Blu-ray Player

I have a broken LG BD390 Blu-Ray player, and I don't know what to do with it. I don't want to solder anything, as I have no experience and frankly, it's too much work for me. If you have any ideas, that would be great.

Help with a blu-ray laser

I recently received a true 150mw 405nm burning laser. It came with the diode, a case, and a focus lenses so you can focus up to 30ft burnings. How can i power this safe without destroying it. Just connecting power to it, last i heard, is bad to do. What's the best way to connect this diode? Here's the specs: Diode Package Type: 5.6mm Max Output: ~150mW CW Max Current: ~110mA Lase Threshold: ~31mA Lase Voltage: ~4 volts Operating Voltage: ~5 volts Wavelength: ~407.5nm How to make a circuit to power this?

An interesting dilemma?

Ok, so this is actually pretty interesting. We have a Netflix enabled Blu-Ray player. It connects to our wifi to run the streaming... But we have noticed something weird.... Every time a movie is playing, and the microwave runs- the movie abruptly stops and the player says "The network appears to be down. Retry?". This has happened consistently 4-5 times. So my question- is the microwave radiation enough to cause bumps and glitches in the network? The network is run off a Apple wifi routers, and it should be wireless N (5ghz) Any ideas if this could happen?

Blu ray player not playing DVD?

Hi  everyone. I have a Samsung 5.1ch 3D Blu-ray Home Theatre System - HTE3550. It has worked fine and played dvd, blu ray, and CD with no issues. Recently It stopped playing DVD altogether, even with a brand new DVD. Looking around The only cause that I have heard about online is that the lazer is blown. Has anyone else got any ideas about what might be wrong, I'm stuck. I might give a laser cleaning disk a go.

Help me pick a laptop?

Ok, so I'm getting a laptop and I'm not sure if one exists with what I want but if it doesn't fine I'll wait for it to exist.  The laptop must have a core i7 processor, blu-ray writer, 1920x1080 resolution, an HDTV tuner, and a backlit keyboard.  Here's what I've been looking at: Acer Aspire 8940g, HP dv8t and dv7t, Dell XPS 16.  So I'm just wondering if you can actually buy such a laptop I know Acer has said that they offer all these options but I can't find such a laptop anywhere on the internet.  Thanks for the help! And P.S. I don't want an Alienware laptop.

RGB LED Life Bar, 10 Sections, Individual LED Control, Arduino

Okay, I want to make a "Life Bar" using an arduino controller, 10 RGB leds, and a clear plastic box with ten sections. I'm going to mount this on a wall in my room. Each section will be diffused or frosted and will be 4 x 4 x 4. One RGB LED will in the "back" of the section, with the wiring, coming out of the back of each section. The controller will be to the left side of the total ten sections, with the USB port having easy access. I think I'm going to have one switch to control the modes of the LED and cycle through each mode, which would reset after the lowest "health" of the bar is reached; RED BLINKING >> Press Switch >> FULL HEALTH. I'd like to control each LED individually so I can create a diminishing "Life Bar." Like this: (Colors of the LEDS) OFF = No Color, LED not LIT BLU = Blue AQU = Aqua GRN = Green YEL = Yellow RED = Red REDB = RED Blinking So: Phase One (Full Health. HAHAHAHA I'M INVINCIBLE.) |BLU|BLU|BLU|BLU|BLU|BLU|BLU|BLU|BLU|BLU| Phase Two (I tripped whilst fighting.) |OFF|BLU|BLU|BLU|BLU|BLU|BLU|BLU|BLU|BLU| Phase Three (I'm hurt a little, but I'll be okay.) |OFF|OFF|AQU|AQU|AQU|AQU|AQU|AQU|AQU|AQU| Phase Four (I should probably start looking to see if there are any potions around.) |OFF|OFF|OFF|AQU|AQU|AQU|AQU|AQU|AQU|AQU| Phase Five (Green? Green is good.. Right?) |OFF|OFF|OFF|OFF|GRN|GRN|GRN|GRN|GRN|GRN| Phase Six (It's okay I've fought this boss before at much less health.) |OFF|OFF|OFF|OFF|OFF|GRN|GRN|GRN|GRN|GRN| Phase Seven (This boss... This boss can breathe fire now..?) |OFF|OFF|OFF|OFF|OFF|OFF|YEL|YEL|YEL|YEL| Phase Eight ('Tis but a Scratch!) |OFF|OFF|OFF|OFF|OFF|OFF|OFF|YEL|YEL|YEL| Phase Nine (HEALS HEALS HEALS HEALS PLEASE PLEASE ANYONE.) |OFF|OFF|OFF|OFF|OFF|OFF|OFF|OFF|RED|RED| Phase Ten (Okay, I have almost no health, my party is dead, and my strongest attack: Let's do this.) |OFF|OFF|OFF|OFF|OFF|OFF|OFF|OFF|OFF|REDB| Basically, every press of the switch would idealy cause the lifebar to cycle through these phases, after the lowest health, it would cycle back to the beginning, full health status. The actual box will be DC powered, because I want it to be as seamless as possible with no wires showing. The answers that I am looking for : What would be the best controller for this application? Any helpful hints on where I could look for something relatively similar for programming this? I know that I am asking a lot, I am pretty much new to arduino programming and every howto or tutorial I've found talks of controlling all the LEDS together, I'm not sure if that would apply here since I have so many "phases" if you can shed any light on how to approach this, I would be eternally grateful and would totally fight dragons with you any time. Thanks!

