How to make voltage rise sharply from 0v to 5V ?

Hello, So i am designing a circuit board using microhard pDDL2450. So after a few trial and contact help from them, I figured out the reason the board didnt work.  The input voltage after pass through a voltage regulator doesnt rise fast enough, hence the chip wont turn on. So the next logical step would be designing an independent add-on circuit that can make the voltage rise faster.  Any idea on how to do that ?

Power Tool Corded to Cordless

Hi 'nstructables I'm building a hovercraft (see several tutorials on Instructables - the one with a leaf blower) and my leaf blower is corded. I don't want to buy 25 miles of Black and Decker High Power Extension Cabling so I'm planning to convert to cordless. Here's my idea: (in visual) Is there anything I need to add? And if so, how do I make the "12VDC-240VAC" inverter described? My blower is 1600 watt. Thanks for any help! (Black and Decker)

Cellophane Recommendations

Anyone work with cellophane? I'm working on a papercraft and bought this cellophane. It is cheap, super thin and fragile and while it is fine, I was hoping to find something a bit thicker/sturdier. It kind of worked for what I am doing, but would love to know if there are other options. Anyone work with any cellophane and have suggestions? I would prefer to have a multi-color variety pack, but any suggestions are welcome :)

How to replace damaged LCD in iPhone 7

Yesterday while getting out of my car, my phone slipped out of my gym shorts and hit the sidewalk. I came to a complete halt and slowly but carefully picked up my phone. "Maybe it got a couple of scratches and that's it?" But when I flipped the phone over, I discovered that it had a bunch of spiderweb cracks. I would like to repair this myself, I found a good video guide: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxKlNJ577sGSnZAb5fLPD1g Should I follow this instuctions, I think it is pretty decent job, what is your opinion?

Wireless Button Pusher

Hello all, I am trying to add/build a wireless button pusher to a grain management device on my farm. The device cannot be hacked into or tampered with, however, the button I am trying to push requires little force and does not need to be sustained. It only needs to hit the button when I hit a remote. Additionally, I cannot use a phone for this (my grandfather needs to be able to operate it as well and could not use a phone) So I would need to be able to connect two simple remotes.  Any and all suggestions welcome.

Animated GIFs only play if they're embedded in text

MacOS 10.12 Chrome 60.0.3112.113 (Official Build) (64-bit) If the GIF is embedded in the text of the step, it works fine. Examples: IOT Made Simple: Playing With the ESP32 on Arduino IDE (step 4 onward), Split Flap Display (intro and step 5) If the GIF is put in the image section of the step, though, it doesn't play and just looks like a still image. Examples: PIDDYBOT - DIY Arduino Balancing Robot (every step except 1), Making a Gif From Photos (intro and step 1) (Also, GIFs in Design Challenge entries' image sections seem to work fine. Example: Lab Centrifuge Fidget Spinner (second image)) I first tried opening the images in the lightbox, and also opening them in new tabs via the context menu—neither helped; the images were still static. I tried clearing the cache, because I found that suggested elsewhere for GIFs not playing in Chrome, and that did help, but only very slightly. Upon refreshing the page after clearing the cache (or upon shift-refreshing the page to bypass the cache), the GIF will play for less than a second and then reload and become a static image again. I also tried Incognito mode, with all extensions disabled, with exactly the same behavior (playing briefly only when loaded without the cache). I also downloaded one of the non-playing GIFs (from the image section of a step) and one of the working ones (embedded in the text) to my computer and opened them in Preview. The sidebar showed only one frame for the non-working one (and looked just as if I had opened a static JPEG image) and all of the frames for the working one. A screenshot of this is attached. This seems to me to indicate that the server is not sending the proper file (or is sending the proper file and then sending a bad file to replace it) when the image is in the image section. Steps to reproduce: I have no idea. AFAIK all I did was load the page and it was broken.

Converting solar LED string lights to a wall wart adaptor.

