I just had an idea.... Someone needs to make a car alarm app for smart phones. It can use the microphone to listen for breaking glass, the speakerphone for playing pre-recorded messages (step away from the vehicle, the police have been called), the camera can sense movement inside the vehicle and the GPS can sense (and report) movement of the vehicle. All of this information can be sent in real time to the other phone that you carry with you. Installation is as easy as turning it on and tossing it in the seat! Compatible with any car! Battery backup! :)

Ok i have an idea im only 13... not shure if its been thought of before but everyone knows about the car that runs on water but what about a car that ran on dirty water or inpure water and then could change that to pure water while your driving :D if this was thought of before anyone else its my idea xD

No, not a phone in a car--a phone that is a car, or at least looks like one. This car is a converted VW Beetle that is being used to promote a phone company. I think this may be even more exciting to see on the road than the sheepdog from the movie Dumb and Dumber.Link via TechEBlog

Come on people!! We have "PROS" saying it cant be done to 1st timers with excellent results. i've painted cars with spray cans (not recommended) of course I used Walmart cheepo paint, Tractor paint (had JD green, IH yellow, FORD white and mixed every thing together and sprayed it on my Toyota pu. mint green, lasted 5 years till I got tired of it. Then used Western paint Porsche red on same truck weathered badly after 2 years. Now I am going to paint my 93 Dakota with Rustoleum flat black and then get the grandkids to help camo it with spray bombs,brushes, whatever. Just remember lifes short, HAVE FUN

Ibuilding a custom car body out of polystyrene foam. Any advice on what to cover the foam with to strenghten it. I was thinking abot fiberglass but was really hoping to avoid it if possibe. Any suggestions on a strong alternative to fiberglass would be appreciated.

I bought a car battery just so I could take it with me camping and charge my cell phone. Here is the problem: car powered devices are designed to be charged in a car while the car is running. The voltage of car power is 14.4 volts and the voltage of a fully charged car battery is 12.6 volts. The car battery will charge my cell phone because it is low amperage and does not drop the voltage very much (only if the car battery is mostly full), but if I try to connect my inverter and power higher-amp devices the inverter will beep and not work because it senses low voltage. One way I can get my battery to work is if I had a DC step up transformer. A car battery ranges between 0 and 12.6 volts. I need something which can supply a constant 14.4 volts as the battery is drained. Another option is if I got two batteries and hooked them together in series for 24 volts. If I did that I would need a transformer which could convert 24 to 14.4 volts as the batteries drained. So what is the best way to do this? This is for my camera drone: a DJI Mavic Air. If I could charge my drone batteries with a car battery I could fly a lot longer. Thanks-Jacob

I've seen some old flywheel powered toy cars and i'm wondering could that be scaled up to work on a pedal car so that it spins up while you're pedalling and then have it engage by lever or something to assist pedal power over bumps and stuff or just give it a boost on the flat? also most flywheels seem to be mounted vertically, is there any reason not to mount one horizontally as i think it would fit into the pedal car better that way?oh and assuming i'm limited to a certain weight would a small flywheel with an evenly distributed weight or a wider flywheel with most of the weight on the outside edge maintain its spin for longer?

What I am designing (and planning on working on very soon) is a vehicle with the possible speed of a gokart, but with a propulsion system similar to a bike. The mechanism itself would be a simple push pedal (like a car) but with a gear system like a bicycle. Upon pushing down the pedal, a shaft connected too it would then push against the foremost gear. and that gear would push another and so on until it comes in contact with the rear wheel, propelling it forward. A simple spring between the pedal and floor will allow the pedal to return to the original position. However I cannot seem to get the steering and brake system down right. Should the steering be that of a car and use 2 wheels on the front with a long axel connecting the 2? or more like a bike, with a one wheel turning system. (aka. should it be a 4 wheel or 3 wheel? Might depend on weight distribution and balance, though both could be possible.) and how should the brakes be arranged? a pedal, like a normal car brake, or a stick beside the driver, like an emergency break, as well as where the brake pad would come into contact with the rear. On the axel or on the wheels? Last (and most definitely not the least) is that while this vehicle must be sturdy, it must also be light weight. So any and all material recommendations for parts would be greatly appreciated. (cheap would also be appreciated) (My thought for material) chasis - light, but firm (strong) wood. axels - aluminum or steel tires - Gokart/ riding lawn mower turning wheel/steering - wood or plastic seat - whatever I can find that's soft (not a major thing) safty belt - I may not be able to test out the prototype (kinda thick) so I need the crash test dum *ahem* "driver" to survive incase a crash were to happen. brake pad - rubber so that it causes the right amount of friction but not enough to damage any parts.

