Motors, time and boredom

I have been collecting motors for a while now, and have no idea what to do with them. They range from 5-12VDC, brushed, brushless, stepper, etc. Any potential ideas for projects would be appreciated.  Thanks!

brushed to brushless!

If you have been flying your RC planes a lot and have found them getting a bit boring, go brushless and get lithium polymer cells. brushless motors are lighter and twice as powerful as brushed. lithium polymer batteries hold the most electricity to weight ratio compared to standard Nicd and Nmh. Dont believe me look at your cell phone open the battery hatch and take out battery its probably a Lithium polymer or lithium ion notice how light it is and small it is now look at the volts/ mAH pretty amazing hu? Got a laptop it probably got a lipo to. you want to make the switch but dont know what motor, battery, ESC (ESC-electronic speed control) to get, just ask and ill give you a hand! i will need to know the motor and battery that came with the plane/ or that u are using. Are you flying glow (gas powered) and wana go electric? i can help u out their too! Their are 2 kinds of brushless motors outrunner and inrunner whats the difference? well outrunners spin slower with more power so it acts like it has a gear box (this eliminates the need for a gear box reducing weight and noise) it also has a different design (look at pics). inrunners have a brushed appearance but their much lighter and more powerful u might need a gear box through. update 2/20/08 new image added (not all comment boxes are working)

Has anyone seen this motor and know how to run it?

Hi, I got A Rckit from my dads freind and was going to use it to drive a rc car. I set it up and it worked for awhile but I think it was the wrong ESC/Receiver and It went POOF when I was running it normally. A few months later I orderd a proper RC system To go with my arduino and after driving a few small cars and robots I decided to make somthing with more power. I found in My drawer the motors again and decided to run somthing with more power. I have No idea the voltage/current of these motors and want to know. After doing lots of rechurch i stumbled across what looked like the right reciver and batterys. I booked marked the page and couldn't find the motors. recentley i found what looks like the right motors but I am not sure (the ones I have the part nums are smudged). Does anyone reconize the motors or know if they are the same as the ones that I found. I am not looking to buy any driving systems for the motors. LINKS. Reciver/esc.  (looking at pics the one i thought was the same isn't) What motors i found thet look the same.   And  this. Batteys that plugged into the reciver.

Motors for Quadcopters

Hi, I am looking to make a quadcopter as my university project and I kinda run in to some problems deciding which motor I need to choose. I was thinking to choose brushless motors as they are more efficient and they give more RPM. HOwever, my professor says that there's no point using brushless/stepper motors as u can get the same RPMs using brushed motors and its the same thing. Hence, can anyone please guide me which motor is best to use and why should I use brushed or brushless motors. I shall be very glad if someone guide me through it. Thank you :)

Can I use a brushed DC motor directly without a speed controller?

The hobby shop people convinced me that there was no way to hook up a regular motor to my receiver without a ESC.  Even if the motor is all-on or all-off, I don't care.  I just want to be able to control it without a speed control.  Please help me!! I have faith in you people!!  Thanks in advance.

Im thinking of building an ebike, but unfortanately im stuck at the motor selection. I was just thinking, if you use 250W brushed motors for them, can this motor be used... If yes , just how to use it for a chain drive E-Bike? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

brushed induction motor confusion? [answered] Answered

My father and I are currently restoring a metal-working lathe, however, we do not have 3 phase power to power the original 0.5HP 3 phase motor. We do, however, have a slightly smaller 0.25HP motor. At first appearance, it seemed to be a simple AC/DC brushed motor with a field and winding on the armature. There was no wiring diagram supplied with it, but in one configuration (what appeared to be the ameuture and field coils) are wired in parallel for 120V operation. This did not seem right, since the field coils will be simply shorted across the mains, but I assumed that since we are dealing with AC and inductors, this is OK. It works flawlessly, but reversing the polarity of either the fields or armature would cause the motor to sit and buzz. If started manually, it took off slowly but sounded awful. I need the motor to rotate in both directions and do not have enough materials to do this mechanically. On closer inspection after dismantling the motor, it appears there are 4 brushes, connected together in 2 pairs. They are not directly connected to anything. The 4 wires coming out seem to be just for wiring both field coils in either series of parallel for 110V and 220V operation respectfully. Perhaps even more strange, the 4 brushes are mounted on a centripetal switch, which disengage the brushes from the armature. I was able to make out on the rust that it said "revolution induction motor." So I reasoned out that after the fields are energized, it will induce an electrical current in a few of the coils on the armature, and the energy would flow to the other 2 sets of brushes, causing a different set of coils on the amature to energize and this would initially start the motor. After it gets going, the switch disconnects all the brushes and the motor operates as a simple induction motor. My father used to rebuild motors for a small company, and this is in fact one of the motors he repaired. Although he is skilled at this practice, he does not understand the operation of induction motors and can only figure out wiring by strictly following a diagram or trial and error. I am curious about what this type of motor even is, and how it works! In th meantime, I will research induction motors and how they work, and see what I can learn.

