Can I change resistance values in laser diode driver circuit to be able to use it with another laser diode?

I have Laser survey units, tens of them, each has IR original laser diode with this specification ((Ith= 17mA, Iop= 31mA, 798nm, Im=1.26mA)). This laser diode is not available any more, I used to use a Sanyo replacement for it DL3144-008S with ((Ith=25mA, Iop=30mA,785nm,Im=2.0mA)). The driver of laser diode is attatched, Iused to change the value of series resistor with photo diode to adjust the output power and it works great. Unfortunately the new LD is also not available now the available one for me is 9GAIA red LD(ADL-65o55TL) with ((Ith=18 to 25 mA,Iop=25 to 35mA,655nm,Im=0.12mA)) the beam is very dim even with current 35mA!!! does it have any relation with monitoring current which is very low in the new one and if it has, if someone can advise me how to change values of the resistance to let the driver work with the new monitoring current, and if it is something else kindly adviseThanks

Power supply recommendation

I've been trying to collect info and guidance on how to build a portable and minimalistic power supply. I have in the past built other stomp boxes and small amplifiers (PCB kits) but never enough to learn how to read schematics or build from scratch, so I'm looking for something pretty detailed or simple enough. List of the technical and practical requirements: -Steady and safe current output for several hours straight; -Operating voltage: 3-4 to 15-17 volts; -Current: 2-3A; -1 voltage control potentiometer; -1 digital voltmeter; -1 output (1/4 jack); -1 pedal switch input (1/4 jack); -1 status LED; - Possibly external transformer (to keep it smaller and avoid overheating); -No vent holes; I have found similar builds (instuctables and YouTube), but never similar enough to be sure that putting that build in a smaller and sealed box would perform well and not overheat It seems weird to me that I wasn't able to find any kit or project for such a simple build. Below a link to an ideal result example https://thelondontattooconvention.com/suppliers/hard-craft-company-handmade-tattoo-power-supplies/

Capacitors, where to get them? Answered

For a school project, Me and my friend build a medium sized railgun, however, we can't keep the capacitors we used to power it. My question would be, Where can I get some capacitors to replace the used capacitorbank. I am looking for capacitors with both a high voltage rating, and a large amount of capacitance. (the total bank contained 8 1000uF, 385 volt capacitors, I would like to get at least half of this out of my replacement-bank) so does anyone know: places where I can buy this kind of capacitors for a small amount of money, which do ship in europe. common used electronics containing this kind of capacitors to salvage. I already found some in a computer PSU, one in a computer monitor. And I know they are used in disposable flash cameras, which are not very much used any more, and can hardly be found here (Unless I buy them, which is going to cost me a very large amount of money) Places where those capacitors are commonly used, and where I might get them for little money. They don't actually need to have the exact same voltage and capacitance, but I would prefer them to be somewhat close to it. ( > 100 uF, > 100 Volts) I am also looking for a new charger. chargers from disposable cameras might work, but tend to overheat and break down rather fast, I would like to know if there is something better.

Battery support with Intel Compute Stick

Hi, I've been working in a project that is basically an Intel Stick with Z8350, a 7 inch waveshare screen and joystick buttons in the case. The idea is to be able to play windows games like Skyrim, Borderlands, Fallout... Anyway, I've come to a point where everything works just fine, right now I'm designing a 3d printed case to fit it all inside and take it to the go. I was planing on using a battery meter with LEDs to know the charging state and current state of the battery, but I just have been wondering, is there anyway to add battery support with windows 10 reading? just like a laptop, you pop a battery and windows gives me the percentage left and charging status. I plan to post a instructions for this when I finish it as well with the 3d print files and part list. My thanks to all!

SSTC using microwave oven inverter?

