Wrist Computer

I'm developing a holder for my Droid smart phone, that would allow me to use it like a wrist computer, while protecting the phone at the same time. Would anyone be interested in an instructable? I could make it so that the plans would be adaptable to most any touchscreen smart phone (I can't promise it would work for every phone, but I'll try to make the plans as universally adaptable as I can.)

Male and Female ports/adapters

I just realized why computer or plumbing parts are called male and female. The female one is the one you stick something into right? The male one is the one you stick into something. I'm just saying who ever named them must have a weird mind. I realized this when one of my friends made a joke, so please don't say I am perverted.

correct materials to make, or how to make, or if exists usb camera to rca vid out?

It seems i cannot find it anywhere but it is a usb camera to rca out processor chip, what you do is, you plug the power in via 5 volt ac adapter, bigger webcams require more current, 5 volt cause that is usb standard voltage, and for simplicity, then you plug the chip into the computer and continue on loading the camera driver files onto the memory chip in the board, once done, unplug from computer, plug in camera in the camera port and then rca video cable to the tv. now the only problem is figuring out how to make it, i have no idea how or what type of processor chips to use, let alone the tools to make them, if they are available somewhere i'd love to know where, if not if someone could make it for me. i someone could make it for me, my email is bluefunnymen@yahoo.com the most basic layout is the picture of this chip, there are no audio outs on this chip but there is an audio processor on it, i dont really much care wether or not it has audio

USB to ps/2 keyboard adapter

I gather that computers that only have ps/2 sockets (no usb connectors) cannot simply use a basic adapter for plugging in a usb keyboard. I have never tried. Would it be possible to create an adapter to allow a usb keyboard to be used with such a pre-usb computer ? I found one arduino project that converted ps/2 to usb and I imagine that to be more difficult.

Usb to audio out adapter?

Some stereos now have female usb sockets built into them to play music from a memory stick. Mine does not, which is why I am looking to make/buy a usb to 3.5mm audio out device that can read the files on my memory stick and output them as audio. I have done a concept picture using professional editing software 'Paint', but the sd card reader is not really that necessary. It could also be battery powered, the picture is just a basic idea of what I want. I have spare computers I could raid for parts if I need. Any help would be appreciated either building or buying such a device, but low costs for both are a big need.

i have an old joystick and game-pad for the PC that i need to be able to run on my newer computer

I have an old joystick and game-pad for the PC that i need to be able to run on my newer computer, i got them both from abandoned storage bins, and they use 15 pin connectors, but unfortunately my PC does not have those connections, i have recently started to try my hand at video-game programming and i either need a new joystick, an XBOX 360 controller, or a way to hook the controllers i have up to USB for as cheap or free as possible. i would like any help people can give me. P.S. And yes, i know about the adapters @  http://www.amazon.com/Gameport-Adapter-Joysticks-Controllers-Gamepads-Pc/dp/B0024ZWL4M/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid;=1316209342&sr;=8-17 P.P.S. i am leaning towards the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick (second Pic), but i'm not sure if it's the best, any suggestions?

How to uninstall and reinstall a network adapter? Answered

My title is a simplified version of my problem. I accidentally clicked uninstall instead of disable on my wireless network adapter. I don't have the CD to install it. My WLAN adapter is a Cisco Linksys WUSB54GC Wireless Network Adapter version 3. I've uninstalled the device multiple times but when I reinstall it, it simply says 'The name is already in use or a service display name' and then when I go back to device manager it says the name of the adapter and then a #14 and the next time I attempt to reinstall it, it says #15 then #16 and so on. What I am doing is I'm going to device manager, updating the driver software for my adapter, then clicking 'Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer' and then clicking 'Have Disk' and choosing the netr system information file. After that, that's when it gives me the name is already in use or a service display name error. I've reset my computer a couple times, searched bing and google a lot and got similar problems but none specific to my situation. Please help, I don't recall trying to install or uninstall in any certain order so my mess there could have corrupted something, maybe. Thanks!

Is there a way to convert an old laptop LCD screen into a useable monitor or even tv?

I took the LCD screen out of an old Dell laptop. The connection to the lcd screen appears custom to dells. It has a connection that plugs directly into the video card in the motherboard and is thus useless. Is there any way to create (or buy) some sort of adapter so that the end could be either vga or rca and would thus be useful?

Motherboard IDE to USB Device Adapter, Parallel to USB Device, or Serial to USB Device, Adapter Needed for Old Computer.

Hello, I have a Compaq Presario 220C. I know it is very old, but it has great sound, runs windows 95 great, and most importantly it has high sentimental value. The only thing holding me up from making use of it, is that It does not have an ethernet or USB port. It has the following ports available on the motherboard: ISA 8-Bit (Which has low clearance room to fit a card in and not clearance to the right or left either) Parallel Port Game Port IDE Floppy IDE Serial Port I am desperate and very determined to somehow be able to connect a USB Drive or an ethernet port on this computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much, HandyAndy

My desktop is conected to my home network but cant access the internet?