How can you tell if a motor is brushed, brushless, or a stepper?

I am trying to buy speed control but being that this is my first time building a battle bot when i bought the motors i just bought some motors off of ebay. Unaware, that there was much more to this aspect of the bot. Thank you in advance.

need help coding Arduino to drive two 12V DC brushed motors

Hi – I need the coding for an Arduino Mega to (separately) spin two 12V DC brushed motors through a pair of MOSFETs to about 2,000rpm. Brushed DC motor HP requirements for Longboard? Answered

So I have 2 brand new tilt/trim pump motors and thought about making a set of matching electric longboards since products like Boosted Boards seem to have become fairly popular.  I am not too sure whether the tilt/trim motor would be strong enough though, they are a decent size motor though.  But it got me thinking what size is required for an electric longboard? The main problem with the tilt/trim pump motors is that I can't find specs on them anywhere, just specs for tilt/trim pump assemblies they are off of, but nothing about the motor itself other then SAE J1171 Marine rating.  Because of this I thought of buying another DC motor to do the job.  (Picture of tilt/trim motor) The constraints for me is that I have a couple 12 - 24v 100A motor controllers already, for brushed motors only.  As well, I want to just pick up a couple cheap $40 12v, 24AH Sealed led-acid (SLA) batteries from the local Ace Hardware and run either a 12v or 24v motor.   Options on eBay for affordability purposes range from 12v, 24v, 90v and 180v dc, obviously 90v and 180v are out of the question.  Looking through the 12vdc and 24vdc motors, there are many fractional HP motors available.  I was looking at something like this; http://www.ebay.com/itm/172252712203?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName;=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Running 1/4 HP at 24v, would 1/4HP be enough though?  I know electric motors HP ratings are lower then petrol engines, a 6.5HP petrol go kart runs about the same as an identical kart with a 1HP electric motor. What would cause a brushed motor to lose strength? Answered

Hi gang, My wife used her mixer to make two pounds of dough for years, but recently the motor would struggle and eventually stop.  The only way to use the mixer now is to make smaller batches of dough. I took a look under the hood, and all seems OK.  The brushes on the motor are clean and making good contact, the cooling fan moves air over the motor as it should, all the gears were well lubricated and moved freely, nothing was broken. What made the motor lose it's mojo?  Is there a way for me to make it strong again?

Driving DC brushed motors with Pi/PWM/Arduino? Answered

I have a few motors (2) that i would need to be able to drive via a PWM input (Probably from pi/arduino). I have been looking at H bridges, and that seems to be my answer, however, I can't figure out which one i need... The motors are identical 9v ~2 amp stall current motors. I would need both directions for each, and would obviously be using an external power supply.  With that said, which H bridge would suite my needs, along with what type of setup? I only have abut 4-6 PWM pins left to use, if that helps.

ac motor speed control

My uncle recently gave me a compact, functional ac motor with an axial blower attached to it. its a pretty cool thing, and i am planning on putting it in my mac's plexi case (when its built). i have no clue how to vary the speed. from what i found on wikipedia, an inductance motor cannot have speed control. how do i know if this motor is brushed or inductive?? and if its brushed, how do i vary its speed? help!!??

Windmill Generator - why won't a small brush-less motor work as a windmill generator?

I bought a small brush-less motor that was designed as a motor for a small RC plane. I tested it by spinning it with a drill. I was surprised to find that the motor did not generate much in the way of voltage. Why not? It's too bad - many small brush-less motors are so nice. No brushes, ball bearings, and low cost. I would have thought that forcing a brush-less motor to spin would have generated power. Thanks for any insight.

