Raspberry Pi Zero W

I received a Raspberry Pi Zero W kit (from Adafruit) over the holidays, but it didn't come with any doco. And I haven't found much by Googling. Does anyone know of information that could help me get started? I haven't worked with any Raspberry Pi product.

ESC zero throttle power consumption? Answered

I have heard that an electronic speed controller (esc) uses some power continuously even at zero throttle. What I was told was about 0.5 amps, but it seems like it would be different based on size, voltage, etc... My UAV has two 20 amp ecs's being powered by two 4.4 Ah 11.1 volt batteries and it will need to land and sit with the power on for 3 hours after flying 2 miles and then fly back. At 0.5 amps the 3 hour sit will waste 3 Ah. I will probably need to set it up so the esc's are unpowered at zero throttle but everything else will remain powered. Does anyone know a way to calculate about how much current the esc will burn at zero throttle if you know what battery, esc, and motor you have? Or do I need to measure it directly to know?

Infinity divided by 0?

Does infinity divided by zero theoretically equal any number other than 0 or infinity? I heard something about ohm's law applied to a circuit with an ideal voltage source (which is only theoretically possible) and having the terminals shorted out and at 0 ohms, resulting in the current going up to infinity?

What happens to the WD PiDrive Node Zero?

Hi there!This is my first time using this community function on instructable and I want to ask if anyone knows what happens to the WD PiDrive Node Zero (which is a Raspberry Pi zero add-on shown in the image if you don't know what it was)As what I have found on the internet, all shops that used to sold this have no more in stocks and I didn't find much reviews on this product either. There are quite a lot of reviews which showcase only the drive but not the drive with the adapter circuit board and the plastic enclosure.The reason why I am interested in this product is that I am currently working on a complete standalone and tiny NAS system that use minimal hardware or software powered by the 3rd party except the Raspberry Pi and Linux. I just come across this product online and feel this will be quite useful if I can get one. Anyone knows where can I get this product or what happens to this product which makes it no longer manufactured / so hard to find? Thanks in advance!

Is there some way for me to connect the type of LCD screen with a ribbon-type DSI connection to raspberry pi zero?

I have an LCD screen that I am planning to use for a raspberry pi zero project, but it is a DSI connection, instead of a micro hdmi, is there some way for me to connect this anyway? Any help would be greatly appreciated. This screen is one I took from a broken HP 8600, it is an  "Hp Officejet Pro 8600 N911a Display Control Dash Panel Cm749-60021 Touch Screen"  ***UPDATE*** after a long time of twidling with the tiny terminals, I finally figured out witch ones would turn the screen on (and very brightly at that). Any advice on how to try and figure out how to get video input to it now?

Can I power a raspberry zero + arduino with a powerbank?

Hello everyone, I want to make some kind of driving computer, but I don't know how to fix the power. I have a 16000mah powerbank that has a 1A and a 2A power output with 5v. And I want to power the following: Raspberry Pi zero Internet dongle Arduino Arduino Motor Shield 4 motors(DC 3-6v each) 2 servos 1 webcam (optional) I really hope someone can tell me if this is possible. The reason I don't want to use normal battery's is because I want a solution that is easy to recharge.

Has anyone used Rustguy or zero-rust converter products?

I am looking for a fast and easy product for my volunteers to use on a steam engine that is being restored and wondered if these products are any good and worth the $$$ they charge? These products seem to be an improvement over the gloping on of the Naval Jelly and hundreds of man hours of wire brushing and sanding, priming and painting... Just wanted to know from an outside source if these are good and effective so I can recommend them to the Board of Directors and not end up looking like a jerk... They already think I don't know much because I'm younger and a girl! For example, I am still trying to convince them that the engines on static display would look nicer for longer if they used an epoxy based paint instead of exterior house paint! I appreciate any thoughts you have on the two products listed, if you know anything about them! Thanks!

i want to power a 3 raspbery pi zero from ATX power supply can i ?

Hello guys, i hope everyone doing good, I have this question, i want to power up a raspberry pi zero from ATX power supply (standerd power supply for computer) i have search online for answer but, i don't have clear vision, someone told me to power the raspberry from the purple wire (5V 2A) but i want to power more than one pi, so should i go with red wire ? red wire (5v 30amps), will the 30 amps kill my raspberry ? or the pi will just take 1 or 2 amps from the 30amps ? what should i do ? and sorry for my poor english, god bless you all.

