using it and the solar panel uses the light in my room and overcharges the battery resulting in it catching on fire? Q3. Would it be better if i replace the car battery with rechargable cells? Solar Cells Average Power (Watts): 2.6 Wp Average Current (Amps): 5.2 Imax Average Voltage (Volts): 0.5 Vmax Do I need to wire the solar cells 3 in series to reach 15.6 volts (Calculated loss so not 12v) and then parallel to reach 60 watts for the LEDs? (I plan to have around 70 watts just for incase and rely on the charge controller to lower voltage to 12V.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (I am using a standard car battery. The bottom of the pool is the coldest water so why not heat it from there. what would be a good black material that would sink, absorb energy from the sun and transmit it as heat to the surrounding area. would this not create a method of convection current heating?

I have built a solar panel as a fun little project, now it has come upon a big problem. The solar cells that I am using seem to have a higher amperage output and a lower voltage output in high intensity sun while having a high voltage and low amperage output in medium and low intensity sun. This poses a problem as my batteries were able to recharge during late winter and early spring but now are not able to recharge when there is the most energy to be captured during the summer. The average voltage during high intensity is about 11 while the voltage during medium or low is around 12.5 and 13. I want to know if there is a way to create a transformer to step up the voltage or create a voltage regulator that can withstand 13 amps so the battery can recharge properly. A link or any suggestions would help.

So I went and bought a 1.5 Watt 9v solar panel from radioshack today. It gets ~10.5v and ~80mA in full California sun, and ~10.2v and ~75mA in afternoon light. Does anyone have any experience with running an arduino only on solar power? If so how much load can it take at this power level?
