How do I trap cats?

I want to get a job as a self-employed cat and dog trapper. Because basically I love animals and want to be around them. I can't by the way get my own cats and dogs because I live in a group home. But I would love to help others get a kitty or pup into their lives?

Need help with bonnet vent for my car Answered

Hi everyone. I have a car after modifications, which makes it awfully hot under the hood. I have to get rid of this temperature. I found videos on youTube where people made active vents. I think about something like that all the time. I would like to open and close them with a button. It could be based on an electric motor or vacuum. Could anyone make any technical or illustrative drawings, anything I could rely on during construction. Vent would be as tight as possible so that water does not get in. The whole would be based on the idea from this video https://youtu.be/ODFf65kvVF8

Feature Request: @user tag

For me instructables is great because of it's outstanding community. Still, I believe this could be an even better place if we worked closer together.  Sure, this can't be forced, but it can be made easier: It would help greatly if a "@user" tag was introduced. It should do two things: Notify the user mentioned, both with an on-page notification (like a PM) as well as through email Produce a clickable link to the user's page The usage cases are plenty. It could be used if... an authors project is based on @user ideas/ project @user has improve upon one's work @user has similar project worth checking out a comment/ forum post is adressed to @user, even though it is not a direct response one knows @user is interested in a instructable/ forum post, but may have missed it Unlike PMs it's a quick and public method to reach out for people. I am very aware that even though this is a "small" idea it may take much effort to develop and integrate throughout the site. Yet I do believe it would be absolutely worth it, as it... motivates authors (it is the greatest feeling to know somebody values the project you've poured all of your heart into) keeps conversations going (I've seen many comments not being responded to just because they haven't used the reply button) brings people with similar ideas and interests together (isn't this what instructables is all about?) It could happen that this will be abused by some people, so "blocking" certain users (to not receive notifications) should be a mandatory function. What do you think about this?

Feeding baby praying mantis (newly hatched)

FYI to anyone who has or wants to know what you can feed praying mantis babies right after they hatch. The egg sack i have been "protecting" (i thought) til spring has just hatched a day ago and its only december, my plan was to let them go after they hatched in the spring, but since i didnt keep the sack cold, it hatched now. After i freaked out for abit seeing i have about 50 or more TINY mantis all over the container i put the sack in, i called and called ALL over but no one would take them, and i cant let them just die. Everything i read about them says they only eat LIVE bugs..and they have to be small...really really small..like pinhead crickets or fruit flies...well...YUCK..i dont want that in the house...but if thats what they need then so be it..UNTIL...i called a bait store and the guy (i wanted to KISS him for this info) told me to put RAW MEAT on a string so it sticks in small peices and hang it in the container..IT WORKS!! they went right for it!! SOOOO.........if you dont want or cant get tiny live food for them...FEED THEM RAW HAMBURER MEAT on a string!! this picture is the mom, isnt she beautiful! haha..i mean it!

How can I make a hollow, see-through sphere? Answered

This is for an adaptation of a lamp. What I want is to cover the bulb with a large (little smaller than a basketball) sphere, so there will be a hole in one end. Light obviously needs to be able to shine through. My first thought was a resin of some sort, and a quick search led me to epoxy resin. Is this see-through? Can colour be added? Any other ideas? Some early thoughts: - In an inflated balloon, inject liquid. Rotate, thereby distributing fairly evenly, until liquid hardens. Cons: How long do I have to rotate this balloon? What if it pops!? (Could use a hard container...) - Double boiler: Use two similar bowls, small inside larger, fill in between. Cons: How to get it even? Smaller bowl would float (weigh it down...) Not even close to a sphere With your suggestions I'll do a few trials, possibly put out an instructable if something works. All suggestions are welcome (even if they deviate a little). Thanks!

Online Game Recemendations

I have 2 games (and a half), first: runescape.com this is an adventer MMORPG. You battle different types and levels of monsters and characters. You can strive to be the richest or to be the strongest. Second: hflhotel.4t.com this is a habbohotel.com fan site with its own habbo like interface. You log in and you automaticly get 800,000 free coins. In habbohotel.com you have to buy you're coins for 10 cents a coin. That can add up! 50 coins is $10, so I recomend what they call, a retro habbo. (I am sorry... this website had been moved to a different server or deleted. I am sad too) In a half: habbohotel.com I dont recomend this game unless you have 500 dollars laying in a dust gathering pile in you're tool shed or you will have the least of fun!

Must Be Nice Comments.