12x Blu-ray laser built into a Star Trek (TOS) toy phaser, with sound effects!

I know Kipkay did it first, but this is still awesomely awesomeful :-)  I saw this on MAKE's blog; the original posting is from Jay at Hack'N'Mod.  Using a 12x Blu-ray laser (405nm) running at 465 mW, this has enough power to blind you without eye protection.  It's got a front focus with a properly styled ST:TOS nosecone, and two different selectable sound effects.  Jay's writeup is a complete tutorial for building your own.

Artists create surrealist animation on public walls

A local art group calling themselves Blu created a fantastic surreal art display titled "MUTO" in the cities of Buenos Aires and in Baden (fantoche) by using a stop-motion technique to create an ambiguous animation of dreamlike beings traveling these cities. The video is inspiring, and covers up graffiti, improving the look of the cities. Take a look for yourself on Blu's website, or the video link below.Youtube LinkBluBlu.org Video Link

Is there any way to stream a DVD or a Blu Ray disc from a home theater player to a tablet PC?

Folks, I've searched and searched.  But wouldn't it be nice to be able to put a movie in to your Blu Ray player and stream it via either WiFi or Bluetooth TO your tablet. I'd like to be able to do this as tablets generally don't have HDMI jacks and if they do it's only to stream content FROM the tablet. I'd like to be able to sit in my recliner and watch a movie on a DVD or BR I already own, while my wife watches something else.  Developers take note;  I contacted the WiFi alliance and spoke to a fellow there who hadn't even thought of the idea. If someone comes up with an application and/or a device that would make this possible they could  make some serious income patenting it.  Just give me a free unit to evaluate if you do :).

This tool came in a box of firearm items, however we have been unable to identify what it is or what it would be used for. The overall length is 2 7/8 inches, largest diameter is 3/4 inch, smaller diameter is 7/16 inch, has a 3/16 slot on one end and two 1/8 inch pins in the larger end, pins are 1/2 inch apart. There are two holes cross drilled in the smaller diameter, they are each 3/16 diameter and are 15/16 inch apart. The metal is blued same as a firearm would be. There are no identification markings on this tool.

HDMI converter request

So what do those of us with old surround sound receivers with no HDMI inputs that we either don't want to part with because in every other way they are just awesome pieces of equipment or we simply can't afford to replace them do? It seems that no one sells an affordable, quality HDMI to RCA converter that can easily go between modern components like Blu-ray players and older receivers.  So what can we pirate one from and what would be the best way to do it? Ideally it would split out all the surround channels or convert to a single digital RCA cable.  I'm more concerned about sound, because TVs wear out and get replaced faster than receivers, so odds are we have an HDMI ready TV.  I don't object to video as part of the project, it just isn't necessary (for me).

