Charging a 70Ah 12volt battery with solar panels

Hi seen your ads on google very enlightening. Was wondering if you could advise me. I have 2 strip lights that i run off my 1000w invertor poweredby a 12v car battery that dies after a while. My kids bought me 2 x 20w solar panels12v. Can i just join the negs and positives together from the panels and connect straight to the battery neg and pos or is more involved. I also have another battery I can join too,Would i need diodes and a controller also? thanks in advance Dougie

Why did Text/Photos Disappear from my Instructable? | HOW TO FIX!

If I had a dollar for every time I accidentally clicked on another place on the screen while working on an Instructable, resulting in loss of data... Even if you click the save button many times, if you suddenly quit, the editor won't remember what you did. I've seen SO MANY comments saying that the editor didn't save what they wrote right before uploading, so I decided to share what I do to help stop this... Most members will see this forum topic only when it's too late, but at least they might remember this for future I'bles... 1. Open a "Preview" version of the Instructable in a new tab. If your computer crashes, you might be able to restore previous tabs, and your computer should remember what was written in the preview. Then you can copy and paste everything where it needs to be... 2. Send yourself an email of each step. Just copy and words of each step and paste them on one draft email... 3. Take screenshots. At least you'll be able to see what you wrote... Hope this helps! Please leave ideas of what else you can do in the comments

Turbine generator with heat pump

I got another weird idea that I like to share as I don't see me putting into reality anytime soon but someone else might do it for me after reading it ;) If you like me and call home where it is far too hot for most of the year you might have wondered how to cut the energy bills down. Especially if you in a remote area "off the grid". Sounds interesting? Then just do me the favour of posting here if you plan to put into reality and keep us updated ;) Technology has come long way and with some mirror like Mylar foil anyone can build big reflectors to use the sun for heating all sorts of things. Modern solar hot water systems are designed to produce a temp high enough to kill all harmfull stuff that might otherwise grow in our system but we can one step further: (Keep in mind it is just an idea with no prototype to proofe the concept works as expected!) Using heat pipes in a round reflector that is linked to solar tracker would allow us to boil water for as long as the sun is out there. Don't know if the flat types used for hot water systems are capable of producing steam but someone might have an old one at hand and is willing to test it on a sunny day? Anyway, assuming we can build a large enough array of solar ovens heating water pipes it is possible to drive a turbine with the steam. A linked generator of suitable size would now provide the electricity we might need to charge batteries or to power other things. But of course this would be total waste of the remaining energy in the steam! Plus we could really need some airconditioner, don't we? So in my vision we don't want to waste the water either, which mean we not only use the heat but also reuse the water to go back into the solar oven. If we now use an uscaled version of our RV fridge and instead of a heating element or a flame our remaining heat from the steam we can power a big fridge and an airconditioner on the same continous-cycle-ammonia-fridge type to cool what we need. Depending on the size and insulation rating of a house it is possible to be totally independent from the power grid during the sunny times. During the winter times the same generator can be combined with a ducted heating system where the waste heat of it is used to produce the steam we need. Of course integrating this into one unit would be the prefered option to keep the physical dimensions small. Combine all this with some good sized battery backup and inverter system and you might have enough juice to spare to make it through a cloudy day or two. Add some wind generators if you are in a suitable area to provide additional electricty. I think with new parts and some handy work it should be possible to create such a system for under $3000US. With access to some well sorted scrap yards even for free, not counting consumables, selants and so on... Sadly I don't own a house and currently not even have a garage to set up a little workshop so for now it stays an idea only... Tried to find some sponsors or at least people with interest to create something like this down here but it is like trying to explain quantum physics to a hundred year old in the retirement village. Sure, you can build something that would give me electricity and cooling for free? ... Of course it will work, so come back and show me once you made it.... If that crap could work, why are still buying fridges that run on electricty and airconditioners that drain our bank accounts?... We have 5 cooling containers outside runningon generators that use over 200liters of fuel every day and come try to tell me a steam generator can cut me fuel bills down by at least 50% if not more?... Just some of the more friendlier responses I got after trying to find some interest. Don't know if it is problem of the Aussie mentality or if I am just unable to make someone understand that we can use the scorching sun for free :( But I am not willing to give up on the idea itself, so what do you think? Oh! You have the financial means and access to create some prototype to integrate into a new cool house or  self sustaining home? Please feel free to contact me so we can start and make a living out of it ;)