Running DC motor underwater? Answered

I have heard that DC motors can run underwater and am trying to build a project with them running underwater. I recently tried running a brush less DC cooling fan underwater and it broke. Meanwhile I tried another mini DC motor, the kind that cost $.99 each and it worked fine. Does anyone have any ideas why one worked and the other did not? Does it have to do with being brushed or not? Lastly would something like http://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/1117 theoretically run underwater? Thanks.

A basic (very basic) description of a Brushless DC motor.

So... before I start... I am not a physicist, nor am I an electrical engineer. Hopefully someone within one of those (or both) professions will chime in and enrich this discussion. That said... I'm going to be using leyman's terms. This thread is specifically meant to explain how a brushless DC electric motor exerts a force, and how that force is used to generate work. To start off, I'd Like to explain the components which comprise a brushless DC motor: First... You have an axil. The axil's purpose is to spin. Next you have natural magnets, or solid state magnet; I use the terms somewhat incorrectly, since a natural magnet refers specifically to nickel or ferrous base magnets, but there exist a large variety of compounds and composites that exhibit the ability to produce magnetic fields. In practice you have many in a motor, but for our purposes... we can pretend we have one. The natural magnet's job is exert a magnetic field while attached to the axil. After that we have an electrical coil. Once again, in Brushless DC motors, we have many of these, but for our purposes we'll use 3. The electrical coil's job is to produce a magnetic field which can move in a circle. Finally we have the engine housing. The purpose of the engine housing is to hold everything together. Note: I'm intentionally leaving out the computer control mechanism. there are alot of great instructables on microcontrollers. Most Brushless DC motors requrie one to work since there is no mechanical timing device, as there is in a brushed engine. So... how does this fit together? In this setup the natural magnet produces a force when next to the electrical coil (This coil is also known as an electromagnet). This is because the charge of the coil is opposite to the charge of the natural magnet. Once the Natural magnet and the electromagnetic coil align with each other, the first coil shuts off and the second turns on. Once again the natural magnet is drawn towards the magnetic pole. This process repeats until the natural magnet has spun in a circle (note: usually you want it to continue to spin beyond a single revolution.) That's the basic (very basic) idea behind a Brushless DC Motor.

Ultra cheap RC quadcopter (preferably using brushed motors)

Hey everyone.... :) I'm organising a camp to encourage high school students to take up STEM courses..... and I'd like to have them build their own RC quadcopters. I want the course to have a minimal fee.... so the quad should be INSANELY CHEAP. The quad should be able to do just one thing:FLY. Also, durability is not an issue.... just one or two flights should be sufficient. 1)Can someone please suggest a design using brushed instead of brushless motors? (Simply because they're cheaper) 2)If there's any way I can build a flight controller using off-the-shelf components.... please share your ideas.. 3)I have no idea about how to make the remote control/ RF transmitter....... is it the same as that of an RC toy car remote control? 4)I've come across some lovely designs where the frame is made out of paper or cardboard.... so that's not an issue.  Help in any form is welcome.... I'd love to hear from y'all....  Thanks in advance...:)

what is the best microcontroller to use ( pic ?) if i want to drive a motor forward and reverse using a h-bridge ?

Im trying to save space in the design and be cost effective( i wanted the pic and h-bridge and the motor to be under 1 inch) . so im trying to use the smallest chips that will do the job.  i was wondering if an 8-bit pic would do the job ?   edit: Id prefer using Microchips PIC, i think i have somewhat an idea of using MPLAB. Im planning on using a brushed DC motor, H-bridge, and Voltage regulator.  It has to fit under a 1' area taking up the least possible space because im using it as an unlocking/locking device. i was wondering what would be the best microchip pic that could achieve this with the least cost and size.

The Newman Motor Challenge !

