We had an entire table stocked with desserts, and among them, these were the best:My Pumpkin Pie (still holds the record for world's best and smoothest pie)Apple Pie with Apple Logo baked by the Evil Mad Scientists themselves. I just wrote up a bug report. So this is not so much of a question as it is a shout out ---- Hey anybody else have your pictures eaten? https://www.instructables.com/community/Something-ate-my-pictures/ I hope this is not a serious problem. But even some of my older instructables are coming up with blank pictures also. The more I look the worse it appears to be. I have that bad feeling I get the same as when chkdsk says its deleting stuff from your hard drive because it says its corrupt.

I recently installed a new update of Apple's Quicktime. After this, I found that I couldn't watch videos online. (Via YouTube, Metacafe, etc.) In the video's place, I get a Quicktime logo with a white question mark. The same for flash-based interfaces, etc. After extensive google-ing and forum browsing, I still haven't found a solution to my problem. I know several other people that also have this problem, and they've always reported that it began after installing the latest update of Quicktime. So, I'm thinking it's a problem that affects a lot of people, and I'd like to post the solution so that it'd be easily available to a large audience. That, and I'd like to have a place to link to. Yay for Instructables! So, do any of you know how I can fix or work around this issue? (Iâm well aware that thereâs probably already a solution posted up somewhere, but I must be lacking the appropriate search terms).

I notice the web site was down last night well actually early this morning, That is Feb 28th. So today when I went back on and checked my instructables for activity, like comments made I noticed that some thumbnail pictures were missing -- blank. Opening the instructable the title is there but the opening image is gone. And a bunch of the other images were gone. Thought it was my browser or something so I opened them using my I pad --- same thing. Something has eaten my pictures. This is one of the ones. https://www.instructables.com/id/Where-Marbles-Come-From/ many of the pictures are gone. When you click on the blank picture the following message comes up The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later. And now I have looked at a few of my other instructables and they also have pictures missing. I hope they are not gone for good. Reloading all of those and trying to recreate the notes with them would be a lot of work.

I am very disappointed. I just spent 20 minutes typing up a perfectly good rant about how I was going to quit Instructables because my hastily put together towel-and-paracord project didn't make the contest finals. It was a very good rant, complete with accusations of favoritism and contest rigging, slams at the other projects that did make the finals, thinly veiled insults at the judges and Instructables staff, and other fun stuff. All tongue-in-cheek, of course. It was intended as a preemptive strike directed toward those who will inevitably whine about the contest results in earnest, in the hopes that a little satirical hyperbole would illustrate the ridiculousness of such whining. It bothers me to see intelligent, rational people turn into five-year-olds when they don't get their way, and I was hoping to forestall some of that with a bit of humor. All for naught, unfortunately. When I went to post it, it went into the Great Bit Bucket in the Sky. I can only assume that Robot Was Not Amused. Now I shall go and compose a rant about how I'm quitting Instructables because my posts are being unfairly censored. ;-p

Christy and I just returned from a couple of weeks in Guatemala and Honduras. We brought our laptops and experimented with "working from home from abroad." Did you even notice we were away? Lots of people in the Bay Area didn't! Check out the view from our Antigua, Guatemala office with Volcan Aqua looming over us. We investigated Mayan ruins in Tikal and Copan, climbed a volcano and stood 2 meters away from an active lava flow, learned to salsa dance, visited the Valhalla Experimental Macadamia Nut Station, were attacked by a scarlet macaw that ate one of my shirt's buttons, and ate as much typical Guatemalan food as our stomachs could hold. I liked Pepian de pollo so much, I took a class to learn how to cook it myself. Some of the things we learned have already been posted:Air Bags for EggsCreate an Ergonomic Standing Desk and Office on the GoHow to Sharpen Knivesand we've got Instructables coming soon for many of the traditional dishes and how they run the macadamia nut farm. All of our pictures can be found on this Flickr collection.