I recently obtained a microwave oven inverter and I've been doing a lot of research trying to figure out how to power it. The microwave I found came with schematics and a decoder for the button membrane so I am able to operate the main control board and the MICOM board outside of the unit (with slight modifications) but I have yet to test the inverter in fear of blowing it up. Currently my question is can I build a 555 PWM to cheat the CPU or bypass it completely? if not then I suppose I could use the microwaves original circuitry to do so but I'd like to build a nice solid state tesla coil with it if possible.  Instructables is being retarded and wont let me add notes to my pictures  image one - Main control board to the left, MICOM control board in the middle, Iverter on the right image two - Slight modifications to power the board outside of the microwave image three - Used decoding chart to operate main circuit without button assembly image four and five - Showing the output of the MICOM board going to the CPU on the inverter and settings of Oscope (channel A)

Mini Bike Chain Adjustment Trouble? Answered

I recently bought a bunch of pocket bikes all in good shape but all had some sort of problem.  I took the best parts off of them and made one extremely nice bike.  The one problem I am having with it is that the chain likes to come off.  There is a bolt connected to the back axle that tights and loosens and slcks or tensions the chain.  How do I find the "butter zone" where it isn't too loose to come off, and it is too tight to come off?  The two sprockets are lined up really well, but they are a little off.  Would it be possible that that was the problem?  When I say a little I mean like so small its less then 2-3 mm from drive sprocket to driven sprocket.

Decoding and understanding what your SDR scanner is receiving!?

For some reason, every time I upgrade my antenna I get more signals on my screen that I fail to decode or even understand. When I started this hobby it was mostly about voice transmissions and trying to get radio stations from overseas. Now I am starting to wonder what is behind these endless amounts of transmissions that my software fails to decode or recognise. Some things like TV, pure data or trunked system like the P25 are usually not a problem to identify. An awful lot though is not recognised at all. Also found quite a few signals that produce sound that just isn't right. No matter what type of audio is selected thest I describe these sounds is like weird space sounds with a lot of echo in them.Like a base tone that goes up and down in frequency and is overlapped by blips and beeps.I am not good at all with Linux. You could say Linux and I are like a cat and a dog locked in the same room ;)So I only used the common programs available for SDR decoding use that work with Windows.I guess my question would be:Is there a software out there that can identify the received signal automatically? You know, if doubt be routing the audio to it and getting something back like "Encrypted P25, LoRa data, DVB-T,....".And for whatever is not recognised directly at least something to help identifying the signal.A lot can be done by just researching the frequency allocations. At least down here they are quite strict and that means if you find some info that a certain frequency is reserved for data transmission on short range you can tick them off.The ideal thing of course would be something that works automatically as a complete packet. But I guess that will be a few more years till we get that pleasure :(

How to boost voltage of signal generator frequency? Answered

Okay, here's the question/challenge... I'm using an AD9850 signal generator IC to create various frequencies which works great. Input voltage is 5-volts. However the output is only around .5-volts. What I need is to be able to boost that to (ideally) around 45-volts without affecting the frequency created. The ultimate amperage I am working with is only 20-600 microamps so the boost shouldn't be a problem (I think). I've independently used voltage boosters but wonder if those affect the frequency. Then from there I want to make the current biphasic (reversing polarity every 3-5 seconds) so I'm assuming a relay somewhere at this end. What say the resident experts here?

Is a CRT electron gun any use?

Is it worth it to take the electron gun out of a CRT when salvaging parts? I've seen people remove the electron gun when they take apart the CRT but I don't know what they'd use it for. What can you do with a CRT electron gun? What chemicals does the gun contain? (I know the screen has toxic phosphor and stuff but I'm talking about the gun itself). Also, is it safe to vent a CRT tube? I have found that you should vent the CRT tube before working on it, by smashing the end from a distance, so that it won't implode if you happen to break it when working on it. But is it safe to puncture open the tube? There are toxic phosphors inside and I worry that venting it could cause toxic chemicals to go airborne.

Does the strength of the electromagnetic field of a coil depends upon the thickness of the wire? Answered

Whenever I have problems with the magnetic field strength of an electromagnet people tell to use a finer wire, I have some, its thickness is not more then the thickness of a hair, but whenever I use it, I have difficulty in connecting it with the battery because it's so thin it easily breaks off, and when I turn on the switch, it burns up instantly, maybe I am not using enough length of it. So does the field strength really increase with the decrease in thickness of the same length of the wire and same diameter of the coil, if it does than why?

