70-100V powered ZVS?

So I was playing around with my ZVS driver and I turned up the variac to 40V, getting roughly 100kV and boom the flyback caught on fire and my ZVS driver fried. So I want to build a new one that could handle around 70-100V input. I know that for higher inputs some component values need to be changed but for voltages that high, I do not know exactly what would need to be changed. I was thinking of using two STY34NB50 MOTFET's, but wasn't sure if they were the right kind.

70-note "Bottle Organ"

Here's one for you... I'm looking to create a 70 note bottle organ, inspired by this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzucpFgi7Xk Except I'm wanting to build mine in a more "automatic" state - played via MIDI notes, an arduino and lots and lots of solenoids making spoons hit the bottles.. That side of it I've got covered thanks to other excellent instructables which have taught me a lot about micro electronics. What I am currently trying to work out is if there is a way to change the pitch of bottles in any way except simply adding water. Would another liquid achieve the same results with less "spill risk"? Does it even need to be a liquid? I'm guessing it needs to be a liquid as I believe the physics of the noise made when a bottle is struck is based on the water absorbing vibrations, making them slower and lowering the pitch. If anyone has experience tuning multiple bottles to be struck as an instrument then please do reply! Alternatively if anyone has any novel suggestions for things which would be easier to persuade 70 notes out of then please also reply! End goal - be able to play flight of the bumblebee at full speed with chords and out-nerd the guys in the video. Ideally on bottles. Many thanks! Leo

Archos 70 250Gb - poor review

I bought the Archos 70 as a replacement for my very reliable (but full) Archos AV700TV. I needed a decent memory that I could use both as back-up storage to my PC, and to show images portably - with nearly 50,000 digital images, this was the 70's "killer app" for me. Web browsing etc was just icing on the cake. As a web browser, it's fine - for ease of use it sits squarely between the iPod and the iPad, and is cheaper than either. The screen is a nice size. However, on it's "killer app", it FAILS. I uploaded my images (9 years' worth) in folders by year, and sub-folders by month. Easy. When I came to use the gallery function, though, it would only show me the first five years' worth. Nearly half my images simply did not appear in the gallery. Going through the "file" tab, I confirmed they were all there. I could even look at a few, but then it would kick me back to the Gallery function, and the images would become invisible to me again. I emailed Archos customer services several times, and got no reply beyond an automatic promise to respond within 2 days. A promise they never kept. On the website, the phone number for tech support is a premium-rate number. Eventually, I had to threaten the marketing department with a poor review, just to get a normal number for tech support. (By the way, that number is 0207 949 0115, and is charged at your normal (UK) landline rates) In the mean time, the gallery function failed completely, and I got alerts telling me the bluetooth function wasn't working (I hadn't switched it on), and that the device is running out of memory (there are currently 230Gb free). When I eventually spoke to a human being, he was as helpful as he could be (no problem with the call-centre's work, it's the higher-ups via email that are a waste of space), except that the firmware version installed on the device (2.3.6) is apparently one that has never been installed on Archos 70s (it should be 2.4.19), so he could offer no help over the phone, except try and update the firmware, and if that doesn't work, re-format the hard drive and start again from scratch. Now, after three attempts the correct firmware is now apparently installed, but the faults all remain. I am reduced to formatting the whole thing and starting from scratch and if this re-install doesn't work, I shall be demanding a refund.

Led Zeppelin Christmas medley?

I heard this neat Christmas song on the radio. It was a medley of Led Zeppelin songs and Christmas songs. I'm not sure what Christmas songs there were but it had the tunes of Communications Breakdown, Rock and Roll, and Kashmire. I am not surte if this was actually by Led Zep or somebody else but I was hoping somebody could tell me who performed it and maybe post a video of it.

Assortment of plastic gears for sale. 70 in total.

I have an assortment of plastic gears all different sizes on ebay if anyone's interested. Mostly from old printers and scanners. The item is in the UK, but willing to post to most countries. From the listing "This is an assortment of plastic/nylon (not sure what they're made of) gears that I've collected over the years. These are mostly from old printers and fax machines that I've stripped for the stepper motors. Please bear in mind that most of these will not mesh with each other - they're all different sizes, pitches, and different centre hole diameters, and many of them have original grease on them. So don't expect to be able to make a large gear train out of these, most of them won't mesh." http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item;=290634418757 The ruler in the picture is 20cm ( 8" ) long

Where would the ground go in this schematic for a Sawtooth Generator? Answered

I found this schematic in a library book, but there is no ground labeled. Please help as soon as possible, I would like to have this finished by Christmas for my brother. My guess would be on the very bottom wire where C1, Q2, and R6 are connected. (I would highlight where I meant, but I can't seem to add a comment box to the picture.)

photo: Polaroid 600/SX-70 => film mod?

