Yes, I know that the TR is the turret rifle and the BR is the battle rifle, but is there a fundamental difference between the 2, or is it all just preference as to the name?

Is there an optimal internal temperature that bread should have to be neither underbaked nor overbaked? I saw a bread recipe recently which called for the use of a precision thermometer to take the bread's temp, but I haven't seen any other recipe suggesting this.

Anyone have a good/inexpensive source for small braided nylon, 1.4mm or similar? I am learning to make nets and can't find a source for decent small cord close to me and the cord that I do have is really slick and a beast to try to work with.

Hey Instructables, We're StudentRND, a group of students in Seattle, WA that build cool stuff over the summer. We've taken our time over the summer to build a plasma speaker, and now are offering kits on Kickstarter! (As seen on TechCrunch and Physorg) What's a plasma speaker? It uses an electric arc to vibrate the air to play music! View the Kit
hey guys, im looking to build a IR triggered LED strobe. in the smallest possible size i can. it doesnt have to be from scratch so if anyone knows of a cheap trigger on a toy i could use that would be great. im looking to build an IR triggered strobe for an airsoft gun i have. the idea is to strobe an led (most likely a UV LED) every time an airsoft pellet trips the trigger. these pellets are glow in the dark so in essence i will be making my own homemade airsoft tracer system. these units are about $70 so if i could do this for free or much cheaper i would be thrilled. i know there are things out there i can use but im drawing a blank right now. i have makers block or something. here are a couple links to YouTube vids that explain the concept and more along the lines of what it should be like. at about 1:50 in the top video theres is a good demonstration on its workings.

any part suggestions or ideas would be awesome.

Meh, I was on a building spree and kept morphing a gun until I eventually came to this. After I was all done, I finally realized that I pretty much wasted my time because I accomplished nothing. Meh, it's a cool and different gun nonetheless, but it's nothing to get hyped over either. I was bored so I made a video for it anyways seeing how I haven't done that in a while. Enjoy. <br>

This week we looked at the top 50 Commenters of 2008 and the top 50 Instructables of 2008. Today we're going to be looking at what times Instructables are published. To break this down, we're looking at the data in three different ways. The first shows, on average, how many Instructables are published for each day of the week in 2008. The second shows the totals for each month of 2008. Finally, we break it down for each of the 52 weeks (minus the last 2 days) of 2008.Check it out.Instructables by day of the weekInstructables by monthInstructables by week

I'm gonna be doing a knex war log every week till 2010 so here it is. 9/27/09 It's terrible. The world has gone to war. Every boy 10-20 has been called to war. The battle between KI and Instructables has gone too far. Forum topics have been flooded with hate comments and spam. They took it too far. Now everybody who builds knex guns has taken over the company and stole all the knex they could find. There isn't a knexer out there who has less than 100 guns. I myself have 134. We all have our own vehicles to hide our weapons and transport. 9/28/09 Here i was, at the front line. 2 sidearms, a rifle and sniper. I couldn't believe the difference of age and size of the army of KI. Then a FIRE was shouted and plastic rained out of the sky. I myself had a BR-18 and brutally emptied it on the enemy. I hit 12 guys and knocked them out. Now knex guns aren't harmful but we molded our knex and made them metal so they could pack a punch. And we added carefully made rubber bands specificly so powerful that you could break a bone. That was the objective. The war continued till we called in the SR-V2 men. They surrenderd as soon as never. They kept on the fire. Now, with a BR-18 that could break bones, a SR-V2 was especially feared. To be continued...

When using Firefox to browse the list of contests the majority are showing as "0 days left" to enter, even though the contests are still open. I can only re-create the problem when using the Firefox browser (v54.0.1), Chrome and Internet Explorer behave as expected. I have completely reset my browser (including cookies, history, cache etc.) but the problem persists. If I open a contest page the description shows "Only 0 s left to enter the...." , however the "Enter Now" button is available and appears to work as expected.