Hi, I have just constructed a chicken plucker as in the photo. As an initial attempt the device worked really well - except for the connection of the drill to the axle. This was not well aligned so it ate the threaded bar which was trying to pull itself out and not helped with the thread direction. Are there examples of how to better power such a device? I would like to be able to re-use my drill, I suspect properly aligned would work better. I could also swap to a non threaded bar but would need suggestions on how to keep the plucker barrel in place. Cheers

We had some nice projects at the show and tell. Small crowd, but enthusiastic. We had a wall-hanging piece of art/network firewall, a salvaged and modded electric scooter, a homemade drill, my little USB charging flashlight, and an ornithopter flying across the cafe. We took turns riding the scooter around the parking lot and ate a few snack cakes. It was fun seeing everyone's ingenuity in one spot. And by everyone, I mean both of us. It was great. And I got to keep all the leftover snacks! Thanks for the stickers; I handed out quite a few of them. All in all, it was a great success. Looking to see more people and more resourcefulness at the next show and tell.

So I used some of the copper etchant in aqueous solution stuff (instructables example) and a couple drips got onto my sink. I was thinking there might be two ways to minimize the appearance of these stains: 1. Could I just dremel the very surface off with a fine sandpaper/stone? 2. Could I use electrolysis in a small area to try to at least pull the copper off the sink? There is some dark staining which I assume is some acid that ate through some of the steel, but the copper is the most obvious problem. I doubt there's a good method to remove what I assume is the acid staining other than trying the dremel.

Do you remember the first time that you ate asparagus (Asparagusic acid) and being amazed at the burning rubber smell that came from your piddle within minutes of eating? Also I get a Sugar Puffs smell from real coffee and red wee from beetroot (betacyanins). Recently I have discovered that a handful of fenugreek will give an awful smell reminiscent of maple syrup gone wrong (3-hydroxy-4,5-dimethylfuran-2(5H)); cumin also. So my question is: has anybody here discovered any other foodstuffs that do the job? This is the level of excitement that I'm living to at the moment. ps I've just read that fenugreek is used to turn sugar syrup into fake maple syrup.

Look at this old calculator I bought for like $2 at a church sale. I just got around to taking it apart and it looks like a Nixie tube for the display, whatever it is, it's definatly sealed glass. I can't get any pics of it powered up srry because some dumb fart must have left dead batteries in there, I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work with fresh batteries. Well I figured out, look at the pictures, someone never cleaned the battery acid out of the inside and it ate away at some of the PCB So I wanna know, can I like hook this tube/display up to my computer through the serial port or something?? It's got 9 digits. Sorry for the sh*t pictures :(

In 195 days and six hours, Mark Beaumont rode around the world on a bicycle, totally destroying the previous record of 276 days. Some data: - He ate 6,000 calories a day. Since he's a vegetarian, most of that was plant-based, but he did eat some meat to keep his energy up. - His bike was worth almost $5,000 - He carried 176 pounds of gear, including a tent and a video camera to keep fans updated - He had gear stolen once by crack addicts in a motel - He hopes to have raised 18,000 pounds for charity. - Scariest bit was riding in Istanbul, a city of 15 million. - He rode through 20 countries - Was knocked off his bike once by a driver who ran a red light. linkvia treehugger

I'd like to pipe minimodem output to PiFm but I can't figure out how. For example, running "minimodem --tx 100" and then typing "hello" generates "hello" as 100 baud digital signal. I'd like to send this output into PiFM to transmit (on a ham band, not doing anything illegal, don't worry). Running "sudo ./pifm - ", according to the PiFM usage message, should "use stdin", but nothing else is said about it. When I do that, it seems to be accepting CHARACTER input, and doesn't actually transmit anything no matter what I type. The problem is, when I do things like "minimodem --tx 100 | sudo ./pifm -" nothing is transmitted, and the stdin is going to PiFM (which I know because, PiFM gives a message when you ^C out of it." Help, please?