One shot delay timer switch without a microcontroller?

How do you output a single short pulse in an electronic  circuit after a specific period of time has elapsed after the circuit is powered on such that when the circuit is powered on, the output remains zero for x seconds then it becomes +5 V just once for y seconds then again back to zero for the remaining time much like monostable mode of 555 timer except that the pulse here is output in the middle i.e. 0v-5v-0v. Can this be done without a microcontroller?

slow voltage current builder: how to increase voltage,current in ramp manner upto the desired value?

Let us assume a system requires 230V ac, 6 amp. When we switch it on, the voltage and current instantly shoots up from zero to 230V,6amp. I want the system to receive the voltage,current slowly ,i.e, when it is  switched on, the voltage,current should increase from zero in a ramp manner ,and when it reaches 230V,6amp, it should remain there till  the system is switched off.

DC Motor- dead or alive?

I've got a DC motor from a treadmill that when I spin it generates a small voltage then drops off to zero even as the motor continues to spin. Is it shot? Can it be repaired, if so, at what cost.?

Can someone look over my Schematic?

Hello All! I have recently started using Eagle, so please forgive the messy schematic as well as the lack of labeling-I am still trying to learn the ins and outs of the software. So I recently received my raspberry pi zeros after months and months of waiting and have been incredibly satisfied with the size and compatibility. However, the biggest issue is the lack of USB ports, which of course were eliminated on purpose to decrease the weight, size, power consumption, ect. I thought it might be useful to design and fabricate a usb hub shield that follows the form factor of the pi zero. I was searching for information and came across this IC that can serve as a 3-port hub, the TUSB2036. However, it only operates at the USB 1.0 spec. Upon further research, I found that the newer model of this IC is the TUSB2046. I made an attempt to design a schematic off known references as well as the data sheets to form a small hub for the pi zero. Can someone with electrical engineering or circuit design experience please let me know if this would work? I used this schematic as a reference and [attempted] to modify it to accommodate the four port USB 2.0 TUSB2046. One important note, the pin labeling on the schematic follows that of the TUSB2036, as I could not find a way to modify it...Please reference the pinouts in the data sheet for the correct labeling on the TUSB2046. What capacitance is a TO412 capacitor?

It came from a disposable camera and has no informational markings. The camera's a few years old so I can't get any manufacture's info. The "o" could be a zero for all I know, and it also says "PET" below that.

How do buttons enter binary?

I was just wondering how a push of one button can enter a series of binary signals to, say, a computer. I get how the digits one and zero would work (howstuffworks.com) but what about the digit 2, 3, abc, etc?

Q: why does a 220v (down-step) regulator output 300v?

What is the easiest/simplest way to run this "220V 30rpm gear motor box"?

Hello, so my electrotechnical (is that a word?) knowledge is about zero point zero, but ALL I want to do is make this motor do its work and rotate his fine ass. That's the only thing, nothing more, nothing less. What is the easiest way to do that for a clueless hopeless piece of scrap like me? Note: it's important that the motor goes 30 rpm. I added pics of the motor for clearification.  PS. 3D Printed Solar Electric Vehicle

Last months, as passive and low energy construction business went down in Romania, I had time to revival an old project - Zero Emission Solar Electric Vehicle. While researching online and off-line for chassis, body and materials suppliers and manufacturers, went to the 3D Printing idea for chassis, body and parts! There are already at least 2 cars printed so, and I'd like to share what I know already and also to learn from you. The vehicles will be modular, also. Hope you will love this idea, when I will have design ready and show it here :)  We might use Open Source Vehicles chassis, but not sure about this, because 3D printing will reduce the need of many parts that are in a classical chassis and body.  Your info brought here and your decent comments will be deeply appreciated. Does this switch exist? Answered

It may just be my google-fu failing me, but I can't find switch I am sure must exist: A sliding switch with reversing (DC) polarity. At one end of the slider, power is full "forward".  Slide the controller, and power decreases.  Reach the centre, and power is zero/off.  Slide past the centre, and power increases again, but with reversed polarity, ie in reverse.

I want to build a photovore with a rechargeable battery, but I have zero experience and I have no idea how to wire it.

