Rechargeable Lithium Ion Batteries

Hello Everyone! I am planning to make a rear bike light, which has rechargeable batteries through USB. I then decided to use Lithium Ion Batteries for it. But the problem is that I dont know what parts I need. It should be able to light up 4 COB LEDs (Each rated 12V, photo given) Till now, after looking at several other instructables, I am able to say that: 1. It needs a steup transformer from 5V TO 12 V - TP4056 (https://www.amazon.in/TP4056-lithium-Battery-Charging-Charger/dp/B00JQ2VG1A/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid;=1505148914&sr;=8-8&keywords;=lithiumion+batteries)  or https://www.adafruit.com/product/259 2. It needs some sort of protection like:  http://www.batteryspace.com/PCB-for-11.1V-Li-Ion-Battery-Pack-4.0A-limit-----PCM-L03S04-559.aspx 3. Also do can I allign three 3.7V Lithium Ion Batteries to make 11.1V? Please help me out Thanks!

SMPS to Bench Supply - Help

Hi There, I want to make a bench supply using my old SMPS. I have seen many tutorials and I've some questions which I need assistance with. My SMPS says 12 V @ 25 A, 5 V @ 10 A and so on.. In tutorials I see people soldering all the same colored wires to one output 12V, 5V, 3.3V and so on. So, if we do that and I connect a 12V device that operates @ 2A or 3A  to the 12V ouput @ 25A in SMPS that we make, will it fry my device. If so, how do we control the current to supply 12V @ 2A only. I want to make a bench supply with below specifications. Can I do that? 1. I want 2 to 3 outputs each for 12V, 5V and 3V. 2. I want to regulate the current for each such socket mentioned in clause 1 to 1A, 2A, 3A and so on.. Is that possible? If so, how any instructions? Thanks, Avinash B

Has listing your Instructables authorship / creatorsship on LinkedIn helped get a job?

I decided to add my Instructables experience from creating and authoring on my LinkedIn profile.  Has anyone used their Instructables experience to get a job or move up in areas like technical writing or education/training.  I'm sure the content of the instructable will provide experience in a related field, but I am interested in the writing and creation experience that goes with it.   What has been your experience, good/bad?

Can an SD card port provide USB power?

I have a device that's designed to get its power from a USB port, but where it mounts there is no port available.  However, there is a fullsize SD card slot.  From what I can tell it *appears* I could rig up an adapter that delivers power to the device through that card slot, but am I reading this correctly?  And more importantly, would this deliver as much power as a USB port? Thanks!

Need Arduino Neopixel program written, will pay

Hey Guys! I am new to Arduino and simply pulling my hair out trying to code things way over my level. I have a project I am working on that needs a program written for it, and maybe some hardware suggestions. -NeoPixel Lights that switch to different patterns based on pin inputs. I can explain further via email/IG, I am not on here very much! Pay is open for discussion once we figure out how much work it will actually be to knock out! Thank you!! Obtaining non commercially available parts?

For a lot of projects I find myself needing parts that can't really be bought in a store. My latest project requires transparent conductive ink (http://www.conductivecompounds.com/sitemap/clear-conductive-inks.html). Has anyone had success obtaining parts directly from companies like this? I was thinking emailing the sales rep, saying I'm working on a prototype, and requesting a sample. Do you think that would work? Could someone point me toward a template for an email that would sound "professional"? Also what type of payment do you think they would expect, would just a credit card number be fine? Thank you.

Voltage regulator for trailer brakes

Im planning on building a motorized trailer dolly for my travel trailer, however i want to make a dead mans switch for the trailer brakes.  I was wondering if I took apart an old cordless drill if I could use the trigger as a voltage regulator to regulate the voltage to the trailer brake system.  Without getting into specifics of how it will connect to the regulator, I figure I would have like a bike brake handle that while applied the trailer brakes would be off, but if released that the trailer brakes would be applied incase the trailer started to roll away from you. Any suggestions other than "Go buy a trailer brake controller" would be appreciated! :)

