digital camera? Answered

I have seen somewhere a cut down digital camera rehoused in a wooden box. the thought strikes me- I have several redundant Olympus lenses could I successfully take a point and shoot digital camera, remove the lens, mount the camera body in a box and add my Olympus lenses to the front to make an exchangeable lens digital camera? I realize I would need to get the lens to CCD distance right but that doesn't seem to be all that difficult - I can engineer an adjustable mount if necessary. it seems a pity to have all these lenses and nothing to do with them. Opinions guys?

Disposable camera

I have a disposable camera and I am trying to decide what  to do with it.  I know many of you would suggest a stun gun but that does not interest me.  I like other high voltage stuff like teslacoils and stuff though.   Oh on a side note ...(you should find this funny)...after I took it apart I was looking at the way it worked and I saw the leads going to the flash.  I thought it was odd that it was not insulated and I accidentally touched it without the battery even being in (yes I know this does not matter).  So in other words I already know what it would feel like as a stun gun. Give me some ideas.  :)

New camera?

Well I'm getting a new camera and have come to the choosing part, basically the upper limit is £180 and I'm torn between two but also looking for other suggestions. It's to replace my fuji finepix S5600 that was stolen. my requirements are as so: *Min 10x optical zoom *Needs to have shutter speed adjustment of at least 15 seconds down to 1/2000th of a second *A decent amount of megapixels (6 or more) *Full aperture adjustments would be nice but up to F8.0 is acceptable *Built in flash *Preferably uses standard batteries like AA, unless it's canon, got a load of them already I've already Seen two I like, being most familiar with Fuji and canon drew me towards them. The Finepix S1000FD is the evolution of my older camera and the controls remain the same for the most part, Has 12x zoom which is better and 10 megapixels resolution... The canon SX100 is cheaper and only has 10x zoom, it does do slightly faster shutter speeds but it's a marginal difference, it also includes optical image stabilisation which would be nice, the fuji has no mention of this... Any other suggestions for potential cameras are very welcome, please help me choose between these two or others...

Speed Cameras

Personally, I'm on the fence on whether or not these are a good idea in the first place. Should people be speeding in the first place? If yes, why? Having a large speed differential with the rest of the traffic can be quite a dangerous situation.... Why am I on the fence? Because we, in addition to the UK, are already an endemic surveillance society (allong with Russia and China) CITE - it's sad :(]. I'm also anti rfid ID (including the new US passports :/)http://www.engadget.com/2007/12/27/angry-drivers-torching-traffic-cameras-in-england/Apparently, the Luddite tradition of machine breaking is alive and well in its country of origin. According to a report, a group calling itself MAD -- or Motorists Against Detection -- have taken to setting autonomous traffic cameras ablaze across the United Kingdom, and are detailing their exploits on a website (of course). The group's "PR" claims they have been active since 2000, and have destroyed over 1000 roadside cameras. Says the group's leader, Capt. Gatso, "The vigilante anti-speed camera group have announced a summer of MADness which will see them target for destruction all speed cameras in the UK. It's now going to be a period of zero tolerance against all speed cameras." The gang of disgruntled drivers also plans a day of action called "National Cover-Up Your Number Plates Day." Guy Fawkes would be proud. Here's a website for the torched camerasI'm interested to hear the opinion of those of you in the UK... Of course, in addition to everyone else.. Opinions on speed cameras?

Cat Camera

Hello geniuses! I found this post a while back over on boingboing about this guy who hooked up a very small digital camera to his cat's collar. The link is here: cat cameraI thought this was a cool idea and immediately headed over to amazon to buy the camera that this guy recommended and is shown in the tutorial. BUT now that I'm looking at the tutorial again, I realize it's way over my head as far as the electronics. So I'm putting this request out there for some electronics genius to make an instructable geared towards beginners. Parts list, etc...edit: In no way am I trying to take away from J. Perthold's original idea and design here. I just don't understand his directions, and thought an instructable based around this project would be a good idea and possibly be an improvement. Thanks to anyone who takes up this challenge.Cyen

Camera Suggestion

I do ALOT of youtube videos, but I also need still good quality still pictures and my camera just died. I have a budget of around $400.00 and need something that takes HD video I would like something that either has an external mic jack or takes good audio, my subscribers complain of a high pitched whistle in my current videos (I cannot hear it) It would also be nice if it could be set up to stream directly to a computer, as I would like to record classes, and some of them are 8-12 hours. If the Contour +2 took still pictures I would compromise on the picture aspect because I shoot a lot of outdoor action stuff, and a waterproof helmet cam would be nice.  Right now I use a Nikon S8000, and liked it, but it just wasn't durable (plus the sound issues) I know I am asking a lot, and will have to compromise something, but I cannot go over $400-$500 budget. Please recommend something you think would work

inverter on a camera flash

Ive been studying the intertubes for a bit now and I cant seem to find an explanation on how a disposable camera flash works in detail. I mean I understand that it runs with two transformers, one at 300v output to charge the cap and the other to help discharge the payload through the xenon bulb run at 2000v output. but a transformer doesn't work with out a pulse or rapid continuous change in voltage. so how is it inverting to ac or am I missing something stupid

Automatic pinch for camera!?

Hi everyone, I am in desperate need of your help! I have a camera that I need to record for around 2 hours. I have a big enough SD card and enough battery power BUT the camera (due to import regulations) is restricted to only filming 29 minutes of footage at a time! I've had a think about several ways to get round this but to no avail. It's a Sony camera which means they are they strict about letting the user customise the settings. No firmware or hacking kit here. :/ I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about making a small device that could 'pinch' the record button at half hour intervals or maybe pinch it twice at 20 minute intervals. Once to stop recording and once to start again. It can be powered by USB if needed and also, needs to be fairly light (around 50g). If anyone thinks they could help me or even help make a device (due to a huge lack in electronics intellect), that would be great. If anyone wants to know what I'm doing with my camera....well I'm sending it into near Space. Have a look: www.joshingtalk.com You could have your device sent to near Space too and be one of the first people to ever do this.... Thanks, Josh.
