Circuitry for lighting

Hey all, I have never really done much circuitry to this date, but I was hoping to make a fairly complex lamp that may require a good dose of it. What I'm looking to do is wire four cold cathode tubes (12V, the kind that are used to light computers), as well as two LED lights with arduino based flicker control, and run them off of a wall socket? The pictures are a (very) rough sketch of the setup, as well as a supply list. Is there any way someone could explain what this might require to me in baby terms? All the best, Adrian

Circuitry help needed!

So I'm working on a project to build a binary clock style watch. I have found a fairly simple system to replicate though I plan to downsize the circuit to fit within roughly a 40x40mm area, the height I am not too concerned about right now. Here is the link to the project I plan to replicate: with the circuit presented I plan to break it into two boards(possibly three). The top board would utilize 2.8x3.2mm LED chips and connect them properly for the ATtiny and shift register. The second board would house the resistors, ATtiny, shift register, and buttons. It would connect to the LED board via vertical wires that would pass through the LED board and hold it directly above. On the bottom of the second board would be the battery holder and wires to directly connect the positive and negative leads to the needed inputs from the backside of the board. This would result in the second and third boards being back to back. (And I do plan on designing and etching my own boards for this project)So my questions for you are:I want to add a 16.000 Mhz crystal oscillator to the circuit to increase the accuracy of the internal clock of the ATtiny, so where would I add it in?How could I reduce the output power from the battery to run the system on minimal power so that my battery can last a year or longer?And is there such thing as a dual sided pre-sensitized pcb board I could use to make the circuits?

LED circuitry help

Hello, I am wanting to make an LED circuit consisting of 11 blue LED's and a 9v battery. Can someone tell me which LED's to use, which resistor to use, how the LED's should be aligned (series/parallel), etc. for this? I do not know electricity very well at all and would rather not screw this up. Thank you

A Bit of Circuitry Advice!

Hey all! Me again :D.  So I was messing around with my electronics and decided to make a pulse sensor, but I ran into a couple of problems along the way! My project is based off of this,, but I didn't have a LM324, so I was trying a workaround.  So grabbing my infrared light detector, and new multimeter, hooked my IR sensor up between 5V and and A0 and a 10k resistor from A0 to GND, just like with a light sensor, but obviously, it wasn't sensitive enough, so I kicked it up notch. Since I didn't have the specific amplifier that MAKE used I decided to use what I had, which was a LM358. After visiting the datasheet and finding a schematic, I came up with this circuit (image below). Now it's not sensitive enough yet to measure pulses. The circuit from MAKE makes use of the the 2 of 4 internal op amps in the LM324, and I thought I could make the same circuit on my LM358, since it had two op amps inside of it. So basically, replacing the LM324 int the circuit with a LM358.  The image below is a circuit I made up using just one of the LM358's op amps. Tonight I will try to use both just like in the MAKE circuit.  If you guys could just give me a few pointers and set me on the right track that would be great, or if I even need two amplifiers! Why can't I just make the first one more powerful?  And the capacitor between the - and the output varies. I'm still trying out different caps. The 0.1uf is too much, so I'm experimenting.  Thanks!

Forgive my ignorance on the actual name of these circuits. The circuits I am talking about are those that receive one momentary signal, and then perform a whole series of tasks, without the use of a microcontroller. Thanks!

Circuitry (Electronics) Help/Books

I am looking to expand my electronics knowledge. I already know the basics (and a bit more), so please no suggestions for the basics. I know enough to build my own basic custom circuits. I am very knowledgeable about the Arduino (I use it practically every-day). I know how to use resistors, capacitors, transistors, most diodes (LED, Photo-resistor, current-blocking, one way, zener, etc.), and much more. I am self-taught, but want to further my education. I am VERY interested in robotics (I plan to work in aerospace engineering when I'm older), if that helps any. I am in need of good books to read on. I've gone through most of the projects in Forrest M Mim's books that I got in a kit from radioshack. I really would prefer some eBooks, though. Free is good, but I'll pay if it is necessary. Thanks! Macbook 2005 battery circuitry?