Help: hacking fog machine with timer relay

Hello, everyone. I need a little help! I'm not very skilled in circuits, but I have already did something similar with a different device (following some tutorials from instructables); this time the same approach seems not working.I have a sensor which triggers a timer relay; when the relay is triggered on i would like to switch on my fog machine (which is already turned on and heated) and spread the fog until relay reset. From the relay I have a COM and the NO(/NC) output.I need to connect those outputs to my fog machine cable controller (which i cannot unmount completely). I attach here some photos of my circuit. The first image shows a red area (short circuit!), and two green areas (fires fog): if i connect the relay output there (COM or NO or NC) circuits reacts even if the relay is off.I have tried connecting the relay out to blue/white wires but nothing happens. What can i do? I'm starting to think to connect only NO (or NC) to both blue and white wires. Any help is appreciated.Thank you so much.- - - - - EDIT - - - - -Thanks for the first 2 replies: connecting COM and NO to blue and white cable was the first thing i did, but with no success. I tried again (maybe i was doing wrong), but again no success. I add 4 new pics of the circuit from above (i have dismounted it). Hope it is much clearer now. Thanks again for your support.

The instructable itself was fine, but in the comments section I found about 8 users, all praising this "amazing", "genius" instructable, and when I checked the accounts, they were all made and favorited and commented on the post on the same day, and that was all of their activity. Oh yeah, the author also commented. I'm also guessing that they all voted as well. My question is, will this be overlooked, or will this author win possibly runner-up with their instructable for cheating? I hope that this will be noticed and will be thoroughly checked. Powering a Salvaged Window Motor with 20v Battery (HELP!!!)

So earlier this month, I replaced the window regulator in my Honda Accord so I can sell it later on. After looking at the old regulator to see what was broken, I saw the motor component was perfectly fine, so I salvaged it for a future project! I do have a few ideas for what to do with this, but my main conundrum is how to power it when I have no 12V batteries lying around.I do have a Black & Decker Cordless Drill that uses 20v Li-Ion rechargeable batteries, and the shape of the battery is pretty compact. Its got 2 POS and NEG leads which you slide the contacts inbetween, and I can 3D print something to hold the battery in place for the project I intend to make with it. However, 20V is clearly overkill for this motor and that means I need to convert 20V to 12V. Does anyone have any ideas how to achieve this?

Serial/Console Interface for Video Brochure?

Hello All!  I recently acquired one of those cheap video brochures (the kind that loops a video on full volume until you want to dash it against a wall)... Anyways, I couldn't resist the urge to hack with it, so I pulled the enclosure apart to expose the electronics. Inside I found a magnetic switch, a USB mini connector with all pins wired (two power/two data), a motherboard with three ICs and a scattering of other components, and a rechargeable battery (seems to be LiPo) all wired up to a 5.5" display. I plugged the usb to my computer and it mounted as a drive labeled "MediaPlayer". Inside was the original video file that I replaced with one of my own videos in the same format. It now plays my video with sound. Where I am stumped is with the circuit board. I have not found any markings on the board itself, however it has some pins around the edge to which the switch and speaker were connected to (I'm guessing these may be GPIOs.....). There is also an unpopulated four pin header (to the right of the display connector) that looks like it may possibly be for another USB port. There are also four solderable connections (on the bottom of the left side of the board) that are labeled GND, HRP, HRL, and DET... I wasn't able to find any meaning for those, but is it possible to establish communication through that? Last but not least, the three ICs on the board seem to be a CPU, and two flash chips. The markings on the center one (which I'm assuming is the CPU) are: F1 E200 F8148DA 19H1  The second IC, to the right of the "CPU" is marked: hynix 812A HY5DU121622CTP-D43 KOR N7EAX553Q2 - also engraved with the letters JHY The final IC, left of the "CPU" is marked: hynix KOR HY27UF082G2M TPCB 604A M8SD53321 According to Google, the E200 refers to the all winner E200 SoC that supports UART, SPI and TWI... It also says that it runs OS Melis 2.0... I would like to hack into this system if possible and/or find a way to interface the LCD through SPI for my Pi Zero... Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks! I included a couple of High Res photos to show the PCB (the display ribbon cable has been removed to show the third IC).

