UPDATED What Airguns Do You Own/Recommend?

I ended up getting a Crosman Vantage. It was on sale for $70. I think the MSRP is $145. Yeah, I know, it's just a budget springer. But that was what I was looking for. Not something to last me the rest of my life. It has a good reputation for decent accuracy if you use the artillery hold. With 7.9 grain pellets it should be getting about 900 +/- FPS. It came in the mail the other day. Pyramid air has fast shipping. The wood is acceptable, and the barrel lock up is very solid and their is practically no barrel droop. I haven't shot it yet, but the barrel is very easy to cock for a sub magnum springer. Of course I only cocked it 80% of the way and I don't want to dry fire it. I have some Crosman Premier Hollow Points to try in it, as well as some cheap pointed pellets and destroyers I'll use to break it in. I think it will be fine for tin can killing. Not sure it's the best hunting implement, since the included scope is meh.

Knex KAR98K shell ejecting clip fed rifle

Here is my Knex KAR98K Bolt action rifle. It was a very nice weapon and it could eject shells or it could just be fed through normally in the top. It could hold five shells at the top and it could also hold ten normal blue rods without the shells. It could shoot around 30FT. (If I remember correctly.) It was pretty cool. Im lucky I found these Images on my computer or else this gun would be history. It had a very nice handle to...

Swivel Castor Wheels from Other Types of Wheels?

Is it possible to make swivel castor wheels from skateboard, rollerblade, rollerskate, or other type wheels? I know there are swivel plates by themselves, but would this be used? If so, how, if at all, would the above types of wheels be attached? Or just use some type of swivel bearings? Wood? Something thru the middle of the wheels? Fixed castor wheels attached to swivel plate? Any ideas, other poss optons, to be able to make? Thanks

Induction Heating

High frequency induction heating is basically a very efficient way to heat ferrous metals. Induction heating uses an powerful magnetic field to induce currents within the surface of the metal being heated. This means that the coil will not get hot unless the material being heated transfers heat to it. Induction heating is very efficient because no heat is wasted, no heat is wasted because the coil does not produce heat, the heat comes from the workpiece being heated only.

Furniture finish made from LP's (vinyl, not wax)

I remember an old episode of The Furniture Guys where the hosts melted old wax (gramaphone) phonograph records and used it as a really nice Asian-style furniture finish (high gloss black, piano worthy).  I wish the same could be done with more modern vinyl records, of which I have a lot. Any ideas of how this might be done? P.S. No, I won't destroy any records that should be saved for future generations. Will my progeny really profit from The Bangles or Heart?

Power Banks vs. ac wall outlets

I've observed in many power banks, that they charge up my phone a LOT quicker than a conventional ac adapter plugged into a wall socket. Why is this so? Many of my friends share the same observation. I'm building a simple power bank myself, and I want to make sure I can enjoy this feature when I use it too. I plan to use this instructable as a guideline with some modifications: https://www.instructables.com/id/Rechargeable-homemade-Power-Bank-super-Easy/ I'll be using four 3.7V batteries in parallel and stepping it up with a step up converter, so that the mAh value gets added up (forgive me if I'm wrong, but I believe mAh adds up when batteries are in parallel). Will this arrangement give me faster charging times like the power banks available in the market? Is it a safe circuit? Please suggest as I am eager to build this :) Thanks in advance :)

Need your input on the acceptability of posting a medical device ible

I am a new member but an old reader.  If websites were worlds Instructables would be my home planet. I have plans for ibles that center around stuff I make for my small farm and old house; my kid calls it The Things My Mother Finds In Other's People's Trash.  No problem there.  My editor (I do a little no-big-deal writing) told me I should make an ible about ostomy care as it's something I deal with daily since I underwent a total colectomy and nephrectomy from cancer.  By the way, if anybody happens to post an ible for a replacement kidney...  I wanted to post some ibles about different ways to cut the wafers, the part the pouch attaches to, to accomodate different body types, how to make the process so simple you can take care of it in a few seconds with a bit of privacy, how to easily and thoroughly empty the pouch, which for ileostomy patients is a 12 or more times a day;  modify underwear instead of buying special $55 a pair "ostomy wear" and most important, how to CLEAN AND REUSE those pouches that come twenty to a box (that's a MONTHS supply), cost over $100 after insurance, and are supposed to be worn DIRTY and then thrown away in the vast sea of plastic, a biohazard and a weight on the earth. I realized that although my ideas are kind of no-brainer simple, the subject might attract really brilliant people who could offer better ideas and designs.  Before I went forward with my postings though I wanted to check with you all and ensure that the subject matter would not be so gross or offensive to the community that it caused a problem.  I'm so conflicted about it myself except when I get mad about it that I didn't feel I could trust my judgement. I really appreciate you taking the time to read my long ramble here and any advice you would like to render. Thank you so much!

