Need help wiring salvaged electric motor

Hello, I have an electric motor I salvaged from a clothes dryer. I would like to add a three prong plug to it. However, I'm not experienced enough to read a schematic and I can't find any other tutorials that use the same motor. It's from a 2014 Whirlpool Dryer. I need to know where to connect the black, white and green wires. Any help is appreciated.

How many votes? I'm from Belgium

Hi. I'm new to instructables and I wrote my first one and enter the contest for cardboard. I wonder if it is possible to see votes for my project?  If yes, where? Also, I'm from Belgium.  If I win (maybe it is possible:) ) can I receive the prize? And a last question.  Can I enter to contest at the same time?  I'm not sure with the reading of rules. Thanks a lot for your help.

WANTED: Free Large/Medium-Sized Neodymium Magnets

Hello I am looking for large or medium-sized neodymium magnets that you no longer want or need. Magnets of more than 1in are preferred but magnets of a slightly smaller size are ok. The preferred shape(s) of the magnets is/are cube, bar, sphere, or cylinder but any shape is perfectly fine. Thank you very much for taking the time to look at this post, whether you can provide any magnets or not. Please reply if you can provide any magnets. I am willing to pay shipping if it isn't too high. Thanks again and have a great one. Bye! :) Side note: I am well aware that magnets are relatively cheap online but I need to get a large amount of large to medium-sized neodymium magnets and the price adds up very quickly so please think about giving me some magnets.

Making PSP UMD adapter to USB for tablet or phone.

Does any one know how to connect the ribbon cable on a PSP UMD drive to a USB devise? It would be cool to be able to watch my UMD movies on my tablet. Space is cramped living in an RV. Be great for power outages.  What I'm talking about is taking a replacement UMD drive and connecting it to a USB docking station. Then plug it into a tablet or smart phone. Use zoom to view movies at full screen. Games would become pixelated.

Looking for a 5V valve to be driven by ARDUINO

Hi everybody, I am working on a project to make an automatic watering system driven by arduino. I am looking for a valve which I could operate without any extra power supply but the 5V from the ARDUINO. It would be perfect if the valve could be in the range of the 6mm for tubes connections. As my project will rely on gravity for water movements, I don't want to use a pump or whatever active device. Just some standard batteries connected to ARDUINO. Do some of you know such a valve? I have looked on the net without any success. I have found loads of watering projects using arduino but none with the same phylosphy. If you know one, please let me know. Regards,

LED Wiring Question

Prologue:  Please be gentle...once I get past V=IR and the "right-hand" rule, I'm lost to electronics.  But I can solder and follow a schematic. I have several (7) LED sets (each set = 10 LEDs with power pack containing 2 AA batteries, switch, and resistor).  Each set of LEDs are all the same color (if that makes a difference). Image attached. Question:  Is there a way to connect all LED sets to operate with a single switch and maintain each set with it's own power supply? On a lighter note, I'm building a project for some pre-schoolers and want to hide all wiring and switches from those "inquiring minds" and "wandering" hands. Thx in advance. Paul D

In order to get back to a class I had started previously, I had navigate to it by browsing classes. This seems like a bug, but if there's something I'm doing wrong please let me know. Basement Closet Storage

Hi When I redid my basement a couple of years ago, I thought I was being a hero and built a huge storage closet. However, as my daughter as reminded me nearly everyday, I screwed up. The shelves are 24" deep and stuff seems to get swallowed up into the back never to be seen again. What I would like to do is this - any help? I would like to install 3 32" "box store" bookshelves (15" deep) against the back wall of the closet. Then, install another 2 of those bookshelves in front of the back ones on some sort of sliding rail(s) on the floor. What I am trying to accomplish is that when someone needs to get to one of the back bookshelves, they would slide one of the front ones over to reveal the back thereby allowing easy access to all "missing" stuff. Hope I made sense. Thanks

L298N Information

I have a L298N Dual H-Bridge Motor Driver, which I believe is from SainSmart as it matches the one they are currently selling here exactly. The reason I am not 100% sure is that I picked mine at one of those stores that sells lost mail and packages and I only paid 50 cents for it. I have searched through many different instructables, and other places, but I am not finding the information that I want/need. I think I understand most the this little board except for the In1, IN2, IN3, & IN4. On the one I have these are jumpers. (See link above) My question is exactly what are these for and how do you set them up to use two DC motors (Not stepper motors). Also I have read that if the Vcc supply voltage is between 7Vdc and 35Vdc that the 5Vdc connection can be used as an output but I can't find anything that tells me how to set this up since I assume that if you can do this it can be used to power an Arduino or Raspberry PI ( I have an Uno Rev 3 & R-Pi3). Can anyone either tell about these things or point to a link so I can read about them myself. Thanks to all! MC