DIY Outdoor Event Searchlight

In am interested in building an outdoor event searchlight or advertising spotlight that you might find at the opening of a Hollywood premier. Basically, an intense beam of light projecting miles into the sky to attract people to a location.  I searched Instructables and found some projects for stage spotlights but nothing like an outdoor searchlight. I did locate some complicated Carbon Arc and Xenon lamp projects but these involved a lot of expertise in electrical engineering! I am a novice but I am comfortable with basic "household' wiring. With that said, my thought was to try using 7 or 8 (maybe more) 55w car Xenon HID (6000k range) headlights as my light source. Xenon HID produce three times the light output as standard halogen headlamps (3000 lumens vs 1000 lumens) and require less energy. The "conversion kits" come with the igniter module and inverter ( ballasts) which reduces the amount of electrical wiring. At this point, the power source could be to use 110v household AC current and then, using a AC to DC converter, turn it into DC voltage and let the "conversion kit" components change it back to AC.  From what little I know, Xenon HID take about 25,000 volts to start a Xenon bulb and then 80-90 volts to keep it operating. During operation the AC ballast frequency is usually in the 250 to 450 Hz range. Each bulb draws around 6.5 amps at startup and then stabilizes at around 3.8 amps. Next, I would place the bulbs into the center of a Ellipsoidal Reflector to direct the light skyward. Basically, the 7-8 Xenon HID bulbs would be secured to a piece of sheet metal and then surrounded by a reflector so it would be like a VERY large headlight pointing into the sky. In one of the YouTube videos, the guy used a trashcan as the housing. I am not looking for something this large but similar in concept.  I located an Ellipsoidal Reflector on Ebay for about $55 and then I might just build a housing around it.  But would the reflector be enough to concentrate the light into a strong beam? Or, would I need to have some sort of lens to focus the light? If anybody has constructed something similar of if you have any pointers on what to do, please let me know.

Medal/Badge On Page, What does it mean?

Hey guys, this may seem like a simple question but I wasn't sure what it means and after looking through the forums I couldn't find any answers. At the top of my Instructable there is a medal/badge looking icon, what does this indicate? Thanks!

Our Homemade Short Films

Hi everyone! Just wanted to share with you the homemade short films we make! We, the fathomlis team, and our eldest brother sometimes come together as 'MidNight' to create these. We do the acting, he does the rest. Most of them don't  have a story at all, but with Only a Month we tried to at least have some kind of plot line. Just be advised, These shorts aren't really professional or anything. Hope you enjoy! Comment what you think... Here are a few... Check out the rest here. Can I post this?

Hi, I am a beginner and I created an account a couple of days before, there are few basic things I would like to know. Kindly bear with me if they feel silly, please guide. I would like to know : Can I post a link in my instructable for the readers which could direct them to popular website like Wikipedia or GitHub (One of the Largest Open Source Community) or someone's personal blogspot for gaining more information on a topic? Can I post a link for download of a free software  for readers related to the project I made instructable on? for example a free software to help readers calculate LED resistance? I would highly appreciate guidance, suggestions. Thanks AMK