DIY Waterprrof Iphone case.

Hello, I have an iPhone 5s and want to make a durable waterproof case for that, specifically for white water rafting. So I have an outline plan and want your inputs if I am doing something wrong or if you have a better suggestion. 1) Get a plastic box in which iphone cases come (some thing like this but which is strong http://i01.i.aliimg.com/photo/v3/1574895035_1/iphone_5s_case_hard_plastic_box.jpg) 2) Get a rubber seal and fit it exactly for the size.     http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/AlwAAOxyOalTYCK2/$_35.JPG 3) Make a wrist strap with some elastic and make a holder for iphone with it.       This holder is needed to keep the phone in place on hand and when I want to take the pic I can easily get it off, shoot and put it back. 4) Fish wire.      This will be used to connect the actual phone case and wrist strap so if I drop the phone it still remains with me or use a retractable cable to make it more professional. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51ZbiJQuOsL._SX466_.jpg So far this is my idea, what do you guys think about it ?

Velleman Sound to Light module LEDs always on.

I  have made the velleman sound to light project: http://www.vellemanusa.com/downloads/0/minikits/manuals/manual_mk103_rev1.pdf the LEDs are supposed to turn off when there is no sound and go bright when there are loud sounds. Mine are bright all the time. I first tried the kit using my own blue LEDs instead of the red ones supplied, these worked for a time then they just stated to give a VERY small amount of light. I switched to the red ones and now they are on high all the time. I also accidentaly connected R3 with C4 (see PDF). C1 and R2 are also connected by solder, im not sure if it should be like that, I also kinda damaged the C1 connection hole as I partially burnt it with my soldering iron D:.  Could any of these issues be the reason why my kit inst working? I have attached pictures of my board Many thanks, Rushmoore :)

[Arduino] Problem connection Bluetooth

Hi all, A while ago I got a HC06 bluetooth module. In the beginning everything worked OK, but now some problems have appeared. Pairing in Android works fine, as well as with my laptop. The problem arises when connecting my phone (Google Android 4.2 with Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR) to the device. BlueTooth Serial Controller 16 seems the only working app, but I would like to use my own application, based on the code described here https://www.instructables.com/id/Android-Bluetooth-Control-LED-Part-2/step8/Download/ Also other apps like BlueSerial Beta and Bluetooth ssp pro do not work. Does anyone have a clue how to solve this problem? Many thanks in advance. Regards, Zytro

Small, Secret script or utility to force or track a "delivered"or "read" response for an email recipient.

Good day! I am SO fed up for bad service and people that clam they "have not received your email enquiry, instruction etc" i am looking for some pointers to write a script, utility using some common event handler that will run automatically when a remote user (recipient) receives, scroll past or preferably mark a message as unread and deliberately saying "no" to a request for a delivery or read receipt message to be send back to me (sender address). It is just dishonest and I hate it with all my being. I have a little basic programming  knowledge in C++ and can help myself in most things, maybe even VB. I just need some pointers how to go about, what and how to use a remote event on the target computer or even better track the mail from server to server and maybe give the most recent "status" to show as prove if someone pulls scumbag on me again. Please, please, please... Deon  :)

(Arduino) automated macro-photography rail

Hi everyone, I would like to build an Arduino automated macro-photography rail (let's call it AAMR). I'm a decent software engineer and I want to learn electronics, so I'm looking for someone telling me I'm going in the right direction... The idea sounds simple, I want to : 1/ place the subject on the AAMR 2/ input the # of pictures needed to perform a "focus stacking" (https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Focus_stacking) 3/ push the start button and make the AAMR loop n times through the following steps : - trigger the camera to take a picture of the subject - move the subject 1 millimetre toward the camera After a couple weeks reading and day-dreaming, here are my thoughts. I need : - to read more :) - a steeper motor and its driver (I own bipolar steppers and L298 / L293 IC) - to trigger the camera (Canon EOS 70d : remote cable is quite easy to make) - a potentiometer and 2* 7segment displays (input and display the # of pictures) - a start button - a reset button to make the rail come back at position Zero - two "end of course" buttons (not sure about the English terminology), just in case the motor wants to jump over the board - power (5v for the arduino and the logic, 12v for the motors) I. Arduino ---------- First things first, I plan to use an Arduino Uno during prototyping and replace it by a home made board in the final product. Uno has 14 Digital I/O Pins and 6 Analog Input Pins : - stepper => 6 Digital pins (3 ?? if using http://www.bristolwatch.com/L298N/L298N_arduino.htm) - 7segment led => 3 Digital pins if using shift registers (https://www.instructables.com/id/Different-methods-of-driving-7-Segment-LED-display/step5/null/) - start button => 1 Digital pin - reset button => 1 Digital pin - "end of course" buttons => 2 Digital pins - camera trigger => 1 Digital pin (to drive an opto isolator / solid state relay) - potentiometer => 1 Analog pin 14 Digital pins ! Uno should do the job, am I right ? (I know I could use Analog pins as Digital ones, but it seems I don't need it...) II. PSU ------- Next interrogation is about power supply : I don't want a battery powered device and my options are scarce : - ATX PSU supplies both 5 and 12v, but Arduino seems to like >5v, so ATX doesn't seem a good choice - home made PSU from an existing wall wart -> voltage divider to get ~7v and ~14v -> 7805/7812 voltage regulator (may need heatsinks and/or little fan) If I do the math : - Arduino : 50ma - Stepper motor : 700mA max - L298 : 70mA (quiescent current) - 2* 7Segment LED (multiplexed) : 2 * 80mA (estimated) - Shift registers IC (SN74HC595N) : 1ma (optional : Hex inverter 74LS04 : ?? mA) Total : around 980mA... Am I doing right ? I have tons of questions left (Hex inverter, filter capacitors, motor noise reduction, solid state relays...), but it's a good start :) Sorry for the long post, and thanks in advance for your answers ! D

