Help! I am way into BASIC. Lately, I have been wanting to make a little DIY pocket computer with a basic gray scale screen and nav buttons that can run simple BASIC programs uploaded from my computer. I looked around Google to find somewhere to start, and found out that no one has ever attempted building such a thing before. One site suggested that I should look at mobile motherboards by TI and Atmel. However, when I arrived at the websites, I found a bunch of complex, expensive boards that have unnecessary fetures such as WiFi and touch. I need some help on what hardware configuration to use (aka mobile motherboard, chip set). Help!

Is there a website to learn about how to use picmicro's really easily? I realize that there are some instructables about it, but to be honest they arn't very helpful. For example, I have no clue what the crystal does, why you need it, how to hook it up, and how much voltage they need because I need to buy some.

I probably know more about sewing as far as hands on, visual stuff, but lack vocabulary. As such, a verbal, or wordy description doesn't help me much. Is there a good site for novices to learn more? Or are there specific -ibles for those of us who don't know a ball point needle from an inseam?

I am a beginner to the Arduino field can you please help me with these questions ? How many smartphones can communicate with a single Arduino at a time? How many Arduino a single smartphone can communicate with at a time? How many devices such as AC TV and lights can be connected to a single Arduino? Is voice/noise isolation room affects Bluetooth transmission (if my phone connected to the Arduino using bluetooth)? In case of smartphone outside the room containing the Arduino. please if you have any references or links that might help with understanding the main concepts please help..

I am making a box that when opened will sound an alarm. When it is closed, the contacts are touching, thus completing the circuit. When the box is open they are not touching. How can I make a circuit that will realize when theyre not touching(without using an Arduino or other programmer)???

Hello all! I'm beginning down the route of hobbyist electronics. As to basic safety precautions I'm really quite unsure. I know inside many electronics parts and devices (For example, a TV one would strip for parts,) there are many nasty chemicals. I don't want to get lead poisoning or any other sickness. If you could point out some safety precautions, I would be incredibly grateful (Ex. Always wear gloves, wear a mask when soldering, when stripping a TV...., etc.). Thanks for your time and help!

Hello instructable forum. I had a qick question about a project I'm thinking of doing. So I wanted to make a poker table. I know how I'm going to do that, but I wanted to make a built-in dealer chip. So I was planning to put 8 LEDs (One for each station/person) And at one station there would be an Push button. I want one LED to be lit up at a time, and when the button is pushed, I want the power to transfer to the LED to the right of where it previously was. Again: I only want ONE LED to by lit at a time. I'll include a basic pitcure for a visual. I think I'll need a demultiplexer and a counter, but not too sure how to use them. thanks, Jusstice

Hi there I have an idea in mind and would like to know if you guys think it would be possible to make. The object is for the battery to last a minimum of 150 hours of constant use. I want to use the smallest possible LED say 2mm or even a SMD will be sufficient, the led must run off a very small battery either a LR44 / CR1225 or something similar in size and the design must have an on off switch. Do you have any suggestions? Is this even possible? Any ides? Thanks Matt

Hi guys, recently I thought that what if i make an rc car that charges while I use it outside in the sun, that way I can use it as much as I want (outside in the sun) and I wont need to charge it. I have attached a picture showing the wiring, but I have a few questions. Q1. Will it work?? Q2. If it does than what will happen when im not using it and the solar panel uses the light in my room and overcharges the battery resulting in it catching on fire? Q3. Would it be better if i replace the car battery with rechargable cells? Help with be greatly appreciated :) Oh and don't mind my grammar, its not very good hehe UPDATE changed diagram, will this work?

Hey Guys, Today I made one of the simplest circuit I have ever made, its literally two motors in parallel with a switch. The problem is it didn't work :( (embarrassing). I don't know what I did wrong. When i flip the switch the motors just spins for 1 microcentimetre then stops. I even attached an led to the terminals of the motor it just blinks once then turns off till i flip the switch again. Anyway wiring and demonstration is in the pictures, videos provided. Here are somethings to note: 1. The motors were working perfectly before i made the circuit. 2. The battery (may) be half used. 3. The glue used to attach them to the base (styrofoam) is hot glue, so I had to be verryyyy careful to not melt itithe base). 4. I cant take it apart since its attached to the base and the base will break and using glue with styrofoam wasnt easy so I dont want to do it again. 5. I have tried even by moving the motors a bit away so that they dont touch, still doesnt work. 6. If I leave it on for say a minute the battery gets slightly warm to the touch. 7. I cant find any short in the circuit.

