Arduino and publishing data online

Hi. I am preparing to start an Arduino project, simple one for now, that consist in reading temperature data and publishing it on the internet. I did in the past some info search on the topic of sending information to an online server where I could see the data. I had a list of several free sites that provide a simple way thru a url + a key to send information to the database. That was what I did want because that way I didn’t have to build, code an http server and so on. Now comes the part I need some help. I had a problem with my pc and lost most of my information, I know BACKUPS, but I didn’t have bookmark’s stored and lost all of them. Try to google for free online http data providers I just can’t find any. I want to send http code to a server using url + key + data and get that information publish on a site with graphs, etc. Can anyone point some sites that I can do that or other ways to get the same result? Thx for your time and help. Best, Serpa

Arduino Mega with Sim900

Recently I bought Sim900a module and Arduino Mega 2560 to run my old code for sending sms and call, but now there is a problem as I am unable to send sms or either call, my code is attached below. #include SoftwareSerial gsm(2,3); void setup() { gsm.begin(9600); // Setting the baud rate of GSM Module Serial.begin(9600); // Setting the baud rate of Serial Monitor (Arduino) delay(100); } void loop() { if (Serial.available()>0) switch( { case 's': Send(); break; case 'r': Recieve(); break; case 'S': Send(); break; case 'R': Recieve(); break; } if (gsm.available()>0) Serial.write(; } void Send() { Serial.print("Sending"); gsm.println("AT+CMGF=1"); delay(1000); gsm.println("AT+CMGS=\"+xxxxxxxxxxxx\"\r"); // Replace x with mobile number delay(1000); gsm.println("Hello I am GSM modem!!!");// The SMS text you want to send delay(100); gsm.println((char)26); // ASCII code of CTRL+Z delay(1000); } void Recieve() { Serial.print("Receiving"); gsm.println("AT+CNMI=2,2,0,0,0"); // AT Command to receive a live SMS delay(1000); }

Need help regarding the conversion between keyboard and a controller

Hello everyone I am diy enthusiast and been doing a lot of diys But as of late i got into technical and electrical diys And this one diy got my attention and i somehow stumbled upon a great idea. I guess everyone knows of SmartBoy, i am trying to clone it but with a few adjustments. So basically this is the base video i am making a controller with the ideas from Evan Kale But the only thing that i don't understand is how did he connected all the buttons i mean how did he made that circuit and copied it to the foil. Is that a common circuit or is there something included which I don't understand.

LVDS board with raspberry pi

Hi there, I recenlty purchased a M.NT68676.2A LVDS board and connected up to my raspberry pi. All of this is working fine however the setup at the moment looks like frankensteins attempt at a pc, so i was wondering what is the best way to go about building a box to contain my setup, bearing in mind i have no CAd or the like expereince and no access to a 3d printer (no small ask i know) I want the box to be able to support a 15" laptop screen and have the ports accessible on the outside. Look forward to some ideas. Thanks

child's DIY mechanical toy panel

Once upon a time I saw a panel that had a light switch, receptacle and plug, screen door hinge and latch and other things a child could do to keep busy and learn while they are playing. Do you have any ideas of things we could add to the panel. It will not be electrified but could have some battery operated things. Something that makes sounds would be nice too.  This child is two and seems very interested in stuff like this.

The greatest knex ball machine contest!

It's KneXFAN200 here with the third k'nex ball machine contest. There will be no prize unless you count being put on a collection of best ball machines with instructions, favorite on every instructable, vote on every instructables, and a subscription!. There will be a Grand winner, a First place winner, second pace winner, and a runner up. So lets get to the rules. First of all, it needs to be a ball machine that is new. I'll make an exception though, you could do a ball machine that was made from Jan. 2017, and up. What you will do is make the ball machine first of all and post it on instructables. Then, you put the ball machine link in the comments or just by emailing me on instructables. After that, I will put a picture of it on here and once there's 20 entries or by the beginning January, the winners will be announced and will be put in the collection (in order) that I talked about at the beginning. One more thing, I am not entering this contest. Enteries: From random_builder Thanks and good luck,                                           KneXFAN200