Deus Ex Shades

Alright folks. Those of you who are gamers must know about the last Deus Ex game that came out about a year ago. Ever since I first played that game I wanted to get my hands on working replicas of the retractable sunglasses that the main character, Adam Jensen wears in the game. The only problem is, I have not an ounce of knowledge on electronics. I can make shapes out of plastic and so on, so this would be no problem for me if I wanted to just make shades that didn't retract. I tried figuring out how to make these things by myself, but the world of electronics just proved to be way too complex for me to want to delve into just to work on this one project. So if anyone wants to help make this, here's what I have in mind... In the first picture we see Adam Jensen, sporting the shades. Notice how in the game the casings don't really have enough space for the shades to retract into. This is something that wouldn't work in the real world. There's a picture of a cosplayer that I've found online. As you can see, a realistic version of these shades would require the casings to continue all the way back towards the ear. Finally, if you look at the little picture I drew, you can see the basics of what I have in mind. Basically; we need a mechanism that will propel the glasses forward in some sort of a rail system at the push of a remote control button. We can hide this button on our person to secretly push it and create the effect of the user just controlling the shades mentally. You hit the button and, Woosh! The shades slam shut. If need be, this could be made so that the glasses need to be pushed into place manually after releasing them. Whatever works. The little silver circles at the ends of the glasses would work perfectly as batteries. Also, because the shades would be glued on to the face, our primary concerns with the parts we choose would be to keep them very light, very small, and to keep the parts very stable. If anyone wants to pick this project up, please let me know so that I can help as much as I possibly can. I really, REALLY want to see this happen.

Flea treatment for our pets....

I recently had to move house and within two weeks of settling in my cats got attacked by fleas while outside. All the years they had not a single tick or flea so I did not pay too much attention until I spotted the first flea. Needless to say that once you spot one there are many hiding already... From past experience with my dog I did not trust the over the counter flea collars and decided to go to my vet. They recommended Frontline for the treatment, plus a flea bomb to treat the house and washing everything the cats like to sleep on. Came to just under $100AU - ouch... Mind you I have hardwood floors here, so I was quite confident the bomb would could kill all what might remain inside. The cats were kept indoors too to prevent new fleas finding them outside. Well, after two weeks of daily combing for fleas the problem did not get better - it got worse! Seemed they were having parties on my cats. Back to the vet to complain I was told it might take a bit longer to show the desired results. Hmmm, treatment every 4 weeks and after 2 weeks nothing happened?? On the way out an old couple with their two maltesers stopped me and said that they already gave up on Frontline and most other products as the fleas around here are resistant to the meds. They now only use Neem oil that is massaged into the skin and fur of their dogs. Sadly my cats would rather scratch me into meat strips then to let get near them with the oil. So I did some asking around with my friend Google and the story of the old folks seems to be confirmed for most parts of Australia anyway. Most flea collars and over the counter meds might still work to keep fleas away but not anymore to actually treat your pet once infected with more than a handful of fleas. And yes, I am aware of those sprays claiming to kill all fleas instantly but I also know cats like to clean themself and don't like the idea of them liking the spray off the fur. After some more digging I found out that Selamectin is still working and that works in several ways to control fleas and other parasites like heartworm and such. You can look it up on Wiki if you like. What I like about this med is the fact that fleas are really filthy things eating their own excremts. Since the poo is usually everywhere in the fur and hard to remove it makes the killing even easier. Plus in all spots where fles might be hiding but have noone to feed on they still eat their own ..... and die off. My vet only had Revolution available at a price of almost 25 bucks per single dose - no thank you... Instead I decided to bite the bullet and try one of the many online pharmacies for pet supplies. Here I found "Stronghold" containing the above Selamectin similar to Revolution in concetration (bit higher though)... The website stated to expect about 4 weeks for the delivery being xmas season and so on. For me that meant cleaning everything again, using a normal insect bomb again and a last round of washing the cats caves and other items of interest. To my surprise the parcal arrived ten days later, bit banged up but contents still fine. All up the time for the Frontline was over anyway and instead of paying again for a useless treatment I gave the new stuff a try. This was now two weeks ago and here is my summary: Unlike treating with Frontline my cats actually tolerated the application without going mad, the smell is much more pleasant. Did not expect anything to happen the first day and it takes a while to dry off the furr anyway so they got a day free of the dreaded flea comb. During the first week there was little to no indication of anything good happening but it was to be expected as it takes up to 10 days to build up in the blood as well. On day eight I had my first dead fleas in the comb and from here it got more every day. Mostly the adults while the smaller ones still seemd to be active. To the end of the second week I also got dead young ones in the comb indicating the promised break preventing them to grow up actually works. I will still monitor the process and keep up with monthly treatments during the summer. So you might see an update or two later on. How to properly treat your pet and enviroment once you noticed a flea problem. First: Don't panic! If you have carpet or your pets literally go everyhwere like your bed, sofa and so on you want to combine your effords to avoid a fresh infestation from hatching eggs. Ask around or check online if standard meds still have the desired effect in your local area, if not go for a product that does instead of wasting time and money! Spray treatments or insect bombs can work quite well to control what's left behind by your pet but you need to be aware of the life cycle of the pest in question. For most, including fleas, this means a single treatment might not do the trick. See it that way: You treat the animal, clean everything you can and also kill whatever crawls around. But there is still unhatched eggs and living fleas on your pet. So you need or better should repeat the house treatment 8 to 14 days later to get rid of whatever hatched. Garden beds or just your lawn can be a source of problem too, here Neem oil seems to do the trick quite well but you can use other products from your local garden center as well. What kills most harmful insects out there on your plant will do similar on fleas. To get the timing of all treatments right you might want to start on your pet and use a good, normal clean for the house and fabrics. Once you see the fleas go dead on your pet treat the rest. This way you can be sure all fles that make it onto your pet won't survive or produce more viable eggs. Now use whatever suits you to remove or kill the eggs, larvea and crawling fleas around you. If done right and the meds take care of eggs too you won't have any further problems. Regular checks should be done anyway and if you already know fleas are a problem in your area then please continue the treatment on your pet until the season is over. Things you might want to know to calm down a bit and prevent panic: Fleas on your pet are usually only biting them but not you. This does not mean they won't try if you have hundreds of them crawling in your bed. But they won't stay on you and it takes a good amount of bad luck to get bitten instead of just noticing something crawls on you. So the risk of getting some weird desease from an accidental flea bit is slim. When to be careful with a flea infestation? If you are allergic to their excrements or have an otherwise compromised immune system the dust containing flea excrements can cause reactions. So if your pets got you a lot of fleas and you notice breathing problems, red skin areas or itching you should contact your GP to discuss the problem and possible options. Short term a normal paper face mask like used for dust will help, same for anti-histamines if it is an allergic reaction. The best cause of action is to use a vacuum cleaner with HEPA filter on everything that might get into contact with your pets. A standard vacuum cleaner will pick up the extremets too but just blows it out the other end making things far worse.