I've been trying to upload comments to a micro controller forum and it continuously tells me my post isn't nice enough or isn't formated correctly. This is getting vary annoying. This stupid policy of letting a poorly thought out filter program block comments that don't fit a "nice" format needs to go. This is the post I'm trying to make.I'm getting the following errors with the AtMega8. It must be a problem with the giveio driver which I have installed but it's still not working. All the forums say to just install it but that's not fixing the problem. I'd greatly appreciate any help."avrdude: can't open device "giveio"avrdude: failed to open parallel port "lpt1"make.exe: *** [program] Error 1> Process Exit Code: 2> Time Taken: 00:00""

New Site Search Doesn't Work on Chrome on Mac

I'm running Chrome 27.0.1453.47 beta on a MacBook Pro running OS 10.8.3 and I can type in the new search box on the main homepage but it doesn't search when I hit return or when I click on the magnifying glass. It worked in Firefox though.  I've disabled adblock to see if that was the cause of the issue and that didn't help either.  Anyone else have this issue?  I've had a lot of issues with Chrome on the Mac with this site, including when editing instructables.  I couldn't even submit this bug report on Chrome because the "Preview Topic" button would not do anything when clicked.

Making your own hand sanitizer if there is none left in the shops....

For some unknown reason around here all shops are out of hand sanitizer. My sister needed some as three kids just make it a requirement thanks to Corona.Had to be cheap and plentyful she said....Methylated spirit is still freely available in bulk at the hardware store, so I grabbed some.Had no Calcium Acetate at hand so I ordered 200g online, it E263 if I recall correctly, a food additive. To give it a nice smell I added some natural pappermint oil to the list. The making is dirt simple....For every 100ml of alcohol add about 20ml of filtered water - you don't want it full strenght.Give a few drops of your favourite scent to it.Then slowly add some Calcium Acetate and keep stirring.Once the mix reaches the desired consistency of a more or less runny gel you are set to go.How easy is that for a change?Oh, in a hurry and no Calcium Acetate available anywhere? No problem!Use egg shells and vinegar.About 70g in egg shells should do for a good amount of sanitizer.Use a large (high) pot and add about 400ml of vinegar to it.If you can get the cleaning strength then better.Add the crushed egg shells and keep stirring. It will foam up, so add them slowly! You need to keep stirring as the shells tend to float up with the produced CO2.If no shells dissolve anymore add some more vinegar. At the end you want to have some leftover shells but no more bubbling to indicate all the acetic acid from the vinegar was used up the reaction.Filter through a coffe filter, or several layers of it to get a clean solution.Bring it to a boil to get rid of the water.Once you get a paste in your pot turn the heat off and remove the stuff from your pot to air dry.If in a hurry, then spread it out on some baking paper and place at about 120°C in your oven to fully dry.Crush up in a bag once cool and you have the Calcium Acetate you need ;)

How to add a loud speaker to (the most basic) landline phone?

Hello! How would you connect a loudspeaker to a basic landline phone (so several people can hear the conversation)? (Basic phones don't have loudspeakers, only the one handling the headset can hear). The loudspeaker doesn't have to be super loud, it could be like the ones powered by USB on computers, or much smaller, as far as we could hear the conversation. It's not that easy since theses phone are merely powered by the little current inside the landline phone line. So I guess I need another power source, like a USB charger, and maybe to amplify the sound signal, to use the loudspeaker. I started to learn electronics for a few months, but I have no idea how to handle this problem. Any advice would be great! Thanks for your help!

How do I make an attractive toilet paper shield to keep my 7 cats from shredding my TP?

Please don't tell me to "turn the roll around" or to lock the cats out of the bathroom. These are not feasible. The kitties shread the roll no matter position it is in, and we've got one litter box that MUST be in the bathroom. I have 7 cats, and they need a box in almost every room in the house. I've been keeping the current roll in the cabinet, but I'm getting pretty sick of having to hide the roll every time I go to the bathroom. There has to be a better way. I want ideas on how to make a simple, attractive, and durable cover for the toilet paper roll. I'm almost ready to go out and buy a commercial cover, but I think they are hideous -- great gargantuan hunks of plastic. Much thanks for ideas... Help! My low voltage, outdoor lighting wont light up - transformer error codes?

