Help: How to order a PCB correctly? Answered

Hi there,I'm not entirely sure whether this post is in the right place nor if the question is set up in the right way. It's my first time in here. So in case forgive me.I could need some help. I want to craft a special clock for which I found a nice guide on your platform:https://www.instructables.com/id/Lord-Vetinari-Clo...The problem is that I'm not very competent with electronics. In Step 5 of the instructions I need to order a PCB. The EAGLE files are already provided so, as I understand it, I 'only' have to order the PCB accordingly. I tried to get a read on the topic but as I have never really worked with electronics it was rather confusing and it seems to be a process where mistakes are easily made. The rest of the guide (e.g. software) shouldn't be a huge problem (though I'm not entirely confident the aspects "PIC12F683 IC" and "PIC Programming Kit". But I guess I can sort that out on my own if needed).I really would appreciate if someone could help me in some way. Maybe with an explanation on what to do or a link to a guide on the topic that fits my situation or anything else. :)Have a nice day!

I'm trying to build a power supply for some ws2812b leds ( 3 projects at nearly 300 leds Requireing 18 amp)The problem is that the only power supply large enough to handle them (5v 40 amp) has a 18v spike at the startup.Any ideas for a delay circuit that is 18v tolerant? Even having to push a button after the circuit is energized would work for me

Attaching a Spur Gear onto a Motor

I want to attach a spur gear with a bore diameter of 6mm onto the shaft of this motor (6mm diameter shaft). How would I go about doing this? From what I see, the shaft is smooth so is my only option to find a gear with a set screw? Or is it sufficient to attach a gear with no set screw and simply rely on the friction of the bore? The torques will be low. Are there any websites that one would recommend for finding gears like this? I'm finding it impossible to find gears with a module of 1.0, bore diam. of 6mm, 12 teeth, and a thickness of less than 20mm to fit onto the shaft.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How do I fix my jukebox? (1976 Wurlitzer Baltic)

Hello, lovely people!I have a 1976 Wurlitzer Baltic jukebox that has started to misbehave. The needle arm lowers, then jerks slightly, coming down pretty much in the middle of the song, then at the end of the song, the arm is supposed to raise back up, and the record should be returned to the carriage, but now it's stopped doing that.I've spoken to a couple of jukebox servicing-type-people and they've said it'd cost more than the jukebox is worth to get it properly serviced and fixed (it's not a popular model), so I turn to you guys. I'm happy to do the work myself (if possible), but I want to properly understand what's actually wrong with it before I start poking around and potentially making it worse. Some sub-standard video of the the problem here and here, and I've included the only copy of the service manual I could find. Before it came to me, the jukebox lived in a student union bar for many years, so I imagine it wasn't particularly well taken care of. I love this machine very much, and I hate that it's become basically unusable. Any advice or help you can give would be very gratefully received. Many thanks in advance,Kath

How do I make a circuit that acts like a set of radio buttons, i.e only one LED can be selected at a time.

I'm trying to make a timing light for use in toastmasters and would like to know of any IC's that can help me out. I've already come up with 2 possible solutions, but both seem more complicated than necessary. All I want is to have 3 LEDs with 3 associated push buttons. Any time an LED is selected via a button, any LED that was already on turns off, so that only one LED is on at a time. A rotary switch would be perfect for selecting one LED at a time, however I am looking for a low profile solution, and also something that can be used with one hand while attached to a small light weight device. It seems like there should be an IC for this, but I don't have much experience with them and don't know what this functionality is called. Any advice is appreciated. Edit: I'll also mention that I'm looking for a solution under $50 and that uses parts that I can source locally (both possible solutions mentioned above meet these requirements so I'm not very flexible on this).

Make use of iCamera 1000 units?

I have 3 "iCamera 1000" camera units laying around. I do not have the rest of the security system they are designed to function with, but there has to be some way to make use of them and have some fun. I have lots of cat 6 cable and RJ45 connectors to custom make a cable if anyone has the expertise to figure out how to make use of these. Before posting here, I searched and searched here and on Google but only found information regarding the "normal" application of these cameras..... I was hoping for something more outside the box which is why I am here. I included a front/back picture. Thanks for any ideas!!

Battery run bluetooth class d amp - help me fix the noise problem.