Arduino Controlled LED "Aircraft Runway" lights?

Excuse me Please: I have a project with a specific need, which I "think" an Arduino and LED strips can meet. The effect I would like is to have the LEDs all dimly lit, and have a single/few run along the length of the strip with increased brightness and returning to the dim intensity once past. think: aircraft runway lights. also, which I think may overly complicate the project, I need like ten strips all running concurrently, each with singular/few brighter LEDs running the length and randomly repeating. does what I explain make sense?

I just discovered that the K-nex like building set I have isn't K-nex!  The pieces I have are larger and are made of a softer material.  They work well for children in the 2-5 yo range.  Would anyone know what these pieces are called?   The 1000 pieces of K-nex are going to have to wait a few years..... Hey guys i've recently received an Arduino Uno (tech-mas gifts !) and have started trying stuff out, i also had 2 old cellphones that i hadn't used for years, so i scavenged the vibrators and screens and left the rest untouched(no ripping appart, worry not) now i see that the screens both have a plastic thing with a lot if very tiny pins sticking out of them, and i wonder if there would be any way i can connect these to the arduino and use them as displays (was thinking of a smart-not-phone, wich does all the funny stuff a smartphone does without the phonecalls), please keep in mind i have a very basic set of tools (the arduino, a breadboard and the "starter pack"(with leds resistors ect...), plus a soldering iron, and would like to keep this project salvage based if possible (no money for smart-not-phones) info i could find on the displays: 1st one is a LMS240GF12,(non touchscreen) i couldnt find any info on this model but a few similar displays with lms241 or 242 names exist, so i guess the specs should be similar ? 2nd one is the touchscreen that came with a HTC Wildfire phone, and i think the display serial would be A3333 G8 but i'm not sure, none of the information is labelled and internet has been of little help as of now ^^. If you have any tips or need more info i'll be glad to receive them

How Can I Reduce Current Without Dropping The Voltage?