Ball counter or weight sensor with relay to sound alarm or trigger 9v confetti cannon

Anyone interested in a bit of work...I could also run it as a competition. Apologies in advance if what I am doing in not allowed on instructables, but I couldn't find a place to offer this work. Peoplehour does not specialise in tech gadgets! I am a one man band training business in the UK. I am trying to find someone to make this gadget to work with my Gravity Ball Game. Gravity Ball is a two hour team building activity. Gravity Ball requires teams to design and build a construction capable of transporting a ball from one zone to another; the ball must roll freely along the construction using gravity only. There will be a shared zone that will require team collaboration, cooperation and coordination. Everyone needs to contribute to the overall team objective whilst ensuring their own structure functions to a specific brief and works correctly. All teams will release their designated ball (tennis ball, golf ball, cricket ball, squash ball. Etc.) at the same time. Each team ball will roll freely along the team structure, into the shared area and the fall into a collection container. When all the balls are in the container (and a specific weight achieved) then the Weight sensitive relay switch will detonate a electronic confetti cannon. Alternatively, an infra red or sensor can count the number of balls that pass at a particular point and when the designated number is reached, the confetti cannon will detonate The detonation will give a wow factor to the team activity. Considerations: I need a gadget, Arduino, raspberry pi or beaglebone that can measure or count the number of ball and then detonate a confetti cannon or sound an alarm • Programmable weight or ball counter setting • Maximum weight 300g-400g or Maximum number of passing balls is 10 • Work with standard electronic confetti cannon from Confetti Masters, alarm or Siren (http://www.confettimaster.com/streamer.electric.confetti.cannons.html) or Showtec electric cannons (http://www.sblite.co.uk/598-80cm-multicolour-electric-confetti-cannon.html) Message me if you are interested! Kind regards Canute

Fishing Lures

After seeing this, it has me wonder if anyone has anyone else experimented with making fishing lures? Particularly, has anyone tried making any unusual fishing lures? With any success? I recall, when being dragged on fishing trips as a kid, that outdoor stores would often have some crazy gimmick lures that never seemed like they would work, but claimed to be the greatest thing that ever happened to fishing since the beer hat. I think it would be a fun challenge to not only make an incredibly bizarre fishing lure, but to get it to work.

Dried bean experiment need help or ideas

Greetings,  My experiment, I heard that taco bell makes their re-fried beans out of a bag of dry mix. Im am not sure how true this is but wanted to see if I can make my own mix. My first experiment is to see what happens if one grinds up dried beans and try to cook them. The problem is I don't know of anything that can grind up a dried bean. I did find some grain grinders but I don't know if they are up for the task and the cheaper ones seem to break easily based on the reviews.   I suppose I could bash them between a couple of rocks, but experience has taught me that the part I want to keep will most likely go flying.  Any ideas will be appreciated

What was the first food-thing you ever made?

Memory is truly the most precious and valuable gift we possess.  Love, contentment, spirituality are all up there in the top 10, but without the memory of these things, they cannot be appreciated. As I was taking an enjoyable stroll down memory lane this morning, thoughts of my childhood BFF came to mind... which lead me to this topic.  I thought would be a great brain exercise and a fun discussion for us foodies. ;-)  So what's the first thing you ever made?  (Mud pies don't count. ;-) My first almost-solo (no bossy mom!) was a Cheese Souffle. I remember my bff had a duck... and the duck laid eggs... lots of them!  We found a mouth-watering Cheese souffle in some illustrated cookbook and the plan was hatched. ;-)   Like good little 11 yo girls, we waited for her mom to go to work before commandeering the kitchen.  Our creation wasn't nearly as beautiful as this one.  I recall being quite disappointed as I watched the whole thing droop miserably when it came out of the oven. lol... souffle FAIL, if there ever was one... but ya gotta start somewhere! ;-D So what was your first cooking project?

