A little help with identifying Ceramic Capacitors?

A friend asked me to fix his tv's power supply, and i accepted the challenge. Upon closer inspection of the circuit board of the power supply, i saw that a resistor bridge, a rectifier, a diode, a capacitor and 2 power transistors were blown. I purchased the appropriate replacements, and as i was about to install them earlier today I saw that two ceramic capacitors are blown. One of them has '684J' printed on it, the other has "SCK 206 or 296" printed on it I need a little bit of advice on what replacement capacitors to buy, or if i should take them out of the circuit. I could leave them out, because they seem to hook up to a rectifier and then to a transistor, but i would rather buy the appropriate replacement capacitors. Thanks!

Computer Power Supple to Power 2 Computer Fans

I have a wine fridge with two fans (computer fans)  that cool a massive heat sink, but the temperature gauge is faulty so they constantly power on and power off. I was hoping to remove the existing controller and power the existing computer fans (that are already mounted) with an old Computer Power Supply to have them constantly on. Any ideas?

Do USB power supples use power when not plugged into anything?

I have a little 12 volt battery and I am going to connect a car charger usb power adapter to it.  My question is: do they consume even the tiniest amount of power while plugged in but not connected to a usb device.  Will it drain my battery parasitically? Thanks

Solar power for a laptop

Hello everyone I have an idea to build a solar power suppl for a laptop using a 12"x12" solar cell. M question is this, if I solder the leads from a power inverter to the solar cell, it should be able to power or charge a laptop correct? Is there something else I would have to do?

Running a laser pointer? Answered

For a school project, I am running a 4.5 volt, 0.03 amp laser pointer. I need to run it from a 24v power supple. I have tried 1/4 watt resistors, and they ended up smoking. I don't know how to determine what components I need between the + power and the +lead of the laser pointer. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Can Some one Show me how to connect Pc power Supply to Original Xbox? Answered

I got a Original Xbox and it had no power wires, I opened it  up and started to hook up a pc power supply but I don't know where the rest of the wires go?The xbox turns on partly; fan goes on, two yellow lights turn on but thats it no buttons work?So the xbox does not have full power so can someone post a diagram or just tell on where the rest of the wires go?

Can I wire an LED directly to an AC DC power supply?

Hi everyone,  This is my first time posting on Instructables.com so please forgive my noobness! Here is my issue: I have an idea of a really nice lamp to make for my girlfriend using a single 8W High-powered LED (http://shop.rabtron.co.za/catalog/high-power-white-p-7492.html) powered with a 12V 500mA AC DC Adapter (http://shop.rabtron.co.za/catalog/adaptor-500ma-fixed-p-6289.html) First off, is this possible? If not, why not and what is the correct way to go about it? Secondly, will this LED be bright enough for a desk lamp?  Thanks all! Happy instructing!

I am getting the message Turnigy MAX 80W?

I am trying to charge by 3S LIPO battery. It is 6200mAh. The charger that I have is Turnigy MAX80W. I am trying to balance charge my battery. However, when I configure the charger to 6.2Amps and 11.1V and then I press enter and I get the message to press enter to confirm or press back to go back. However, when I press Enter; It just shows me the message 'Turnigy MAX 80W'. Some times it shows  me the message 'Input Vol Err'. I have a tripple battery supple HM8040-3 and I am providing 17V from it. I am really confused what then problem is as I recently bought the charger. Please help!!!

Linux on 1994 laptop?

 I recently acquired a (free!) IBM thinkpad from 1994. I do not have a charger but got it to run by hooking a power supple to where the battery hooks up. The hard drive (a nice roomy 520 megs) does not work, but it does have a working floppy drive. Here is the Question: Is their any type of linux that can can boot from a floppy disk and run on a system like this: 50 mhz processor 20 MB of RAM, previously 4 MB. I found an unused 16 MB card under the floppy drive (?!) If there isn't one you know of, is their any version of MS-DOS that I can boot from a floppy and download for free? Thanks! Update: I found a 2.1 GB HD ($20) online, which could help. I won't order it yet, though.

how to connect 5MM RGB led to connect with 12v 6A controller?