Hello friends,                       i am making home automation with IR sensor , The problem is that the IR sensor sends random garbage values to arduino's serial monitor when connected to external power supply. The external power supply has output of 5v DC voltage and 2000mA current. The whole system worked perfectly when I take power from computer's USB port . The problem is how to reduce the current to 0 -500 mA of external power supply. thank you !

Electronics Project Ideas which do not use Microcontrollers

In the past I have used various dev boards(Arduino,RasPi,Intel Edison, Particle Photon, etc) for projects. I am planning to make a couple of projects which DO NOT require the use of a Microcontroller. For some reason  I have this mental blockade of innovative ideas which I can implement without using a Microcontroller. If you have any cool non-microcontroller based project ideas, share them in the comments below & I'll try to make an Instructable out of them.

Looking for Magnets and / or Permenent Magnet Generators 12 Volts for Africa

Hello, I am working with a couple of young men in Togo, West Africa. They sell solar panels, and because batteries are so expensive, it they did one of them bike rim windmills, and generated 12 volts, during the nights, the houses could power up LED lights. Which 12 volt generator would you recommend to buy on Ebay? Please paste a link. What specific magnets are good for the bike rim, please give me the specific link on ebay. I hope someone has done this, and does know how, I can search.. . I watch so many videos it drives me crazy, I want to replicate, and often the buying details are not included. Thanks, Andy Lee Graham Travel Writer for Merry Christmas hoboontheroad   AT

How to weave a keffiyeh?

Whether you call it a shemagh, coalition scarf, keffiyeh, or ghutrah, it is an eye-catching article of clothing that has hundreds of practical uses aside from looking chic. Unfortunately, in the last couple of decades, the keffiyeh have been associated (wrongfully so) with terrorism and extremism of the Middle-Eastern sort. Yes, Islamic extremists have been known to wear keffiyat, but I'm pretty sure I've heard of them drinking milk, too. The practical uses of keffiyat are almost limitless. Aside from keeping dust and sand out of your face, they retain moisture quite well. The ShamWow has NOTHING on this age-old masterpiece. In a survival situation, they can be used to bind a wound, make a splint, prevent heat stroke, and military applications are limited only to imagination. I've heard stories of Marines using shemaghs as rifle slings, belts, and even mops for cleaning a mess hall.  Anybody can buy a keffiyeh from Army Surplus, or get a bolt of fabric, cut a square of it out, wrap it around their heads, and call it a shemagh, but I'd like to be able to weave my own. Trouble is, I don't know how to weave. Are there any Instructabots here who are both experienced at weaving and willing to devote hours of monotony to making an instructable for this?

I Need Help In Understanding Electric Motor Dynamometer Testing AC and DC

OK extremely long time reader but first time poster. I need some help understanding dynamometer for electric motors. I would like to test motors under load up to 5HP. I have several motors and I would like to use a selected motor as the generator load. I understand this is a very broad question but I have to start somewhere.   What are some things I might need? Here are some things I have. Motor speed controller  Motor torque controller Electric motors off all sizes 1/3 to 20HP Some have a brake installed. Would I need to use a motor with a brake and apply the brake as the load? I don't want to use water or any fluids as a braking system. Also regenerative would be great also. I thank you for the help.