My macbook 2005 battery was holding its charge so i went to buy a new one and they are over 100$ so i found a website from china selling them for 50$ (yes i know it was going to be fake) When i put the fake battery in the mac it isn't detected or work. So i thought okay they sent me a dead battery but when i press the button on the back of it, it blinks green. So i thought to take the circuitry from the dead one and solder it to the Li-ion battery in new one. They are both 10.8v but the fake one is 59Wh and the original is 55Wh will this make a difference or should it be okay?

Lithium Ion protection circuitry?

I was wondering.... The protection circuit for li ion cells in phones; is it a sort of regulator for the battery when charging? Or does it just stop the cell from being drained too far? I was wondering if I could use the circuitry from the prismatic li ions found in mobile phones for a 18650 battery....will the difference in capacity be a problem?

Hi everyone!  I have some 10W LED chip fowardcurrent 1050mA 9-12v I also have 12V 72W with 6.2A output driver. My question is what is the ideal amount of LED to fully utilize my power supply with optimum brightness? Pair up in Series or Parallel? Resistor needed? Sorry for my noobness.

VLSI self test circuitry ?

VLSI testing is process that is used to determine that chip is good or faulty VLSI chip is tested by test equipment and some self test circuit just for example we made microcontroller then we can test by automatic test equipment , we use test vector to determine fault 1.test vector < microcontroller chip > output response 2.test vector output response 3.test vector output response Q I did not understand that self  test circuit and fault model  built within vlsi  chip or we connect   external fault model circuit to test VLSI chip ?

In search of an electronics/circuitry mentor.

I am in search of a skilled and knowledgeable person to mentor me through building an incubator. I currently have about 13 eggs that are in various stages of embryonic development and need help building the appropriate incubator. I have a design and more electronic and circuitry components than you can shake a stick at. I have always tinkered and done investigative teardowns on multiple pieces of equipment. I want to eventually build a large, floor based, multi media 3D printer. ( I have been working on a printer that I salvaged.) My interest is more than curiosity, but, I have no starting point to learn in forward gear. I hope to find a person willing to assist my goal accomplishment and guide me through the process. I have more than I need to do the build, I am willing to discuss a trade of components or whatever comes upon need of the interested  mentor. Please contact me as soon as possible as I have lost a lot of sleep, turning the heating pad on every hour to maintain the temperature for the incubation, and am ready to give the eggs to someone else to raise. Basic circuitry help? [not yet resolved]

(I wasn't sure if this should be a comment on the Instructable or not, as it is a bit long, and I have some pictures..) I am following a sound-reactive LE 1.D tutorial and having a bit of trouble. The circuit consists of a SPDT switch, resistor, LED, transistor, and a 3.5mm stereo jack. When I play music using this stereo jack, I get no response from the LED. I'm trying to make something on a breadboard for the first time, so I'm thinking maybe I'm missing something because of that. Here's how the machine is supposed to work: - Positive charge flows to SPDT switch, and if it's in the correct state, continues to the 150 ohm resistor - Anode of LED is connected to the resistor, and the cathode is connected to the "emitter" lead of a TIP31 transistor ("base" is wired to the power bus) - The "collector" lead of the transistor is attached to one of the outputs on the stereo jack - The ground wire on the stereo jack returns to the common lead of the SPDT switch. Perhaps I wired something wrong? I've included pictures if the description is not sufficient. EDIT: I've modified the circuit a bit - maybe I can take pictures / draw a diagram tomorrow. Now, here's how it works: - Positive charge flows from positive side of the power bus to the "base" lead of the transistor - Collector lead of the transistor is connected to the left-channel lead of the stereo jack (also, the ground pin of the stereo jack is connected to the negative side of the power bus) - Emitter lead of the transistor is connected to a 150-ohm resistor - Resistor is connected in series with two LEDs - The cathode lead of the second LED returns to the negative lead of the power bus The LEDs do turn on now, but that's the problem - they are always at full brightness no matter the volume of the music. Even if no music is playing, the LEDs are fully lit. I've used a multimeter to check what's happening, and after pressing the negative lead of the multimeter to the cathode lead, and the positive lead to the anode lead, it shows a constant voltage of 1.986 V. I don't understand how this isn't working - I've verified that the collector lead is correctly connected to the left-channel wire... maybe I should try the right channel? Or a different cable? tl;dr: Rewired and the LEDs are always at full brightness. Transistor doesn't seem to be affecting the emitter output, for some reason..