I was recently approached by someone claiming the old Newman Motor wouldn't be good for anything.Well, I was a little bit offended by this as I already had my little toy version of it as kid.At that time though it really was just a toy for me.Critics still say the Newman Motor is nothing more than some interesting machine.And even the biggest followers will admit it is not a free energy machine, just a very efficient one.I experimented with, what some call fringe science, now for about 30 years.And it all started with math and my interest in unusual ways of dealing with problems.So what's behind the challenge?The original design was suprisingly simple as you can see in the above Wiki link.Just a spinning magnet in a (split) coil.What you don't find anywhere though is real details on the how to.Sure, you need to have some sort of contact linked to the rotation and timing is critical but what does it all do?You can build a drt simple model in a few hours with stuff you might have around already.Quite a few Youtubers are happy to share their creations.The actual challenge is to come up with what Newman really did inside his drum.And also why I think it is not the full potential his machine had.Build a simple Newman motor and check for how long you can let it run on a charge super capacitor.Then sit back and read some of the other magnet stuff I wrote.After that come up with a better design ;)I started to create some 3D models that need testing once I find more free time - should take some leave one day..But for those with little patience and an interest in the Newman Motor I decided to share my current idea:For some it might be really confusing although they know motors and magnetic fields.Those just playing with magnets might have it easier for once as they can pretend they followed my thoughts ;)The original design used two coils and a rotating magnet.If you consider how the magnet creates an electromagntic field in the coils then you have to wonder right away how it can spin.And most designs will indeed need a push start to get going!You can't have electricity produced without the magnet spinning and you can't make it spin without electricity!The current from the battery or capacitor can only flow at the short moment of contact on the axle.This moment needs to be timed "mechanical" as we don't want to waste any power on not required electronics.If you ever bothered to check the timing of a Newman Motor then you realised the collapsing electromagnetic field at the moment of contact actually is in reverse to what the manget has in that position.Unlike any normal motor it means the magnet produces most of the power the coil needs to make the rotor spin!So far for the well known facts, now for my fiction:I would like to call my version the Aussie Newman Motor as all things downunder are just different ;)Here are my current desing mods, that I freely share so everyone can benefit form many years of experimenting to save a lot of time.1. Instead of two coils a not-really-bifilar coil is centered on the axle.The coil is created like two stacked relay coild that have no bobbin and a "dint" to allow the axle to pass through.Without the big gap of the original less of the magnetic field strenght is lost and the coil is far closer to a homogenous magnet.2. The timing done by salvaging a simple DC motor's contacts and brushes.This allows for far higher currents and if the salvaged motor had enough poles also for a very short "burst".3. The axle contact is made with a cleaned steel bearing.After cleaning very conductive copper based lubricant is used in tiny amounts to prevent corrosion and provide a lower resistance.The clear benefit is that with the new timing system a lot more current can flow.Initial tests with a mock up model showed an increase in run time from the capacitor of about 15% already.With proper bearings and a salvaged DC motor I hope to reach 18 to 20% more than the original design.Now why the DC motor if a reed contact or hall effect sensor would be even faster and with less resistence?Neither can handle really high currents without additional electronics ;)Plus of course I wanted to leave the door open for the Aussie Newman Motor 2020.You might now say "Why bother if the above improvements are already so great?".If you followed my elsewhere for a while then you know the Newman Motor is only 2D but I prefer 3D or more harmony if you like.Right now the imagination of people re-inventing Newman's machine is limited.They try to get on the horse from behind - literally.Fancy electronics, machined parts and so on.But they never go 3D ;)You got it? :)There is only two coils!!The magnet rotates, same as the contact on the axle.One set of coils for each contact the salvaged DC motor has.Each set aligend to the corresponding contact.And now you will ask "How do you plan to connect that to a single DC power source?Well, that is why it will be the 2020 model - my time for tinkering is sadly limited because I still need to work to support myself.But if you consider that the original as a good model can run for over 10 minutes on a supercapcitor then ask yourself how long it could run on 4 or even 8 coil sets.And although there is no such thing as "free energy": There will be still space for more coils.Or other coils to just provide electricity that does not power the motor.Critics will now see their chance and state that if we add a load to these additional coils then this will cause a strain on the system.Of course they are correct here.If, however, the load is mechanical then the motor needs to supply basically the same additional energy.Plus all mechanical losses.The question is: How much mechanical load can we add before the motor is down to the same efficiency of a very efficient DC motor? ;)And what if our Aussie Newman 2020 would actually violate the laws of physics?We can calculate how much electrical energy would be required so a given motor produces a fixed amount of torque.Or we can just measure it, the beauty of science...We can do the same in reverse of course.Let's say a mechanical pump would require 500RPM and 100Nm of torque to pump 100 liters per minute.Then we could calculate what sized motor we need to drive the thing and how much power the motor would need.So again: What if the Aussie Newman 2020 would require far less than what science makes us think and still does this job on a simple 12V lead acid batty of 4Ah?Just saying... ;)I hope to have a presentable and working 2 coil system by May, so stay tuned!In case you are faster or even beter then of course feel free to show off your results or to post a link to your Instructable so everyone can verify it.

