Spring Airsoft Sniper Rifle

I want to build a large spring airsoft rifle that looks as realistic as possible. I will be using a large very strong spring from ace hardware. I want it to be as efficient as possible but i want it to also be very cheap. Any ideas? I would prefer a metal body, but wood or plastic would be ok. I was also wondering if somebody had a drawing of the trigger mech and magazine assembly. i was thinking a brass inner barrel with a larger metal or pvc outer barrel. i want the gun to look like the one in the picture. i think it's a mauser

App messing up and Adverts

It's been a while since I used this app. The number 1 reason is because the app messes up a lot and there have been no attempts to fix it. For some reason they decideded to make it so you have to sign in every time you use the app even if it was just 10 min ago. The problem is that you can't sign in from your app. It switches to the web browser to sign in and when you click facebook or sign in half the time it doesn't switch back to the app and the other half it just doesn't sign in. I started using the app again and here it is 2 years later and they still have not fixed the problem. Now I notice that it has advertisements in the middle of people's posts thanks for eating up my data. If these problems are not fixed I won't be using this again

18650 Battery Question - Battery Powered Heaters

Hi, I have a question before I begin a project.  I have carbon heater fabric that I want to make heated grips for my snowblower with.  I want to connect the ~0.5 meter x 15mm carbon tape to 2x18650 cells. Are there any precautions I need to take to make sure I dont "short" the batteries and cause damage/explosion etc?  I know technically I am shorting the batteries and making heat.. but how do I know if it is damaging the batteries or putting myself at risk for explosion?

Legalizing hobby distilling

Would you take a minute to contact your US Representatives about HR-2903 and US senators about S-1562?  It's a pair of bills that would enable small-time and hobby folk to distill small amounts of alcohol legally. Here's a link to the legislation itself (below).  There's a nice executive summary with a few bullet points.           https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/house-bill/2903 Here's a link to contact information for your representatives:           https://www.govtrack.us/congress/members/ Oh, you need your full ZIP code to contact most of these politicians.  Look yours up here:           https://tools.usps.com/go/ZipLookupAction!input.action YOU CAN DO IT!

Hello! I am a Filipina, Computer Engineering Student. I would like to ask for your help and also to seek ideas about the possible projects I can make in my Embedded System Class using Arduino. I'm eyeing "Biometrics Attendace System" as my project but I decided to look for a simpler project. Thankyou very much. :)

easy recharging method for child's toy

I want to use a rechargeable battery inside a toy, and I don't want to remove the battery for charging.  I'm looking for a simple and safe method for charging that a young child can do by themself.  Here are some thoughts I've had: wireless (such as with a qi pad) = Is there any way to actually keep this from getting hot?  I'm assuming the base would be always on, and the toy would be left on it all night or longer. solar = This requires a light or the sun to charge.  I'm considering putting the solar cell in the bottom of the toy and making a light base that it could be placed on, but I'd need some type of sensor or switch so it only lights when the toy is on it. metal contact pads = This would be easier than a plug since you'd only need to set the toy down, but can it be done safely?   Anybody have suggestions?  Thanks.

Take a Photo, Get a patch! (my new monthly give away)

Some of you may have noticed that I stopped doing my famous 'Desktops of [current month]' Forum topics.  These few days of past, I may have bought myself three cameras, so it prompted me to think. Thus I bring you my new monthly forum topic, which I hope more people can get involved with than the Desktop wallpaper topics. Essentially, every month I am going to post a topic with a distinct theme. The task then is for you guys to go out and take a picture along that theme, and post it as a comment. This months theme is an introductory one -    Camera Self Portrait Go and take a picture of your camera using your camera. Make the most of reflective surfaces, and interesting techniques. If you own more than one camera I want you to use your favourite, because this is the first topic, think of it as a 'hello, meet my camera'. You do not have to be in the photo, so you can still take part if your conscious of putting your picture on the webz. Remember, the best camera is the one you have with you. I know that one of you could easily take an amazing picture with your phone, while someone with a nice Canon 7D could struggle to find a nice shot.  Every person who posts gets a patch!  Here is a picture of me with my Canon just after I had got my 50mm prime lens!