I acquired this great steamer trunk today with the intent of turning it into a coffee table/storage trunk for my growing collection of jadeite glassware. However, I was so excited about finding it that I didn't inspect it as closely as I should have, and as a result, I've now got a very rusty steamer trunk on my hands - in some places the rust got so bad that it ate through the metal entirely, showing the wood beneath. Now, as a college student, I simply just don't have the budget to get it professionally restored, and I'm okay with that; I'm looking at it as more of a stopgap than an investment. But, I was wondering if there was something else I could do to fix it up? I considered stripping off the remaining tin sheeting and using a rust-stopper on the hinges, etc, priming the exposed wood, and then simply painting over the entire thing. Any suggestions, tips, etc, are very much appreciated!

We will see how this works out, I do this with my friends and it gets funny. Instructions: I will start with one word. If we were doing this in person it would be on a piece of paper. That paper is passed to the person next to him. That person writes a word, any word, and passes the paper on. This is repeated, and will form into: A. a funny paragraph B a totally random paragraph that makes no sense C a paragraph that tells an epic story that is the next "Hamlet" and makes perfect sense (That's no fun though) You can choose to end a sentence and start a totally new one anywhere Keep it appropriate. Example Cheese coated birds dance on top of my (*gasp*will it be appropriate?) head. Your pet cookie ate my cat. Here is the word: Why Oh, I forgot to say, add everything prier to your word into your comment (to avoid confusion and if you do that you can avoid a ton of replies to you that you will regret by just hitting post comment and not reply).

I have had some trouble cooking bacon. When I bought thick sliced bacon, my roommate stored it in the freezer (I think this was the problem?). The next day I had to moved it down to the normal side, took like 3 days to become pliable. However, when I try to cook it, it become so dry but I don't know why. Here's what I did, I left the slices on the pan (without heat) for 10 mins, then I cooked on medium heat, flipped till they became golden brown, then I pick them up by chopstick and leave it in my dish. First the bacon still have a little grease on it, so it's glossy; but a few moment later, it turn bone dry, no grease, no gloss, no nothing. Can anyone tell what my error was? I'm still new to bacon so sorry. PS: I wasn't able to take any picture cause my roommate ate them all because he was too hungry....

And we're off!At 3:30 this morning I began making the WOD's [waffles of departure] and gathered my friends. This was it, I was having my goodbye breakfast. We sat around a giant LED display that was playing tetris on autopilot like we were at a sports bar and called the AI engine out on it's bad plays. Choice is the name of the game in AI, how do you make the optimal choices with limited knowledge about the present and doubt about the future?I drank my cocoa considering the choices I've made to hit the skies and shoot a documentary on hackerspaces, and it filled me with exhilaration. What could be more critical than doing something that gives you the energy to do the thing you want to be doing? There has to be this ignition point to push the chooser into action, creating this snowball of awesome gathering steam as it goes downhill. Rather than chilling with Sysiphus on his uphill downhill journey. Feeling energized, feeling pumped, I called my friends around me and we ate to good health and poured generous libations of yogurt smoothie [Spilled the contents of the blender on the floor].

Kitewife has just handed me a shiny new copy of Unseen Academicals, by The Man Himself.Back in a few hours...UPDATEI'm back, and here is my favourite passage, which I can also post with spoiling anything:[He] took a sip of his beer. 'I have told this to few people, gentlemen, and I suspect never will again, but one day when I was a young boy on holiday ... I was walking along the bank of a stream when I saw a mother otter with her cubs. A very endearing sight, I am sure you will agree, and even as I watched, the mother otter divd into the water and came up with a plump salmon, which she subdued and dragged on to a half-submerged log. As she ate it, while of course it was still alive, the body split and I remember to this day the sweet pinkness of its roes as they spilled out, much to the delight of the baby otters who scrambled over themselves to feed on the delicacy. One of nature's wonders, gentlemen: mother and children dining on mother and children. And that's when I first learned about evil. It is built into the very nature of the universe. Every world spins in pain. If there is any kind of supreme being, I told myself, it is up to all of us to become his moral superior'.