How do I connect a twisted copper lead to a carbon brush motor? Can it be soldered? Answered

The tiny wire connected to the carbon brush on my palm sander broke off right at the carbon brush. Is this solder-able? The 3/8" bit of wire is connected to a blade connector on one end and used to be connected to a small depression on the side of the brush. Thanks for any advice.

Low Cost DC motor Controler?

I want to power a 90 Volt, 5amp Perment Brush type DC Gear Motor. The, "Variable speed controller", needs to be able to use 115v AC or 115v DC input power, which is selectable by the operator. I have used a Staco variable tranformer which uses 115v AC input and rectified the output to drive the motor. But also need the 115v DC input option.

Can anyone help me get a "pancake" brush less DC motor working ?

The motor worked when it was in the VCR.  Now I took it out and have no clue how to get it running.  The driver circuit has two main parts, an AN3826NK (which is a 28 pin IC) and a PUA 3228, along with various capacitors and what I believe is a hall effect sensor (part marked as "tf35213f3").  The brand of the VCR is Panasonic, but I don't have a model #.   Can it be run again?

Could someone tell me, how to run this motor (picture)???

Hello ... on the picture you can see a motor, that has 4 pins. I would like to make it run, but I don't know how. I don't know, if it's a brushless or brushed motor. There are no number, no part number ... and I think = I'm not sure, there is no magnet as well (I made a test with needle, but it didn't attract the needle). In my poor knowledge ... normal brushed motor has 2 pins, and all the brushless I saw, had 3 pins. but  I never saw a 4 pin motor. Any ideas ??? Thank you (in advance) for your help.

can i speed control a dc motor with a nitro cars stepper motor?

Hello, i ant to know if i can use the stepper system from a r/c nitro car to control the speed of two motors individually (with two different steppers though), using this electronic speed controller kit http://jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=KC5225&keywords;=speed+controller&form;=KEYWORD i plan on using two of these to control the speeds of the left and right motor for my remote controll tank, which uses brushed motors

Dead Sewing Machine or Dremel Tool Motor

A woman asked me to look at her sewing machine. The motor was dead. A new foot control did nothing. A dealer seemed disinterested in looking at it for repairs, but wanted to sell her a new machine for $700+. Attached is a photo of the commutator from her machine's motor after I cleaned it up enough to run again. After 15 years of use there was so much oxidation and contamination from brushes arcing that an Ohmmeter showed infinite resistance (open circuit) across the commutator, unless readings were taken on the brighter copper colored portions of the commutator. (The brushes are still good.) Then I got reasonable readings, indicating there was actually an unbroken circuit across the armature coils. Removing shrouds and getting to the motor was the most difficult part. Then I turned the motor by hand while I held 500 grit sandpaper on the commutator until it was clean and bright. The motor runs like new again. The owner is very happy. (I made this fix as a favor, not to gain income.)I had expected something like I found in a Dremel tool that quit working. With an Ohmmeter I found a break in the circuit between the field coil and a terminal pin. (I was able to bridge the broken connection and the Dremel workes again.) Another sewing machine did not run, and the problem was found to be a bad electronic circuit board no longer available. That machine had to be replaced.But, sometimes somethng so simple as a very dirty commutator is the only problem and is easily cleaned so the machine works perfectly again.

How to built a blimp?

Hello, I want to built an indoor blimp. I plan to use 3 motors one them will be back side and the others will be the right side and the left side of it. I m going to use servo motors for the right and the left side whereas a brushes motor for the back side. But i cannot find suitable motors?Which motors can i use for the blimp that will lift 2 kg?

