Plastic Cases

I wanted to know what the best way to open a screw-less plastic case is. I am trying to open an ac-dc wall adapter for a project. The thing seems to be glued firmly shut. The last time I tried this with a different adapter I had to take a 20 pound weight and smash it (mostly out of frustration), which did not end well for the case or the parts inside. Both need to be intact.

ALUMINUM CASES

I'm looking for a website that sells cheap aluminum/plastic cases and i just need a generic kind, no branding needed. i know they cannot be that expensive if you can buy a $15 pokerchip set that comes with one. or a kid's board game that comes in one for $10. i've done alot of searching and all i come up with are the expensive designer ones that start at $200. i will be cutting holes in this case making modifactions to make a mobile workstation for my laptop so i dont want to spend $200 on a case that i'm going to cut up. it doesnt have to be aluminum and doesnt need a lock, but something like a briefcase (with a handle) is ideal. here are some images, anyone have any ideas? btw: the case i'm looking for has to be at least – 6" thick, 18"wide and 14.5"tall, must be a hard case (made of anything), must have a handle and open like a brief case.

Old VCR Case

I have an old VCR, and I took it apart and scavenged for useful parts. I sold a couple, and threw out the rest. I kept the empty case in case I though of something to do with it, but so far I've had no ideas. I still kept the plugs and other parts from the inside which you can see from the outside. If anybody has an idea for what to do with it that would be great. Thanks in advance.

Wall of case fans?

Hey guys, I have been thinking up ideas all night for wind power. I've been messing around with a decent dc motor I found in a printer, but I'll have to wait till tommorow to make some kind of proper blades for it. I however, have an interesting idea. I was thinking of using just one case fan by itself to generate power (see video below). But then I got to thinking, what if I made a wall of case fans in my back yard? and wired them all up in parallel or something. I measured the output of one case fan I have here and at most I could get was 0.100v DC turning it by hand as fast as I could. I come along so many case fans and throw them out all the time, so why not re-use them?? I'm not sure winter time would be the best time to put something like that out, but I think it would work.

Paracord phone case?

I want to weave a paracord sheet, roughly about 120mm x 210mm. How mush paracord will I need? Also, the paracord will be white in colour. I will also line the paracord sheet with fabric with a design on it. The design face will come back on itself to form a pouch and the excess will form a 'lid'. When the sheet comes back on itself, i will join the sides together with elastic material. Also, I will laser cut on black acrylic an android robot, which will sit on a face of the case. How do you find my design?

iPad case with keyboard

I’m looking for an iPad case with keyboard and specifically one that can take intensive typing. I gotta work on the road quite a lot and am not carrying my laptop everywhere. Came across the Typad, which is kinda what I’m looking for, only that it’s over 120 dollars. Another case is the ZAGGmate which is cheaper, but I haven’t found any satisfying reviews. Anyone has recommendations or experience with these keyboard cases?

Zune 80 Cases

Hey, I'm new to posting on this site, so if I am posting in the wrong area, please forgive me. And I'm not sure if I can make requests, but if I can, I have one. I bought one of the new Zune 80's and have been looking around for a case specially designed for the Zune 80 and not the Zune 30, but can only find two. So I am just wondering if anyone out there can make an instructable on how to make a Zune 80 case, if it isn't too hard. Thanks.

Giant Gourd Case?

I like watching Naruto and one of probably everyone's favorite characters is Gaara. Gaara carries around a giant gourd on his back and I figured, why can't I? I thought about making a snowman out of beach balls as a mold and covering it with paper mache. Using that as a base I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to harden and waterproof the case. I thought about layering fiber glass or using plaster, but I'm not sure how heavy it would be. I also planned on making compartments, one on top for general storage and one on bottom with interchangeable parts like a speaker and a drink container with a tap. Eagerly open to suggestions. : )

Custom MP3 Player Cases and Case Mods here

This is where you can suggest cases for iPods, such as a carved out book that holds an iPod and headphones (like the one I made last year) or maybe have an idea to make a secret iPod holder out of a pop can. If you have any ideas/pictures of your case (hand made or store bought) post em here. I'll get this started... One idea I have is an iPod case for my 1st gen 4GB apple mini of mine, I am currently making an instructable on it so it will be published once my camera gets back so I can take the finishing pictures of it. Descriptions/ideas/how to make one from an idea listed/pictures/ect. are all welcome here (MP3 player related).

DIY Waterprrof Iphone case.

Hello, I have an iPhone 5s and want to make a durable waterproof case for that, specifically for white water rafting. So I have an outline plan and want your inputs if I am doing something wrong or if you have a better suggestion. 1) Get a plastic box in which iphone cases come (some thing like this but which is strong http://i01.i.aliimg.com/photo/v3/1574895035_1/iphone_5s_case_hard_plastic_box.jpg) 2) Get a rubber seal and fit it exactly for the size.     http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/AlwAAOxyOalTYCK2/$_35.JPG 3) Make a wrist strap with some elastic and make a holder for iphone with it.       This holder is needed to keep the phone in place on hand and when I want to take the pic I can easily get it off, shoot and put it back. 4) Fish wire.      This will be used to connect the actual phone case and wrist strap so if I drop the phone it still remains with me or use a retractable cable to make it more professional. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51ZbiJQuOsL._SX466_.jpg So far this is my idea, what do you guys think about it ?

Wall of PC Case Fans?