UV Filter on a digital camera

I was told by a few people that UV filters are useless on a digital camera. I also listened to the sales guy when I bought a DSLR just recently and he said "No they serve no purpose for the pics with a digital camera, but it adds a layer of protection to the front lens. UV filters are cheap, I bought it based on the salesman's advice. Yesterday it paid for itself . I was getting ready to take some pics of the neighbors new sports car and he was showing off,  spinning the tires when it happened. The filter just all the sudden shattered. It had to be from a rock, but I could not find one anywhere.... anyway... The camera lens is fine and has a brand new UV filter on.

Lithium ion battery capacity calculations?

I'm working on a project that uses lithium ion batteries as the power source and cannot figure out how to calculate how long it will run for.  I have four 2.6Ah batteries connected in parallel, giving me a total of 10.4Ah of capacity.  They're lithium ion so the nominal voltage is 4.2v and the minimum I want to bring them to is 3v.  My project draws a constant 2.85W of power, regardless of the voltage put into it.  What I want to know is, is there any way to calculate or even just approximate how long these batteries will power my project before they run out (the voltage drops below 3v)?  The batteries are high quality, so the 2.6Ah rating is pretty reliable.  Let me know if there are more specifications needed or something.   Thanks ~Dudes

Help with MR16 bulb wiring on motorcycle!

Hi, I'm from India and I own a bajaj pulsar 220 S that has a 35w 12v headlight and I recently bought an aftermarket enduro headlight to fix on it, but the problem is that the headlight I bought has two MR16 bulbls and each bulb has two wires coming from it both white in color, So I'm totally confused with the wiring thing, Should I solder one white wire with a red one from the motorcycles wiring socket and the other white with the black one of the ground socket? I'd appreciate if you could clear that up for me. P.S - I'm a complete noob when it comes to electricals.

Temperature sensor using LTC2984

Dear Sir, I am using following device to measure temperature accurately,http://www.linear.com/solutions/5500 According to datasheet, the eval board can show a virtual temperature output using built in thermocouple thermister, RTD etc in ADC mode . http://www.linear.com/product/LTC2983, I need to measure real temperature which they apply in Heat bath or temperature calibration set up. I dont have such set up now, could you kindly give me a way out that without those set up I could manage Thermistor ? Kindly go through the page 43-47 in this datasheet, http://cds.linear.com/docs/en/datasheet/2983fb.pdf. Thanks in advance.

Hello! Convolution is almost done being taken apart, and I will be sorting it and counting it this weekend. Meanwhile, I've started on a new project. As of now, I only have a compact gearbox. I won't say what it does or how it works just yet, to make things interesting... :P For those of you who know, please do not spoil anything. Expect a full update around Christmas.

A convention, festival, fair, thing. Please read.

Hello, I've never put anything on the forums before, but I really want to get my idea out there if I can't make it.   I have this idea for something like a convention, fair, etc.  However it will be full of classes, and talking areas, I want it to be cheap and for all ages and backgrounds.   Each booth will be a class, they'll be able to talk/teach about anything: physics, folklore, robotics, animation, painting, dog training, baking, history, biology, ghosts, philosophy, anything!  You can go to these classes and take notes, if you find out you hate the subject or teacher you can leave to go to another class.  In the talking areas you can trade notes, share your own ideas, or just chill out.  I want most of the classes to be free (If a teacher charges money then they need to be the ones to keep people out) but they can charge for materials,(like a CD with references, or a program they use, or a book) or products,(like a cake they just baked, or a drawing they drew) or you can give them donations, and they can give you a business card if they have classes outside of the place.  You may have to organize the booths by loudness, or maturity (with the teachers being able to teach anything, some classes might be bad for kids to see.)  I don't know what this event would be called, it's not quite a convention, or festival, or school, It could happen indoors or out.  This is my main issue; I don't know if I would need permits for it, or what else I should get for it (also I'm broke).  I've been researching for a few weeks now, and I have a few ideas, but incase I fail then maybe someone on here can do it.  Thank you for reading.

Free GFX, Youtube backgrounds, avatars, Youtube intros + More!

Hey guys. I know you havent seen me around here lately and that is mostly due to me losing motivation for knex, which is basically all I did on this site, and decided to give up on it. So anyway, you're probably here because you read the title. Well for a few weeks I will be doing free GFX, YT Background, Avatars and Mor for all you 'Iblers! So anyway, there is a catch :P All you have to do is subscribe to my youtube channel. It only opened a few days ago and I need some subs to at least start off. So all yopu need to do is sub to me on youtube and comment below telling me what you want, and what your youtube username is, so I know its you. PS. If its a YT Background or an YT intro, it wont be amazing (but it will still be good) as alot more work goes into that than lets say, an avatar. My youtube! So anyway thats about it. Hiyadudez, out. The picture below is just something I made for my friend!

