Tube amplifier schematic

Does anyone have a schematic for a stereo tube amplifier, I just acquired a large quantity of tubes, a tube tester and some other assorted electronics from my grandfather. Ive always wanted to make a nice tube amp, now all i need is direction. It will be another 2 weeks or so before I can actually pick them up and start testing them so I was just trying to find some schematics to get me in the right direction. I figure this may even make a nice first instructable as long as im not completely lost in the schematic. Thanks smoke

Vintage Vacuum Tube? Answered

I have a vacuum tube from my collection here that I would like to test. It says on the box International, Electronic tube, GTE, Sylvania, And what appears to be 12Z - the last letter or number I don't know its either a 1 or a capital i, 12Z - I or 12Z - 1. It has 12 pins, 3 of which are not connected to anything, I can see that visually. Any help would be appreciated.

Flourescent Tube Driver?

So, I'm working on a coilgun, and I don't want to use camera flash circuits to charge the capacitors. Anyway, I've recently come across this, and was wondering if anyone knew what voltage it put out, and current, and stuff like that. Also, if anyone knows an alternate way of charging capacitors to a voltage of 100v - 400v, please share (after all, sharing is caring). Ciao.

Telescope with 3 tubes

Hello all, I wish to make a telescope with a long (1 metre) cardboard tube I got with a potrait I bought a few days ago. I already have 3 smaller tubes - 2 from silver foil rolls (which are very thin in diameter - about an inch), and another from a soldering iron (which goes inside the big tube easily). Is it possible that I make a telescope using three tubes (one sliding inside the other) and three lenses? If yes, how and what lenses I need to use? Regards

Optimum dimensions of a Rubens Tube? Answered

There are several Instructables posted for Rubens Tubes, and I have seen a few elsewhere. I'd like to make one myself, for demonstration purposes, but I'm wondering if there is an optimum set of dimensions? I have seen diameters from about 2-10cm, and lengths from about 80cm to 2m. And what diameter holes should I drill? If it makes a difference, I'll be fuelling it with mains natural gas (methane) in a school lab. (And, while I'm here, what would be a good rescued speaker to drive it?  An old PC speaker?)

LED glow tubing question?

I am thinking of putting some glow tubing on the inside of my 14 foot jon boat, mainly for night fishing. It would also make it look really cool at night. The concept is simple, some of you may know - clear tubing from the hardware store, filled with water, with an LED in either end. This should light it up even if it is curved, right? I want to put long tubes running the length of the boat, on the inside groove of the side runners. That would mean 13+ feet of slightly curved glow tubing. I may have to end up splitting the glow sticks into smaller sections, but would like to see if I can do long single tubes. I'm concerned that the light will fade out in the middle considerably. I'm OK with it fading a little, but I don't want it to be noticeably bad. Will a narrower light beam help solve the problem? (found some 12 degree online) I will go for the narrowest beam and highest candlepower possible.  Am I on the right track? Got any advice?  Thanks a bunch

Vortex cooling / heating tubes

I am currently gathering information about vortex tubes for my repulsine project. There are plenty to choose from on a commercial base but I struggle to find any technical drawings with proper dimensions. Several home made varities can be found as well but wither with poor performance or incomplete drawings. So I was thinking that someone here either uses a commercial product at home or work and might be able to take some basic measurements for me? I am most interested in the relation between inner tube diameter and lenght for the hot and cold ends as well as the size for the vortex chamber itself. If there is an orifice used on the cold end the hole diameter would be required as well. My aim is, based on a properly working original, to create a device that might be less efficient but can be used without a compressor. Would like to see, correct transfer of dimensions given, a vortex tube like system was used in the repulsine. Some old documents state that there was a "seperator" which removed "heavy air particles" and created a temperature differencial between top cone of the repulsine and the wave disks.

Underground Tube Air Conditioning

I have long heard about using buried tubes/pipes to use as a heat exchanger to take the hottter air from your house, blow it through a system of closed loop underground pipes in order to use the earth mass as a heat exchanger. The earth mass removes/absorbes heat from the house air in the pipes and delivers cooled air back into the house. Can anyone direct me to web sites about this subject. Or, certainly, if you have knowledge about this, reply to me with it? Thank you, John333

Nixie tube clocks for sale?

My friend and I are trying to make money by making and selling things. I think that nixie tube clocks would be a good thing to make and sell, because the retro look makes them very popular and sellable. If we were to sell them though, we would need to know several things. Would it be better to sell them fully assembled or in kits (or possibly both). What about enclosures? I am thinking a nice wood box would go with the retro look nicely. What is the best tube to use? I'm thinking the IN-12 or the IN-4. I'm thinking, taking into account what I estimate the total costs for materials would be, we would need to sell them for a price in the vicinity of $70. Does that sound reasonable? Lastly, how should we sell them? We could use ebay, though I don't know a whole lot about the process to becoming an ebay seller, we could use craig's list, but that seems to be more local, or we could have potential buyers email us, send payment and then we send the product (but nobody seems to trust anyone these days so I'm not sure that would work). Please tell me your opinions on these things. Thanks.

Are tube type amps really better than solid state type amps? Answered

A question below reminded me of this. My friend and neighbor plays a guitar and has been going on about how great his new Fender tube amp is and how much better it sounds than the solid state amp he previously used. Truthfully, I've listened to him play on both (he's no Chet Atkins for sure) and I can't discern much, if any difference. I've done a little research and heard words like, "warmer,"  "more vibrant" and "louder" used to describe the difference. With the exception of louder, most of these descriptions are not actually measurable. Is there a way to definitively say tubes are better, or is it just a subjective quality that depends upon the ear of the listener?

Can anyone tell me step by step instruction on how to convert an old phonograph tube amp to a guitar amp.

Can anyone tell me step by step instruction on how to convert an old phonograph tube amp to a guitar amp. It has a 6bq5 power tube 6X4 rectifier tube, and a 12aX7 pre tube. Can anybody please tell me how to do this. You would be so appreciated. I have soldering skills, but not too much electrical knowledge. I know what resisters are, I know what transformers are, I know what capacitors are, and I know the very basics of their functions, but I can't understand how to tear it down and make it a good guitar amp. I want to remove the feedback circuit so that it will distort naturally. I would also like to modify the equalization and tone to better suit guitar amp. Please help. You would make me so happy. I cant afford to buy a good tube amp, and this is my only hope of making a great sounding amp. Thanks so much. Please be as detailed as posible in these step by step directions. You are awesome if you can help me.? Thanks The amp is from a 1959 Newcomb model R124V phonograph with an inboard 6"X9" speaker. It works perfectly with no crackling knobs or nothing like that. The amp is super clean and well cared for The tubes inside are 6BQ5 FROM AMPEREX BUGLE BOY. The rectifier tube is 6X4 from sylvania, made in USA. The 12AX7 is made in Britain, but I can't see a name on it. I have many spare 12ax7's lying around though. Thanks so much in advance.

Question on attaching the round to the square.....

I need to attach a tube (it is fairly rigid, like a bic pen body), to a box (coming out of the smaller end of the box) and it needs to be fairly secure as there will be wires running through it and a "pickup coil" attached to the end of the device. The box may be plastic, or it may be metal, I haven't decided yet. I had thought about threading the barrel of the tube and just using two nuts to lock it in. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