How to store and play an audio file in a very simple circuit?

Maybe a better way to put this is: how does something like a talking McDonald's toy or a singing toothbrush store and play audio files? Is storing a 4 minute song possible this way? Much thanks.

solar panel cooler party fun guidance on circuitry..

I am making a "party cooler" i want to add a fm radio and aux port and a usb charge station for atleast 3 devices one multi color time changing led and a removable flashlight white led for the inside (nothting fancy), i have 4 6x6 solar cells rated at .5v 3.5w 6.89a i also want to have the battery bank be able to be plugged in to the wall. i am having problems determining the type of battery to use in the bank (rechargable) i also want it to work for atleast 5 hours(not including device charging), (avg kegger/bonfire/beach fun). if anyone knows what i can add to this thing that would be helpfull. i was thinking of AA batts or possibly a few cell phone batts but if their is a better way. the speakers are 3w each running 5v i havent ben able to determine the fm reciever as of now. or a 3.0 usb charger do the volts and amps have to be specificly 4.7v 5a? or does the +- 25% still apply. if any one has any references to help with simple pcb or freeform wiring are most portable speakers/radios rated 5v? (was in a car accident, lost alot of brain buzz.. be nice (used to build beam bots :P) i would like to try to pick up the basics if anyone has any good refrences. circuit/ electric theory. 38 can cooler bigger rubber wheels will be putting the batt bank on the side under the handle.

Rigging a timer to a motor - Need Help

I'm making a pickup winder, which is simply a high rpm motor attached to a pot and a switch, but I want to attach a timer to it so that the motor stops when the time reaches zero.  If it helps out at all, the timer I'm using is a Radio Shack timer, catalogue number 63- 248.  If any of you folks could help me out at all with this project, I would be eternally grateful.

Quick camera charger question

Before I get started, I've been always posting in this forum section. This is the right section to ask questions right....? I got a camera charger. I want to cut it so it charges A LOT faster (easily proven true) Now. Here's te problem. Most tutorials, show a diode on the board. They say "keep the diode on!" Well, I got 3 circuits. All the same. The problem: The diodes, are on the opposite side of the board. If i cut it like most tutorials say, ill be cutting the diodes off. Maybe other important links. Any suggestions? I thought there was a way to do something similar like this, without cutting the board... Yet still charge fast. Like something doing with bridging a part?

Advice for a three-LED circuit w fading changes

Hey folks, I'd like to put together a circuit with three LEDs, all different colours, and the ability to fade between them at will. It's for a Sims costume, so the LEDs will be about a foot above my head in an enclosed and I'll need to conceal the switch somewhere on my person, like a pocket or under a shirt. I know pretty much zero about practical electronics, so I don't even know what terms to search with. If anyone can point me towards an existing instructable, or even just give advice on what components I might need to use, that would be sweet :) Edited to add: because I know nada about electronics, I'd like to be able to do this with simple components. I know this could be done with an arduino, but I can count the number of times I've soldered with one hand, and my last programming was on my TI graphing calculator.

