Ardupilot V2.5.1 vs. PiZero

Hello I have a PiZero and an ArduPilot and I want to know if I can use each components on separate projects or do I have to use both of them together? As you can probably tell I'm a noob to drone building and I'm trying to create my own intelligent Drone with a RoboCat Frame and Cover. Can Somebody Please explain to me the difference between these two components and some best practices for building this drone?   P.S. I'm trying to build a submarine drone as well  Cheers!

How Composite Video Works

So I was doing some browsing around on Youtube the other day and I starter to wonder, how does composite video work? I read a handful of Webpages, pretty much all of which said the exact same thing more or less. So i was wondering if anyone knew how composite video works to generate an image with color and everything. Please use simple words so that it is easy to grasp (or if you DO use complex terms like "harmonics" please describe what the term means). I know that the signal level determines the color but how do you do things like pixel selection which is necessary to generate images?

Seeking ideas/thoughts for fountain pen traveling inkwell

I own a certain fountain pen that fills in a special way and is best filled by using the traveling inkwell of the maker of that fountain pen-- by using that traveling inkwell, one can fill the pen with a maximum amount of ink-- filling by dipping the nib end into a bottle of ink doesn't let the max amount of ink to enter the pen. But that traveling inkwell produced by the pen maker is VERY EXPENSIVE. A guy apparently in Australia made his own and I'd like to make one. I have ideas but seek from you more thinking and ideas on this homemade traveling inkwell. [You can see the Australian's clever, simple traveling inkwell here: https://imgur.com/a/fkzTs ] I thought I'd use a straight-sided plastic pill bottle for the vessel that holds the ink and is the main part of the traveling inkwell. The bottle I'd probably use is ~ 28mm ID. I don't know what to use and don't know where to find the rubbery "plug" into which the section of the fountain pen is pushed before inverting the plastic bottle to fill the pen. [The section of a fountain pen is the part that one holds when writing with the pen. It's also called the grip and is the area immediately behind the nib and feed.] All I have so far: - 8.5 cm tall x ~ 28 mm ID straight-sided plastic pill bottle which has near-the-top internal threads for the cap that can also be screwed onto external threads. [I'd use the internal threads for the cap.] Requirements which have come to mind-- tell me if these are sound or should be re-considered: - Whatever rubbery one-hole plug is used, it has to yield a bit to the fountain pen section (which is 11 mm OD) when the section is pushed into the one-hole plug-- the plug hole I suppose should be ~ 9.5 mm to 10 mm. The rubbery material around the hole has to grip the section so ink leakage doesn't happen during filling. - The one-hole plug should not move downward into the ink when the fountain pen section is pushed into the one-hole plug. Maybe the plug would have to be glued in place so it doesn't move? What glue or bonding substance if that's best? - The one-hole plug would be set/glued/bonded immediately below the near-the-top internal threads of the pill bottle. - I suppose the height of the one-hole plug would be ~ 1 cm to 2 cm. - I suppose a straight-side plug vs. a tapered one would be the ideal (but a straight-sided one would, I suppose, have to be glued/bonded in place so it doesn't slip or move). - Ink leakage shouldn't occur when the section is pushed into the one-hole plug and the bottle then inverted for filling. If leakage occurs, then ink runs down my hand and arm during filling. - What kind of not-hard-but-yielding-a-bit "plug" or maybe a stopper is best and where do I find just one? [Fountain pen inks are mainly water with dyes and maybe some additives in them.] Thanks for your attention to this posting!

how to - detect right object in right position?

Hello DIYers, I have a small square object (6cm x 6cm) that I must put in a mold, but how it's square, is possible put it in any position, but only 1 is the right one. The reference is a 5mm label in the top. I want detect if the object in the mold has the right position. Actually I have 5 different objects, the difference between them is the number in the label. My idea is use a Raspberry Pi + Pi Camera + openCV. There will be a collection of images for reference and the camera will be recording jpgs (maybe 1fps) and comparing with the images in the collection. There will be a red led lighting, but if the RPi detect the right object in the right position will light a green led. Maybe somebody knows a similar project? is possible with this hardware/software? some recommendation? For better idea, I'm attaching a mock-up

How do you change 3.7 V to 12V?