Hello, I am designing a small bluetooth battery powered portable speaker enclosure/boombox. At the core of this design is a cctv li-ion battery that has 12v and 5v USB output ports. Its a great start to a boombox, or at least I thought it was. From that battery, I am powering two things. A parts express Stereo Bluetooth Module, (running on the 5v USB) and a Lepai 2020 tripath amp, running on the 12v Perfect you say. Thats what I said. Plug it all together.... huge huge huge garbage noise, with digital clicks and beeps. All three components work fine on their own. The amp plays cleanly with bluetooth modules that have internal lithium batteries, the bluetooth module sends a clean signal to amps not sharing a power source. I had a proficient audio repair man attempt to filter out the noise with resistors placed in numerous places, but it only slightly lessened the noise. Unfortunately I didn't document what he tried. I have attached a photo of the setup (without the speaker attached) I noted one thing... that if one was to connect the bluetooth using the rca input to the amp, if you only touched the internal rod to the inside of the female rca jack on the amp, keeping the outer shielding free from the amp, it would clearly make the noise, with no change in the noise when you pushed the plug all the way on, touching the outer shielding. That seems of interest. Yes? Let me know if I can clarify any more of this. Any help would be most appreciated! Thanks, Tor

Microcontroller help!

So I'm working on a project to build a binary clock style watch, though I have very limited experience and knowledge about circuitry and microcontrollers. As of right now I have found a relatively simple project on this site I wish to replicate and downsize to fit in the size of a watch. The design of the circuit is based off the layout in this project:https://www.instructables.com/id/Simple-Binary-Clo...Now I have read up on microcontrollers and microprocessors. I also read some stuff about oscillators and how they can work to essentially synchronize the internal clocks of microcontrollers making them more accurate for clock uses. First is this true that a crystal oscillator can improve the accuracy of a microcontroller? And if so, how could I add a 16.000 Mhz crystal oscillator to the circuit presented above? (I want to use a 16.000 Mhz oscillator because the code written for the microcontroller is based on the 16 Mhz internal clock, so this should line up fine)Thanks if you can answer these questions!

Circuitry help needed!

So I'm working on a project to build a binary clock style watch. I have found a fairly simple system to replicate though I plan to downsize the circuit to fit within roughly a 40x40mm area, the height I am not too concerned about right now. Here is the link to the project I plan to replicate:https://www.instructables.com/id/Simple-Binary-Clo...Now with the circuit presented I plan to break it into two boards(possibly three). The top board would utilize 2.8x3.2mm LED chips and connect them properly for the ATtiny and shift register. The second board would house the resistors, ATtiny, shift register, and buttons. It would connect to the LED board via vertical wires that would pass through the LED board and hold it directly above. On the bottom of the second board would be the battery holder and wires to directly connect the positive and negative leads to the needed inputs from the backside of the board. This would result in the second and third boards being back to back. (And I do plan on designing and etching my own boards for this project)So my questions for you are:I want to add a 16.000 Mhz crystal oscillator to the circuit to increase the accuracy of the internal clock of the ATtiny, so where would I add it in?How could I reduce the output power from the battery to run the system on minimal power so that my battery can last a year or longer? And is there such thing as a dual sided pre-sensitized pcb board I could use to make the circuits?

Energy efficient, waterless, Copper strip based cooling system

Energy efficient ,waterless Copper stripe based cooling system:The presented Idea is based on Heat exchange principle. As per sketch there will be a conveyor belt system and some copper stripes will be connected with this belt. Each copper strip will have a moveable hook. The conveyor belt will move with a motor. Each copper strip will be separated with each other and with conveyor belt with the help of Insulation (wooden insulation). Each copper strip will be connected with the machine for 15 to 20 seconds to absorb the heat and after that this copper strip will be removed and next copper strip will be ready to absorb the heat. The removed strip will be cooled down after some time and will be ready to couple with the machine again. In this way each copper stripe will work one by one to absorb the heat to cool the machine and each strip will get cool down due to convection .What I thought is that if I use a continuous water jet to cool the motor then the motor will remain cool so if I use the copper stripes then the same effect will be occured. It will work in this way that temperature will be not increased of machine if I couple the device with the machine. It will be low cost, low maintenance, waterless solution to cool the machines. It will consume almost nil energy

How can I make the most of my homemade stocks/broths?

Hello everyone,,I've been enjoying making vegetable broth/chicken stock over the past month or so, and it's made for some filling soups. However, I find that whatever I make soup with overpowers the broth so much that I can't appreciate the flavors of the broth. For example, I like to make a simple Minestrone. The broth tastes fantastic, but the potatoes and green beans I add to the soup leave no room for the broth to stand out. Is that just how soups work? That aside, I'd like to find other simple soup recipes so I can use all this stock I keep making..

