3D Printer-ing Answered

I need to find somewhere that has a 3D printer that someone can just go in and pay to use, but I have no idea where such a place could be. Do these shops even exist? Would I have to go around asking people if I can use their 3D printer? Is printing something from a 3D printer a long painstaking process? How do I even print stuff from a 3D printer?? Aaaah!

I write a blog on 3D printing at http://fabbaloo.com, you might find some answers there. Also I recently posted an article on material costs <a href="http://www.fabbaloo.com/2007/12/3d-printing-on-paper.html">http://www.fabbaloo.com/2007/12/3d-printing-on-paper.html</a>

Thanks, General - lots of good stuff there!

Here's an overview of Fabbaloo's "service" tag, which lists a bunch of the commercially available 3D printing services:

If you're on the West coast, TechShop might be a good place to get your 3D printing done...

My highschool has a 3d printer, it takes a long time to print, like several hours. A 3d printer is kind of like a cnc machine, you design something using a cad program, import it (varies with the printer) and it encodes it for you.

They just let the students use it whenever they want?

I can answer your questions.
The machines are very expensive. They must be cared for properly. It wouldn't be worth anyone's time to educate you how to run the machine and then care for before and after your print job. Plus...you are going to make mistakes that wastes material and it's not cheap either. I know.

At present it's like going to Kinkos or a print shop for blueprints.

What you need is a guy like me! ;-)
I have a ZCorp 510 in my basement .
I'm looking for people just like you.

Good luck!

So I can give you something that needs 3D printer-ing, (Like a small figurine) and you'll print it and send it to me at a certain price? Sounds good to me! How expensive is the material?