I have fixed a bug! (kinda)

I have fixed a bug! I took kiteman's profile and edited it (to look like a ghost for halloween) and I went to post it on his orangeboard but then an "i made it "pop up popped up! and it said "did you make it or are you just adding photos" so I pressed "just adding photos" but i couldn't press anything. then today I used chrome's "inspect element and went through it and found that if you delete "modal-backdrop fade in" you can click stuff again! the gray area should go behind the pop-up instead of in front of it

Where to buy cheap parts in the UK

Hey, I have just stumbled upon this site about 2 hours ago (been wandering around looking at stuff to make) and have discovered a minro problem, the instructables all seem to link to US sites and they don't deliver to the UK and any sites I know of that are based in the UK are very expensive. $4 for a single small watch battery seems a little steep. So, if anyone knows of any cheap places to buy parts like components, tools and similar supplies I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance for your help with this.

iPad app exiting when pressing "Explore All"

I am using an IPad air with latest iOS updates and version 2.64.5 of the Instructables app For the past 6 months or so, whenever I go into the app and press "Explore All" the app simply exits back to my IPads homescreeen. All other app functionality appears ok. I have tried: - shutting and restarting the app - a hard reset - deleting and redownloading the app - as a last ditch effor, doing a factory reset and restoring from backup None of the above has worked and it's really destroyed my ability to use Instructables on the IPad and the desktop version is a little clunky to explore on a tablet. I have submitted feedback a couple of times through the app but that hasn't seemed to have done anything. I really hope asking here might help me resolve this! Thanks Darren

Published instructable blank line spacing does not match the editor

First image shows the missing blank lines in the published instructable. The second image shows what I actually entered in the editor. I'm on Windows 10, using Chrome Version 46.0.2490.80 m The project with this issue is here: https://www.instructables.com/id/Halloween-Fake-Fire/ I think the reason for the bug is because I want to put a spacing between bullets without creating bullet on the blank line I pressed SHIFT-RETURN instead of RETURN.  Somehow it SOMETIMES mess up because as you can see other lines above and below it works fine. Feel free to contact me if I could assist in debugging / testing.  Thanks!

Mitre saw comparison

Hi, I'm looking to either buy the Bosch GCM 12 GDL Professional or the Metabo KGS 315 Plus Crosscut mitre saw. Ive done a bit of homework and both saws appear fairly decent, however the Metabo doesn't appear to have many objective reviews. Can you please recommend one over the other giving reasons for your choice? Thank you very much in advance.

Thank you 4 the Halloween Greeting Card!

Hi all! I want to end my procastination of thanking you for the unexpected Halloween Greeting Card that arrived some days before Halloween. I am having a very busy schedule, so I only remember that I should publish something the day that I return for a while to the site. But, I know that for many people, receiving this greeting card is going to encourage them a lot to collaborate with the site. And even to post an instructable. Since, the card reminds you that you are important, and that there is a community that cares for you. I appreciate the good work that this administration is doing. How could someone achieve this level of contience? Is there an instructable to learn how to get there? Thank you, very much! (And sorry for the delay, but the greeting card arrived on time, even to this country, Argentina, in South America) Alberto love

circuit diagram requst

I am making a life sized 'operation' game for a fund raising event. I am fine with construction and artwork, but need a circuit diagram for the electronics, can anyone help please? Doyou recall the kids operation game where you have to remove bones without causing the buzzer to sound or the red nose to flash? I want a circuit (battery powered) which when tripped by some one touching the probe against the metal edge will make the nose flash for about three seconds and also trip the buzzer to sound for about the same time. Any one know how to do this please?