Need help with a circuitry/Electoronics DIY

Hey Instructables community, I am currently attempting a project of mine and have come across a dilemma. I have 2 3v motors X and Z, 2 1.5v AAA batteries hooked up into a battery pack, and 2 momentary switches A and B (normally open). I need to power the motors X and Z at the same time going in the same direction (clockwise we will say), whilst holding down momentary switch A. And then when I release momentary switch A, and press and hold momentary switch B, the motors will travel in the opposite direction, (counter clockwise for ex). I know to reverse the direction of a motor you have to flip the polarity and such, and could use a simple rocker on-off-on switch to do it, but I need it to able to be do this with momentary switches, if this involves creating a circuit board or something complected like that, that isn't a problem. If you are willing to help me out (which would be nice!) a diagram of how all the electronics and wires should be laid out would be sufficient, and preferably being game to answer maybe 1 or 2 questions while i'm building my project would be cool too, if you have good know how and easy to work with, I could paypal you like 5 bucks or something when the project is all done if it all turns out good when its done. Thanks

Flyback driver from monitor circuitry?

So i've been into hv stuff for years,currently engineering undergraduate, just never did anything practical. So recently we got a new microwave, therefore old microwave= junkyard ^_^. Anyway, i acquired a MOT i also took the capacitor and diode, and the magnetron (never know when you could crave instant cooked meat ^_^ kidding). Then a few days later (last week) someone left a computer monitor outside on the sidewalk, which equals source of flyback ^_^. clearly someone up there wants me to play around with hv (or is it someone down there..?) and so thats how i  came into possession of a flyback. i could have had one a while back, we had a big tv, which had one of the big old flybacks which are way better than modern ones, but this is before i knew about flybacks and so i dismissed it as some large this day im still slapping my forehead over the fact that i let that go... Naturally, i have a few questions: 1. I hooked up the mot to mains (deadly i know) but the arcs were insane. i tried ballasting it with a cfl bulb, 15 watts, however, when connected the mot did nothing. touching the hv to ground only made the cfl brighter. why? 2. i pulled the flyback with the circuit, i actually took out the whole board from the computer monitor. how can i use this as a driver? i know i could pull components out and make one but seems to me whats already there would be good enough. 3. Found out i can use a cfl to drive the flyback, can i also use this for the mot? one other thing, i was thinking of using the mains transformer (torriodal transformer) from the monitor to power the mot and/or flyback, using it as a step-up or step-down transformer. Is this possible with the flyback? Thanks, and sorry for the loong question im just excited ^_^

Make a small battery operated spark gap?

I want to make a potato gun but I don't want to use a grill ignitor (unreliable) and I don't really want to buy a taser (kind of expensive) to light it. I would really like to build some simple battery powered high voltage circuit capable of making a small spark or operating a spark plug. I would like it to meet these requirements. 1. Minimal circuitry. 2. No flyback. 3. Fits in/on an altoids tin I'm still just beginning to understand circuitry so the less complex the better.

PLEASE HELP!! (sonic grenade)

I'm trying to make an insanely powerful, directional sonic grenade. all I need to know, is how in the world to get something smaller than my fist to put out between 300 and 600 DB however, there is a small catch. I want it to put out a pre-recorded sound that I designate. not just a random beeping.

Solenoid Valve Question:Power supply for a VERSA VSG-3521-U-D024?

I found a set of versas VSG 3521 and I cant seem to find the correct way to power them up in a circuit. From what I know they need 24V dc and 9.5 watts. I calculated that they need .395 amps is that right? Does anyone have any suggestions for a circuit that incorporates them, a power supply and a switch? Thanks for all your help!!!!!

I want to build a photovore with a rechargeable battery, but I have zero experience and I have no idea how to wire it.

Example photovore: I want to include both an on on/off switch and a battery (not included in any photovore schematics I've found), allowing the robot to run off of both solar and battery power so it doesn't die in shadows (and maybe make it take steps a bit faster in the sunlight?), and have the solar cell recharge the battery when switched off.

How to read a Forrest Mims schematic?