Kids Robotics

I want to work with my daughter to build a fun robot but it seems like there are some many choices out there for platforms, controllers, software etc. I think I'm leaning towards a platform from DFrobot.;=37_111&product;_id=97#.VaL4sZNVhBc And an Arduino based controller like this,;=35_104&product;_id=1176#.VaL45pNVhBc To control and make it move I'm thinking that Ardublock could be a good choice. I'm curious if this community has any thoughts on my choices... or alternative ideas. Thanks, Phil

How we select Instructables Interns

Instructables has had a number of truly excellent interns including numberandom, fungus amungus, noahw, randofo, Tetranitrate, trebuchet03, reno_dakota, jessiep, and T3h_Muffinator. Our internships are primarily intended as a learning experience, and if I can't convince these awesome people to join Instructables full-time when they're ready, I'm still really happy when they find something better: Noahw and fungus amungus are now both on staff at Instructables, numberandom has joined the Squid Labs spin-out company Potenco, and randofo is a resident at Eyebeam. The rest of the crowd is still in school, but I'm certain they're also going to have impact.Choosing interns is tough, and we do it in a variety of methods. I've interviewed candidates, encouraged people I've worked with before or known for a long time to considering joining, reviewed peoples' work on the site through their Instructables, or through their resumes and portfolios. For example, I had never met, nor even spoken with, Tetranitrate and trebuchet03 before I sent them messages offering internship positions; I knew from their writing and the way they interacted on the site that they were people I wanted to work with. Conversely, in just half an hour of chatting, both noahw and numberandom impressed me enough that I wanted to work with them too. Much of what we do here is completely public (as evidenced by T3h_Muffinator's awesome intern journal entries). How someone behaves as a user is a pretty good indicator of how they'll behave as an intern. So, if you're thinking that you'd like to join us, one of the best things to do is to post a couple of great Instructables. If you're local, but aren't quite sure this is the thing for you, Tim is always looking for people to help him document. If you have a portfolio, try documenting a few of your projects on Instructables; if that doesn't work, send your portfolio along and we'll have a look. If you don't have a portfolio, make one (preferably on Instructables!). I think this is a fun place to work. There's always lots of good food, and, if the season is right, kitesurfing lessons.

I want something that can be worn that makes a noise when the wear slips out of good posture. I am sure this could be easily done. All quotes will be received and considered.

how to write a program to control switch and LED

This program is based on How to Program Switch and LED Connected with PIC16F877A.    The following code demonstrate, how to write a program that scan the switch status and turn on and off LED. The switch is connected at PORTE bit-0 and LED connected on PORTB bit-0. When switch is read as high state, the LED is turn-on and when switch state is low, LED is turn-off. The switch debouncing rate is 5msec. The code is written in “mikroC PRO for PIC v.5.6.1” IDE and simulation is done with Proteus 8.0 SP0.  PIC16F877A-I/L Datasheet Code in mikroC
// switch connected on porte #define SW_AT_PORT PORTE // debounce rate 5msec #define DBOUNCE_RATE 5 // direction signal sbit LED_dir at TRISB.B0; sbit SW_dir at TRISE.B0; // bit labels portb sbit LED at PORTB.B0; sbit SW at PORTE.B0; // old state save flag bit oldstate_one_to_zero; bit oldstate_zero_to_one; void main(void) { // set porta and porte as digital ADCON1 = 0x06; // set direction as output LED_dir = 0; // set direction as input SW_dir = 1; // init LED LED = 0; // init old state flag oldstate_one_to_zero = 0; oldstate_zero_to_one = 0; while(1) { // Detect logical one if(Button(&SW;_AT_PORT, 0, DBOUNCE_RATE, 1)) { // Update flag oldstate_one_to_zero = 1; } // Detect one-to-zero transition if (oldstate_one_to_zero && Button(&SW;_AT_PORT, 0, DBOUNCE_RATE, 0)) { // Update flag oldstate_one_to_zero = 0; // LED ON LED = SW; } // Detect logical zero if(Button(&SW;_AT_PORT, 0, DBOUNCE_RATE, 0)) { // Update flag oldstate_zero_to_one = 1; } // Detect zero-to-one transition if (oldstate_zero_to_one && Button(&SW;_AT_PORT, 0, DBOUNCE_RATE, 1)) { // Update flag oldstate_zero_to_one = 0; // LED OFF LED = SW; } }}
using Smart TV board from dead TV to make standalone player