I'm wondering if anyone is aware of attempts to use standard process film in a modified Polaroid 600 or One Step type camera... These things are a dime a dozen at Salvo and other such stores -- I'm curious as to an adaptation to, let's say, 120 type film, is possible. Anyone have ideas? The first 600 I just tried to take apart is now in shambles, those puppies do NOT come apart easily that I can tell. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Still attempting to iron out bugs with Kodak Instamatic modification, so far 3 have been murdered in the process.

Can I use 70% rubbing alcohol in a mini stove? Answered

I'm trying to build a mini camping stove (https://www.instructables.com/id/Cool-Little-Miniature-Stove!/to be specific) but the only alcohol I have is 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol. Would it be possible to use this instead of heet? And if isn't, can someone point me towards a site that tells you how to (with only stuff that is lying around the house)?(Note: I dont really care how efficiant the stove is, I just need it to work. Also, instead of using fiberglass inside of my stove, I'm planning on using perlite. Is this a good idea?)

MIT team designs plane that uses 70% less fuel

Planes use a massive amount of fuel to move passengers and cargo around the world. A new design from an MIT team could cut this fuel usage by 70%. This is great news and would make flights cheaper and pump out a lot less carbon. The bad news is that air traffic is expected to double in the next 30 years and the earliest these designs would be in the air is 2035. MIT designed their D-series as a 180 passenger aircraft meant to replace the domestic 737 market. Conventional airplanes utilize a single fuselage design, while the D-series uses two partial tubular shapes placed beside each other — which accounts for the bubble nickname. The plane utilizes a host of technological advances to decrease its fuel consumption. It has thinner longer wings and a smaller tail and engine placement at the rear of the plane instead of on the wings. All of these features account for part of the reduction in fuel usage. I have an 70's style turntable/radio console.?

I have a Magnavox 591558.  The issue is that the audio from the turntable is diminished out the left speakers. The FM tuner works and sounds great, however when using the turntable, left audio is very muffled.  As a troubleshooting step, I hooked up a Stanton STR8-100 turntable, with pre-amp, as a replacement to the built in turntable, and get the same results.  Good audio out the right channel, but muffled out the left.  So I know the issue has to be somewhere on the circuit board, as the Radio is fine through both channels. I do not see any blown capacitors, or any sign of damage on the circuit boards.  I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.

Issues and safety precautions to take with a 50-70 feet 12v bus line?

Hi  i am thinking of building a emergency LED setup with some 1w or 3w LEDs which will be connected to a 12v bus line powered from a deep cycle battery. I will be using a fuse between the battery and the bus line. I am thinking of placing a cluster of LEDs every few feet(7-10 feet). Each LED will be powerd using a mr16 LED driver using power from the bus line and the driver should consume somewhere around 350ma of current. Each LED will be mounted on a heatsink. Max LEDs in a LED cluster will be 3 no.s . Total current used when all the LEDs are on should be around 6 amps max. So, the question is, what kind of safety issues should i look out for and what type of wire i should use for bus line and the lines to leds. Also, should i be using relays for LEDs or will switches be fine? And what precautions should i take  ?

Help with recharagables

First off I'm pretty expierenced with electronics, but I've not been using rechargables that much. I'm not sure how to build a charger for nimh batteries. I want to charge a 3.6v battery, 70 mah (3x 1.2 volts, 70 mah each, I know, it's a small battery for a small device) as cheaply as possiable. I also want it so that it can still power the circuit (takes about 20 maH to run the circuit) when charging. If possiable, I want to charge like 5 or 6 of these at once. Help please!

Sodium Chlorate production other ways?

Sodium chlorate production without the need of keeping the solution at around 50-70°C from  the electrical power used for electrolysis?  sodium chlorate production besides having to heat from amperage the sodium chloride solution and electrolysis then would a catalysis to help with oxygenating the solution like instead of water use 3% hydrogen peroxide or manganese dioxide or ever ammonium nitrate and yield sodium chlorate using electralysis with out needing to keep the solution at 50-70°C?

Anyone know of a quality wireless switch for a light approx 70 feet away on a shed in backyard?

I would like to have an outdoor light on my backyard shed/ shop, which I would like to be able to turn on and off from inside my home, which is about 70 feet away. I know that wireless switches are made, but I can't seem to find a good quality, reliable, reputable brand. The only ones I have been able to find on the internet are not getting the best reviews, such as Heath Zenith sold at Home Depot, etc.. Does anyone know of a brand they could recommend? Price isn't really an issue, to keep from having to run wire out there if I can avoid it. Thank you. P.S.- I did think briefly about just using a motion detector, but that would only come on if there is motion, and that doesn't fit my needs. What I need is to be able to turn it on if, for example, I hear something out there and I need to look out of my back window and turn it on to be able to see what might be going on out there, if anyone is trying to break in, etc..