Alright so check this out, we didn't post it under the instructibles section since we dont own the video we found it on youtube, but seriously this guy has figured out a way to stop cats from pissing on his stuff. It's amazing and worth the time. Check out his youtube channel, I hope that some day he comes to Instructables and gives us some entertaining videos. He was so good that he is now sponsored on our site at HM-Innovations.com and thats something that we normally don't do. <br>

Just moved into a 60's home. The electrical system has some "unique" aspects. Everything works and the building inspector didn't find any glitches but the main panel wasn't labeled. I spent a day tracing out most of the circuits. I ended up with two 110V circuits that don't seem to power anything in the house. ( hey that is better than the 3 110V and 2 240V unknown circuits that i started out with! ) I have accounted for things like outside lights and outlets, attic fan and lights, extra outlets in the garage, and a line out to a shed. The breakers are wired and "on". So can I trace these circuits from the main panel to where ever they end up?

I've been wanting to build a Stargate helmet for a very long time but there was no way I could spend the cash to sculpt one in clay and do a fiberglass casting in a silicone mold so I had to improvise by using cardstock, paper mache and foam. I really wasn't going for screen accuracy as this is intended to be a costume helmet instead of an accurate replica. When I set out to build this I wanted it to be light weight, low cost and most importantly I wanted it to move. I still have quite a bit of work left to do- I still need to add the glowing eyes and do some filling, sanding and detail work plus paint. Watching it move for the first time was just awesome. :) <br>

Kid tripped over HP laptop AC cord and snapped the DC jack inside. I can't afford $$$ to send off to repair, taking apart & soldering is too much involvement for a 5-year-old 40 gig hard drive laptop. But doesn't anyone sell a charger that I could pull out the battery and charge it up and then re-install it, maybe have two and switch them in and out? laptop would be OK for Grandma, so I hate to throw it away. Right now it is dead, no way to charge it and the AC won't work since the DC jack is broken. Any ideas?

Folks, I've searched and searched. But wouldn't it be nice to be able to put a movie in to your Blu Ray player and stream it via either WiFi or Bluetooth TO your tablet. I'd like to be able to do this as tablets generally don't have HDMI jacks and if they do it's only to stream content FROM the tablet. I'd like to be able to sit in my recliner and watch a movie on a DVD or BR I already own, while my wife watches something else. Developers take note; I contacted the WiFi alliance and spoke to a fellow there who hadn't even thought of the idea. If someone comes up with an application and/or a device that would make this possible they could make some serious income patenting it. Just give me a free unit to evaluate if you do :).

Setting Baudrate Successful! MCP2515 Initialized Successfully! MCP2515 Library Receive Example... [/quote] I think everything should be fine. But I didn't see any canbus message there. Which steps do I have to take, to see any message on the CAN Bus. Whats the setting for can bus communication (baud rate, oscillator mhz...)? Thanks in advance BR, Julian

OSIM uSqueez permanently dead. Dismantled unit found mother board 2A fuse blown. Check everything OK on mother board and replace fuse. Power on unit led under stop button light up. Pressed vibrator button works perfect. Pressed massage button strong sparking sound and saw fire in one to two second followed by blown fuse. 1. Measure the motor terminal resistance -> 0 ~ 5 ohms. Or it should should have some high resistance approximately 10 ~ 50 ohms. 2. Measure BR-B3D thermal protector which was in series with the black wire -> 0 ~ 5 ohms. Any idea which one is faulty part? 1. Think the thermal fuse is OK. 2. If the motor short, shall I do rewinding for rotor? Can't found this motor locally and if buy direct from OSIM too expensive! Any idea measure rotor coil? Thanks