New Online Marketplace for Disabled Crafters

There is a new online marketplace which contracts with disabled individuals to sell their high quality, homemade crafts on his/her behalf.  Please stop by http://www.craftedelegance.org I am disabled due to a chronic illness and have been unable to find an employer to hire me to work from home, so I created this online marketplace to sell my glycerin soap and opened it up to other disabled crafters as well.  I take care of the business aspect of selling your crafts and your only worry is to make your crafts and ship them directly to the customer when you are notified someone has bought your product.  Be sure to stop by our forum and read our blog as well.  Our forum has two levels to it...one for the general public and one for the crafters.  It is a way for us to support each other in our everyday struggles with our individual chronic illnesses or physical impairments.

REQUEST: Mark Instructable as Video Only

I would REALLY like to see a feature added to Instructables that would mark projects that only contain a video as "video only." While I don't mind watching someone do something - sometimes that will help illustrate a point better than words ever could - for the most part I like to do this really weird thing called reading. I know in this day and age, the desire to read the printed word is seen as obsolete and old-fashioned, but surely I cannot be alone in this! If I wanted to watch videos, I'd go to youtube. 99.99% of the time, if I click on a project and it's only a video, I click off of it, but by then, not only have I wasted that time (albeit even only a few seconds), I have also increased that project's view count. Just my two cents, worth what it is in this economy...

USnooBie

The USnooBie is a microcontroller kit that does not require any sort of AVR programmer or USB-to-serial converters to load and run compiled code. It's hardware design allows the user to develop low cost USB devices with Atmel's AVR ATmega microcontrollers. It can also be used to develop projects which are not USB devices. It is even compatible with Arduino. No AVR programmer is needed and no USB-to-serial converter is needed to bootload. The bootloader uses native USB and works with AVRDUDE. This makes USnooBie the fastest and cheapest way to get started programming AVR microcontrollers AVRDUDE is cross platform, so it works on Windows, Linux, and Macs. Make V-USB based USB devices using AVR microcontrollers, great for making keyboards, mice, joysticks, gamepads, and other neat gadgets. Of course, you can also make non-USB projects as well because USnooBie uses the same microcontroller as Arduino. Compatible with Arduino. Thin design for use with breadboards or plugs straight into a USB port. Operating voltage is selectable between 5V and 3.3V by a jumper. Protection diode and self-resetting fuse protects your computer from over voltage, reverse current, and short circuits. Buy one from Seeed Studio Instructions and Tutorials on the Official Website

Metric Measurements

I love Instructables, but I find that I use it less and less lately. The main reason is the need to go through all the instructions and convert all the measurements from the old British system to the metric system that everyone else in the world uses. I do have a plugin for my browser, but it doesn't work on my tablet or phone, which I use more often when building stuff. It's 2017. Literally 95% of the worlds's population uses the metric system, and we have computers. Is it not possible for you guys to knock up a little programming routine that converts all the measurements if I'm in a metric country? I understand this is an American site aimed at an American audience, but it seems you're cutting off a huge number of potential site users here.

Pressure system leak alert

Hi, from a brand new poster. I have a farm water pressure system in a shed, mostly watering troughs for stock. When there is a slow or fast leak, I waste water, at expense.  They could be broken valves to pin holes in pipes. The pressure is system is run by 240V mains, (Australia) via a plug into a socket, as normal. There is a smart meter in the shed. Stock generally don't drink much from midnight to 5am. If there is a constant leak, the pressure system will cycle during the night. What I want to know is, is there a way to trigger an indicator that shows the pressure system is cycling overnight between set hours (12 - 5am)?  Eg, a few cycles may be acceptable, 5-10 are not.  When noticed, I can go to the shed, further investigate, and reset the trigger. I also have capacity to read water pressure at my house, on the same system, which will fluctuate as the pressure system cycles.  If I could easily track and record the pressure fluctuations, I would also know if there is a leak. Apparently I could install a flow meter with a wifi or sms system, but that sounds expensive and complicated.  I don't use a flow meter as it is not needed. So we have power usage, pressure switch triggering, water flow, water pressure , noise, and pump heat as indicators, at the pump shed. I have line of sight to the shed from my house, about 500m away.  I could see any alert lights daily, both at dark in the evening, and in morning daylight.  They could be 240V or battery powered.  I am currently tapping into the pressure switch to run a light.  The problem is 1. I have to be awake then to check a light. 2. it takes time for long cycles to occur. For all I know there may be something available already, which I have not yet found. I don't have need, yet, to be alerted as an absentee manager (eg sms alert). I know there are fancy systems available for sale for that. Any technical ideas would be most welcome, thanks, including combinations of the engineers parameters - cheap, strong, quick.