I have 2 cellphone battery brick chargers. I took one apart and found it to have 6, 18650 LiPo batteries connected in parallel to a circuit board to charge it. I have a project that requires 12 V and I would like to use these in some fashion. I was thinking put the two parallel battery bricks in series to get 7.4 V and step up with a DC to DC converter. Which one would be appropriate?  To charge the LiPo's I was thinking of parallel connecting the two circuit boards from the 2 cellphone battery chargers to a single wire connecting to a 5V cellphone wall usb charger. The usb charger supplies 5V at max 2.4A. Any help would be appreciated!

Heating options for hot bueing steel?

After moving house I am still living in a big mess of boxes that need to be unpacked, kitchen stuff be sorted and and so on... But with a big garage and proper workspace at hand it is also time to consider my options on how to create my tinker space. I would like set up a small forge later on if the landlord gives permission and that means bot blueing steel again. Which brings me to the problem of heating the nitrates :( My last setup was not only on a different continent but also totally oversized and powered by three big gas burners. This time I would like to go a bit smaller so I can use it inside the workshop. Was thinking of a max of around 8kg of nitrates that need to be heated in a safe way to melting point. Problem with that stuff is that it is not only highly corrosive but also requires quite some time and energy to melt. Using gas on such a small scale seems far to dangerous uless I include baffle plates and add several safe guards, so I would like to avoid the open flame approach here. Only reasonabe alternative that comes to my mind is electric heating. Did some small test last night outside :( Used a 2000W electric hotplate and an old stainless steel pot with about 1kg of nitrate in it. After 40 minutes there was still no real melting happening despited the entire thing padded and covered in glass wool. 20 minutes later I turned it all off and once cooled I found that only about 1cm of solid nitrate was at the bottom. If I would use a suitable container of let's say 20x10x10 cm as a small melting vessel: Could it be sufficient to use a 2000W nichrome heating element (with temp controller of course) in an insulated, forge like setup to melt the nitrate ina reasonable amount of time and be able to keep it that way once the steel is dropped in? Problem is the entire garage is already setup with power outlets and they all go to a single 10 amp breaker. I could max it out with 2400W but for obvious reasons would prefer to have some juice left for lights and other uses. If anyone here already made such a thing it would be great to hear how you solved the heating problem without waiting half a day for the stuff to melt.

Difference Between Type L vs Type ACR Copper Coil

Hello everyone,    I was hoping someone can share advice, tips etc. I plan on getting 55gal steel drum & turning into wood burning pool heater. My question is about which type copper coil would work best, and still be safe to use. My son has Down syndrome and is very sensitive to cold water. We just spent around $1500 to get pool ready with a installed ramp for his wheelchair. We called few different pool people about a reg heater they want from $2500 to $3700. Mostly cause it would not be easy install lot of things in way, etc etc. oh and then add monthly bill. I don't mind the pool temp but my son does and he truly doesn't ask for anything. And if I could safely get pool warm enough for him then I want to at least try. so we really don't have the extra cash to go "normal" pool heater way but I've watched allot of vids on YouTube where they took a steel 55 gal drum, turned on its side and put the copper coil mounted inside at the top. These people would be able to increase temp by allot. Its labor involved but I'm home anyhow taking care of my son. I'm looking at using about 100ft. I can get 1/2 100ft of Type L $163.00 and Type ACR for $119.00. Anyhow Type ACR is much much cheaper then Type L.  Is there a real big difference? Big enough to spend the extra cash and use Type L, instead. Or Is ACR still safe to use with the pool? I'm not sure which Type L or ACR but I've read it say it's cleaned inside the pipe. Does this matter cleaned vs not cleaned inside pipe for what I would be using for? here link of place I'm getting https://m.grainger.com/mobile/product/MUELLER-INDUSTRIES-100-ft-Soft-Coil-Copper-Tubing-4WTC2?breadcrumbCatId=7726&fc;=MWP2IDP2PCP Please any info would be greatly appreciated. Truly thanks so much for your time. Thank Lisa