Hi, So in computer engineering I've got to make a arduino based car, I've added a whole bunch of features such as IR tracking, obstacle avoidance(proximity sensor), optical tracking(follow a black line), and remote control through an android based phone. Since I'm a total newbie to technology I'm having trouble. I would appreciate it if You guys can point me towards resources and arduino libraries(for coding) that will work for me. Right now for coding I've only got basic pseudo-code setup since I do not know what libraries to use. I have searched up many sketches online and looked at them but didn't really understand any of the code. When I tried to start my car the ignition just clicked a few times, then finally started. It seemed like the battery was weak. I spoke to a mechanic who said probably one battery cell was bad and advised that I replace the battery. I did that and now have a brand new battery. I didn't fix the problem. Does anyone have advice?

First off, this is a question about speakers sound quality loudness and all that stuff, it doesn't really have to do with any math or equations, just experience. So I want some sub woofers, and after looking around I have determined that there are cheap ones, and very expensive ones. Now, if I get a fairly affordable 15" (med quality) will it be louder/better than a 12" one that costs $900

Ok i want to build an electric hybrid system my first question is ac or dc power. i want to build a paralleled drive system. that uses the stock motor to drive on the highway with maybe a little help from the electric motors. here are my thoughts start with a f250 powerstroke diesel crew cab truck, install a divorced t case and new drive shaft, hook the electric motor to the t case front axle output. the goal is to use the space by the tool boxes to fit the batteries and later update the alternator. the goal here is a hybrid that can still haul what a normal truck can but run purely on electricity when in town

The car alternator that i have don't have any magnets inside. it is not a universal ac/dc motor because when i hooked up car battery to it. it wont run. how does it run in the car. is there any circuit that i need to make to make the motor run here is the pictures that i took there is only a F written next to the green wire and a N on the top right of the motor just after the green wire. the white wire is very thick

Guys, I and my two boys have a Tomy AFX slot car racing system that we set up and play. We have a load of track so we can set up a long, winding track. The downside though, is that as the speed controllers are connected by a wire, when one of the cars comes off, you have to go over to put it back on the track and one of two things happen; 1) you have to drop the controller, go over to the point where the car comes off, then run back (Me) or 2) run over to where the car has come off, forgetting that the controler is still connected to the track and pull the track apart (the boys) If there was a way of making the controllers wireless, it would be brilliant. It would mean you could stand where you want and not have to waste as much time when recovering your car. As i see it, I would need four independent transmitters, of one channel each. That's about the limit of my knowledge of the wireless bit! The cars get about 22 volts, although clearly the current is not massive. The current controllers are basically a rheastat with a trigger connected to the wiper that contacts the coiled resistive wire. Any of you clever guys out there know of a relativeley cheap and simple way of making this wireless?

I had a few ideas on how to make more efficient cars. First off why is it we have NO generators being used while stuffs rotating. Take a small generator with a rubber drive point...like there a chain or belt would go... and place that on the tires. This is a friction driven generator which means that it would not work well in the rain. These...if done right... could keep the car running and then keep the battery charged. Using the battery only for stops. I also think we need to figure out a way to put a coil in the drive train somewhere. Making it to where when the car stops the coil is wound tight, when the car takes off again the coil could unwind and help the car take off. this feature added to gasoline engines would help cut the cost of gas greatly, not to mention emissions.

In the early 70s Mother Earth news advertised a kit to make a hybrid car using a 5 horse engine to run an alternator that fed a battery bank which in turn ran an airplane engine starter motor coupled to the transmission shaft. Is that still viable? Or does anybody have that set of plans for sale?

Hello, My burning question is if I can recharge a car battery with a 12 v 5 Amps DC energy source. The car battery is a 12v 70 A standard battery, i think it uses Lead. I am asking because i do not have any experience in recharging car batteries and i know that mobile phone batteries can explode if you do somenthing wrong, so i want to get it right the first time with a car battery. I recently bought a used car. It has a radio, but no faceplate. While I could probably find a replacement faceplate or even install a new radio myself. I want to see if I might be able to DIY my own stereo out of the bits of my radio I do have and maybe an MP3 player or something. I figure the amplifier and power systems are all hanging out in the box there. So all thats actually missing is the part that acutally makes the audio to send to the amp. Anyone out there know enough about car stereo to confirm/deny my thoughts on this and maybe provide some advice?

I have a car with a mechanical door lock that is broken. Hence I cannot lock the car door (drivers side). I tried to stick a couple of staples (from hasp and staples) using superglue to the door and body work with the idea of putting a padlock through both. To my surprise the superglue would not stick. Has anyone any idea how I can secure the door while the lock is broken. Thanks