I love the forrest mims books. they are very informative, however, many of his schematics which i have attempted to assemble have failed. His schematics are the only ones i have trouble with. I have had many successful circuits with schematics from the internet or other books. For some reason though, i just cant put his together.  The circuit i am currently having trouble with is the "Dual LED Flasher" From his book "Getting Started in Electronics". There is a picture of the schematic below. Note how he explains one set of resistors and not the other. Also how do i connect R1 and C1 with Q1's collector? Same with Q2?  I have put this circuit together about 10 different ways and my results are always the same: two LEDS which stay on constantly. this is very frustrating. any advice would help. Please be very specific. it would be especially helpful if you could put it together successfully (on a breadboard, that is) and take a picture.

Circuit board heat Trouble. Answered

Full disclaimer, I am still learning and at my current skill level I am essentially following a picture book showing how to hammer a nail then emulating it, Hope that analogy paints the picture correctly. Now for the problem! I have embarked on a journey of growth and learning, in said adventure I took a personal challenge of building something and hopefully learning in the process. Needless to say I did learn, some lessons more painfully than others (soldering Irons are HOT *Sigh*) but I am at an impasse. You should see attached (hopefully) one schematic and two photos. The schematic correlates to the board of course. The next two are of the silkscreen on the board (empty) and the board upon "completion". If you notice in the empty board photo I have drawn your attention to a specific area, the area in question. In this area there seems, during testing, a decent amount of heat build up. Now this may be normal, I do not know. The device calls for the use of three Protected 18650 Lithium Batteries (3.7V I believe). I attempted to do a continuity test with what I thought was under voltage, in hindsight, I'm not sure whether the power cells are in series or parallel so perhaps I was not under? anywho that is when I noticed the heat in that area. I hope I have illustrated my predicament enough for a solid enough understanding, If not I apologize. Please ask any information you require.

How can convert a 12v power supply to 3v?

I am working on a laser spirograph project, I am using 12v dc fans on the inside but also want to power a 3v laser diode off the same source. Does anyone know how I can allow the full 12v to be used on the fans but drop down the voltage for the laser?

Using an electric shock to trigger an arduino. (doorknob variety)

I was thinking a transistor, how does one make ~20000v at 5mA useful. Do I use a capacitor or a coil of some type? Do I NEED an amp? Will it be jittery? I was even looking at those alfoil leaf static detectors and imagining some sort of field detecting reed switch.. ? Think frankenstiens lab: lightning=reaction :)

What resistor(s) will I need for my IR LED Circuit?

I'm going on information obtained on the net so please bear with me! I'm intending to use eight 200mw triple IR Leds wired together using a nine volt power source (battery). What resistors will I need and how many? I've already seen a diagram on how to assemble the circuit but some confirmation would be greatly appreciated as the previous threads on the subject were somewhat debated.

How can I wire a recorder cut-in box?

So, a little background: I'm a reporter, and I do a lot of telephone interviewing. There's currently not an app that works reliably for my phone to record both sides of a call, and given that I already have a very nice standalone voice recorder (sony ICD820) that has line in/line out functionality, I'd like to have a way to run the signal from my phone into the recorder, record it, and then pass it on to a headset with a mic on it. The problem is that the recorder only has 3.5 mm stereo in/out (TRS), with no separate mic channel, so if I connect the (TRRS - mic/l/r/ground) cable from my phone directly into the recorder, then connect my headset to the 'line out' port, it ends up distorting badly, and not recording the mic channel. As a temporary solution I A) use two "Y" cables (one connected to the phone, and one to my headset) to split the mic from the audio channels, then B) feed the audio channels into and back out of the line in/out ports on the recorder, and then C) use a coupler to mate the two mic channels. This puts the recorder in-line on the audio channel(s) only, and routes the mic channel directly from my phone to my headset (picture attached). This works great, but it's bulky and delicate, and obviously only records the incoming side of the conversation.  THE QUESTION: How can I wire a box that will give me the ability to "cut in" a recorder on a TRRS source, which is delivering (potentially) stereo audio channels along with a mic channel - ie, up to three channels - so that the recorder is recording all three channells? (note: it does not matter if some/all of the channels are merged). WOULD IT WORK TO wire a box that A) summed the Left and Right channels from the phone using resistors on each channel (see the picture in the link), and B) fed the summed audio and the mic lines into the Left and Right pins of a TRS plug, respectively, to give the recorder a stereo source? I have put together a crude diagram of what I think this could look like (note that the diagram includes a DPDT switch to 'cut in' the recorder, but I would likely omit this in the final design for simplicity). Additional question: I have seen wildly varying info on what size resistors to use on the summing circuit, and also conflicting information as to whether I need a third on the ground (???). The simplest I have seen is just using a 1K resistor on each of the incoming channels. Given that these are just standard headphone/passive mic voltages, what size resistors would I need, and where in the circuit? Questions from a beginner in electronics/DIY.