Example photovore: http://www.solarbotics.com/products/k_pp/ I want to include both an on on/off switch and a battery (not included in any photovore schematics I've found), allowing the robot to run off of both solar and battery power so it doesn't die in shadows (and maybe make it take steps a bit faster in the sunlight?), and have the solar cell recharge the battery when switched off.

how to check the current requirements of 6 wire stepper motors?

I am building a cnc mill have 3 6 wire some stepper motors i bought from ebay. In the write up on the stepper motor controlers it says to adjust the current for the motors.  but it also says you need to determine the current requirements. Not sur haw to do this. A goggle of the part number gave me zero.

I would like to configure my arduino to have zero current draw when circuit is doing nothing for certain period, like turning off completely. Sleep mode can save power and extend battery life but is there any other way of doing it?

Reading the max voltage of a low duty cycle PWM?

How do I measure the maximum voltage reached by a very low duty cycle PWM signal without having to alter the signal. The multimeter shows no reading or gives a very brief wrong reading and falls back to zero. I don't have an oscilloscope. Are there any other alternative set-ups to measure just the voltage in this case. Please suggest.

How to write a program to count switch presses for an arduino uno?

Write a program to count switch presses (one complete closing and opening of a switch is one count), and display the count in binary on 4 LEDs. When the count exceeds 1510 (note that a subscript 10 means that the number is decimal, so 1510 is 15 in decimal notation) the displayed count must roll over (all LEDs must go out and the count should begin again at zero).

Cycling Power Meter Details? Answered

Hello, I was wondering if someone could tell me what the specific electronic components of a typical cycling power meter are and how they work together?  The picture is of one by Power Tap that is located in the rear wheel hub.  I'd like to try to build something similar.  All I know is that it uses strain gauges.  I have zero electronics experience but I'm hoping to learn by working the problem backwards. Can Non-Hybrid Cars Get 100+ MPG Today?

  We're not talking about hybrids here; our topic is cars powered by the basic IC-engine that relies on gasoline and not electric motors. Today's gasoline engines are not designed to combust/burn gasoline efficiently. Even with the advent of using high pressure fuel injection techniques that are computer controlled, we still fall short of the mark. Partly because liquid gasoline can't burn, only gasoline vapors burn, and there lies our problem. The same goes for injecting the high pressure droplets of fine-mist liquid gasoline that enters the engine cylinder using our current nozzle ejector technology, it doesn't all burn at the same time! Engine designers assume that these droplets are instantly vaporized by the engine's hot cylinder walls, and then instantly explode/combust when ignited by the sparkplug. Not true, up to 2/3 of the fuel isn't vaporized and doesn't combust until later on in the cycle. The 1/3 that gets almost-instantly vaporized and burns will do so within the several thousandths of a second (Fig-1) it has before the piston moves down its 1/2-stroke (out of today's 4-stroke cycle) completing the engine power-portion of its cycle. This releases power and tremendous heat which indeed vaporizes the remaining ~2/3 of our fuel from its liquid droplet form, but too late. It essentially does so when the power stroke is almost over or the piston is just about ready to move into its up-stroke (2nd stroke of our four stroke cycle) phase. So, because of poor vapo-timing we have 2/3 of our fuel virtually wasted by exploding at near the bottom of the power stroke. This incorrect explosive timing, which happens to most of our fuel, imparts very little energy into the crankshaft because its effective "moment" (a product of explosive force and radial-component distance from crankshaft center) is insignificant by then. Various attempts at adjusting the combustion timing spark hasn't made a significant difference. Even though ~2/3 of the fuel is now exploding and providing a huge force, its small "influence" arm distance is rapidly diminishing to zero, and any huge downward force times near zero arm-length is still zero. Some clarification here, technically thermal-efficiency is not improved, pretty much all of the gasoline gets combusted today. That means the energy of the fuel is almost totally released, but not effectively used. The problem is the timing it takes to convert fuel-injected gasoline droplets into vapor to combust at the correct engine rotational time and extract that expended energy. If you did the math for any size engine rotating at say 3200 RPM, you would find that a 4-stroke engine can only extract that energy from combustion during one of the four strokes. And the time it takes to make that stroke happen is only about 9.4 thousandths of a second or 9.4 milisecs (msecs). Now picture the piston just below TDC, all its valves closed, under pressure and containing all the fuel and air it needs to combust. At this point our deadly cocktail has about half of the 9.4 or about 5 msecs to complete combust after the timed sparkplug ignites it. The half factor exists because the max portion of our power stroke (moment arm) occurs at the mid-stroke of the piston sliding down and turning the crankshaft. If all of our fuel isn't combusted by then, the moment-arm or distance from the piston-center to the crankshaft quickly reduces to zero. Again, only vapors combust within a healthy 2 msecs (Fig-1), while fuel droplets take a relatively long time (>5 msecs) to vaporize before it can combust. Unfortunately nature is stubborn and vaporizes ~2/3 of our injected fuel droplets only during roughly the second half of the power stroke. So this huge amount of energy gets wasted because even though the forces of combustion are huge, its moment arm is rapidly approaching zero. Infinity times zero is still zero! Engine designers/engineers have been plagued by this phenomenon ever since the creation of the 4-stroke gasoline or Otto cycle engine. We need to improve this intermittent combustion/explosion process by combusting all of our injected fuel at the correct timing sequence. This is accomplished by injecting only vaporous fuel which will produce ~3X the power we now get. Another way to state this is, for the same power that we now get from a gasoline engine, if we burned the fuel correctly, we would only need 1/3 the fuel consumption to get 3X the current MPG.

