I wanted to know who your guys' favorite authors are. My favorite author would have to be Robert Cormier(until further notice). Plus I like what I have read of Dean Koontz and Stephen King, but I think everybody does, and I like Robert Louis Stevenson.

Hello, I'm working on an Instructable (aren't we all?), and was wondering: with a standard membership, can you add multiple authors to an Instructable? This would be very helpful, especially because my brother was the taste tester for this recipe, and he helped me with it. Thanks! Jason

Hi everybody! Me and Lindarose92 are creating an unofficial Facebook Group for Italian Authors! After I've published my Understanding Italian Gestures ible, I found that there are a lot of users and authors from Italy on this magical website! So, we create this page in order to share ideas, comments and news about our hobbies! Here's the link, if you are Italian and you are on Instructalbes, come and join us! ^^ https://www.facebook.com/groups/712367995475463/

I had an idea... You know how YouTube allows you to subscribe to a "channel" (an account)? Perhaps we should have that for our authors, or Ibl'ers or whatever we call ourselves. The Ibles Robot may be a bit busy, but his girlfriend/secretary might be willing to PM me whenever whoever I've subscribed to posts something new. Kiteman had a good point: Make Groups subscribe-to-able Just a thought.

Do people who have the authority to "feature" things, able to "feature" all of their stuff? Or are they only allowed to "feature" projects besides theirs?

We recently began a new round of author spotlight interviews. For the first interview, we chose to reach out and chat with Nikus, who recently won the grand prize in this year's Epilog Contest. You can check out our interview here: Author Spotlight: NikusThese interviews are a great way to learn a little more about individual contributing authors here on Instructables, and see what makes them tick! Is there someone who is an active author that you'd be interested in learning more about? Now's your chance to nominate a fellow author. There are no set requirements to be eligible to be nominated. But generally, we're looking for authors who've shared a good handful of high-quality projects, which made a notable splash within the Instructables community. And yes, if you're feeling bold, you may certainly nominate yourself! : )

I am refering here: https://www.instructables.com/community/First-Time...The previous answers in the post are quite confusing. What are the criteria to be a first-time author in a contest which gives a special prize to first-time author instructable?

I have noticed that the author's names are not attatched to the posts anymore, i.e. -"My Post" By:Tinker83- in the intro. is this going to be a permanent fixture or is it something temporary? it's not a huge problem, but its kind of nice to just look up and see who wrote it.

Dear Instructables Management, There is an all too common phenomenon of authors who publish their projects and then NEVER reply back to enquirers. I`ve sent a message to https://www.instructables.com/member/palladias/ without any reply from her. I need to understand something from her project. So how do I solve this. In another case a person has been waiting for 10 (TEN) MONTHS and still no reply. https://www.instructables.com/member/cvscrules/ It just seems to me that authors are looking for the limelight and then disappear. NOT ACCEPTABLE. Regards, HendrikB7

Hello! I recently had the joy of interviewing Shazni. As a long time author she had a lot of interesting answers and I highly recommend reading the interview. But if you have any more questions that you would like Shazni to answer, here's the place to do it! Seriously how could not want to know more about the person that won that many instructables t-shirts!

I'm happy to see the ladies on the front page and their work is fantastic, but I'm on the site every day and it seems that 75% of the time I am seeing giannyl (published in March) and 25% of the time jessyratfink (published in May). I haven't see the April dude on the front page once. Did you have a "Sexy Bunny vs. Guy Who Dresses Very French" focus group? How exactly it this rotation determined and why does it rotate back to one person? Is it based on views? Regardless, perhaps it could be changed up a bit to allow other authors some front page time? And just a quick aside on the 50s era wording "much more than a pretty face"...Will you please continue to reference how authors look in future features? I would love to see "For a handsome dude, this guy sure knows a lot of math!" or "This moderately attractive author has created some gorgeous pieces" or even "At least his soldering iron is hot."

There used to a "author box"(with the name of the author, date published, etc), on forum topics and questions. What happened to it, it's kind of annoying, because every time I want to see who the author is, it isn't there. Does anyone else fine this annoying? P.S. sorry if someone else already made a topic on this, I looked and couldn't fine any. AI

I'm not sure how many people out there enjoy reading but I sure do. I'm also always curious as to what kind of books other people enjoy. So I'm going to be you all what is your favorite 20th century author and book. This does not mean an author born in the 20th century, but rather one that has published a book in said century. If any of you are wondering what mine are then I'd say my favorite author is John Stienbeck, and my favorite book would be Brave New World By Aldous Huxley.