Help with Arduino Coding

Hello. I have recently been interested in coding Arduino and the USAF lets me to launchpads to setup remote cameras that are sound activated for a rocket launch. I was working on designing an Arduino connected to one of the cheap sound detector modules on eBay. The camera would be triggered by a short circuit on the digital end, with the sound module on the analog end. The camera is activated by a short circuit on the shutter release, so I though I would have + going into the camera when sound is activated with the other cables on ground. I just needed someone to check over my coding, as I am debating whether or not to buy an Arduino. No errors appeared on the computer, so I don't know if it will work fine or not                                                                                                                                                                                                                void setup() {}   //Just there as placeholder: void loop()    //To repeat a function of detecting sound: {const int SoundDetectorPin = A2;  //Sound Detector Module located at Analog pin 2:   const int CameraTriggerOutput = 3;  //Dual Trigger Output is located at Digital pin 3: //Following is If functions: if (analogRead(SoundDetectorPin) == LOW) //When power is read, if it is LOW, the trigger detected sound:      digitalWrite(CameraTriggerOutput, HIGH); //Pin 3 is given positive voltage: else {  //If opposite happens:     digitalWrite(CameraTriggerOutput, LOW); //When power is read, if it is HIGH, the trigger is detected nothing and no command is excecuted:    } }

Micro drone construction help

For a school project a partner and I are attempting to build a self controlling quadcopter. It should be able to use a specific input from a photo transistor and the be able to navigate on its own. The only problems that I can see running into at the moment are finding an atmega compatible rotor controller, and that not including the propellers it is going to be under two inches (5.08 cm). I would appreciate any assistance possible in finding a motor controller of this size, and will keep this post up to date with our project.

Beware Obrary

I was approached this week by a member of staff at Obrary, asking me if I would let them share one of my projects. So far, so good; I gave permission, as long as they agreed to abide by the license I use to publish my projects; BY-NC-SA.  This is the default licence for Instructables, and allows others to share your work as long as they quote the source, share their work under the same licence, and do not profit commercially from the project. Be aware that, if Obrary share your projects, they will share them under the licence of BY-CC-SA, allowing other people to profit from your work. When I discovered this, I agreed, as long as I got to share in the income being generated by my work. Obrary went quiet. If you want to share your projects through Obrary, that's up to you (a quick search shows that at least one Instrucabler has allowed their work to be shared), but you need to remember that their business model involves monetising your work, without any of the income coming to you. They profit, you lose out. You have been warned.

Brainstorming - Teamspeak PTT Bluetooth Device

Gurus of the Tech World, First off, I'm browsed through a lot of great idea and I've got to say, you all are geniuses.  Hopefully, someone can help steer me in the right direction.  I have made a few Windows Phone apps, made a few HTML websites and some networking fundamentals, but I've never really made a device... much less soldered a board. With that said, I want my first project to be a Bluetooth Push-to-Talk (PTT) button for Teamspeak.  I have a Bluetooth headset with a microphone for Teamspeak (VOIP PC Application) so I can hear people speaking while being away from the computer but I do not have a way to communicate back using the Push-to-Talk method. So, what I want to do is make a small Bluetooth device, maybe powered by a 9V, with a single PTT button, and maybe an ON/OFF switch to save power.  My thought is to program it so that it send a keystroke to my computer for the duration that the PTT button is pressed (CTRL would be ideal).  This is something that I want to make, using as much of my brain as possible and the least amount of prefabricated merchandise ("omg, just buy a bluetooth dongle and plug it into a button. ta-da"). I'm sure that this is something you guru's can do blindfolded, but, please, point me in the right direction... and use baby words. Thanks! Stryker2k2 (@stryker2k2)

Possibility of making temporary hair colouring?

Hello there, I've always wanted to dye my hair grey but didn't want to go through the hassle and the possible hair damage of bleaching.  I came across someone selling chalk sticks for temporary hair colouring and was wondering if a cheaper, liquid version could be made to cover all the hair instead of a small part. My initial idea was to use calcium carbonate and grey food colouring with maybe a little bit of talcum powder which will then be mixed with some water so it can be applied easier. These are the ingredients in the colouring I want to use: glycerol, propylene glycol, silicon dioxide, titanium dioxide, vegetable carbon  Is there anything here I should be concerned about? As I'm going for a grey colour I was also looking at using a small amount of activated charcoal or some other skin safe fine black powder. Is this the best way or are there better alternatives? Advice will be appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Browsing frustration

There seems to be at least 3 different formats for browsing Instructables. The frustration I have is, if I want to spend any amount of time browsing a specific searched subject, I don't dare wander off the main page to view an Instuctable. Once I do, I have to start at the beginning of the many pages I have preciously browsed and scroll through dozens of pages to return to my spot. A similar thing happens with the contest pages. It keeps loading more entries on the same page as I get to the bottom of the page. If I view an entry, I have to start at the beginning again. When a contest has over 600 entries like one of the current contests, I find myself not looking at ibles I'd like to see because I don't want to find my place again after the back button returns me to the beginning of the first page. When I browse the featured page, it's much better because I can flip through a page at a time and return to my most recent page when I hit the back button after checking out a great Instructable. If this could be changed, it would extend my browsing time and also give members who have made instructables, every opportunity to get well deserved views. If I'm missing something obvious, please let me know.