Problem with too much window condensation

I have double pane, insulating glass house windows that collect condensation during the winter heating months. The condensation is not between the panes, it is inside the home. The water builds up and runs down onto the wood frame causing rot. It occurs only on the bottom inch or two of the window. The home is in Northern Wisconsin where it is commonly 20 deg F outside and 70 deg F inside. The interior humidity is controlled and not excessive. Aside from setting the interior humidity to desert-like conditions, how can I remove the moisture and prevent further damage to the frame? Desiccant bags? Solar powered fans? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Inherited old electrical equipment -Teacher

I inherited a classroom full of old electrical equipment and parts. The high school's pathway has changed throughout the years and no one uses the equipment anymore. Some of the parts include resistors, soldering equipment, wires and cables and bulbs, multimeters, voltometers, alligator clips, etc. I teach an introduction to coding class and I have no background in electrical anything. I would like to create a maker space for these objects, but was wondering if anyone has ideas for starter projects that I could lead the students through, to get them familiar with these types of materials, and working with basic circuits? If we could throw in some coding, that would be even better! I'd love to use some of this equipment.

IGBT ZVS Induction Heater?

Among the many tutorials for building an induction heater out on the internet, there are two primary types. Some heaters use a ZVS circuit, and are quite simple but generally limited to a power of around 1000 watts, not enough to melt most metals. Other heaters use PLL controllers and coupling transformers to add charge the primary coil/capacitor loop, and these can be much more powerful but are significantly more complicated (and expensive) to build. It seems the limiting factor in the power of the ZVS circuits is that they can use only 2 MOSFETs, and each must conduct large amounts of current. However, if these could be replaced with IGBTs, which could conduct far more current, a much more powerful ZVS induction heater could be built. Is there any reason IGBTs couldn't be used for a ZVS heating circuit?

DIY Hot Tub Solar Heating

Hi. I have a solar tub heating system 3/4s complete. It's based on a 100W PV panel to drive a pump, charge the battery and supply the electronics. A 16.5 sq ft solar water collector to heat the water. The heart of the system is a (made in China) DST1020 water temperature controller. My first thoughts are to open the flow of hot water to the tub at around 25degC, and cut it of at around 34degC. Problem - this controller has a reputation as a great little device, but it's a b**ch to program, the various instructions online just don't work. All I want it to do is close the heating dry relay contact at 25C and open at 34C. Easy? No. Has anyone got experience of this controller?

AC windturbines in Series to boost input voltage for inverter

I just purchase a VAWT (Vertical Axis Wind Turbine) and an inverter. The wind turbine is rated at 24V AC, however, I see that the rated V AC is requiring quite a lot of wind to produce that Voltage. By mistake, I ordered a grid-tie inverter that starts at 22 V AC and so far I have not been able to reach the startup voltage of the inverter. The inverter is rated 1000W and has AC input 3 phase. It can manage up to 60V AC input. The VAWT is 600W 24 V AC 3 phase. So here my questions: Currently, I don't get any power at all, so how can I modify my setup to make this work. I have a few suggestings that I would love to get some feedback on:Option 1: Buy a second VAWT + two rectifies that convert AC to DC. I should mention that the windmills will stand close to each other and receive more or less the same wind strength, so they should produce fairly the same amount of power. On the DC side, I would put them in series and then I would use a DC to AC converter to get the power back to AC current. The idea is that by doing this I would increase the voltage at least 22 V required by the inverter. I would expect some power loss and probably also voltage, using the rectifier and DC to AC converter. Option 2: Same as option 1, but after the rectifier and connecting in series, buy a new inverter that can handle DC input within the range that the VAWT's produces. (W and Voltage)Option 3: Buy a new Controller that charges a battery and connect an inverter to the battery to send power to the grid. Depended on the solution this solution might require a rectifier.Any comment on these or maybe other options?

How to bend plastic optic fiber ?

Hi, I have 0.75, 1 and 1.5mm plastic opic fiber that I am using for my project (which will be the topic of my first instructables ;) ) I need a way to bend the POF in right angle. I don't care if the bending raidus is not very important (spec says max radius is 10 time diameter, 15mm radius is ok for me, and I don't care if I loose a little brightness). I want the POF to stay bend after I have bent it : it must keep the curve I gave it for at least 24 hours. I manage doing something not so bade (but really time consuming) by heating the POF with an hair dryer. I wander if anybody has a better tested idea ? (in the meantime, I'll try putin it in boiling water to see if it kep the shape once cooled). Regards, tReg.

