Worst prank EVER

So I broke a wheel off my lawnmower, no big deal, just weld it back on. How was I supposed to know that a wooden stump would break it? Anyways, since i have a shitty flux core mig welder from Harbor Freight, I decided I'd ask a friend to use their gas mig to fix it. I bring the lawn mower over, bring the welder outside, clamp the wheel bracket back on, and start the weld. All of a sudden, there's a huge ball of fire all over my mask. I immediately stop welding, and jump backwards.. yelling out, while he sits there on the ground laughing. He switched the argon with acetylene, at 10psi. Not cool. It was hilarious, but not cool.

What fun project can I do with around 300 Liconix high powered laser lenses Collimator ,optic lenses, Optic Filter..etc

Old Neighbor of mine was a Senior Laser Technician for Liconix about 10-15 years ago probably still works there. Anyhow he always would always be working on lasers Argon, Helium, Krypton, and his classic cars and overtime his family became sort of family to me. I would watch in awe as he worked trying to learn as much as possible. So I would help him work on his cars or Fix a PC for him here and there or take care of his son. I was only 13 at the time, but he was nice enough to give me a couple lasers for helping that his work was going to discard, some helium, Argon. I had to give the Argon back though because he sold his house and was moving to a better neighborhood. Plus it kept blowing the fuses in my parents'house from the power load. PGE was getting angry cause for some reason the street light sensors in my neighborhood were somehow getting burned out all the time *shrug* I don't know how and had to keep repairing them. Before he left he gave me some extra tubes for when my others eventually died. Most helium and tons of lenses of various sizes which are all tucked away in a box. In my dad's Garage of Death yeah he's a pack rat. But I found a couple of the lenses when I came to visit that I had sitting around the house and thought to myself time to dig the box out, so I'm slowly digging my way to it. Just don't know what fun project to do with all of it other than making a Laser Beam of doom or putting them on Sharks with fricken laser beams attached to their heads I also have a Fresnel lens from a 45 inch rear projection TV. Any Idea what fun project I should make with all of it ? I bet it would make one hell of a laser pointer for my Celestron GPS-GOTO C11 Telescope haha.Thanks for any idea's.

Does any one know how to make or where to get a Argon Fluoride discharge pumped excimer laser or a laser with a 193nm output? I do believe that they are used in dentistry.

Will low e windows effect plant growth in a greenhouse?

I have a bunch of low e, argon filled double pane windows that I want to build a greenhouse with. Will the plants inside the greenhouse be adversely effected by this type of glass? I am not a "sciency" type - please advise me.

What is the specific pressure of a liquid called?

I am more specifically referring to shielding gas for welding, C25 (which is 75% argon, 25% carbon dioxide). How do I find out what pressure the gas will be at a given temperature? This is, of course, assuming that the gas is liquefied and contained. If I left something out (because I don't know a lot about this particular conundrum) tell me, I'll comment back.

PLEASE! At school today, this word came up. I know I have heard it before, but can't remember where, or what it means.Of course, i don't know the spelling...It sounds like DEL-FWAY-GOMaybee spelled like...Delfuaygo, Delfwaygo, Delfaygo, Delaflaygo.Anybody heard of this? welding cast iron to mild steel

Welding cast iron to mild steel is for the most part done with ornamental iron such as gates and fences. the ornaments are typicaly cast iron such as spearpoints and fit over the top of what ever square tubing size ect you are working with. If you weld say with a mig welder in the normal mannor you rweld will cold roll and ball on you leaving a poor appearance that you will have to spend time grinding to make look good. Fortunatly it is not a matter of strenght or how much penetration ect. It is just ornamentation but must look good. Now take your mig welder with say 035 wire and use pure argon..(less spatter). Turn your welders heat up somewhat past what your normanl setting would be for what ever thickness you are using. Use breif spot welding like techniques overlapping as needed. You will find that this makes a good wash bead with no undercut or cold roll. The argon gas helps to keep down all the extra spatter welding cast iron to mild steel seems to cause. Larger peices such as caps for say 4by4 gate posts or fence posts, i preheat as uniformely as possibly to just under cherry red then weld as described. It welds badly because cast iron is actualy dirty, literaly with particles of dirt in the cheap castings, wich the ornaments are. Not haviong the need to be anealed or nodular for instance. If the welds are not going to show then you dont have to do this. It will still weld, just do not expect the clean perfect welds you are used to.  And NO I do not have PICS AND I dont own a digital camera nor do i know how to use one let alone put them on a computer.

what would it take to make a co2 laser from scratch?

I think I have the basic concept, you take a full mirror and a one sided mirror, put them between a tube, pump in 10% co2 gas 5% argon or something inert, charge it with a neon transformer and a few welder's sticks for the anode and cathode respectively, then most of what comes out the one sided mirror should be laser emissions. I know I'm missing something though... any suggestions? I'm not worried about refining the beam into something that could: cut metal, make holes, be a nuisance to my neighbors, I just want a multi-watt laser in my barn that I could use to start my wood stove at the press of a comically big button.

SST plasma tube

I am in the process of creating a plasma tube, similar to those globes but made from an acrylic tube of about 80cm lenght. In my small scale experimets with a glass bottle instead of the tube I was able to find a way to mix some Argon gas into the vacuum to create the type of plama arc I want. Problem is the HV part for the much longer tube and how to keep the input voltage at 12v to be electrically save. To drive the switching part of the HV section a simple quare wave generator with adjustable frequency and pulse width is used. In my current design I use 5V for the driver and 12V for a TIP122 that drives a modified flyback transformer directly. Now to specify my problem: The TIP is good for 100V and up to 5A with proper cooling. But I would need to make a new HV coil capable of delivering around 80kV at 12-30kHz - that is the easy but time consuming part. The primary side would have quite some inductance and I fear the TIP122 would soon get into trouble. So I was thinking of using a IRF260 mosfet instead but they need a proper gate driver for high and accurate switching speeds. To further seperate the driver from the hot action I thought of using a LED on the driver side connected by a fibre optics cable to the Mosfet driver. Would it be feasable to use good a transistor to drive the gate of the Mosfet directly or is a gate transformer the better option? Are there any shematics available for a gate driver that uses an optical input? And yes, of course I will make an Instructable if I ever get it all working to my satisfaction.