Quadcopter wont lift off? Answered

I have made a quadcopter. However, it wont lift off :( I really need help with that. Following is the list of components I have used: 1) http://www.buildyourowndrone.co.uk/QuadCopter-Full-Motor-ESC-Set-850Kv-p/acq-fmk85.htm 2) 6200mAh, 35C LIPO battery 3) http://www.buildyourowndrone.co.uk/ArduCopter-QuadCopter-v1-0-Frame-Carbon-Fiber-p/ac-frcarbon.htm The weight of the whole copter along with the battery and the components is 1.52Kg which I am sure the motors can lift. I am using and arduino UNO and an MPU 6050 along with a FLYSKY 6Channel Rx/Tx for communication. The motors run on full power, however I am not sure why I can not generate a lift :/ I really need to make it work as this is my final year project. PLeaseeee someone help me :(

Wondering how to power an LED on the end of a motor

I'm trying to make a prop, which has an LED (or two) on the spinning tip. I'm not sure how best to power it. I could make my own contact brushes, but that would be either too big or too unreliable. I've been looking around for motors that have some kind of slip-ring built in to deliver power to the top, but I haven't found any.

Making a large electric motor from scratch

I searched the archived threads and found quite a bit alreadydiscussed here about making very simple and small electric motors fromscratch. What I want to do is to make a fairly large and powerful one(say, somewhere around the size of a coffee can). This is for asculpture project, and the motor will be driving a kinetic mechanism.I'm pretty handy, have a extensive range of tools and am comfortableworking with high voltage. What I am not, however, is knowledgeableabout designing or making electric motors; hence my questions.I understand that I'll need to wind armatures and so forth, but Idon't know what the advantages/disadvantages would be of making a DCversus an AC motor (either power could be supplied), nor do I reallyunderstand the differences between the various types of those two. Themotor needs to be able to start by itself under load (as opposed tosome homemade electric motors that seem to need a nudge to get going).Simplicity, low maintenance and ease of construction would be a plus.I had thought of making a homopolar motor such as they have at theExploratorium (http://www.exploratorium.edu/cmp/exnet/exhibits/group5/daisy/index.html) but it seems that homopolar motors like this cause considerable wearto the part that acts as a brush, which will work against my goal oflow maintenance. Unless...perhaps I could use a rolling conductor (like a precision bearing) as a brush? Does that make any sense?Thanks for any advice!

I have the main motor from a vacuum cleaner what can I do with it? Answered

The motor is very powerful. It runs off of 120 V AC. The cable that plugs into the wall runs electricity straight to the motor. It weighs about 3-4 pounds and has brushes. It has alot of torque. So much so that it will flip in the air to ~1.5 feet when it is first started. I believe it spins at perhaps 2000-3000 rpm though I'm not sure. This motor was the motor that powers suction in the vacuum cleaner. I would love if someone could tell me if I could either use it as an alternator (for pedal power electricity generation) or what I could use it as a motor for?

Quadcopter without expensive ESC?

Well I am new to quadcopters so please forgive me if I am wrong. Well I am set about to build a quadcopter and was doing a bit of research on the internet and most of them were telling me to get ESC for controlling the speed of the motor. I want to know if I can substitute it with something cheaper which basically varies the output using pwm input from the microcontroller(something like opamp) Another question is about motors ,is it a must that I should get brush less motors We'll I have two options Brush less 1500Kv motor for about 30$ each Normal 24000rpm 12v motor for 6$ each So which one is better and if brushless why so. Apart from that how much would a completely finished quadcopter wiegh (approx weight)

Can a vacuum cleaner motor generate electricity? Answered

I have a vacuum cleaner motor that runs off straight AC from the wall. I think it's like 120 V AC right?.. anyways it's got a huge amount of toque and i'd like to attach it to a stationary bicycle and pedal it to generate electricity. I know all the instructables for this my only quam is the type of motor. I'm not buying one. This is what I have and furthermore I don't even know if it's like universal i guess they call them..I do know that it is a brushed engine (as in it's not brushless) by the way if you haven't caught it yet my electrical jargin is very weak. Thanks for any help you can give me.-Ask me if you need more info.

How do i increase the speed of an electric bike?(Motor in hub)

I know you need to increase the power going into the motor. I don't understand exactly how? I know that a different battery with higher voltage output should work, but is there any other way? If so, how and what would I need? I trust that you guys can come up with something. P.S I am aware of the potential danger of the motor if I increase too much.

Dead Dremel help

I have a Dremel tool that is a few years old.  the other day it quit working, I was using it heavily.  I checked the brushes they looked fine.  I opened it up and everything looks OK the motor/ shaft are connected and spin. The  only thing I noticed was what looked like a thing strand of solider on the one side near the brush.  Any ideas?