Hey all! I am trying to get started in electronics and don't know how to begin. I have done some basic soldering and junk and made really basic stuff but i want to actually learn about electronics. I want to learn how a transistor amplifies current and how to design a circuit to do a task on my own. I want to do projects as a move along but the Make book on beginning electronics isn't what i am looking for, for one it is really expensive to get the pieces with it and second i also want the theory behind it not just the how to build. I hear The Art of Electronics is good but it is over 1000 pages and most of it is extremely bland! I just want a good couple hundred page book that will teach me all the basics of electronics as well as show me some neat projects to do. (also what should i buy after i master the basics?) I also want to know how you guys got your workshops up and running. I see so many posts about people just casually saying that they took their dremmel to a sheet of plexiglass. I don't own any plexiglass and i sure as hell don't own a dremmel. I feel like there are SO many cool projects that i simply will never be able to build because it reuires a custom made wodden box, or this or that, what have you. How do most people on here think of that? Do you guys all have workshops will all these tools? How does a beginner go about not getting overwhelmed when a neat project calls for some custom made piece and thinks "well there goes that project! I will NEVER be able to make one of those! I dont have the machining experience or the tools!"? My third question is what tools i will need to get into electronics. I have a soldering iron but i don't know what else i should get. The obvious tools are multimeter, wire cutters, wire strippers, etc. What are the best brands and where do i get these? What do i do about components? Do you guys just have a place where you have all your components that you might need on hand and only order specific ones? For instance, should i order a bunch of transistors, capacitors, potentiometers, etc and just organize them so i have them to pull out when a project calls for it? Or should i do things on a project-by-project basis? Also how do you organize all your components? What are some good commercial organization bins and what techniques do you guys use? (preferably i want a drawer-type organization, not a bag type). Also should i purchase and arduino? I am not new to programming (i know C, and Python) but is it the right time to purchase one as a beginner? I see all this talk about using a specific "shield" for a project and i get uncomfortable thinking that i can't do anything with just and arduino. Also i dont want to have to dismantle a project if it relies on a microcontroller but I really dont want to have to buy an arduino for each project i do! How do you reconcile this? Sorry for so many questions but i am excited to get started