Need an 8 foot super rigid tube that needs to beak down into 2 foot sections

Hi -- I need to create a tube that is as small diameter as reasonable, relatively lightweight, and very stiff. It will be supported only on the extreme ends (thus the need for stiffness). There will be a comparatively light load, equally distributed over the entire length of the tube when in use.  The thing needs to build up to 8' overall, HOWEVER, no single section can be longer than ~2' when broken down. My first thought was 1" PVC - it's NEARLY stiff enough, but a trifle bulky, and it does droop in the center by about 1.5". 3/4 EMT tube is great, and stiff over a 10' span (when in one piece). Problem is how to connect the sections together. Typical off-the-shelf EMT junctions tend sag just trying to support the tube with no load. I have a number of ideas that are likely overly complex and stupid, but was wondering if y'all might have a something that I have not thought about. Thanks! Ted

Diy LED strip light powered from a solar powered battery bank (for painting/drawing at night)

I like to paint nightscapes and so far headlamps are not working so well for me. I used a portable light bar one night that worked well (on loan) but it was too heavy. I've been through stores looking for the right thing...and harbor freight came close. But I need something lighter weight and less expensive.  Two or three led lights don't cast enough light and 30 led storebought lights are too much light. I have a solar powered phone charger with battery bank (with usb connections) that I now plan to use as the portable power source. I plan to use a pringles potato chip tube as the light housing that can be attached by clips to my pochade (really a mod'd cigar box) on top of a camera tripod. I guess my main concern is weight on the box, so I thought running a cable off a power source hanging from the tripod would be more secure and less likely to fall in my palette (as has already happened). I need help figuring out the circuit board; and also choosing the right white led for color purposes. Any thoughts?

Arduino with multiple RGB LEDs

Hi, I am pretty knew into the Arduino world. My problem is trying to make multiple RGB leds (https://www.banggood.com/10pcs-5mm-RGB-LED-Common-Cathode-4-Pin-Tri-Color-Emitting-Diodes-F5-p-937475.html?p=DQ30066511122014069J&utm_campaign=educ8stv&utm_content=huangwenjie) work with the Arduino. Although it would be be easy enough to use a single RGB led, I want to use multiple RGB leds. My RGB led uses 3 digital pins with pwm but since i am using an arduino pro micro with 5 pwm pins, I can only use 1 led. I have found that the max current per pin is 40ma but shouldn't exceed 20ma so therefore you couldn't put 2 leds. So my question is, how would i power more than 1 RGB led? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

Seeking someone to hire for a project

Hi, I'm not sure if it's appropriate to post this inquiry on instructables but I thought I'd give it a try. If it would help in assessing the project, I now this controller would work https://www.servocity.com/digital-manual-speed-controller However, I need the dial or touch pad to allow for discrete steps and not be sort of vague. Any help would be much appreciated. I'm just not sure where else to turn. Thanks, Evan

How can I control the up/down movements of an electric hoist?

I have a hoist that is a northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200660033_200660033. I would like to control the hoist's toggle switch circuit which has a LMG CBB60 capacitor (25uF+ or - 5%, 250V AC C40/70/21 50/60HZ). The hoist is 110V, 125 watt output, 1.5 Amps, 1.7 HP with a lifting speed of 16.4 ft/minute. The duty cycle is 10 minutes at 20%. The weight to be lifted is less than 50 pounds. The hoist also has a limit switch.  I would like to be able to specify 15 up/down movements of the hoist that can be repeated. My question is how can I do this? Any comments are greatly appreciated. Please see the attached images of the limit switch and the toggle switch. The toggle switch includes a large capacitor which is just shown on the right side of the photograph.

Budget Bowl Lathe

I salvaged an AC motor from an old water pump I found on the side of the road and want to use it to make a simple lathe for turning green wood bowls and cups.  I was thinking about using a floor flange as the face plate, a nipple for the shaft and pillow bearing blocks to support it.  This assembly would be driven by a v belt and controlled by the speed controller from a jig saw.  I attached pictures of the components and a simple cad drawing of the assembly. Do you think this would be functional? Any recommendations?

Torque loss in Drill

Hi, I am having some trouble with torque loss from a drill motor and gearbox I harvested for a project. I followed the steps in this instructable (https://www.instructables.com/id/Hacking-Drills-CheapPowerful-GearboxMotors-for-/) to get the motor and gearbox. I then hooked it up to a motorshield and an arduino. Originally the drill (Rigid 18v Cordless) States that it can deliver close to 500 lb-in of torque. However when I hook it up to my apparatus I am able to stop the spinning with my hand.  I use PWM to control the speed but upping the speed still does not produce the required torque. If anyone has any ideas as to why it dropped in torque I would be very appreciative. Thank you in advanced.