Hi everybody, recently I hired a new ISP company (italy) with a SO AWESOME VOD TV service, like netflix and also live tv, , the app works very great and with a good quality, the problem it's only available for LG and SAMSUNG smartTV, no way to watch it on PC; mobile, chromcast.... So... i have 2 more Sony TV and a 4k Projector and i don't find a dam solution to watch this app on rather than buy another 2 LG/SAM tvs and throw the projector (which is not an option hehe) So I wonder if I  can just buy a broken LG/SAM TV (even a new one) and use the smart TV board as player, I think, it's pretty easy to just unattach the board and put a power supply, but i wonder what kind of video interface this board uses, I will need any kind of magical WHATEVER to HDMI converter, and also it need to have audio aswell  I read most of the TV use proprietary interface / connector to send image to the panel, the app it's compatible with more than 200 models from LG and Samsung, maybe you guys know the exact model i shloud find to "hack" the board in most easy way Thanks!

Can I delete some of my instructables?

So when I started posting 'ibles, I was a little too excited and posted WAYYYY to many way too fast. A lot of them are quite lame, cause I posted anything and everything. I was a total contest fan, (I still am now, but not quite as bad) and whenever a contest would pop up I would quickly make an 'ible as fast as I could to put in it. None of them won, ofc, and now I want to delete some of my noobie past, but I can't! I tried to delete some of them, but since I entered them into a contest, they don't delete! Is there any possible way to delete some of my embarrassing 'ibles?

Introducing: Design Challenges!

Design Challenges will be in addition to our other contests. Here is what makes them different than our traditional contests and challenges: You do not create step-by-step Instructables for these contests. Create 3D designs using Fusion360, Tinkercad, or any program that allows you to make .STL files. Design Challenges can only be entered from the contest page. We will usually provide start files to get you started (this will be dependent on the contest and its theme). Our first one is the BOSEbuild Design Challenge. If you have questions specific to the BOSEbuild Challenge, the Speaker Cube, or creating your own custom designs, you can post those questions here. If you have questions about Design Challenges and what they are going to be like, post them here! *If you want to upload more than 1 STL file, upload your main design file in the "Add Design File" section and upload any supporting renders of the design, additional .stl files, or other relevant images to the "Add Images" section.*

Building boxes to fit existing doors

I have about five Tasmanian Oak cupboard doors and they are an odd size (W:490cm x H:575cm). I want to use some of them on low-hung overhead cupboards in the kitchen. They have a board insert with a plan board on top and sides. They would look good, I think, just lightly stained and sealed or painted white in the farmhouse style. Problem is, because they are not a standard size and I cannot by stock cupboards to fit. I thought I could buy mdf or pine boxes to attach them to but the odd size makes this difficult too. So then I thought - I will have to build them myself. As I am a total novice, does anyone know how I can do this, tactically and in the most economic way? Thank you in advance ...

Which Stepper motor and which controller?

Hello, Still in research mode for my own CNC machine which will be Arduino based. But, as everyone is using different motors and controllers (drivers?), how do I choose the right one for me? My machine should be able to do soft materials like wood and plexi/acrylic but I als want to be able do mill/cut aluminum, as I am restoring an old car and parts are not easy to get hold off. For my board I was thinking of an Arduino UNO (like most) but then, which motor to go for? Uni or bipolar? 17, 23, 34? And which driver? gShield / CNC Shield V3 / Dual step driver? A4988? 1 board per motor or can I combine them? How to get a smoother run then 1/8 steps? (Found CNC Shield V3.0 + UNO R3 + 4pcs A4988 Driver for £15???) I have never soldered anything, but I am a fast learner. So far when it comes to electronics, I managed to hardwire a stereo without harness into my car, speakers, radiator fan circuit and some door controlled LED's. Far away from soldering of building a CNC, but I am up for the challenge. I know there are a lot of questions in this post, but I appreciate any explanation why someone chose one motor over the other etc.... Any information is highly appreciated. I rather research more then building something and then have to start over again. Kind regards, Red

DIY Solder Pot

Just today, my brother offered to give me his old coffee maker that he had replaced with a newer one. He is well aware of my electronics hobby, which is why he offered to give it to me in the first place. Nothing is wrong with the coffee maker electronically - he just didn't use it for a long time in which it became moldy on the inside. He cleaned the inside properly, and as a precaution I did it a second time. Now that it is cleaned, I'm curious as to if I could turn it into a solder pot. Seeing plenty of DIY solder pots, I'm thinking I could use an empty soup can, cut to a reasonable size, and have it rest on the heating element of which the coffee pot would normally rest on. Would I be able to do just that or no? Any suggestions as to what to use for the "bath" or "pot" of which will hold the molten solder? Thanks in advance! P.S. This is a basic electric drip coffeemaker I'm wanting to salvage - just to clarify.