Hi all I recently picked up some bargain priced solar string lights for room decoration and to provide a low level of light at night, I suffer from Meniere's disease and one of my triggers is moving around in complete darkness, unfortunately I also have problems going from darkness to light so simply turning on a light can also trigger an attack. I've tried all manner of different lighting but most were not suitable for a variety of reasons. A friend who is also a sufferer suggested LED string lights, the kind used at Christmas or to give some decorative lighting in gardens, he has similar problems with light and darkness to me and had been using them for several years he now has LED lights set into coving in every room of his house, I borrowed a loose string set of his he uses on some plants in a small conservatory while he was away on holiday and to use the same words I did to him on his return they were "Bang on perfect" bright enough to be able to move around comfortably (imagine a couple of candles in a bedroom) but not so bright that they keep me awake. I've had solar lights in the past and knew that the bargain price was probably because they had been in storage for some time so was not in the least surprised to find the batteries no longer take a full charge, I swapped out the old batteries for new ones but to be honest I bought them more for their look than the solar capability, I was originally seeking some mains ones but not wishing to have a hundred or more all I could find were solar or battery, I really don't want the hassle or expense of constantly replacing batteries and the solar ones come on automatically at night so it seemed a good compromise, unfortunately I'm still having problems, whether it's an issue of their not getting sufficient charge from the autumn sun to fully charge (the panels are stuck to my windows so are in full sun all day) or simply that the batteries are running down too soon they are just not lasting long enough for me to rely on them. What I would like to do is change the power to a mains wall wart, each string is powered by a singe AA 1.2v 600mAh battery and I'm hoping I can swap this out for a hard wired adaptor of suitable output. I'm not really an electronics/electrics guy, I can build wiring looms for motorcycles OK, I've made some simple additions to the circuits on my electric bike to power an alarm and installed 12v LED car bulbs into its lighting but that is all very simple low voltage stuff, I don't have much experience with converting from battery to mains. My questions are pretty straightforward and I'd like layman's answers, a whole lot of technical chatter about amps living in Ohms and suchlike will get me nowhere, all I want to know is is it a viable option and if possible where I could obtain the necessary adaptors suitable for UK 240v mains electrics online. These are the only tech specs I have on them that seem appropriate to my question are they are Solar Power: 2V 100mA If it's any help these are the lights in question. https://www.amazon.com/Finether-Festival-Celebration-Decoration-Commercial/dp/B01M6CLVQX Thanks in advance for any help ideas and suggestions. NE556 doesnt seem interchangeable with LM556

Hi, built this 556 timer-flasher many times with a NE556, always worked. Made this triple one with NE556's and can only get it to flash but not time! Put a LM556 in its place and works perfectly. Never had to do this before, but then put a 0.01uF on #3 and #11 and #4 to Vcc on a NE556 and still doesn't time. What is really weird, I built one 2 weeks ago with LM556 at ends (thought they were NE556) and a NE556 in the middle and they all worked fine, don't get it! I thought NE556 and LM556 were interchangeable. The main components are the same, pullup resistor 10K, RGB LED, timing resistor 1M, cap 10uF, it must be something very simple I'm over looking but cant figure out what. help! Les

DC motor regulation

I am planning to build a small gearbox that depends on a steady rpm from a 3V dc motor. I understand that the output rpms will change in correlation to the fluctuation of input power. My question is, if I used a regulator to regulate the input voltage from 5V to 3V, will that keep the motor rpms steady?

Questions about the new contest setup.

So I guess someone had a bright idea to change the contest page, and it DOES look a lot better, but where are the contests that are in judging? I liked that with the old one you could go to the bottom of the contest page, and there would be all the ones that are closed, the ones that are being judged, and the contests that have the all the winners. Did this feature get removed on this new contest page?

comments to Answers forum topic disappear

Several times over the past few days, I have tried to reply to a particular question on the Answers forum, specifically the question linked here: https://www.instructables.com/answers/Any-decent-good-hot-glue-guns-for-beginners/ I write a comment in the little editor-box-thing.  Then when I click the "Make comment" button,  and the text of the comment I just wrote disappears.  Voop! It's gone!  Then my disappeared comment does not become posted to this topic. Where did the text I just wrote go to?  Did it go somewhere?  Or is really and truly gone from this universe?  That is assuming I did not save a copy of it to a clipboard, or text editor first.  Yeah.  Big mystery, right? I kind of suspect there is something wrong with just this particular topic: https://www.instructables.com/answers/Any-decent-good-hot-glue-guns-for-beginners/ Just ask yourself why an easy question like this, is somehow 4 days old, with zero answers (and zero comments total) so far.  Is no one, besides me,  trying to comment on, or answer, this easy question?  Please feel free to try to post a comment there yourself, just to see what happens. Possibly the topic is activating your filters, because it has a bad word in it:  Three letters.  Starts with "g".  I have heard rumors you all are running some crazy filters to try to protect users here from reading bad words, and perhaps from  writing bad words too! Also because you always strongly suspect the problem is with my computer (and maybe it is)  I must tell you the browser I am trying to do this with is: Firefox 51.0.1 (32-bit)  and that is Mozilla Firefox for Ubuntu. and, uh, it looks like I am running it under: Ubuntu 12.04 (precise) I thank you for your attention to this matter, and I applaud your efforts to make Instructables less buggy.