What do you normally eat for breakfast?

I'm sorry, I just can't stop talking about food. :PI was reading the latest issue of Saveur magazine last night and this morning, and it has to be one of the most interesting things I've ever had the pleasure of reading. It's all about breakfast, which is quite frankly the most important and wonderful meal of the day. The magazine had a number of different articles about what people eat for breakfast all over the world, in addition to recipes for all these magical foods I'd never heard of. :DI typically don't have much time these days between work and school, so my breakfast is usually whole wheat toast with butter and raspberry, orange or apricot preserves, maybe some sunflower butter. I almost always have tea in the morning - I think my favorite is coconut chai at the moment. If I'm really short for time I'll have my standard soy milk and mega fiber hippie cereal. :)If I do have time though, I'll make biscuits and gravy or sometimes Jace will make pancakes. I've only made french toast once with friends, but I'd like to get that going more often. I also really like to heat up different soy sausages and have those with toast and hot cereal. I also like having hot multigrain cereal with apples cut up in it, with cinnamon and honey. That will never get old.So what do you eat for breakfast? I want to know all about it!

The Red Book of Westmarch Insider

Ever since I was a young lad (XD) I have wanted to learn whatever I could. How to clean a firearm, how to change the oil in a car, how to sight in a scope, how to string and fire a bow, the list goes on. An item included in that list is how to make a website. So, as many of you may know, I made a website (using Weebly), called The Red Book of Westmarch Insider. I decided to make this forum topic to let you guys know about some of the new stuff on the site. I have a couple of new polls, one Up to Date post, and a rather large Video Series page. I also have the ability to make a forums page, but I chose not to do that, as I was not sure as to: 1) how it would work, 2) whether or not you could post pictures, and 3) if anyone would be interested. I also made this forum topic so that I could let you guys know when I have something new on my site. You don't need to post any comments or anything, this forum topic is just to give you quick links to new posts and stuff on my site. -The Red Book of Westmarch

And that this is a new bug.  As I said in my post, I set the checkboxes to "Open in New Tab".  Then I publish and the links open in the same tab.  Then I go in (several times) recheck the checkboxes, go back and verify that they are checked and republish.  They still open in the same tab and when I go back into edit mode, they are unchecked.  Is this a bug?  Or am I doing something wrong?  If I am, I would argue that the instructions for using this checkbox have a bug. Ergo, there is a bug. Don't you hate philosopher/engineers? Grin, that's me!

wiring of L.E.D. bulbs for constant "on" and reduced heat ?

Self-confessed "tinkerer" with little/no electronics knowledge OR understanding....In need of guidance/expertise ? I have a project; requires constant 5V (from USB) to power/light several L.E.D.'s (either cool white or bright white) in a straight line(s) to illuminate an area approx. 1/2" (W)x 6.0"(L) x 1" (H)... Not knowing the power requirements of various L.E.D.'s ....some LED's require 12V and additional equipment. And the expected period of use being 6-8 hrs (max.) - I'm afraid of problems regarding heat dissipation and poor LED longevity ? With these constraints, I'm unsure if this is feasible or not ? Any help or suggestions ?  Have "tinkered with a string of LED's powered by (3) AA batteries = 4.5 volts x 30 LED bulbs. Didn't seem to get hot using the batteries. After cutting these bulbs from string and "bundling " positive (+) and negative (-) ends and connecting to 5V from USB ...got very warm-hot ? Reading various online posts that seem to agree that the output from batteries is NOT constant...is this the problem OR maybe not using "resistors" and not knowing what type or how many would be needed ?

schmitt trigger for solar panel

Hi, I'm building a solar panel project that may use the charge battery and so on. As solar output is not consistent, I have a capacitor array to store charge before deliver it to the end devices. However if the solar output power is lower than the end devices(example charging phone) power load, it will probably on and off since the solar output is not enough. I would like to use by capacitor array to reduce the on and off rate by design a Schmitt trigger or perhaps it a flip flop circuit. For example if my Solar panel max voltage is 12v and my  device using 5v thru a voltage regulator that need min of 6v. So I would like to design a circuit to do this 1) When capacitor array discharge to 6v, terminate the circuit to regulator. 2) Wait for the solar panel to charge the capacitor up to 12V 3) Upon reach 12 V, allow the current to pass thru regulator again. Repeat step 1 I tried so search Schmitt trigger circuit but I cannot find the suitable one as most Schmitt trigger  is with a Vref and signal input. Since my voltage input(capacitor charging and solar panel) is variable, I do not have Vref. I still believe it can be achieved, perhaps my mind stuck at one concept only
