Building a custom shaped Compressed air tank

Hello, am looking into the possibility of building my own paintball markers, and wanted to do a custom way of using the air system, compared to most markers. I was thinking either a square shape, but after finding an article that was talking about water and gases tanks and why they are build cylindrical, i realized that maybe that might not be as easy or practical. another possible idea would be a flask shaped tank, but for the design am looking at it would need special commendations, none the less I wish to see if something like that could be possible.

Import from doc, markdown support, and tables

First of all, I want to say that overall, writing my Instructable was a pleasant experience. While I do have some suggestions, I enjoyed the process and felt that the site worked pretty well to allow me to build a good set of instructions. Kudos! I'm sure it's probably been suggested before or I could be missing something with the editor, but I would like to see a way to import from a word doc. I wrote up a lot of the details in a word document before writing my Instructable, and if I were able to import that directly it would have saved a lot of time. I was able to copy and paste, but it removed much of the formatting and I had to reformat sections. It would also be really awesome to be able to copy and paste markdown formatted text into the step instructions. Markdown is used by a lot of sites / software including github, thingiverse, confluence, and jira to name a few I know of off the top of my head. Finally, I really wanted tables in some of the steps to make lists of tools and parts cleaner / easier to read. If tables are supported, I wasn't sure how to create them.

blutooth telephone

Hi people who are smarter than me! I have been searching the great Google for the past while and I cannot find something that does this. I love the portability of cellphones and i love the look an feel of landlines (you cannot beat the look of a phone on a a desk. What I want is a device that connects to my cellular telephone wirelessly and that a landline can plug into. This means that it must supply about 40 - 60 VDC to power an old phone that DOES NOT HAVE EXTERNAL POWER SUPPLY so it could operate a touch tone phone from the 80's and 90's. When I get a call on my phone I want it to ring the phone. When I pick up the handset I want it to answer the call and allow me to talk to the person. When I place a call I want to be able to pick up the handset and then dial a 10 digit number and then it place the call through my cell phone. During the call I want to be able to press a number on the landline and for it to press that number on my phones keypad. when i put the handset down i want it to hang up. Is this even possible? can it be done? let me know! Thanks! scott

wiring and charging 2 3s1p lipo batteries in series?

If i wire three 3s1p lipo battery packs in series, does it become a 6s2p battery and can I charger the 2\three batteries in that form(series). This is for a electronic long board battery. I would be using three zippy compact 5000mah 3s1p 11.1volt batteries.  Im want the total mah to be 5000 and output voltage to be 33.3. therefore the wirng like this would work but im not sure if i can charge it in series with 1 charger or if i have to charge them all seperatly if wired in series.  Thanks!

Natural Elimination/Move of Bees in House Walls

Hi to All -  I have a problem with an old farm house that has some sort of opening into which a bee colony has called home as well. I am really not wanting to simply kill the hive, as I know of the importance of bees, but I can't have them stay much longer as the colony/hive is growing in size. Does anyone have any ideas on how to try to "encourage" the hive to move out without being destructive?

programming help

First of all, I am new to this. But for my CEIS course project I decided to program an rc vehicle because I thought it would be COOL! Now I am knee deep into the project and I am needing guidance.  So I am going to attempt to stack raspberry pi hats. One adafruit pwm for servos and the other adafruit pwm for dc and stepper motors. The first thing I done wrong was solder the gpio headers on backwards. Since I'm not too professional with a soldering iron I ended up making the drives of no use and ordered more. Before I done that, I got my pi camera working! Still need to program the pan/tilt servos. I have battery power, wiring, almost everything as far as hardware. Just not sure if I am headed in the right direction. I tried different things with python and the i2c but now when I start up the Kernel Module fails.  Any help will be great!