I like the instructables here. They are good. But the most useful food instructions I have seen are from Mark Bittman of the NYT His column was called the Minimalist and they are on youtube Here is an example, fresh pea soup. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTUVTqWc_Vc

This is a feature request to allow authors to add info/warning badges to their instructables. As an example 1. These would be icons that appear at say top left of an ible, like you have the medals on top right. 2. An author could add a maximum of three badges. 3. These would be selectable from a predefined set provided by your site. i.e. no custom badges. 4. Viewers could then also filter search results based on these badges as well. 5. Examples of badges would be things like a. Indicate if special tools have been used or not used e.g. laser cutters, 3D printers, rotary tools, CNC etc. not every user has these. b. Warn users about materials used e.g. dangerous chemicals (flamable, toxic, corrosive), radiation hazard, special protective gear required e.g. gas masks, this is over and above normal safety precautions. c. warn about age inappropriate content e.g. adult only or adult supervision required. Depending on user response/requests the collection of badges could be reviewed and enhanced. Regards,

Why can't Instructables do away with the "removed by author or blah blah blah" thing. It just clutters things up, and doesn't really serve a purpose. If instructables wants the person that made the comment to know it was removed, email them. Any time we have to remove something that can't be edited, it leaves behind this garbage. Before, there was a set rhyme and reason to deleting posts and not having that happen (bottoms up!), but recently I created a post which was the first reply to the first comment in my $1 security hardware instructable, and noticed a glaring error in it and IMMEDIATELY deleted it (because there was no EDIT function) and it left one of these steaming piles of Yak poo in the comment thread. PLEASE - GET RID OF THESE ANNOYANCES! Win7 Ultimate Google Chrome Version 32.0.1700.19 beta-m Aura $1 PC Hardware Security Power Lockout deleting reply

Hello, Is there a way to put images in the middle of text in a instructable step? I seem to only be able to put the images at the top. That's not very useful. There's no way to drag and drop an image where you want it. There also doesn't seem to be any html tag option - it seems Instructable go rid of that button, although I see Instructables from people that tell are using that button. What's going on? Thanks, Eric

What should a basic generalist workshop contain? Say you were starting your workshop from scratch and, knowing what you do now, had to purchase new items to kit out the space. What would you avoid? What would you insist upon? I'm looking more for general philosophies of tool-buying than outright brand names, but I'll entertain the notion of brand fidelity as a heuristic for purchasing trustworthy tools. I intend to use the answers given here to help purchase prizes for upcoming contests.

If you don't live in the US, Canada-minus-Quebec, US, UK, Australia, Belgium, Canada (excluding Quebec), China, Colombia, Denmark, Germany, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, or Switzerland, (keep an eye on THIS PAGE for updates) and have been bummed that we can't yet open contests for your country, I've got some great news for you! We're going to give you gifts! Here's how it works. Editors' Pick gifts Our editors will scan the site for particularly excellent Instructables from international authors. This way we can tell you we think your project is awesome, even if you don't get a ton of pageviews within the first month. The number of editors' picks gifts will vary every month, depending on the number of amazing international projects we see. The legal reasoning: while there are all sorts of stringent and varied laws governing contests around the world, the lawyers say we can send you non-contest-related gifts without fear of fines and imprisonment. Thus, while we're waiting for the lawyers to figure out the wacky legal details for each country, we're identifying the most popular projects each month and sending along a thank-you gift. Which is a gift, NOT a prize. Ahem. We desperately want to be able open contests up to the entire world, and are working as fast as we can to make it happen. (See Eric's post here.) I realize this isn't the same as being able to enter contests, but this is our attempt to make the wait a bit more pleasant, and let you guys know you're top on our minds.

Hello! I recently had the joy of interviewing watchmeflyy. Connie Yu was interviewed quite awhile ago, but her interview went missing for a time when the featured author interviews stopped. Since we've changed up the format a little, I wanted to share some of her answers that didn't make it into the interview. If you have any more questions that you would like watchmeflyy to answer, here's the place to do it! Where are you from? Do you feel like your home affects how you work or what you create? I was born and raised in the west side San Francisco, a 10 minute jog from the Pacific Ocean, but my parents trace their roots back to Guangdong province in China. Growing up in a low-income family of immigrants, I couldn't just ask for model plane kits or other toys that my peers flaunted; I had to come up with my own toys and use what I had to entertain myself, my way. This developed my resourcefulness and creativity early on, so I'm glad not to have been born with a silver spoon in my mouth. As for what I create, that mainly just depends on my mood. The quote "Necessity is the mother of invention" usually applies, as I make whatever I refuse to buy. You do such lovely work with wire; what is about that medium that you love? I love how wire can be so flexible yet so sturdy at the same time. Unlike paper, wire creations are generally more durable and harder to crush. It also lacks the problem of having excess sticking out; excess wire can be cut off, whereas excess paper must be tucked in somehow (no cutting in origami...). These added benefits over paper give wire more versatility, as I feel less limited in the creations that I can make. Your pop culture oriented (geek) projects are such fun. What draws you create such projects? Those geeky projects help me enter the worlds that I explore through books and movies. While I don't participate in cosplay, I do enjoy bringing little parts of the stories to life, and it's so much more fun when you have your own tale of how you created. For example, if you check out my Simple Suspended Shelf project, you can see pictures of a ceramic Haku from Spirited Away that I made in ceramics class – a tale of perseverance that I recount in exhaustive detail when anyone asks about the awesome dragon in my room. I also like my geeky projects because I can attach a special meaning to them as a continual reminder to myself. My wire Masamune from "FFX: Auron's Masamune" serves as a continual reminder of Auron's strength and determination to inspire my own, and my Aperture tank top from Portal: Chell's Tank Top (which I wear to sleep next to the plush Companion Cube that my mom and I made, of course) reminds me that if Chell could survive trial after trial, so can I.