How Composite Video Works

So I was doing some browsing around on Youtube the other day and I starter to wonder, how does composite video work? I read a handful of Webpages, pretty much all of which said the exact same thing more or less. So i was wondering if anyone knew how composite video works to generate an image with color and everything. Please use simple words so that it is easy to grasp (or if you DO use complex terms like "harmonics" please describe what the term means). I know that the signal level determines the color but how do you do things like pixel selection which is necessary to generate images?

Difference Between Type L vs Type ACR Copper Coil

Hello everyone,    I was hoping someone can share advice, tips etc. I plan on getting 55gal steel drum & turning into wood burning pool heater. My question is about which type copper coil would work best, and still be safe to use. My son has Down syndrome and is very sensitive to cold water. We just spent around $1500 to get pool ready with a installed ramp for his wheelchair. We called few different pool people about a reg heater they want from $2500 to $3700. Mostly cause it would not be easy install lot of things in way, etc etc. oh and then add monthly bill. I don't mind the pool temp but my son does and he truly doesn't ask for anything. And if I could safely get pool warm enough for him then I want to at least try. so we really don't have the extra cash to go "normal" pool heater way but I've watched allot of vids on YouTube where they took a steel 55 gal drum, turned on its side and put the copper coil mounted inside at the top. These people would be able to increase temp by allot. Its labor involved but I'm home anyhow taking care of my son. I'm looking at using about 100ft. I can get 1/2 100ft of Type L $163.00 and Type ACR for $119.00. Anyhow Type ACR is much much cheaper then Type L.  Is there a real big difference? Big enough to spend the extra cash and use Type L, instead. Or Is ACR still safe to use with the pool? I'm not sure which Type L or ACR but I've read it say it's cleaned inside the pipe. Does this matter cleaned vs not cleaned inside pipe for what I would be using for? here link of place I'm getting;=MWP2IDP2PCP Please any info would be greatly appreciated. Truly thanks so much for your time. Thank Lisa

Building a custom shaped Compressed air tank

Hello, am looking into the possibility of building my own paintball markers, and wanted to do a custom way of using the air system, compared to most markers. I was thinking either a square shape, but after finding an article that was talking about water and gases tanks and why they are build cylindrical, i realized that maybe that might not be as easy or practical. another possible idea would be a flask shaped tank, but for the design am looking at it would need special commendations, none the less I wish to see if something like that could be possible.

Import from doc, markdown support, and tables

First of all, I want to say that overall, writing my Instructable was a pleasant experience. While I do have some suggestions, I enjoyed the process and felt that the site worked pretty well to allow me to build a good set of instructions. Kudos! I'm sure it's probably been suggested before or I could be missing something with the editor, but I would like to see a way to import from a word doc. I wrote up a lot of the details in a word document before writing my Instructable, and if I were able to import that directly it would have saved a lot of time. I was able to copy and paste, but it removed much of the formatting and I had to reformat sections. It would also be really awesome to be able to copy and paste markdown formatted text into the step instructions. Markdown is used by a lot of sites / software including github, thingiverse, confluence, and jira to name a few I know of off the top of my head. Finally, I really wanted tables in some of the steps to make lists of tools and parts cleaner / easier to read. If tables are supported, I wasn't sure how to create them.

I want to make an instructables challenge! Clay foundation for 0g Space Architecture!

How do I do it? I was thinking to do it on meetups but I can modulate to be on this site, how would I do this? (I need microfunding of 5 dollars on the site so I can post events around the world looking like this:)  “Colab Clay Games for making the World's First 0GSpace Architecture Modules! ”    where: Clay Sculptor Co-organizors around the world choose a good place with clay. There are  “Chefs” that would cut the clay in different shapes to give to the Artists/Creators  to make 0gravity modules of rooms and living spaces, with some sort of tech or texture built in it, colab or solo, at the end of the event gets uploaded to the cloud.   People are Welcome to bring good vibes, wine and make clay massages to each other, because God knows working with Clay is tough.