Missing "Favorite" callback

I'm not sure if this is a bug or a missing feature (and hence this should became a suggestion), but if I'm not logged and I try to favorite an instructable, then the site will ask me to login. So far so good. But the callback on the instructable doesn't contain any information about the user action, and so it wasn't automatically favorited. I find this quite frustrating, since I'm not a big user and I'm usually not logged when I surf the site..

Separate Sand and Water in Glass Vase

I'd like to hear some suggestions for separating sand and water in a 4" diameter glass vase. I'm doing an arduino project that involves having a dyed deep blue mineral oil as a non-evaporating "water" atop about 4 inches of sand in a glass vase. I experimented with drizzling Loctite epoxy and it leaked about 1/4" into the sand, so it wasn't very elegant (created a layered look - dry sand, wet sand, epoxy, water). I'd like the delineation to be as clean, but easily implemented, as possible. Worst case scenario is that I wrap something around the vase to hide the transition, but I'd like to avoid that if possible.  I suppose another option is to stack 2 separate glass vessels, but im struggling with thinking of a good way to do that too... Perhaps this is also a non-issue...I should see if the deep blue mineral oil is even visible if put directly INTO the sand. Thanks in advance.

Suggestion: Notes section in editor

Hi! You know how it goes. You're writing an instructable and while being somewhere in the middle of it there's this spark of ingenuity about something you should add in a previous step. You don't want to stop what you've just been writing either so you have a few sub-optimal courses of action: Just keep writing what you have been and forget the genius idea by the time you get back to writing it in the corresponding step. Take a note on the first piece of paper that happens to be on your desk and get it buried in many other pieces of paper by the time you go to the step you had the idea for. Make the note inline in the editor in the current step or the step in question and then forget to remove this remark to yourself before publishing. Or there could be this additional text box in the editor you could take your notes in. It could be used while writing an instructable or later, when some of the commenters suggest some good edits to your work. Just a great place for anything related that you always know where to find. Of course it might be that I'm the only one feeling like this would be a valuable addition and there are good alternatives without the cost of resources for the instructables team so share your way of taking project notes, I'm sure those will be useful to many!

Thank You, Instructables

Five years ago today I joined Instructables. Since then I’ve posted 52 projects, favourited 510, and read far too many to count. I wanted to thank the Instructables community for all it has done for me over the past 5 years. Firstly, it gave me an outlet for my creativity. I’d always loved fabrication and design, but until joining the site I had no real reason to push myself to create anything new or different. Without Instructables I probably would have been content to limit myself to the projects assigned in wood and metal shop classes at school, and would likely never have broken out of the mould and began to design my own projects. Secondly, it helped me learn. Whether I was reading someone else’s Instructable or the comments on one of my own, I could always find some new, unique perspective that I never would have thought of. Thirdly, it taught me to persevere. Many of my projects had points where I was frustrated or dejected with how they were turning out, but I always pushed through them so that I could share my work with the community. Finally, it taught me to never stop making. There are so many projects out there I want to try, and so many ideas I want to share with the community; I think I’ll be busy for years to come. So thank you, Instructables. Here’s to five more great years.

Review Quality of Instructables

Looking for some feedback on quality of my Instructables.  What key element(s) am I missing to win those awesome grand prizes? https://www.instructables.com/member/DiyWaterDog/instructables/ Of my 51 projects I think 49 have been featured. I have more than my share of robot T-shirts. :-)  What do I need to improve to impress site visitors and judges enough to get more votes and views? Yes, I have been through the Instructables class...  With 49 featured, I must be doing something right.  What do I need to improve?   Please don't look at this as being greedy, but would really love one of these grand prizes one of these days.   I'm sure any comments would benefit all authors. Thanks in advance and Keep Making! Love this site and community! DIYWATERDOG.