I bought a Portfolio 300watt transformer for low voltage outdoor lighting and hooked up a 100' 12 gauge cable (outdoor rated lighting cable) to it. Then I hooked up 4 low voltage lights (12volt 20 watts each). I plugged the transformer in to a gfi outlet that I ran out from the house. And turned it on. The little display flashes "E" and then "1" . The instructions say that the E means that there is a fire hazard so check the circut. So I unhooked every light except one. Same error. I hooked on a different light and unhooked the first one. Same error. Instructions say the cable needs to be under 250'. And the load less than 300w. I am there, except it won't run. Do I have a bad transformer or is there something that I am missing? Oh, and this is to light my haunt in my front yard, so I am running out of time! Thanks for any advice! Matt

How to thread an aluminium rod

Hi, I have got some 1 inch aluminium pipes (GI pipes) which I want to thread. I got the threading machine (hand held racheting type) and when I try to thread using that, it goes about 2 threads and after that, its pain - so stiff and even after exerting all my force, the pipe wont thread. I had read that to thread easier, you should coat the pipe with Wax or threading oil. Is there any other tips or tricks that you have used for threading? Any input is greatly appreciated. Capturing Audio using ESP32

I'm building a modest wall of lights with an ESP32 and dozens of ws2812b leds and thought wouldn't it be cool to set it up as spectrum analyser. I was thinking of having bluetooth speakers with an aux out, pair them to my phone and hook the aux out to the ESP32 to analyse the audio and drive the leds. Of course, it's not that straight forward so I thought I'd break it down into smaller tasks - First off hooking up the aux cable to the ESP32Amanda’s explanation of her op amp circuit proved very useful as a starter for 10 but I'll need to make some changes .First off, I need to lose the 9 volt batteries. To do this I believe I can replace the TL072 dual op amp she used with a TLV2372 dual rail to rail op amp. (Keeping it dual just in case I go stereo) The rail to rail feature allows me to use my currently available 5 volt supply rather than needing a higher voltage from the batteries Dan also pointed out in the comments, that the circuit is an inverted amplifier rather than a non-inverted amplifier. I checked out op amp circuits on Wikipedia And It turns out he was right – good catch Dan He’s obviously very smart so I also went along with his other suggestion of strapping the opposing input to ground with a 10k resistor to reduce noise For this project I don’t wish to use a mic and will be replacing it with an aux in jack so there is no need to give it any power. The amplitude of the voltage will be about half that of Amanda’s microphone but we have the variable pot to crank up the amplitude. Finally I’ll be replacing the Arduino with an ESP32 to perform the sampling/analysis of the signal. It’s faster and has bags of IOT features but I’m concerned I’ll need to make yet more changes. The Arduino ADC pin has a range from 0 – 5 volts whereas the ESP32 has a range of 0 - 3.3 volts. Thankfully we have the variable pot to adjust the amplitude to say 1.5volts . And for the voltage divider we can take advantage of the 3.3volts provided by the ESP32 dev board so there is in fact no need to adjust the resistors as the 100k/100k split gives us the desired 1.65 offset voltage. That turned out to be a lot easier than I expected So the circuit now looks like this Well done for reading down this far! Let me know if you see anything I may have missed or perhaps direct me to a similar project where I can pick up more tips Thanks

Biobutanol in small batches

I am looking for information on making small batch production of butanol. I have a small remote oyster farm, and I am interested in incorporating kelp production into the farm. I have read a lot about using kelp to produce bioethanol, however, it blends so well with water, it would be problematic for an outboard engine. We are looking to make our operations carbon neutral. I have read a bit that suggests butanol would be a better alternative to ethanol, but haven't found nearly as much information on how it is developed. Would love some help or ideas

How do I keep my cats out of my flower garden? They're using it as a litter box! Answered

I have just planted my flower garden with all sorts of seeds and bulbs. Unfortunately, my cats seem to think that I've dug up all of this nice dirt for them to use as a litter box. I've tried coffee grounds sprinkled on the area which I've heard are repulsive to cats and also fertilize the flowers, but my cats evidently were born at a Starbuck's. I now have sprinkled mothballs all over the flower bed but I'm afraid that they are going to burn my plants that are now coming up although they are keeping the cats out. Can anyone help me?