can you help identify kite parts

I wondered if anyone could help me identify some kite parts.  I won a huge lot at the local auctions including literally thousands of kite making parts. (I have a lot more not imaged here) Unfortunately, I have little experience with kites and the scale of the volume I have acquired is a little daunting. So I thought I would ask the experts for help :) So far I think I have managed to identify the following: 22,000 4mm end caps 6,000 3mm spar/eap 1500 i think small douge (the yellow things that look a bit like bullet casings .. they could also be end caps but i am completely without a clue on this one) 500 rubber bands 6,000 5mm end caps 3,000 6mm end caps 8,000 3mm rubber gromets Tones of name tags I know there are a number of notched end caps I think the curved bits of plastic were 3 rods can attached are called dihedrals. 65 kites The fabric parts of around 10 large kites made by greens of Burnley (a lot of them branded as the pioneer range) I haven't measured but im guessing around 9ft across I think the lot originally came from Greens of Burnley who are no longer trading but I have found their archived site If you could help by identifying some of the parts/ what the pioneer range of kites is possibly a place where I can sell some of the kit (there's far to much for me to work with here) I would be relly grateful :) PS ill put up more photo's if anyone is interested.  PPS I have just found some info on the Greens of Burnley kites PPPS I found the original image I think I have a few boxers from the range.

Help? Chunk glass hanging lamp how-tos

Hiya, I'm a noob. I love the look of chunk glass lamps, and like hanging swag / pendant lamps, but the real thing is ridiculously expensive. So, I'd like to make one. The wiring is reasonably straightforward, any one of the kit things would work fine. Where I'm running into trouble is how to put it together. I know it's going to be heavy, which is ok; Elephant hooks from Amazon claim they can support a hundred pounds if put into a rafter.  What I'm looking for is how to make the thing to attach the glass to. A lot of the existing ones (If you search google for 'chunk glass lamp' you'll find what I'm interested in) use either molded lead or mortar. I'm kind of looking for a slightly lighter weight solution; I'd rather the weight be pretty rather than structural.  An idea I originally had was something like a 3d printed frame, maybe in sections that can snap together with a network of supports to glue the glass to, to allow a thin smear of mortar or clay or something to cover it, so the light only comes through the glass.  I know many of the original ones from the 60s and 70s were lucite vs glass, Big hunks of glass seem relatively easy to find, big hunks of plastic not so much. If anyone has a good source for either or both, I'd love to hear.  Be gentle, it's my first time here. :)  (Tried to attach a file, but I'm at work, and it looks like the network is nuking it. Just search google for 'chunk glass lamp' and you'll find dozens.)

Logging in bug

Hi guys, I've noticed that this happens a lot when you try to log in via mobile devices, such as iPad. As you know, when you click "sign in", in the panel that pops up, there is a picture with a link saying upgrade to premium or something similar. What happens is that when you click the first line to enter your username, that page suddenly glitches, and scrolls down, so you end up hitting upgrade to premium. This is very annoying, especially if you are viewing an I'ble or forum topic and you want to reply or comment on it, as you have to find it again. I hope that this will be fixed soon, maybe by removing the big "upgrade to premium" or whatever is there. thx in advance super_me

Swapping out a lead acid electric bike battery for a Lithium Ion one.

Hi folks. I have a fairly old but still quite serviceable Thompson Euro Classic electric bike that runs on a 36v lead acid electric battery pack with a brushless motor. I've just been offered a 36v lithium ion bike battery that I would love to use but I'm not too sure if it would be the right choice, my main reason for the change is simply weight consideration, the current battery pack comprises of three 12v batteries and weighs in at a hefty 28lb the replacement weighs a little under 4lb, this would very obviously make quite a difference in the bikes 87lb overall weight. However weight isn't the only consideration, I would like to extend the range of my bike and with a little work and some suitable wiring and a couple of switches I could quite easily use the battery as a second power source for longer rides, I fitted a large plastic  tool box onto a rear carrier when I first bought the bike which would easily accommodate the battery or I could possibly even add an external carrier for it behind the seat, the current battery is good for around fifteen to twenty miles depending on how many hills I hit & how much I feel like pedalling, I hoping that an additional battery would double the range meaning I could rely on it to visit nearby towns without having to worry about finding somewhere I can give the battery a booster charge. My main worry is about damage to the motor, I know very little about electric bike motors and having read so many stories about these batteries suffering from overheating problems and even catching fire I am more than a little concerned I could damage to my only transport, I usually ride motorcycles but thanks to a couple of health issues I'm currently grounded so apart from walking which can be pretty limiting this bike is my only way to get around without spending a fortune on public transport I'm looking for advice from people who know about electric bikes and their motors who could give me some simple advice in layman's terms on how to proceed, please don't blind me with all sorts of technical jargon as it really wouldn't help, I'm not stupid it just isn't my field of expertise. Thanks in advance for your help. NG.