My place of employment is currently trying to clean out a warehouse full of stuff they don't use, and I've been given permission to have a yard sale! I thought some of it could be used by the Instructables community to craft something amazing. First thing up for grabs is lots of (mostly) steel wire. Price is negotiable. Make me an offer or it gets dumped in the recycle bin in a few weeks. I have lots of different stuff to get rid of some of the more useful stuff might appear here (I got some aluminum squares of various sizes that could go). email firstname.lastname@example.org or PM here. Sorry, i forgot last weeks. 10/18/09 The KI army has gotten fiercer. A lot fiercer. They are building MASS amounts of guns. They hire outsiders such as people who never heard of K'NEX guns, but heard of K'NEX. I think it is because they have such a small army. I have switched my BR-18 to a BR8 because i needed a lighter gun. I just carry a bunch of ammo around. My current weapons are: BR8 Oodassault V3.3 T.B.O.S O.S.S.R I've got a pouch of ammo for each. My vehicle for transporting and gun storage has broke down. I called a repairman to fix it a hour ago. It should've taken 10 minutes. 10/19/09 The IN army woke up to a attack on our camp. Everybody grabbed all the ammo and thier best guns and got out and fought. I was truely fierce. The medic team was all out and, suprsingly, a lot of people got bandages and started recovering. As for the KI army, Thier medid slacked out, so thier still are people limping off the field.

Well I have Good DJ Heaphones but I could want to create a custom one like ones of Equestria Girls Vinyl scratch wears, I have a broken sony headphones and it still packs good quality sound how I can use those in my custom headphones? Here's an image I'm using from the MLP Wiki for reference - what are some good ways to build such headphones to match hers from the movie? I know it's not Beats HD by Dre nor Sol Republic those are not the exect matches. I've look at one instructable from my ipod touch but lack some plastic to use. The Sony Headphones foam pads are so worn out I don't wanna use them! The Headphones are Sony MDR-CD60 headphones with Dynamic Stereo. The headphones are gonna be recycled in some way to have a new life onto them, I just removed the broken beams that holds the headband on them. I tore off a speaker from it's wires I'll conver them to ipod speakers soon.

I don't have windows set up for the net so it was nice to buy a cheap webcam that works right away in linux and skype with my sister and brothers in different parts of the world. It has a focus ring and I tried it with my microscope and prepared slide. And then later with greeny water from plant pots in the back garden. It is actually pretty good. I had to use 2 software programs. I used cheese to open the webcam but it misses frames when it records its own video! I found that opening recordmydesktop and recording the cheese window or cheese area of the desktop solves the problem. I got the microscope second hand in a thrift store. Next step will be to find a pond and grab some really nice samples. I will grab pics of how I set it up in a while, but for now here is a video of a prepared slide, and focusing through it. &amp;lt;br&amp;gt; I did some other videos too with live specimens from the back garden but nothing really exciting. I still have to work on lighting and making the mount a bit more rigid but for a first attempt it is pretty good. Brian

As any one who has looked at my instructables knows whilst a school teacher I built a full sized electric racing car.https://www.instructables.com/id/Building-an-elect...This had a 250 watt DC motor over run to 500 watts - 20 amps at 24 volts .It was capable of running the car up to 25 - 30 MPH and using 2 car batteries drive for a couple of hours on the flat.Nowadays electric vehicles are all the rage. Looking at a few motores as small as 4000 watts are in use for city use where high speed isn't necessary. Now the question:https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-c580l-580kv-br...This motor intended for model cars is rated at 4000 watts RPM 26,100 100 amps at 45 volts. that's about 5.5 Hp.Suitably gears down could such a motor be a power unit for a light weight electric vehicle. The DC motor I used was, by comparison, huge and weighty. It seems to me that HP is HP and 5.5. Hp is plenty for what I have in mind.My concerns as always is I see no other commercial manufacture doing this - or anyone else for that matter, only electric bikes use small motors. There has to be a reason I am not catching.Experts out there you opinion please.