Need help removing weight off a motor

Hey guys i'm currently trying to make a very simple robot (2 motors, a battery and a switch) and everything is fine exept for the fact that the motors i'm using are from a PS2 controller, so they are vibrating motors. I can't seem to figure out how to remove the weights (half metal circles) that make tthem vibrate when rotating and that's going to be a problem, since i want my motor to have wheels, not vibrators hah... So if any of you have advice on how to do it i'd be glad to hear it. PS: i joined an image of the motors so you can see the half circles i'm talking about.

Is there a way to make a small motorized greeting card opener ?

A friend wants to be able, at swap meets, to display greeting cards as people pass by, but in a novel way. That is, have a card slowly open, stay open for maybe 15 seconds, then slowly close. And repeat, ad infinitum. Is this doable with cheap parts, or maybe a disco ball motor ? Thanks in advance ! Alan, Quantum Leap Unlimited Onward, Upward

Core Wars: The battle of the programmers.

Okay, brace yourself for a lengthy background story: In the 1960's and 70's, computers were much too expensive for a normal person to have one all to themselves. Before the invention of the Personal Computer (PC), computer systems were mainly employed in large universities, able to be used by students. However, there came a danger with all this: Back then, there was no such thing as protected memory, meaning that someone with minor hacking skills and some knowledge of assembly could easily wreak havoc on other people's data and programs. One such urban legend is that of a major business firm's main computer system, which a mischievous employee had installed his own assembly program called creeper, who's only purpose was to create copies of itself whenever it was run. This soon became a problem, as the creeper virus began eating up precious space in the memory and began corrupting other people's data and programs. After a while, another more brightly-hatted programmer created a program called reaper, which would make numerous copies of itself and destroy any creeper virii it could find and then self-destruct. Soon enough, things were back to normal. After hearing this story, a programmer named A.K. Dewdney got the idea for a game which he called "Core Wars". In this game, people would write computer programs called "warriors" in an assembly language called Redcode. Redcode had instructions not out of the ordinary of any assembly language. These programs were then run simultaneously in a simulated computer called MARS. The aim of the game was to make the opposing program crash by forcing it to execute an illegal command in the computer's shared memory. The surviving program was declared the winner. The absolute simplest warrior was called imp, and was written by Dewdney: MOV 0, 1 The MOV command moves copies a command from one place to another, in a position relative to the MOV command. Because of this, the imp would fill up the entire memory with MOV commands in a relatively short amount of time. Because the memory loops around (So, if the size of the memory is 8000 commands, then command 8001 would be executed as command 0) then it meant imp would always hit it's target eventually if it wasn't hit first. Another program which was written by Dewdney is called Dwarf: bomb      DAT 0,0 Dwarf     ADD #4,-1                 MOV bomb,@bomb                JMP Dwarf End Dwarf This is the first example of a "bomber" program. This program would drop DAT 0,0 (An illegal command) at every fourth slot in the memory in the hopes that the other program would accidentally execute it (cookie if you can figure out how it works). There are far other types of examples, like scanners, which try to scan the commands around it to see if they are illegal. Some programs can even repair themselves mid-battle. So, does anyone else still partake in this ancient game? I recently just got into it, writing my first warrior program a few days ago. Have no idea if it works, but it sounds pretty cool. It's based off of Dewdneys Dwarf but with a few modifications (I named it MindSplitter): bomb      SPL 1                 JMP -1                 DAT 0,0 Split        ADD #5,-1                 MOV bomb,@bomb                JMP Split End Split First off, this plants bombs at every fifth command instead of fourth, which I hope will help it spread out. Second, the bomb it uses is my personal invention that I call the Splitter bomb. In Redcode, the SPL command will jump execution to the specified command, while at the same time continue executing the commands after it. The idea is that the SPL will split to the jump command while the normal execution goes to the jump command, and both of them jump back to the SPL, therefore filling up all of the enemy programs processes. If the enemy program somehow manages to escape the loop, there is a deadly DAT after it. I haven't tried this out yet and I'm not sure how it would do in battle. If someone with a MARS emulator and a warrior of their own would like to put it to the test, I'd would absolutely love to hear how it turns out :).