Why doesn't my windmill generator seem to charge the batteries?

Hi there, I figured Id post here because I have no one to ask and answers aren't obvious from googling. The connection is as follows: - (0 Volts to 40 Volts open voltage) Windmill to a 12 Volt Battery. - (0 Volts to 20 Volts open voltage) Solar Panel to a 12 Volt Battery. A solar panel has an open voltage @ 19.95 Vdc and delivering 0 amps.  The panel is not connected.   Then I connect the panel to the 12 Volt Battery.  Now, the solar panel now shows a voltage of 14 V and delivering 2 amps into the battery. That makes sense to me.  When connecting the solar panel to the battery, the system is now "on load", so the voltage drops.  But because the voltage drops, the amperage is being sent into the battery. ---- Now,  The windmill has an open voltage between 0 and 40 vdc.  On average it shows 20 volts when spinning. 40 volts when its faster.  Its known that it takes 14.1 volts to start charging a battery.   So, now lets assume the windmill is spinning @ 40 volts open voltage.   I connect the windmill to the battery.  For under a second, I see amperage go from the windmill to the battery.   The amperage amount is 3 amps for 1/4 a second, 0.6 2/4 of a second, then eventually 0. The voltage after connecting the windmill to the battery is the same as the battery voltage.  In my eyes, its not charging the battery, because amperage dropped to 0. As a side note, as soon as I connect the windmill to the battery, the generator/turbine, also slows down in speed.   I am also curious to know why it is slowing down as well.   Anyone have any ideas? - U

Where can I buy cheap land and legally live in a tent or yurt full-time?

I was wondering if anyone knew of a state or town in the US where I could buy a small, cheap piece of land and legally live in a tent or a yurt full-time? I really didnt even know where to begin looking for advice on this....So Im hoping some awesome person on this website will have ideas. These are the things I am more specifically looking for: I would like to move to an area that doesn't get much (if any) snow. I would like to buy no more then about 5 acres in the woods somewhere, and do NOT need utilities or buildings, and I would be fine living on logged land and possibly "problem land". The land would have to have access by road...And preferably no further then 30-40 minutes from a town. Oh, and I won't live in Florida. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please let me know! Thank you!! Ryan

K'nex: The bane of modern DIY

Okay, We all know that K'nex is fun, and nearly everyone remembers playing with them when they were young. BUT, I have found that nearly every time that I try to find an Instructable on ANYTHING half or more of the title results come up as something like this "Seuper-Ultra Awsum L33T K'nex thing". We all know that K'nex is fun, but is it really necessary, that every time that your 8 year old son, (or, 8 year old self for that matter) builds something out of K'nex that looks remotely like ANYTHING you go post an Instructable on it. Now, I am not trying to bash on K'nex here, in fact, I love them, but I hate when people think in is necessary to torment the rest of the world with their primitive creations. Then again, this is just my opinion, please post your own. Long days, and pleasant nights, Aztof Du'Reth

Programming help needed!

So I'm currently working on a project to build a binary clock style watch. I have found a pretty straight forward and simple project to replicate. The project does give a code to upload to an ATtiny85 so that the project will work. Now I noticed that he was programming his ATtiny with an Arduino board and I assume he used a different coding language than python(which is what I am familiar with). Here is the link to the project for more info:https://www.instructables.com/id/Simple-Binary-Clo...Now I have a Raspberry Pi 3B+, and I have Anaconda, Spyder, and Jupyter on my computer which I have used before to create standalone programs. My question is can I use my raspberry pi to program an ATtiny85 or would I need a different board to program it? And second how simple is it to program the ATtiny?

Vintage Sewing Machine Repair

I acquired a older sewing machine at a thrift shop, but it needs a little work. There appear to be two issues, possibly interrelated:-The motor makes a strange intermittent screeching noise after the machine has spun up for a few seconds, and smells like ozone. I think the commutator is arcing. I'm not entirely sure though, I'm no expert on universal motors.-The hand wheel sticks at one point during the revolution. This occurs when the needle, as well as the feed dogs, are fully up.I'm guessing the sticking is demanding too much toque from the motor, causing the weird sound and smell. Regardless, de-gumming the thing and getting smooth motion seems to be the logical first step. I've applied mineral oil to all the moving parts I could find that looked like they would benefit from it. Now the motion is extra smooth, until it sticks, just as bad, and at exactly the same place.I'm a bit stumped. Any ideas on what I should try next?