&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;br /&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt; [BCITSA YouTube Chanel] Recently, the BCIT Student Association (BCITSA) hosted a 2-day 'Float Your Boat' competition for the Marine Engineering Students at the Marine Campus in North Vancouver. Contestants were supplied with ‘surprise’ materials to construct their vessels with; materials included plastic garbage bags, popsicle sticks, bamboo skewers, aluminum foil, string, plastic party cups and tape. Teams of 2-3 were given an hour to become acquainted with the surprise materials, then design and construct a sea-worthy vessel. Boats were then raced in heats on the indoor pool, using human-powered fans for wind, to determine who had the fastest time. Prizes were awarded for: Fastest Boat, Most Creative Team and Best Overall Design, all donated by local businesses. I attended just to check out the scene, but the event was also covered by local news media and has since been broadcast on stations in Metro Vancouver, as well as printed publications. Pretty awesome for a low-budget student association! And there's more, the BCITSA has a history of hosting awesome events for students, such as: 3rd Annual Flying Extravaganza, where students at the Aerospace Campus in Richmond, BC "construct planes from everyday office supplies, with the winners chosen based on the distance they can safely land their lego pilots. Additional prizes go to those with best design and best crash." CTV News coverage (youtube video) Engineering Week, hosted at the BCIT Main Campus in Burnaby, BC, where electronic, mechanical and civil engineers compete in tower building, catapult destruction and racing CO2 powered cars, all made from everyday office supplies. As well as the competition Engineering Students brought along projects they have been working on to share with their fellow students, there was even a real live Angry Birds game being played. CityTV News coverage (youtube video) Facebook photos Aside from a much needed break from studies, challenges like these put on by the BCITSA pushes students use creative solutions learned in class with hands-on problem solving, turning academics into tangible results.

Hi all, This is my first "big" Arduino project and my first fritzing, so please bear with me. :-) Goal: - Build the cheapest possible car alarm system with a loud siren - It should be possible to activate/deactivate the alarm with a remote control. - The alarm will once activated, sense any motion in the car (if someone breaks a window and tries to steal anything) and set of the alarm. - The system should not drain the car battery so it should draw a minimum of power. I've managed to build the first few things, but some vital steps are still needed and I hope you can help me sort these out. Components used so far: Arduino Pro Mini - TIP122 transistor - 2.2KOhm resistor - 1N4002 diode - Mini piezo siren (I used a 107dB siren with an operating voltage of 6-15Vdc and current consumption of 140mA) - Breadboard - Lots of wires I'm currently waiting for my PIR sensor to arrive together with the RF receiver/transmitter module, so for now I've added a basic switch to act as the PIR sensor and another for the RF module (activate/deactivate). The components I'm waiting for are: - An RF module that I need to order once i find the right one. - http://www.ebay.com/itm/261041100836?_trksid=p2060... Questions that still remain and that I hope you can help me with: 1. The arduino should be powered by the cars 12V battery, however I've read that the car battery must be regulated as it delivers anywhere from 12 - 16V. I could connect it directly to RAW but in case the battery peaks above 16V i risk damaging the Arduino. I'm very unsure as to how I do this regulating best? One option could be to buy a "DC-DC step down converter - 4-35Vdc > 1,23-30Vdc" and set it to 5V, but maybe a more simple and/or cheaper solution exists? 2. Since the power consumption should be kept to a minimum, I plan to add the RF before the step down converter so the powering of the regulator (step down converter?) only happens if the alarm is activated from the remote. First question is: can I use a TIP120 for this and simply connect the RF to base, and the regulator to the collector? Second: In this case, the Arduino will be powered off the hard way by cutting power when deactivating the alarm from the remote - can the arduino take that in the long run? and finally, the RF receiver needs to get its power from somewhere, so what can I do here - is the best thing to use a 12V RF module instead of the Arduino 5V RF module or can this be solved some other way? 3. Any good ideas for minimizing power consumption? 4. Anything I can do to further improve the design? :-) I'll update this post as I progress with the project including a more detailed step guide to how to implement this and the source code I'm using. Instructables arduino posts and commets have helped me a lot during over the past few weeks working with Arduino so I hope you can help me reach the finish line with this project. Br. Jakob

The Mapping Festival is an international cultural event dedicated to VJing and its neighbouring disciplines, that is to say audiovisual art in the broadest sense of the word. Created in 2005, the Mapping Festival is already in its eighth edition. Year after year, it continues to attract a broader public and to put an emphasis on the most forefront artists while introducing their work and creations built of all kinds of new and innovative technologies. --- You’ve asked for it on Facebook, you’ve desperately looked for it on our website, you’ve even tried to rob us information on Twitter, but there was nothing to do about it, we’ve kept the secret until the very last minute.