Hello guys, sorry if this is the wrong section but, I was thinking of making a DIY fan out of PC case fans to keep myself cool in the summer. I've tried a number of fans in the past, but they don't seems to be very good. I usually put them right next to an open window to draw cold air in. I was thinking of making some kind of rig like in the video below, only without the bitcoin mining computer. I got the idea from this video and from when I was messing around with the fans in my own PC. I was chancing the speed of the fan for the PCI cards and noticed that it could get really cold if ramped up a bit. ) I was thinking of using 9 identical 120mm or 140mm fans, preferably ones that can be used with a fan controller. Here is a few of the things I need help with. How will I power the whole thing? What kind of cabled will I need? Could I use a fan controller to power all 9 fans? Can I even hook up 9 fans to a fan controller? Maybe I could use 2 fan controllers or something? What brand of fans should I use? How will I attach the fans together? Cable ties like in the video? Maybe I could make a makeshift wooden stand to hold them upright.

DIY Milled iPhone case? Answered

I am taking a class in automated manufacturing this year in school, and thus have to do a few projects requiring laser cutters/cnc mills. So I thought as kind of an extra project, it would be cool to make a case for my iphone 4. So the question: is it possible that I can mill myself an iphone case, probably out of wood (I prefer aluminum/stainless steel but that might just scratch the heck out of the phone), and if so, what type of wood should i use (I am clueless... not a carpenter :D ), any ways, any thoughts, or maybe someone has tried it before? Just though it would be a cool project if I could make it happen...

The Case for Working With Your Hands

There's an interesting article at nytimes.com called The Case for Working With Your Hands that covers the appeal of getting down and dirty and fixing things with your hands. Instead of getting lost in cubicle land, the author encourages people to get away from alternate universe corporate realities and dive into a world where you can easily see the results of your actions. The trades suffer from low prestige, and I believe this is based on a simple mistake. Because the work is dirty, many people assume it is also stupid. This is not my experience. I have a small business as a motorcycle mechanic in Richmond, Va., which I started in 2002. I work on Japanese and European motorcycles, mostly older bikes with some "vintage" cachet that makes people willing to spend money on them. I have found the satisfactions of the work to be very much bound up with the intellectual challenges it presents. And yet my decision to go into this line of work is a choice that seems to perplex many people. The Case for Working With Your Hands

Nintendo Gamecube case ideas

I love the Gamecube, it's my favourite "retro" console out there! My platinum cube has worked fine since the day I got it, but my friend was not so lucky. She stored it terribly, and when it broke beyond repair she gave it to me to have a look at: but not even recalibrating the laser could resurrect the console. She said I could keep it, so that got me thinking about what I could turn this dead console into.  So far I was thinking: -iPod dock with speakers -DVD player -Computer (not unlike the NES PC) -Media HUB (butcher an cheap MP3 player and some speakers perhaps) Can anyone think of any other suggestions? And not something mundane like a lunch box, but something really cool! I was definitely thinking of adding LEDs to it, to give it the "Alienware" look! Here's a picture of the case, no idea how this would help but still I suppose it's a size comparison to a mini-disc! Also, the computer thing has been done once before, it's called the "Pcube" if you want to Google it or something, it's pretty sweet! Thanks for your suggestions!

how to desing a case (box) virtualy ? Answered

Hello everybody. (Dr. Nick accent) I'm currently doing some electronics projects (atx PSU, clocks, getting my brother into electronics, ...), and i reach the inevitable step of where to put them. I want to put them into nice cases (boxes), tried to find some already made and adapt them to my needs but TOO EXPENSIVE!!!! so i thought, if my PCBs for my projects are DIY why cant my cases be DIY too? I tried to make case projects manually but there was allways some thing not right (most of times i forgot the thickness of the materials D'OH), so i tryed Google SketchUp, and now i caught up 123D by Autodesk, both not very through investigated. I'm trying to get a piece of software that let me do my plans (3D if possible), and if let me deconstruct the project into some printable layouts  to guide me cutting some wood derivate or plexiglass (no acess to a laser cutter). What do you think i should use, one of the already mentioned or a new 1? thank you in advance instructables community (for all the english communicators i must apologize for the grammer)

MacBook Pro Case fix-up

So, I made this case last year in July-ish, It used to be a Speck(™) Fitted Case. The old fabric was white plaid but it was getting discolored, so I decided to be creative and take an old shirt of mine that didn't fit and cut it to the shape of the MacBook Pro case. I then peeled off the old fabric and placed the shirt on the case, and I bought Fabric Spray Glue from Michaels and sprayed the shirt till it stayed immobile and flat to the case. I then used a razor to cut off tattered pieces but now the glue wears off on the edges and the fabric isn't as stretchy anymore because I cut so much off the shirt.  I was wondering if anyone had any good tips for a nice "guy-styled" trim to put around the case to cover up the annoying saggy fabric? The material on this case already has black studs all over.

Suggestions for painting an Invicta diving case?

So I've got some Instructables in mind for painting a Nerf Maverick. (Wait, you said you were painting an Invicta diving case...) Yes, you're right. The case will be a custom painted case to house a custom painted Nerf Maverick for a Christmas present. However, I have some questions about how to paint it. The case has a rough outside made from what I suspect to be high-impact plastic. The inside is smooth plastic with removable foam inserts and a rubber gasket seal. I know I will have to sand the inside to make the paint stick, but my question is if the outside is already a rough textured plastic, will I need to sand it as well? Also, what paints and finishes do you suggest for painting this case?  The Invicta logo on the back will need to be sanded (although I suppose I could leave it since they manufactured the case). The picture shows what my case looks like, minus the graffiti image. Thanks in advance, and God Bless!