A Love Letter to the Instructables Community

Dear fellow contributors, Halloween is approaching, and that was what first got me involved in the Instructables community. I haven't posted anything in about a year now.  We bought a house, and all the maintenance that comes with that took away my free time for projects.  Then I got promoted to a position I've always been after, which is also more time consuming.  Then when i finally reclaimed some free time, I started volunteering taking photos for a local animal shelter to help get cats re-homed faster, AND started fostering under-sized kittens for another shelter! All of this has been great life stuff, but it has left the craft room in my new house woefully underused. Just wanted to write and express my appreciation for this community. When I was posting projects, I was immersed! I loved seeing what other people made and interacting with the makers. I loved helping to judge contests and the thrill of seeing if i would place in one myself.  Instructables gave me a creative outlet back when I was in positions at work that were less satisfying. Instructables gave me a whole world of people to connect with when my own world was so small.  Thanks to those individuals who were always supportive, celebratory, and who answered questions for a newbie.  Thanks to the hardworking staff at Instructables to were always great communicators and who choose such fun challenges and prizes! This place is great. I hope to make a return to posting Instructables someday when life slows down. Maybe about kitten fostering, since I now have plenty of experience with that! Just wanted to say thanks, and to tell my fellow makers never to take your free time for granted.  It is a gift! Keep sharing your gifts with others :)

How can I get a Free Pro Membership?

I'm new to instructables.com . I actually found this site from totusmel blog while looking for tatting patterns. I am new to tatting and am looking for patterns to learn and try out. Specifically, I am searching for tatted jewelry patterns to make my niece jewelry for her senior prom in April. Their theme is Great Gatsby and tatting would make great accessories for her!! It's a special project since it's her senior year!!! :) I can't believe she's a senior! I'm not sure how much I would use the site and I have a very limited income (disability), so I'm trying to find a free code to be able to try out the site and see how much I would actually use it. I have seen several posts where people said they got free pro memberships from posting instructables. I don't have any instructables that I created and really have no idea what I would make one about. It would be greatly appreciated if I could get a pro membership free. Is there anyone who can help me out? Thanks for any help and consideration.

micro alternator airborne / out runner balance charger for large scale rc aircraft

Using the same concept as diesel trains. As they drive / pull on electric. The drive train is actually electric . The noise we hear are the generators charging the power banks. . Electric are far more efficient than diesel or gas engine direct  to the drive train. That being said. How can we set up micro scale generator on board 1/3 scale electric rc airplane. concept : connect 40 size os max rc nitro engine direct to 700 kv E. out runner shaft , rectifier bridge /  12 volt SMART lipoly charger, all this to enhance primary lipoy bank on large scale electric rc planes. ( increase flight time dramatically) sounds stupid I guess, but the concept apparently works in real world cargo trains. Can anyone help wth the system set up of rectifier bridge components to give this a shot ? I have no electrical expertise.  Thanks Jeff

Handheld Monitor (HDMI / VGA)

I work as a field technician for an IT company and 90% of the time, the servers on customer sites do not have monitors plugged into them. This normally results in me having to scour the site for a spare monitor, or having to bring a laptop along just to remote desktop onto the computer that is sat in front of me! I would love to make a small pocket sized monitor that accepts VGA and HDMI connections. It doesnt need to have any intelligence or OS or anything like that, which is where I am becoming confused... I am really new to the whole arduino / rPi scene and I have no idea if either of these would even be the right option for this kind of thing! I do know that the rPi has a 7" TFT and a VGA module available (along with the on board HDMI connector) so I'm thinking this is the way to go regardless. Any ideas?

In my instructable Blind Music Player when I click on "View in 3D" next to the "buttons.stl" file I see some other model. Maybe it's called "buttons.stl" too but that's not my model. Tested with Google Chrome Version 61.0.3163.79 (Official Build) (64-bit) and Firefox 52.3.0 (64-bit). Debian Stretch 64 bit.