Expertise needed on melting and remolding plastic (PP, HDPE etc.) at home with hand made molds... there must be a way!

Hi, I want to make a rough casing for a project out of plastic of some kind. I tried the potato plastic instructables, but I'm not really happy with the result. So I attempted to melt down some plastic chips broken from old plastic casings (I think the plastic was polypropylene) in an old can on a barbeque (good as it was outside). This didn't work as I kept heating the plastic chips even when they became a bit soggy as I expected them to become much more liquid. This is because I hoped to 'pour' the molten plastic into a mold. Before this happened however the plastic caught fire. So, I was wondering if I heated them in a more sealed environment would the lack of oxygen make it possible to achieve a more molten consistency without the plastic igniting? Some plastics on consumer electricals have flame retardants... surely these would stop the plastic from igniting? If the plastic won't ever become liquid/molten, then I assume to mold it you have to have very high pressures (like commercial injection molding machines)... any ideas as to how to acieve these kind of pressures easily at home? I think with so much 'waste' plastic out there it'd be great to work out some easyish way of remolding it at home! Any help appreciated! Thomas

Arduino coding to allow separate push buttons to turn led on and off? Answered

I am new to the Arduino and have yet to use one. I understand a little about how to program the Arduino and would like to know more specifically about push buttons. I know that I will most likely have to use "edge detection" to determine when the push button is pressed. I don't want to have a push button turn an led on if pressed and if pressed again turn it off. I want to separate the on and off into two different buttons. When i push the first button it will always turn the LED circuit on even if i press it twice. When i push the second button it will always turn the LED circuit off no matter how many times it gets pressed. Is this possible, and if so how do i code it?

Audio reactive stepper motor control

Hello, i'm new to the instructables-comunity and i just started to work with arduino some months ago. I've already made some small projects with a stepper motor and a project with a SD-Card-mp3 player for arduino. For my next project i would like to work with audio reactive stepper motor control. To do that, i already bought the SPARKFUN SPECTRUM SHIELD , an Arduino Uno and a hand full of the wellknown 28BYJ-48 Stepper Motors (5V) and the matching ULN2003APG shields. In the description of the SPARKFUN SPECTRUM Shield it is mentioned that it can also be used to control motors (audio reactive). Unfortunately I couldn't find a code or a manual for it yet. The SPARKFUN SPECTRUM Shield divides an audio signal into 7 frequency ranges (bands). I would like to drive 7 stepper motors in combination with the Shield. Each of these motors should move in one direction with constant speed as soon as the respective frequency range reaches a certain sound level.Does anyone know the SPECTRUM SHIELD and can help me? Or has someone already carried out a similar project and can give me some advices? Maybe an Arduino UNO is not enough powered... and I should rather use a bigger microcontroller? I am grateful for any advice. I'm looking for hints on the coding and the wiring.I attached a rough scheme of my planned project. And here is a PDF for the MSGEQ7, of them two are used for the SPECTRUM SHIELD.Would love to get some help from the community!

Bio Incubator Arduino Code - Problem

Hey guys hope your making wonderful things and providing more value to this incredible world.Inspired by the project of building the Bio incubator from PiyumF I started making my own DIY incubator with slightly more detailed features.https://www.instructables.com/id/Low-cost-and-accu...But however when I started working on the brains of the system I ran into problem I couldn't solve myself. I know that there are, in this community some of the brightest people I could know, more experienced with arduino and coding than I am.So the main problems are:When I started compiling the sketch of the provided finished program I ran in some errors I couldn't fix and cant really describe it in detail, because of my lack of knowledge. Another problem is that I cant properly connect the LCD keypad shield with the I2C backpack and arduino and dont know how should I modify the code to work properly with all of it. So that it creates menu in which you can choose a target temp and set it up.Can you guys anyhow help me solve this situation, because I'm running out of options. Many thanks in ahead