Mobile phone wind generator

Hi at school, I am making a mobile phone generator. It's only GCSE so my apologies for my lack of knowledge. It is meant to be a "wind generator" but it can basically be a renewable generator via motion. So since I get to take it home afterwards I designed it to be a little record player where you turned the platter and it would change a phone. This is where I need some help. Would this 24v motor provide enough juice to charge a lithium ion battery (with a boost or buck converter [if needed to step down to an appropriate voltage] then a constant current protection circuit etc) the output 5v to charge your phone? Here is the motor:|pcrid|88056614883|pkw||pmt||prd|2483716&gclid;=CjwKEAiA4dPCBRCM4dqhlv2R1R8SJABom9pHi1B_sRuR-4nr15ce-EWd51aCsEfYqFBsUJioUXEpvRoC1unw_wcB Thanks! For non-British readers :  a GCSE is (in the UK except Scotland) a qualification in a specific subject typically taken by school students aged 14–16, at a level below A level.

HI. My mom is bed ridden and we have to give her baths in bed. We have tried several different foaming no-rinse soaps and have found on that works the best: Medline Remedy 4-in-1 Body Cleanser. It is good in so many ways, pH Balanced, Non-allergenic, leaves her skin soft, smells great...nice sort of mango-vanilla smell. Problem is, it's $10 + per bottle, depending on where we get it. Here is the product description: Remedy 4-in-1 Body Cleanser cleanses, moisturizes, provides mild protection against transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and nourishes skin in one step. Helps reduce odor. Optimizes shelf space and nursing time. Ready-to-use, no-rinse foam stays in place to prevent product spills, waste and patient discomfort. One bottle contains over 340 pumps of foam.Harsh soaps and surfactants strip skin of moisture and contribute to TEWL. Remedy 4-in-1 Cleansers have a phospholipid base that binds both water and nutrients to gently clean and condition the skin. Remedy cleansers contain ingredients derived from natural and organic oils that mimic the body's natural lipids. Remedy cleansers can also be used during showers in place of soaps. The phospholipids will gently cleanse the skin without stripping it from its natural oils.Olivamine is a blend of antioxidants, amino acids, vitamins and methylsulfonylmethane (MSM). These ingredients are all known to play a vital role in basic cellular construction and protection. Olivamine contains antioxidants like hydroxytyrosol, the most potent antioxidant known today (derived from olives). It also contains amino acids like L-proline, L-cysteine and glycine - three of the main building blocks of collagen. These components are also treated with photoacoustic resonance to help minimize the tendency for inflammation, and to ensure they can be rapidly accepted by the skin.No-rinse foam for head-to-toe cleansing and conditioning. Indicated for hair, body, perineal and peristomal areas.Remedy is a trademark of Medline Industries, Inc. UPC is: 0 80196 30616 2 CAN ANYONE COME UP WITH A LESS EXPENSIVE, HOME-MADE OPTION TO THIS? How to seal unused drain pipe?

