3d printer?

Two ideas wondering what people think.... 1. Have the up/down bed for a 3d printer go up and down with water... Just have a little valve that lets water out and the printing bed would slowly lower. At whatever speed you wanted. Could work the other way and fill up. 2. Have the extruded plastic print into water... it would cool instantly and might help with resolution? Just an idea.

Gigantic 3D printer

This 3D printer is a giant step up from other 3D printers. Where most 3D printers make items that you can hold in your hands,  this machine by Enrico Dini in Italy is making items you can walk inside. It lays them up tiny layer by tiny layer and the result is pretty sturdy. One day it might even be used on site to make intricate buildings. Link via Make

3d printer service

HI everyone. I am wanting to start a 3d printing service business. This would be on a small scale to start. My question is how to securely download 3d files from customers so that I can use those files to create a 3d printed object for them, then ship objects back. I thought about offering the service on craigslist and receive the customer's file through email. But I know that a website would be better, but have no idea as how to implement the capability to receive customers' files securely and while keeping those files organized. Items will be printed using a makerbot, so I would communicate to potential customers as to the limitations of said printer. Thanks, and would appreciate any answers or advice.

The Buccaneer 3D Printer

I just stumbled upon this while looking through kickstarter. It's called the Buccaneer, it will retail for ~$350 and you can pre-order it in August. From what I've read it will ship late this year, or early next year. Check it out on their Kickstarter page or their website.

Morning all from the shire or Oxford UK My names is Rory, happy to be a member of the site and always enjoy a good discussion Thought it would be helpful for myself and others to start a bit of a debate about 3D printers in general. I build my own 3D printer last year and was happy with it the 6x6x6 results were not the best but better than anything I had produced before, I regreted ever selling it TBH but now the time has come for me to think about getting another. Ideally looking to have a scanning unit too but it is wether to build or buy.......TOO MUCH CHOICE!! Since last year ive seen a massive jump in the tech used in this area and my main questions are: What do each of you use and why that specific printer? Whats your best results ( best object made ) which to people perfer shop brought (ready made) or home made (DIY KIT) If you could choose any 3D printer what would it be? Cheers all, Look forwards to seeing how this thread discusses this topic

3D Printer-ing

I need to find somewhere that has a 3D printer that someone can just go in and pay to use, but I have no idea where such a place could be. Do these shops even exist? Would I have to go around asking people if I can use their 3D printer? Is printing something from a 3D printer a long painstaking process? How do I even print stuff from a 3D printer?? Aaaah!

3d Printer RESIN

Hi, i'm planning on buying a SLA printer, but i want to be sure that i can get a good amount of resin at a fair price, i found some places but since i'm from Bolivia-Latin America, the shipping and buying from Us Europe or Asia it becomes quite expensive, sometimes like +65% to 80% of the product itself. If someone knows a DIY resin, or some good places that doesn't cost as much per L or Galon plz let me know and share it with everyone else. Anyway, thx a lot for reading and take your time, i hope i can get an answer.

It must print at least 30cmx30cmx30cm and a maximum of 45cmx45cmx45cm. It must be able to run on a mac!!!!! it can be made of anything but I don't have a CNC router or laser cutter. I live in australia so sadly we don't have a TechShop!!! The printer must be able to print in high quality! I am only 12 years old!!!!

3d printer control software

I've just finished making a 3d printer, only there is one problem, I need some software to control it. I've built a polar 3d printer, where the extruder moves around a central axis and along the radius of that axis. In other words the extruder moves about a polar coordinate system. So, I am trying to find the polar form of a Bezier curve, where I can input a set of x,y coordinates and get a polar curve connecting them.

3d delta printer issues

Hi everyone. I need some help regarding the homing of a 3d delta printer, and it's my first attempt to create a 3d printer by scrap. My problem is regarding the homing, when I do the homing 2 out of 3 endstop work properly but 1(always one) doesn't work properly(see video). While the support is hitting the endstop, it moves a little back like the others, but then move up again and doesn't stop 'til I do it manually. there is someone that have some idea to solve the issue? Hope everything is clear enough, otherwise ask me :) Thank you in advance.

Cheap 3D printing company?

Hi, I would like to get a 3D print of a model I made. I've heard a lot of good things about Ponoko. I exported my file from SketchUp to a Collada file(*.dae), and then uploaded it to ponoko.com. I selected the material, and this is what I found out: It would cost me $200 for a 3-inch cube, with the cheapest material(durable plastic)!!! Does anyone else know of somewhere where I can buy reasonably-priced 3D objects that I design(<$70 USD)? I'm not worried about shipping time, as long as i get it within a month.

3D Printers for Special Needs Makers

Cameron is a wheelchair-bound maker in Colorado using 3D Printing.  He's especially interested in creating a head motion-controlled robotic arm that would use 3D Printing to make the brackets and fixtures to mount a portable system onto a wheelchair.  This robotic arm would really help people like Cameron navigate the world, but it could also be used at a workbench by non-handicapped makers as a 3rd arm.   So, an Indigogo campaign was started to raise funds to help Makers with specific physical needs get access to 3d printing: http://youtu.be/J2QsMNqi09w   http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/3d-printers-for-special-needs-makers Go, look, it's cool.

High school students' lack of knowledge regarding 3D printers.

Has anyone else come upon the severe lack of knowledge about 3D printers by high school students, and possibly people in general as well? Today, my teacher announced to my art class that: "Some architects will be coming in to show us their 3D printer that they built". Then, practically every student started to say things such as: "what the hell is that?". The teacher then said that: "it's like a printer, but it prints things out in 3D". After that, one student asked: "so it like prints stuff out on paper in 3D?" So the teacher replied: "no, it prints objects out in 3D". Then, the same student asked again: "so it prints stuff out onto paper in 3D.....?". It went on like this for about 5 minutes, until the teacher got tired of explaining from her limited knowledge of 3D printers. After the teacher managed to end the conversation, I heard murmurs from the others saying things like: "I don't get it..?" and "That doesn't make any sense..". Has anyone else encountered this? (not that I'm an expert on 3D printers or anything..) Thanks -Me

New DLP Printer with the LARGEST build volume on the market

Hey Guys, We are now kindly inviting everyone to finish a survey for us. We are now developing the next generation of our DLP 3D printer, and we really need to gather some opinions before it hits Kickstarter. It will be a DLP printer with the largest build volume on the market, and it will provide the best solution to SME, MakerSpace and personal users. There will be only 8 questions, and every member will be notified before we launched to make sure that every one gets the Early Bird reward if you are interested(remember to submit to our newsletter). You can find detailed information including tech specs and test prints by visiting our demo website(which is free, and will be reconstructed later): http://futuremake3d.wix.com/rocko3d Demo videos are coming soon, please stay tuned. The survey is on the "More" page, so help us get some feedback. Thanks!
