16F628A microchip question Answered

Ok. 1st of alI I am brand new to electronics and do not know much at all but I am interested in learning. I want to build a 2 segment counter and found a circuit but it uses the microchip in the question. I was wondering if these chips come pre-programmed to count or does it have to be programmed? Thank you.

Yes it has an internal digital counter... After you decide what to count on what pin you do have to program it, in native machine_language, 'C' or other languages... It is available as a 20 pin DIP or SMD 2K flash program, 24 bytes of RAM and 128 bytes of EEPROM in one IC that runs on 3 to 5.5 volts at 20 MHz.... Here is the 180 page PDF http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/DeviceDoc/40...

about every part of the device you might want to know.

Why not check the datasheet or start with something simple?