Repurposing a cell phone Li-Ion battery for a project?

I have a quick question. I made myself an electronic cigarette that runs off of AAA batteries. It works quite well, it has a heavier hit than those commercial e-cigs like Blu. The only problem is, probably because I keep smoking it like a regular cigarette, the batteries don't last long. There may be another underlying reason, but I'll deal with that later. I have three 3.7v Li-Ion batteries laying around that I used to use with my HTC G2. My question is: could I repurpose these batteries as a power source for my e-cig? I've seen some articles on repurposing them, but they don't exactly explain the method. Does it only require making the positive and negative contact as noted on the battery? So...out of four contacts, I'd only be using the two?

Laser Sonic Screwdriver - Thoughts?

So, my sister is currently a senior in college, planning on being a high school English teacher next year. She's also a Doctor Who fan. She wants me to make her a laser pointer in a sonic screwdriver case, for pointing at the projector screen, white/chalkboard, loud students, Daleks, etc. The case itself I plan to buy, probably this, and then mount a blue laser diode in. Two three questions: 1) Does anyone have one of these screwdrivers, and are they big enough to put a couple AAAs in? I'd rather not have to replace button cells every week. 2) What's the best way to get a blue or violet laser diode? Blu-Ray assembly? You can get a blue-violet laser pointer for $20 off DealExtreme, but my experience with cheap laser pointers is they burn out quickly. 3) Would I need to come up with an actual driver, or would an appropriate resistor be enough? And can a blue diode be powered off two AAAs?

Delay washing machine start!

Hello, I love this place and I love making things and living cheaply. However Im stuck. I have just moved into a rented property with a brand new standard Bosh washing machine. I have a baby and lots of laundry! The house is on Economy 7, so electricty is waaaay cheaper from midnight till 6am. I need to delay the start on the washing machine until say 3am so that I can bring the bills down. Please note: The machine has no memory so I cant use a timer plug (tried) To start the program you have to touch (press & release - blu tack didnt work!) the start button No I cant stay up that late every night! Help! Basically I need a simple, discreet, failsafe idea for something to touch the start button at a preset time or say 3 hours after I ask it. Ideas extremely welcome. Dean.

Need help controlling two servos using arduino, bluetooth, and android.

Hi folks.  I am back.  I haven't been very active on here for the past several months, but I did move to a different continent.  Anyway, I need a little help from of those smart arduino folks out there.  I am looking for an app and arduino code to control two servos using an android device via Bluetooth.  There are a ton of instructables on controlling motors via Bluetooth, and there are also several tutorials on controlling one servo via Bluetooth, but what I want to know, is how to control two servos.  I am looking for something like this but able to control two servos.  I did try an app that uses an accelerometer to control two motors, but I want to be able to control them by a slide or nob.  If someone knows of a link that could be the solution to my problem I would be grateful for it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, th3_jungle_inv3ntor  -   actually I left the jungle :(

Is there a simple way to build a configurable TOSLINK delay?

Some TVs require 3 frames for the interpolation of tweening frames (and then there is also processing overhead time). With frames coming in at 1/24th for film or 1/30 for tv then 2 or 3 frames out of sync can look horrible and add several hundred millisecond delays. The TV's SPDIF is already delayed and works great, but downscales DTS to stereo (I hate you Blu-Ray!). So I need a delay on optical that bypasses the TV to get DTS to work.   I've done some research and found that the following products do a audio delay to help with sync problems with LCD TV (esp 120Hz) and TOSLINK on older receivers that can't add the required lip-sync delay. The consumer level delays are made by: Felston - $250 J.S. Technology (UK company) - £79  Alchemy2 - $400-$450 Primare -£200 Bottom line, what does this take to develop: A TOSLINK receiver and transmitter. A MPU that can receive the serial stream store it in internal memory and read at a configured offset to transmit. Has anyone take up a project like this and be willing to post the intructions here. I hate to buy a new receiver just because of this, that would be wasteful.