Timed Arduino, Solar Panel, Battery & 12V Pump HELP

Hi all, I'm a struggling to do a project in less than 1 week for a charity and wondering if the www can help. I'm a complete electronics/Arduino beginner so please break any suggestions down, thanks! The challenge: I need a little water pump to run for 3 seconds with a 10 minute pause completely off the grid 24/7 from a battery. I need the battery to be charged using a solar panel and hold enough storage to run 2 days without sunlight. An Arduino is also needed to change the duration and interval of the pump. What I know: The pump requires ~12v @ ~270mA (5W) and 64.8mAH (for 2 days of operation) (pump runs for 18s per hour = 0.05h per hour 0.05h x 270mA = 1.35mAH 1.35 x 48hrs = 64.8mAH) I also need to be able to take the battery on a flight so please recommend a suitable battery for the system (I was thinking maybe the Li-ion 18650? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/311727421481?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName;=STRK:MEBIDX:IT). (Please also recommend any required components) Any help is much appreciated!

Best Type and Source for Omni Directional Wheels?

I am currently in the process of compiling a shopping list for an omni directional robot a team and myself are planning to put together. For this, wheels that go both forward/backward and left/right are needed. From what I have found, there are two variations: Omni and Mecanum wheels. Due to our design, we will be needing Omni style wheels.  However, doing some research, I haven't been able to find much of a selection! So far, robotshop is the only website that actively stocks them, and they sell two brands/types, one being VEX.  Is there a generic name for these types of wheels? Where would I be able to find more/a different source for them? Why are they so expensive? If you've used an omni wheel, what type/brand was it, and what was your opinion on it? The big problem is, is that we need to mount the wheels onto 5mm stepper motor axles. Half of the wheels I found on robotshop had square bores, and the other half used an interchangeable hub, none supporting a 5mm axle. Any ideas as of what to do here? We would like to get four wheels, preferably for less than 50$.

Could not change profile image

Hello *.*, I want to update my profile image. For this I login, klick on You and Edit Profile. After this I click Upload New Photo. After this I see, that the Upload new Image dialog fades in. But this happens behind the Edit Profile dialog. With the Chrome Debugger I moved the dialog by changing the css, so I can send a screenshot. If I click in the upload dialog then the edit dialog disappered. An upload does not change the profile image after this. I tired this with the actual Chrome and Firefox browser. In both the same. Any idea for me? Thanks Mark

Password reset

I'm not sure if this is a true bug, but here goes nothing: I tried to log in to add a comment to an Instructable, but I couldn't seem to recall my password, so I used the (lost username/password?) link at the bottom of the dialog screen and entered my e-mail. Sure enough, I received an email from you letting me log in using a reset code: Username: taserian Reset code: [CODE REPLACED] Reset here: [LINK REPLACED] But when I try to reset my password, it still asks me for my old one, which is what I couldn't remember in the first place. The reset code and link only allowed me to enter the site using my account, but won't allow me to reset my password without using my older one. To re-enter my account after shutting down my computer, I would have to resend a request for a lost username/password. The reset link should drop you into a page that allows you to reset your password. Thank you.

Your cat

This is a place to post pictures of your cat or cats (not internet downloaded exept from places like flickr on your account) and talk about them.

My kitten

Hey guys! Ifinally got my new kitten! If you remember, I asked a question on how I could make a litterbox, and that I might get a new kitten. Well, I got it, and her name is Chloe.

Total Views vs Referrers

I will refer to this post that received no apparent answer, so I will ask again since this post is so old. https://www.instructables.com/community/Referrers-data/ I have found that I have an iblle that has 20k+ Total Views.  Hurray for me!  First time I have received so many views in such a short time.  So, I went to view the stats to try to see where the traffic is coming from.  After looking at the Referrers I see that the numbers for Referrers only ads to 3000+ Shouldn't Total Views = Referrers? If not, hopefully someone could explain to give value to these stats. Thanks The Water Dog