So... before I start... I am not a physicist, nor am I an electrical engineer. Hopefully someone within one of those (or both) professions will chime in and enrich this discussion. That said... I'm going to be using leyman's terms. This thread is specifically meant to explain how a brushless DC electric motor exerts a force, and how that force is used to generate work. To start off, I'd Like to explain the components which comprise a brushless DC motor: First... You have an axil. The axil's purpose is to spin. Next you have natural magnets, or solid state magnet; I use the terms somewhat incorrectly, since a natural magnet refers specifically to nickel or ferrous base magnets, but there exist a large variety of compounds and composites that exhibit the ability to produce magnetic fields. In practice you have many in a motor, but for our purposes... we can pretend we have one. The natural magnet's job is exert a magnetic field while attached to the axil. After that we have an electrical coil. Once again, in Brushless DC motors, we have many of these, but for our purposes we'll use 3. The electrical coil's job is to produce a magnetic field which can move in a circle. Finally we have the engine housing. The purpose of the engine housing is to hold everything together. Note: I'm intentionally leaving out the computer control mechanism. there are alot of great instructables on microcontrollers. Most Brushless DC motors requrie one to work since there is no mechanical timing device, as there is in a brushed engine. So... how does this fit together? In this setup the natural magnet produces a force when next to the electrical coil (This coil is also known as an electromagnet). This is because the charge of the coil is opposite to the charge of the natural magnet. Once the Natural magnet and the electromagnetic coil align with each other, the first coil shuts off and the second turns on. Once again the natural magnet is drawn towards the magnetic pole. This process repeats until the natural magnet has spun in a circle (note: usually you want it to continue to spin beyond a single revolution.) That's the basic (very basic) idea behind a Brushless DC Motor.

Hello everyone i'll try to keep this short and sweet. In my next project I will be re-Building a trolling motor. The trolling motor runs on a 12 volt battery, and draws between 5 to 30 amps. The problem I have is that the control unit/head of the trolling motor is destroyed. In other words all i have at this point is a 12 volt motor connected directly to a 12 volt battery. The trolling motor is very powerful and I don't want to run it full power all the time. This made me look for a 30 amp dimmer switch, just like the ones people have in their homes. With no results I don't know what to do. I am thinking about using a 600 watt AC dimmer switch like the ones in peoples homes, but I don't know if it will work with a DC circut like the one I have. I would like to learn old school BASIC. The parallax basic stamp uses it's own version of it called PBASIC. I have not found any current books that will teach you a foundation to build on. I looked into programing for the absolute beginner and programming for dummies, both books seem to treat (teach) Basic as an object oriented language and jump into making window with buttons. That's not what I need right now. I want to start BASIC with the basics (forgive the pun), i.e. loops, if then statements and build a foundation . But I really need to start with BASIC so I can get the best use out of my BOE bot. PLEASE DON'T SUGGEST C OR SWITCHING TO A DIFFERENT PIC, I don't have money for that. All the parallax labs are in PBASIC.

I am brand new to leather crafting and just ordered a vintage stamp with 3 other tools. I think i just broke the stamp. It is flat with a hole on the back. I used a hammer on the stamp by itself and the hole looks like the ridge around it is broken. Was I supposed to put something in the hole before hammering?

I'm new to arduino's but not new to programming, more of a novice, so my question is more physical than logical- why does my push button say i've pressed it 4 to 7 times on the serial print, when i've only pressed it once? is my push button broken? and when i hold the push button down, the serial print says i'm pressing it repeatedly?

Ect student @ Devry here trying to put what i am learning to practical use. I reeeelay want to learn arduino it seems very fun and has a wide range of things you can do with it. Other than basics (mm solder eq resisters/leds & tools and such) what are some "must haves". Info like what board to start out with, power supplies i should acquire. Hints tips tricks, places to read would be great. I am somewhat limited on money (father of 7 trying to pay my way.) So i need to be budget minded. I have loved this site for a while and recently upgraded my membership. Some of the projects i see come from this community makes me drool. Ty for reading.

So, I was making this circuit and ran into some problems so I would like it if any one of you could help me. (Schematic attached) Q1. Do you see any basic problem in this circuit? Q2. Will this relay (http://zaymanta.com/media-library/stores/RALEY-6V-10A.jpg) work with 5v? I have tried this before and it works but I was wondering if there will be any problem like flickering, fluctuating or something like that. Q3. Which transistor should I use for this job? Q4. Can you check if the esistor with ldr (and rest) is of the right value? Q5. Can anyone modify this circuit so that the red led turns off when the relay is active and the green turns on (instead of both turning on)? The relay will be used to control 240v. I'm looking for a light that I can place on the floor that would shine onto a projector screen. Something that spins with a spiral display. Either the light itself spins. Or possibly has the ability to place a filter onto a steady light and the filter spins. I'm in a band and i'm looking for something that would be strong enough to show this light display behind the drums as we play. The light and the projector screen would be relatively close to each other.

Hello, If the input to the positive terminal of an op amp is 12V, the input to the negative terminal is 10V, and there is no supply voltage, the output voltage is 2V and the output current is 0. Correct? Now, what I don't understand is what happens to the output voltage and current if I connect a supply voltage of, for example, 15V. I know that the output voltage and current both increase, but I don't know the math behind it. Can someone explain this to me, please?