Burning questions: round 4...where are the entries?

I'm very confused. I was going to take a look at all the BQ entries and now they are all gone. All of us who entered our Instructables into the contest have been removed and it shows having zero entries. I apologize if I missed something here, I'm just curious. why wont my computer make noise? Answered

My computer(windows 7 laptop) is 3 or 4 years old and recently YouTube did not work we fixed that but now there is zero sound coming out of it speakers headphones you name it and windows media player says something like this:  Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly. Any help appreciated!

A Physics problem I can't explain properly Answered

If a stick with dm/dl =const is hanging on three nonstretchable pieces of string (l1=l2=l3 and l is the distance between them) you can't find the tensions, because the problem is unsolvable if all the strings don't stretch. It is kind of obvious, because if a string happens to be 0,00000000001 mm longer than the others the tension will be zero. But how to prove this normally?  Sorry, I almost never use English for Physics conversation, so I don't know any proper words...

The keyboard is in excellent shape otherwise.  Can I puncture the bottom metal shell in the locations in trouble and then inject contact cleaner?  Are there some other vent holes that might be used?  Could it be an electonic problem or circuit board plating in those areas?  The five keys affected are : g,  h,    apostophe ,   up arow,  and the number pad zero. How do I tell if my multimeter is dead?

I was trying to measure current, then voltage and - basically I had no idea what I was doing and soon everything returned zero. Opened it up, dont see the wire in the fuse anymore. It was rated 250ma 250v 5Ø 20mm. The shop I went to did not have it so I settled for a generic looking fuse rated at 250ma. The multimeter still shows 0 for all the batteries I've tried. Is it time to get a new meter or find a proper fuse?

Can someone help me with a simple audio amplifier?

I need to build a simple audio amplifier for an mp3 device for my A levels, but i dont know which amplifier to use, i would like the amplifier to have a variable gain of zero to the maximum and i also have 2 0.5 watt 8 ohm speakers. I was going to use the simple amp from here, but i am not sure if i can get the full 1 watt from the speakers using that amplifier. Any help will be appreciated.

LDR or optical reflective sensor?

I am planing to make a line following robot without micro controllers. So I am using a light sensor connected to an AND GATE (the other input being the current to the motor). So since I am using" an and "gate I want the input current to be an absolute zero or some value ,ie the current should not be varrying with the light intensity. Besides I think I might drop the "and gate" thing and use an OPAMP instead as it would give me a varrying output current which is all I need

Add 2 to that number, Feel free to use a pen, paper and computer calculator 3. multiply by two 4. add 10 5. add 20 6. devide by two 7. substract 15 8. substract the original number you had in step 1 9. add 6 10. multiply by 5 11. add 59 12. NOW THE RESULT OF all your calculation is 99, is that right?

Any cures for a jumpy laptop touchpad (HP easynote)? Answered

When I'm using the laptop, there's an issue with the touchpad for the mouse, it quite often goes absolutely mental at my touch, I've tried cleaning it, washing my hands... I can't find any correlation with the problem, it'll work fine for hours and then it'll suddenly decide I can't do anything sensibly... It's an HP easynote TJ68, however my brother's Hp, not the same model but very similar has zero issues... So not sure what the score is at all...