Circuitry help needed - microcontroller in binary clock

Ok, so I am currently working on a project which involves some circuitry and programming. I am planning to make a simple binary watch. Now with my current plan I am planning on making 2-3 circuit boards depending on what I can get. The first circuit board will connect the leds for the time read. It will be a standard four column hour and minute binary clock readout. The second board will contain an ATtiny85 microcontroller, a 74HC595 8-bit shift register, two push buttons, two 10k ohm resistors, and four 220 ohm resistor. The third board will be glued to the bottom of the second board for the battery holder and some extra space to add wire tracing. Now I plan to design and etch my own pcb boards and solder them together. Though for the second and third board being glued together would add a bit of thickness so I am wondering if I can buy a dual sided pre-sensitized circuit board to etch?Thes plans are based off the work of another user on here, link to his clock below: Credit to him for this great and simple system. With my very limited knowledge and understanding of circuitry and programming, this is one of the most straightforward clocks I have found. This is general format I will try to follow, though I do wish to make some modifications to the circuit or program based on what is possible with the circuit setup. First I am concerned about the power consumption of the system and how I can reduce the supplied power to make it run on a watch battery and run for about a year if possible or longer. Second I know that adding a crystal oscillator can improve the accuracy of the clock by synchronizing the internal clock on a set frequency. So with that, how would I add a 16 Mhz crystal oscillator to the circuit? The program that is given in the project runs based on the internal 16 Mhz internal clock of the ATtiny85. Third question is what system works best to program the ATtiny85? I have a Raspberry Pi 3B+ and I also have Syper IDE and I am fairly good at programming with python. So could I program the ATtiny85 with my Raspberry pi and use python? Or would I have to use a different board and language to program the micocontroller?

Programming help needed!

So I'm currently working on a project to build a binary clock style watch. I have found a pretty straight forward and simple project to replicate. The project does give a code to upload to an ATtiny85 so that the project will work. Now I noticed that he was programming his ATtiny with an Arduino board and I assume he used a different coding language than python(which is what I am familiar with). Here is the link to the project for more info: I have a Raspberry Pi 3B+, and I have Anaconda, Spyder, and Jupyter on my computer which I have used before to create standalone programs. My question is can I use my raspberry pi to program an ATtiny85 or would I need a different board to program it? And second how simple is it to program the ATtiny?

Convert A/C to Battery Pack?

Ok here is what i wanna do, and your all gonna think I am crazy, but this is mostly for my little girl.  I want to take a very cheap dvd player and another cheap video screen, (the kind you find for the back of auto head rests) and glue them together, make a battery pack, and wire the two together to the pack and, the point is I have the devices and they both are rather low energy draw devices, so i just need to know if I can make a battery pack or perhapse a radioshack project battery holder and how many batts I would need etc.. I will admit the math is a bit confusing for me. but here it is, the dvd player is rated as AC 120 v, and it says it has a draw of 10w, which if I am not mistaken is very low drain and awesome for an ac device.  the monitor is DC with an adapter but can also have an optional car adapter (which I don't have, but I would just use the transformer's cord/jack to wire it in.)  The back of the monitor says it's DC output is 1.2A and again 12v and the transformer itself says it's input is 24w.  So if my math is right, I am looking to make a battery supply to support a total of 34 watts and then I will use both cords to wire them parallel to a battery pack that I need to make, so where I need the help is what kind of a batt pack do I need to make or is it even possible?

Can I make an LCD screen show me what an Image Sensor is viewing? Answered

Hey, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how I could wire up an Image Sensor and a small LCD screen to show me what the Image Sensor is viewing - I know that this is done in Digital Cameras, Camcorders by the viewfinder (I'm looking to make something a bit like that), but I was wondering how I could make a circuit that only showed me how to view what the image sensor was viewing without the extras of taking photos/recording videos.

Hacking a DC motor to make a generator. RPM vs. Voltage weirdness, gear ratio confusion, and general circuit questions?

I'm hacking an ancient 115 Volt DC water boiler motor to try and make a small, portable, "dremel" generator (meaning it does different things with different attachments). Doing a rudimentary test of it, with a small diode hooked to the wires, I found that it only puts out about .01 volts when being cranked by hand. So I figured I'd put my drill to good use, hook it to the rotor, and let it fly. Through this, I found that after 60 RPM, the voltage goes completely zero, even when spinning at around 220 RPM, nothing. I am completely bamboozled by this, which might have something to do with my limited electronics knowledge and my tendency to try and 'run before I can walk' in new things. I was also wondering if the low voltage could be solved by using gears and gear ratios, but my knowledge of those subjects is very limited indeed. If anyone can explain or converse with me on this, please do! I'd greatly appreciate any and all help.

Microcontroller help!