Yesterday my desktop was working fine and could conect to the internet no problem, today it will connect to the network but has no internet access. My laptop and phone both connect and have internet just fine. I have reset my router and modem and that didnt help. I changed it so my Ip addess and DNS where not automatic and that did nothing. Currently it is set back to automatic and it is giving me no default gateway and the IPv4 Address is not what it should be. Like i said earlier, i have no idea what could have caused this as it just happened when i turned on my pc this morning.   Here is my Ipconfig /all from my desktop (the ipconfig /all for my laptop is below) Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation.  All rights reserved. I just installed windows xp pro on my system but some internet sites will not load. What do I do?

I literally installed windows xp pro sp2 on my desktop last night. The next thing I did was install the driver for the wireless adapter. That is it, nothing else is on the computer. Then when I go to certain internet sites the browser either freezes, slows way down, or will only show part of the page. What do I do?

I,m trying to control a computer that is on a VPN and it wont allow and connection or programs running like I mentioned. I could get by only controlling the mouse of the other computer from the frist.

Where should I plug in my computer to my old stereo system? Answered

I have a stereo system that is very old and doesn't have a place specified for computers. I have a number of things plugged into it, and the only remaining spots are: Tape-2 (Monitor), VDP, VCR-1, and VCR-2. Which would be best to plug the computer output into? (I've got it all set up with adapters so it fits the RCA plugs). Thanks.

How do I delete the OS on an old hard drive without deleting the data on it? Answered

I have a somewhat oldish IDE drive that was in my old laptop before it died, the hard drive is fine, the power port went out on the computer and I recycled the computer, but I kept the hard drive. It still has XP installed on it and I want to get the files in it. If I just plugged it into a USB adapter can I just drag them off? Or is there something more complicated?

can i adapt recovered laptop camera to a usb?

I have a webcam recovered from broken laptop. i want to  use it with another computer through a usb port. i'm hoping all i need to do is properly attach wire harness to usb cord, download drivers to comp, and run. i'm sure it can't be that easy. the camera: Rose_2G/ CN0316-S30C-0V06-1/ VA-R02.02.02 the overall project if i can get past this step is to use it for a 'pinhole' door camera to be waterproofed and put behind the siding.

Hook up stereo speakers to computer for surround sound

Alright, if theres already an instructable on this, I apologize, and could someone point me to it, otherwise, here's my question: I have a set of stereo speakers, the ones with the clips that you use to hold in the wire, so it has no plug. The only stereo set I have has no outputs, no white and red RCA jacks, or anything, and I do not have any other reciever. Is there any sort of adapter I could buy or build cheap (easily, preferably) to let me plug two of those into a standard 3.5 mm miniplug? my goal is to use those as rear speakers for my computer's 5.1 surround, as they have good base and treble, and my 2.1 channel set that I was using there crapped out. Thanks!

DVI / VGA to USB over Bluetooth?

I do graphic design and computer animation.   I am making my own wireless drawing tablet.  I have a bluetooth pressure sensitive drawing tablet.   A 16" (16x9) laptop display, bluetooth adapters, dvi / vga to usb adapters and various strong enough rechargeable batteries. The tablet is bluetooth enabled.  The display is using a dvi / vga to usb adapter.  Everything is working. What i need to figure out is how to stream my low res display from usb to bluetooth over to my computer's bluetooth. Any ideas?

How do I find what wireless cards are compatible with my ubuntu computer?

I have a computer that is running ubuntu that needs a wireless adapter.  I bought a Linksys wireless USB adapter, but ubuntu won't run the installation software.  It shows it as a drive that I can open, but I can't run the installation process.  I installed WINE, but am not sure if it will work for this application, although I am very new to WINE's use.  Recommendations on how to make this adapter work are appreciated, or, if it will not work then a recommendation to a website with a list of ubuntu-compatible wireless hardware is appreciated.  Thanks!

comp. screen with many ports, TV compatible? Answered

Apart from a VGA plug, my computer screen has a bunch of plugs. One of these is supposed to be a composite video port, but none of my cables fit. Do I need to splice some wires or just move 5 feet to my TV? (also, I'm not sure if it's PAL or NTSC. or if this would matter.) If I have to replace the plug on the screen, that's not a problem. link to screen page [EDIT] I made a butt-ugly adapter for the composite port, no luck there. Another Edit V=Vertical, not video

How can i make a rc care controlled by a keyboard?

Okay so I'm making this rc car/robot, decked out with the works. Right now, in my design plans, I'm planning on it including a webcam (with usb adapter) a Walkie Talkie system, so communicate is possible through this, a flamethrower for self defense, and yeah, a lot of the works. ANYWAYS..... I need to be able to control all of these functions and its mobile stuff from a distance, and a keyboard is the only thing i can think of that would have enough buttons to do this. Any suggestions on how to wire all this stuff to remote controls from my keyboard?