Unsubscribing bug?

Someone made a forum topic, and I don't remember what it was about, and I had never saw the poster before. I clicked on the name to bring up their profile, and then, just kinda for a joke, I followed them, but I wanted to unfollow later. I forgot about it, until today, they posted their first instructable. I don't really want to have that kind of thing in my feed (no offence to them) so I was going to unsub. I click on the unsub button, but it just sits and tries to load, but does nothing, no matter how long you wait. I know subbing to a random person in dumb, and I see that now, but is there some way I can unsub?  Thanks for understanding!

Sound proofing shelf frontage help

I was wondering if any of you had any advice for the front of a whole wall shelving unit I am planning on building (and the shelves as well if you have any suggestions). You see, although there is a cavity wall between this room and the next, I am wary of a noise complaint as it is a different flat’s bedroom. I will be using it as a music production room and ideally want decent acoustics as well as adding an extra these extra layers to stop leakage. (I’ll draw some pictures and upload them to clarify what I’m saying)* Two things I’ve been thinking about using: 1.  A high-density curtain hanging in front of the whole unit. While this could possibly deal with the main issue of a noise complaint better than the next idea, I’m worried it will create a bad mixing environment with a really ‘dead’ wall behind my speakers. 2. Hanging, sliding acoustic panels using egg box foam under a sheet of fabric. This will look like a normal acoustic panel with the fabric pinned around a timber frame. I was thinking of forgoing using any sheet wood so I could hang a piece of high-density carpet/ fabric at the back and not have the panel too heavy. The wall measures about 3.2m W x 2.3m H so I was thinking of using three, maybe four hanging panels. It’s my understanding that a hanging panel would absorb more energy from the sound waves than one on wheels or in a sliding track. To hang the panels the main idea I had was to use metal tubing (uncertain as to what material to use, conduit?). With the three panels, I would use two main lengths of it one on the same height, parallel to the other, with the distance between needed to stop the panels on either track hitting each other. From above or below it would look a bit like this U=====U (sorry if this doesn’t translate to your device well… See pictures) with the ends of the U going into holes drilled into the wood, extending as far as the shelves will be deep if needed. With four I would just have two sets of the same but smaller. Sorry if this doesn’t make much sense, rushed off me feet at the moment. Many thanks Jay *Sorry the pictures ended up pretty awful, just moving in, need a proper table…

Unable to Submit a Comment on a Particular Question in the Answers Section

Whenever I attempt to post a comment on a particular question asked by the user 'super_me' in the Answers section it does not post the comment, it simply disappears once I press the 'Make Comment' button. I have tried about 5 times using two different browsers and the same thing happens. I have successfully posted comments on other questions, the problem only appears to happen with this one question as far as I can tell (would hate 'super_me' to think his question is being overlooked, since he has yet to have any comments I can only assume others have tried to answer and suffered the same fate). Generatore to Home hookup

(Tried commenting on the "Easy Generator ...." article. Error?? Perhaps this can be re-directed? See no Electrical forum) Pulling my hairs out (and very few left ) Contrary information on wire size for 50 amps. I'd like to use some leftiver #8 cable for the run from Mains to outside outlet, for a generator. Here it states #8; 1)  I had already resigned to needing #6, because I've seen that more often than #8 in my exhaustive reading. I can't speak to the codes/locations question. 2) just because the generator outlet is 4- wires, 50 amps, 120/ 240V. Does the connecting cable, and plugs+outlets, ALL need to have the separate Ground and Neutral? There are so many 4 - 3 wire conversion examples out there- text and video/pictures. For RVs, welders, etc.

SMPS to Bench Supply - Help

Hi There, I want to make a bench supply using my old SMPS. I have seen many tutorials and I've some questions which I need assistance with. My SMPS says 12 V @ 25 A, 5 V @ 10 A and so on.. In tutorials I see people soldering all the same colored wires to one output 12V, 5V, 3.3V and so on. So, if we do that and I connect a 12V device that operates @ 2A or 3A  to the 12V ouput @ 25A in SMPS that we make, will it fry my device. If so, how do we control the current to supply 12V @ 2A only. I want to make a bench supply with below specifications. Can I do that? 1. I want 2 to 3 outputs each for 12V, 5V and 3V. 2. I want to regulate the current for each such socket mentioned in clause 1 to 1A, 2A, 3A and so on.. Is that possible? If so, how any instructions? Thanks, Avinash B