Building a custom shaped Compressed air tank

Hello, am looking into the possibility of building my own paintball markers, and wanted to do a custom way of using the air system, compared to most markers. I was thinking either a square shape, but after finding an article that was talking about water and gases tanks and why they are build cylindrical, i realized that maybe that might not be as easy or practical. another possible idea would be a flask shaped tank, but for the design am looking at it would need special commendations, none the less I wish to see if something like that could be possible.

Import from doc, markdown support, and tables

First of all, I want to say that overall, writing my Instructable was a pleasant experience. While I do have some suggestions, I enjoyed the process and felt that the site worked pretty well to allow me to build a good set of instructions. Kudos! I'm sure it's probably been suggested before or I could be missing something with the editor, but I would like to see a way to import from a word doc. I wrote up a lot of the details in a word document before writing my Instructable, and if I were able to import that directly it would have saved a lot of time. I was able to copy and paste, but it removed much of the formatting and I had to reformat sections. It would also be really awesome to be able to copy and paste markdown formatted text into the step instructions. Markdown is used by a lot of sites / software including github, thingiverse, confluence, and jira to name a few I know of off the top of my head. Finally, I really wanted tables in some of the steps to make lists of tools and parts cleaner / easier to read. If tables are supported, I wasn't sure how to create them.

blutooth telephone

Hi people who are smarter than me! I have been searching the great Google for the past while and I cannot find something that does this. I love the portability of cellphones and i love the look an feel of landlines (you cannot beat the look of a phone on a a desk. What I want is a device that connects to my cellular telephone wirelessly and that a landline can plug into. This means that it must supply about 40 - 60 VDC to power an old phone that DOES NOT HAVE EXTERNAL POWER SUPPLY so it could operate a touch tone phone from the 80's and 90's. When I get a call on my phone I want it to ring the phone. When I pick up the handset I want it to answer the call and allow me to talk to the person. When I place a call I want to be able to pick up the handset and then dial a 10 digit number and then it place the call through my cell phone. During the call I want to be able to press a number on the landline and for it to press that number on my phones keypad. when i put the handset down i want it to hang up. Is this even possible? can it be done? let me know! Thanks! scott

Can someone build a handheld label applicator (specifically for barcodes) and post a "How To" instructable.

There are only a few companies that make handheld label applicators and they seem to be of similar design and quite expensive. I'd like to know if there is a creative individual out there capable of making a simple DIY version that the "average" person could build on their own. This applicator would be used for applying labels, such as barcodes, to products. Labels typically come in large rolls that vary in width from 1 -  4" in width.  Thank You

The first thing I done wrong was solder the gpio headers on backwards. Since I'm not too professional with a soldering iron I ended up making the drives of no use and ordered more. Before I done that, I got my pi camera working! Still need to program the pan/tilt servos. I have battery power, wiring, almost everything as far as hardware. How can I make a balcony railing safe for my cats to sit on?

We have a large 2nd story balcony at our new house that our cats like to hang out on. The railing is about 7" wide and 2" thick, so the cats are able to get on top of it and walk around, which makes us very nervous. I'm trying to construct something that will make it safer for them to walk around up there. The thought isn't to make it escape proof, just to prevent them from accidentally falling off if they fall asleep or there's a strong gust of wind or something. My thought is to install plexiglass along the outer edge of the railing, about 1' in height. Should I screw the plexiglass directly into the wood of the railing, or should I use some kind of plate to attach it? The house is a rental, so I would like to minimize any permanent damage/changes. A few screw holes should not be a big deal. Open to any and all suggestions! Thanks!