3 way light switch push button, working at low voltage controlling line V light

I'm adding an additional light to a room with 2 entrances in an old house. Instead of using the common 120V 3-way SPDT switches to control the light fixture from 2 points, I'd like to use a relay (or something electronic) directly connected to the load of the light, and I'd like to run low voltage wires to push buttons located near the doors of the room. These will control the light by one press = on (if the light is already off), and the following press will = the alternate condition, the light going off. IOW, the push-button will toggle the on/off condition.  There should be a commercially available relay (some kind of latching relay, perhaps) product with the circuit. Can anybody recommend something? Or, perhaps I could put together the components myself. Does anybody have a schematic of something along these lines?

Ever Repair a Electric Popcorn Kettle Before?

We have a popcorn machine at work.   The kettle died and I took it home to fix. I didn't know a ton about them before but after working on it it seems to mainly consist of a heating element, a thermostat and an in-line fuse. I replaced the fuse but each time I would turn the thing on it would cook one batch of popcorn (much faster than before and not as well) and then not be able to do another.  It seemed like the fuse was burning out.   I had replaced it with the same model number as before. So I replaced the thermostat too.   Still, the same thing happens.   I tried reversing the poles in case I put the wires back in backwards and didn't realize it, in case that mattered, but no effect. I adjusted the thermostat, both old and new turning them down and down by what should be 200 degrees in the end but was getting the same effect, like the thermostat wasn't the issue. Does anybody have any ideas what is going on here?   Is there maybe some inline resistor in the heating element I'll never be able to get to or see or something? Adding a picture.   The two white wires are power, the green is a ground.  There's nothing but wire beyond where they go.

Need help with Led project (time sensitive)

Need help with Led project (time sensitive) Hello I am currently working on a project that has less than 3 weeks till the suspense date. One aspect of the project I will be adding some LEDS. I want these LEDs to flash. So I got the following stuff for this project: LED Flashing kit MK102 by Velleman from Fry’s Electronics 100 rectangular flat clear 2mmx5mmx7mm LEDs (DC 3V 20mA) 400 DiCUNO 3mm LED assorted colors Forward Voltage: R/Y 1.8-2.2V B/G/W 2.8-3.2V Max Current: 20mA The issue: Ok so I want to take the LED flasher kit and instead of using the two supplied red LEDs I want to run two series of LEDs. One series will have two flat clear LEDs and one clear 3mm LED. The second series would have one flat LED and one 3mm clear LED. I have other colors but I figure if I stick with the clear LEDs, it makes everything simple and I will simply paint the LEDs the color I want. I would like to use all the other circuitry that comes with the kit and simply add each series where you would normally add the two red supplied LEDs. This kit runs on a 9 volt battery. So, I am assuming that I can simply replace the supplied resistors that come with the kit with ones that account for the LEDs I want to use? I am attaching the diagram from the kit for clarity, I hope this is making sense. Any help you can offer would be appreciated.

Wanted: Electrical Engineer for Tech Startup

Good evening, We are two students who are currently working on our startup project where we are developing a product for the electronics industry. A large amount of research has been made and the theory/concept of our product is in place, but we are of course open to suggestions. As we are in the process of developing our first prototype, we are now actively seeking for an electrical engineer to join our team. As a part of our team, you would become a Co-founder and receive equity in the business entity. We found Instructables and thought that there might be an interest for these type of projects from its members. We are actively seeking a person with an electrical engineering background or similar, who is familiar with the process of prototyping, to join our team. The process of developing a first prototype will include evaluating and matching components, product specifications, product functionality and testing. The goal is a prototype that gives proof of concept with verifiable data that can be used while meeting with investors. Several investors have already been contacted and shown interest, including major angel investors from New York Angels etc.  We do not expect you to know everything, we value commitment and passion over 10+ years of experience and it is important to us that you share our vision and mission. All we require is that you have knowledge within electrical engineering and can bring something to table, especially in the prototyping process. We are located in Honolulu, Hawaii, but are open to working together with you remotely. Feel free to reach out if you feel that you can be committed to the project and seek a challenging co-founder tech related position! Best, Anna & Oliver startupanimalprotection@gmail.com