Edits not appearing on my published 'Ible

Hello there,Please excuse me if this is an old topic but just can't see how to make edits appear! I published my first 'Ible a couple of days ago but then realized the language needed a little tidying. I have done the edits and can see them in the editor, but when I view the final project the old text still remains. I have pressed save and preview and all is fine.Any tips on making the edits appear on the published version? Thanks, Jayne

heliostat and sun tracker basic program

In the late 1980s, I designed, built and programmed a computer-controlled heliostat. Its mirror reflected sunlight into my living-room, making it much brighter. It worked excellently with almost no attention for many years, until a neighbour's tree grew and blocked sunlight from reaching the mirror. The computer was a Commodore VIC 20, which was old even then, and had only 4.5 kilobytes of memory. The program I wrote, in Commodore BASIC, fitted into that space and handled all the control functions. It even included a few "bells and whistles". For example, at night-time the mirror was automatically parked face downward to reduce the buildup of dust. That particular program would work only on a VIC, and I haven't seen any of those for many years. However, I have recently taken the astronomical and trigonometrical parts of the program and made them into a new program which I'll append below. It calculates the position of the sun in the sky, as azimuth (true compass bearing) and angle of elevation, as seen from anywhere on the earth at any time on any date. It also calculates the required orientation of a mirror if it is to reflect sunlight in any desired direction. With the addition of some code to enable the computer to control motors, this could become the software for a computerized sun-tracker or heliostat. I'll append two versions of the program. The first is in QBasic, and contains quite a lot of explanatory comments. The second version is in a very generic BASIC, and has been tested on many implementations of the language. It even has line numbers! Personally, I prefer the QBasic version. The coding is more elegant. However, the generic version is likely to be useful to more people. It's public-domain. Use it for any purpose, even commercially. Enjoy! dow ' SunAlign.BAS (Version for QBasic and similar dialects) ' Calculates position of sun in sky, as azimuth (compass bearing ' measured clockwise from True North) and angle of elevation, as ' seen from any place on earth, on any date and any time. How do I fix a Black & Decker electric lawn mower motor?

A neighbor asked me to have a look at her B&D electric mulching mower (MM1800 Type 1) after it stopped working. When I pulled the control switch, the blade didn't turn, but there was a buzzing sound and kind of a burned plastic smell. I also found that it was very hard to turn the blade by hand. At home, after a lot of trouble I was able to remove the 6 screws holding down the big plastic cover. (You should see how much grass was under there.) I can now see the outside of the motor, but how do I figure out which parts need to be replaced? The owner's manual has a parts list. I assume that some parts (like the magnet ring and armature) are OK, and that the problem is with something like the brush spring/terminal/brush insert or rectifier. How do I find out? (I'm hoping it won't be that hard to replace the parts of the motor.) Thx.

I have a sagging metal futon frame that I only use as a couch.

I have a sagging metal futon frame that I only use as a couch. The mattress  is a thick one and it always slides forward. Is there a way to fix the sagging frame and keep the mattress from sliding forward. Maybe even create a cheap couch frame but still using the mattress as cushioning.?

How to build a 0-36v, 0-10a, Regulated, AC/DC Power Supply? Answered

I'm looking for how to make a variable regulated power supply for DC electronics. I have wall warts and single range transformers for lots of different items ranging from battery chargers to toys to LED lights and am looking to combine them all down into one unit. I need to be able to adjust the voltage from ad little as 1.2v @ 200ma all the way up to 36v @ 10amps. I would normally take the easy way out and buy a power supply online that would handle it, but I am strapped for cash and this is more a luxury then a necessity. If possible I would like to be able to use LCD/LED panel meters that are powered by the input along with fine and coarse controls, along with dual outputs. Something along the lines of the Mastech HY5005E-2 that's pictured below. Maybe convert a cheap PC power supply with a digital multimeter? I can solder and work a basic circuit but I haven't done anything this complicated as yet.  I would appreciate any help offered. Thanks!

ELECTRIC VEHICLE. A simple lightweight EV platform.

The above is from an article in 2014 by Ganhaar in which I am most interested. The possibility is that we would manufacture this platform but before doing so wondered if the owners still had the vehicle and whether it would be available to purchase. We contemplate using the platform to create a wooden eco friendly car the body of which would be infinitely re made from simple woodworking tools.Any help in tracing the owners of the EV would be very much appreciated. 3p 18650 Parallel charging with a tp4056

Hello I've harvested some 18650s from old laptop battries. Im testing them by firstly charging the cells to see if they hold their voltage. I've heard that you should charge low voltage cells slowly. So I connected a tp4056 to 3 cells in parallel, making sure they are all in .20mV of each other. This setup should in theory charge each cell at 333mA...right? They are charging perfectly for the past 4 hours without heating up and im monitoring their voltage every 30mins, noticing that the first cell is at 3.80v while the other two are at 3.55, 3.53 respectively. So my question is what if the first cell reaches 4.20v first. Will the tp4056 keep charging the rest and overcharge my 1st cell Or will it just stop?