The short version: I have an old PVC sewer drain pipe that comes up out of a concrete slab floor.  Under the floor, the other end of the pipe connects to other drain pipes in the house, so before I cover the area with more carpeting, I'd like to seal that pipe off permanently to avoid any possible leakage in the future.  I'd like to avoid disturbing the concrete floor, if possible.  I'd like to put some kind of plug in the pipe and glue it into place with common PVC primer and cement, but I don't know if there's any kind of plug made for this purpose. Any suggestions? The details: I've taken down a non-load-bearing wall in my house.  The wall used to carry pipes for water (coming down from the second floor above), natural gas (embedded in the concrete slab floor), and sewer (also embedded in the slab).  These were all used for a poorly-positioned laundry room.  I've easily sealed the copper pipes for the water and natural gas, but I'm left wondering what to do with this two-inch sewer drain pipe. At first, I thought of covering it with a PVC cap, but to do that, I would need to chip away part of the concrete floor far enough down so the cap wouldn't be above the floor surface.  I would also need to be careful not to break the pipe as I chipped away the concrete.  If I were successful with that and then glued a cap on at the right height, then I would need to fill the space around it with a small amount of concrete.  Besides not wanting to damage the pipe, I'm sure I'd make a real mess of the carpet nearby. Then, I thought, rather than gluing a cap over the *outside* of the pipe, maybe there's some kind of cap that I can glue on the *inside* of it istead.  However, I don't know of any such pipe fitting.  It seems that all the home improvement stores around here sell fittings that go on the outside of the pipe.  So I'm looking for creative ways to plug up the end of this pipe. The other end of this pipe connects to other sewer pipes in the house that are currently in use.  I thought of possibly pouring a cement-like substance into the pipe to seal it, but I can't guarantee that it wouldn't go into the rest of the system and cause a disastrous plug for the whole thing. PS:  Excuse the orientation of the photos I've attached to this posting.  They looked fine on my phone, but when I upload them to Instructables, the site insists on rotating them. PPS: I do plan to cut the PVC pipe off even with the floor just before sealing it.  I'll use my trusty Dremel Multi-Max for that.

Google Analytics Integration

It'd be great to know more about where people are coming from when they land on an Instructable. The stats that are currently provided are limited (only provides the domain, not the full url) and don't add up to the total views. If the author could input a google analytics tracking id, then the tracking coding could automatically be included and the author could have access to much more detailed information.

How to install Windows XP IN PLACE OF Android on a phone

I have a Moto E first gen smartphone and a copy of Windows XP lying around, and I was wondering if it would be possible to install XP in place of Android on it. I don't want to run XP on top of Android, I want to erase Android and make XP the only OS on the device. Is this possible? And yes, I know it wouldn't really be useful for anything, it's just for fun.

BUG & IDEA: Problems with the Instructables Analytics/Stats

Random Instructable that was chosen: If I click on stats, as shown in the screenshots that I posted in the comments section, I can see the amount of comments, which I think is a great feature. If I scroll down, I can see the websites that brought people to my I'ble. Pinterest, for example, is a big one, but why does it show from which country? I'd prefer having a "Total from Pinterest" instead of 5 views from France, 10 views from Australia, and 3 views from Russia, etc... Also, why does it matter if a view came from Android, iPhone, or iPad?  Is this possible? Also, instead of so many different ones, it would be interesting to have something similar to the analytics that are on YouTube. For example: STATS:  2207 views from Google 1381 views from Instructables search 458 views from Pinterest 197 views from Facebook 48 views from my Instructables Page

I have five existing wall lights that are hard wired to a single switch, running on 230v a/c It's impossible to run alternate wiring as it's all embedded in the walls (which are three feet thick.)   I am going to convert each light to be dual-function, with (a) background candle-LEDs and (b) a couple of 5w LED spotlights Already I have acquired 12v LED drivers and step-down transformers (12v to 5V) for the candle LEDs.   What I wanted to figure out was some electronincs to allow me to control them all by using the existing in-wall wires and perhaps replacing the wall switch with a push-button switch. What I had in mind was to be able to achieve different functions sequentially, possibly using an IC like a 4017. However, I'm only a beginner at electronics, and I haven't been able to figure out a way to do it.   One sequencing that would be effective, commencing with an all-off situation, would be:   1st press = candle lights only on   2nd press = LED spotlights on (Candle bulbs remain on)   3rd press =  All off   Cycle then repeats.   If this proves to be impossible, I also considered the idea of short and long presses, which could trigger a timer for the long press to acomplish some switching   The power of 230v a/c will also be travelling down the same wires to give power to the 12v LED drivers in each lamp, so I'm actually talking about sequential presses on a 230v a/c circuit.

Now I either need to copy and paste the link into the brwoser or start the comment tracker first to find them. It was really convinient to just click and get where it is needed - is there any chance to get this back working? Or is there a specific reason why the links are no longer clickable?