Dear all,  i am bit confused and want your expert help for following matter. 1. Regulated pwr supply using one pwr source to supply 3 lasers w/ diff amounts of V and adjstable mA (info in Details)?

I am working on a multicolored laser unit combining 3 different colored lasers (violet, red, and green) and i would like it so that they can all be supplied with power from one source (such as a AC-DC wall transformer). But each one runs at a different amount of mA's and Volts. I cannot figure out how to get the exact voltages and mA's that i need to run each laser from one power source. here is what the circuit needs to do: --- Use one power source to simultaneously supply 3 lasers with constant voltage and adjustable (using a POT) current. --- Be able to continue to supply constant voltage and current to the other lasers if one is turned off (i dont want the mA or volts to suddenly rise and blow one laser if i turn the other off). --- Use 3 seperate POTs be able to individually adjust the mA delivered to each laser (all of them will run at max mA and if i want to turn down the green i would up the resistance of one of the POT's to reduce the mA flow to the green laser) the 3 lasers that i will be running each have different power specs. below is the max power that i will want to run each laser at. the voltage delivered to each laser this circuit must always remain CONSTANT. the mA's delivered to each laser must be able to be LOWERED from the below specs using a potentiometer or variable resistor. 6V 120mA 4.5V 420mA 3V 340mA If anyone could figure out a circuit or design that delivered these 3 voltages and the same or similar ampages to the lasers from lets say a 12v 1amp power source (it could be more or less as long as i can buy it online), i would be eternally gratefull. i could allways change the resistor and POT values to make the mA's match what i need exactly. I have been looking for somebody to help me out with this and i can find absolutely nobody who knows how to do this. thanks for the time. -Jakob

Problem driving a stepper motor using the A4988 reprap driver board and an Arduino? Answered

Hi guys I am having a problem driving a stepper motor using the A4988 reprap driver board and an Arduino I have set up the wiring using an example I found online (Diagram attached: A4988 wiring) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CmjB4WF5XA.. However the motor does not seem to turn. The motor I am using is from an old Hitachi printer which I took apart a while back. Printed on it is 0.9A/ph. It has six wires however I am using it as a bipolar stepper by just leaving the center tap of each winding unconnected. I have adjusted the VREF on the A4988 board to insure that the current is limited bellow the 0.9A. To do this I used the data sheet of the A4988. As I wanted to run the motor at full step mode, the A4988 data sheet specifies that the winding current could only reach 70 percent of the current limit. consequently: Current limit = 0.9 * 0.7 = 0.63A Current limit = Vref * 2, Therefor Vref = 0.63/2 = 0.315V or 315mV I have therefor set the current limit using the potentiometer on the A4988 to aprox 315mV Once the wiring was set up, I applied power and measured the Vref to confirm it is still the same and it was. Next I disconnected the Power to both the Arduino and the driver and connected in the stepper motor. I can feel the heat sink heating up on the A4988 which means power was reaching it. I measured the voltages from the Arduino to the A4988 and the power supply to the driver and the voltages matched the input. I started shaking about the power connections to and suddenly the motor made one step, but that was it. So i thought it was a problem with the breadboard. I checked the connections on the breadboard and all where connected. To be safe i decided to use another breadbord. Again nothing happened. I checked the Aarduino using the 28byj48 and UNL203 driver and stepper that came with it and they worked fine. I confirmed the wiring sequences and layout multiple times and they all matched the tutorial I followed. My inital thinking was that the stepper motor was broken, so i disconnected it and tried running it using the power supple (5V) by connecting and disconnecting each coil in manually one by one, and it turned one step at a time, which meant that the stepper was working. Finally i decided to see if current was reaching the stepper, I therefore connected the Altimeter in series with one of the coils and it did not read any current, which meant that current was not reaching the coils. Now I am unsure what to do, or what has gone wrong. The vref still reads aprox 310 - 320 mV, this makes me assume that driver is not fried. I do have another A4988 driver however I started working on that one and now the Vref does not go above 62mV so I'm guessing that it is burnt, however the second one reads fine. I have tried using the enable button with the following code (Attached; A4988 wiring 2) however it still didnt' make in difference. I am afraid to try that again as I think this is what damaged the first driver I was using. And why is there no current reaching the coils?