So I'm working on a project to build a binary clock style watch, though I have very limited experience and knowledge about circuitry and microcontrollers. As of right now I have found a relatively simple project on this site I wish to replicate and downsize to fit in the size of a watch. The design of the circuit is based off the layout in this project: I have read up on microcontrollers and microprocessors. I also read some stuff about oscillators and how they can work to essentially synchronize the internal clocks of microcontrollers making them more accurate for clock uses. First is this true that a crystal oscillator can improve the accuracy of a microcontroller? And if so, how could I add a 16.000 Mhz crystal oscillator to the circuit presented above? (I want to use a 16.000 Mhz oscillator because the code written for the microcontroller is based on the 16 Mhz internal clock, so this should line up fine)Thanks if you can answer these questions!

Where can a total beginner go to get learn electronics and schematics specifically with audio projects in mind? Answered

I'd really like to get into the electronic side of music, but have no idea where to start. Some of the projects here are very interesting, particularly those that have to do with sound creation and modulation. My end goal is to be able to design my own circuits for analog amps, guitar pedals, and perhaps even synthesizers and vocoders. However, for now I don't have any idea of how electronics work, nor where to start. I've been told that kits might help, but does anybody have any specific places to start? I'd love to learn basic electronic theory, but especially how certain components create or change sounds. Thanks!

H-Bridge Circuit Help

Hello,I have an assignment to build an H-bridge circuit to control the direction of a motor with two buttons. The only materials I can use are depicted in the image; only three resistors, a battery pack, two button switches and an L283D chip. Based on the template given to me, I constructed the circuit as shown in the picture but it does not work. It looks very messy and I'm sure there's an easier way, but I just want to get it working first. If anyone knows what I'm doing wrong here I'd appreciate it.

Battery Wiring?

I have new Li-ion batteries for my mac but i wasn't completely sure on how to wire it up to the old circuitry. I know that "vg" is the ground and the "vp" is the positive. I am assuming "vl" goes to the wire "vl" i dont know what that is thought.  But there is a "vh" spot on the new battery but on the old circuitry there was no wire going to there? Do I solder that wire there? There is also two very thin wires labeled ntc, i can not find a spot on the old circuitry for that is it necessary?

Making a mega multi-port usb rapid charger?

I'd like to build a usb rapid charger with a minimum of 8 ports (but the more the merrier, 16 would be ideal) that can provide a minimum of 1A per port (2A preferred for rapid charging).  I'm thinking, for a smaller foot print, that I could use a 250W mini ITX power supply, but I don't know how much I can get away with putting on the 5v rail alone.  I'm willing to build circuits to use the other voltage outputs if necessary, but I know very little about circuit design and would need to be able to find appropriate schematics at the least, if not actual pcb kits.  Each usb needs to provide stable power, regardless of how many other devices are plugged in, for picky devices.  The devices to be charged are all Samsung.  If I'm not mistaken, I should be able to put them in rapid charge mode by connecting the two data lines on each port, but I'm open to suggestions, in case the charger is later used for Apple products.  I plan to have a fuse for each port, perhaps 3A.  Would I need a bigger fuse further upstream for the whole charging circuit?  Say, 24A?  Also, if any other outputs will be used besides the built in 5v, I'd like to find the most efficient means of using these, the less waste-heat produced, the better.  I feel like there is probably enough information on the webs to put this together, but I'm finding conflicting info, and since the device will not always be under my direct supervision, it needs to be fool-proof and safe. Is there anyone out there who can teach me to circuit bend, create/re-purpose circuitry, use Arduino?

Recently, I've become fascinated with Instructables involving re-purposing gadgets, gizmos, and gears. I want to learn some basics before I start dismantling my old cell phone or cd player, but I don't know anyone I can ask. And even if I did know someone, I'm not sure I would know WHAT to ask. I'm at the beginning of a machine and motherboard addiction, I can feel it. Do you know any good dealers? _Science on the Side_