Anyone know a site that lists what household item contain useful materials to use in various instructables? I'm not explaining it too well but I live in a small town and can't get many of the materials needed to make things like the LED cubes, so I was hoping there was a site that tells where I can find things like LEDs, 100 ohm resistors or momentary button switches in everyday objects. like NiChrome wire in toasters or 330volt capacitors in disposable cameras.

I'm working on a project for Halloween that involves some LEDs, I've got a bunch of old cigar boxes painted up to look like Ghostbusters proton traps and I just want to have red lights on them, preferably blinking. I got an LED assortment at Radio Shack to experiment with. When I put a 9v battery to one I saw a tiny flash and then nothing, so I think I overpowered it. But when I went down to a 1.5v AA battery nothing happens. I'm sure this is stupid-simple, but I've got no experience whatsoever. Any specifics would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

I apologise in advance to all you keen photographers for my Absolute Novice status. I need to take photo's for my Instructables which are usually small-ish desk top items. Currently I am having problems with a dark (black paper) drawing in a glass frame, how do I get the details in the image without it bleaching out or flaring on the glass? I have a spacious work desk under a window, two cantilever lights, a centre room light, etc. I can only use whatever's available in my house because I never take pictures for any other reason. Any tips for a very grateful novice would be very welcome.( I'm a blank slate)

Hi community , i need help to wire my small project and its about a water dispenser, but with the big water bottle(22liters) is on the floor, so there is : a water pump(to pump water to a small tank on the water dispenser or cooler),rocker 3 position switch, floatswitch, electric transformer 220-12v. WHY? a 3 positon switch the pump works on 2 different modes _ the first continuous mod that stops only when the small tank is fully filled ( wired with the floatswitch ) _ the second mode is : just a simple working pump with no stop ( not wired to the floatswitch ) So TAKE A LOOK ON THE ATTACHED PHOTOS PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW TO WIRE THE ROCKER 3 POS SWITCH , And if there is a wiring diagram that will be the best of the best !!! Okay, here's the deal. I want to put this design on the blade of a knife I'm making (the design is the USNA class of 2013 ring crest). Before I can do that I need to have a stencil made of the design so I can etch it on the steel. But, the design is to complicated (all the shadowing and such). So I need to clean it up, get rid of shading, shadows, all that. How would anyone suggest I do that? I gifure I'll have to do some editing in a photo editing program, what program? Hi there, I'm new here and pretty much to DIY in general (except for general repairs) - I'm planning to build a glass dry-wipe board with a simple aluminium T-Frame and need a bit of basic advice. Not knowing the lingo of the trade, its been very hard to find suppliers/information and my research seems to have gone as far as it will ever get, so I figured it was time to ask for some help. I've managed to find a supplier who stocks 25mm square al tubing and was wondering about the best way to construct the frame. My design for the frame is extremely simple - it's just a t-frame with a single crossbar which will run below the pane of glass. I have access to a reasonably well equiped workshop, but unfortunately no welding gear (I hear that al is difficult to weld anyway) which isn't too much of a problem as I would like to be able to deconstruct the frame. I would appreciate any tips which may be useful to a newbie, but mainly I need to know how to fix the al bars at right angles in a non-permanent manner. The desk which I'm sitting at right now has some sort of threaded inserts at the end of each crossbar, allowing it to be bolted a right angles to the frame. I tried googling these inserts, but couldn't find anything which seemed relevant. If anyone could point me in the direction of these inserts or provide an alternative solution, it would be very much appreciated. Thank you

Well... I'm making this battery charger cum level indicator, which should turn off the battery supply when its voltage drops below 10V. Im using an opamp as a comparator to do that. I have been scratching my head for 3 days but cant get this sorted. From what I have been experiencing for years, on an op amp if the potential on the in+ pin is higher than that on the in- pin, then the output pin goes high, else low. Right? Now in this particular case (and the first time in my life) the ic gives 4.xx Volts on the output pin when in+ is higher than in- and 11.xx volts when in- is higher. Vcc is 12V. Im bugged... I have attached the part of the Schematic that shows the IC and its connections. Please have a look. I haven't changed the IC yet, im doing that in a minute anyway. I'll mark this solved if the new IC does the trick. :)

Hey guys. I'm in my final year of school before we all part ways and go to university, and a small group of us had an idea to do an outreach program to local primary schools- British equivalent of Elementary School with grade 7. As part of the program we are aiming to interest these kids in learning sciences and engineering since we could be doing with more people taking these subjects in the academy. So can you guys offer any suggestions as to what we can demonstrate and what activities we can get the kids involved in? We have a few ideas for biology, chemistry and physics but not so many for engineering... Just a little side note, I'm not sure how American schools operate but in Britain we have EXTENSIVE (annoying) health and safety crap and risk assessments if a pupil coughs, so nothing too...
