I need to power two stepper motors off of 7.4VDC, and am trying to figure out the best, most cost efficient way. What type of DC booster circuit would be best for this application? Do I need any noise filter? If yes, what kind? If I understand correctly, Stepper motors need a constant current. Does this limit my selection of DC boosters/step up devices?

I am building a charger for my apple device, which requires exactly 5V (According to the internet) I am using a voltage booster to get from 3.7V to 5V but the booster outputs about 5.1 - 5.2V. I need a way to drop either 0.1V or 0.2V using a resistor or something. anyone know which one to use? Thanks.

Hi all. Here is my question. I want to take 3 Solar Cells (9V, 500mA) wired in parallel (1.5A output) and run them through a DC to DC USB Boosting Circuit (5V) Now I know this circuit will boost up to 5V, but what if 6-9V comes in to it? Will it just limit to 5V running through, with no boost, or will it "fry" it? One more question: What if I wanted to have the 9V, 1.5A of the parallel solar cells route into a Mini-USB port that can take 2 amp in? Same problem, or no problem? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

I cut 2 USB Cables, connected + with + and - with - from each Cable and connected it to the DC-DC booster. The amperage is not doubled and the output Volts are lower than 5V which should be the constant output of the booster. The panels were solar oriented and the output was only 0.02 A with Bright enough sun from those 2 solar panels. The panels separately work fine, it is only when I connect them to the booster that they act weird.Is the problem in booster or is it me doing something wrong?Thank you!

Hi again, I need some ideas on what type of DC-DC or DC-AC converter I can use to convert 9V into 6kV. the 9V will be a standard 9V battery. The output current doesn't need to be high. It's for charging a 6kV capacitor, and this May take a few seconds. It doesn't need to be charged in a few milliseconds. My own suggestions are these: - DC-DC booster (switching a coil to get high voltage spikes) but these only generate 200V max I think - DC-AC inverter like those small CCFL inverter circuits - Flyback - not compact enough - booster or inverter connected to a marx generator - but also not compact enough - ... any other ideas? It also doesn't matter if the output is AC or DC, I'll just add a HV diode to rectify it. Although, that also takes some space and it has to be Really compact. I know that converting 9V into 6kV might not sound like a simple thing, at least if I want to do it in one stage, but I've seen videos where people convert the voltage from a 1.5V battery into 4inch sparks. (that was with a marx generator too though).

Hi Instructables community! I am building a K9 robot - one that is going to be covered in solar cells-in such a way that I get a voltage / current ratio of a pretty high number. I plan to charge my SLA partially via these cells so I can lengthen the space between charges. Unfortunately, my 6V 4.5Ah SLA battery is charged via a plugin adapter and I do not wish to pull it apart unless there is no other choice - so is there are a way I can charge my battery from a constant DC voltage? If so, do any of you know what voltage/currents I'd need to feed it? I can get most any current/voltage specs via transistors and voltage boosters - just I don't know the equation. Hello. i have an LCD monitor powered from AC, that i want to make to be powered by DC for use in my car. the monitor PSU , supplies the controller with +5v and +14.5v. and i want to power the monitor from a regulated 12v psu. my question is, how would i make a dc booster, from 12v to 14.5 v at 2 ampere? thanks in advance!!

Hi guys, tried to make my own minty boost. I used a 3.7v battery 14.8 w/h Dc/dc booster lithium charge controller switch and a blocking diode. my phone when plugged has a smaller charge than when i started charging. I have a diode from the charge controller going to the dc/dc boost and a diode from the incoming solar panel. please help!!

Hello everyone, First thing first. As you know im new to this =) However, im familiar with wiring & soldering some easy parts. I will try describe my problem detailed as possible for future readers with same problem. My Grandmother living on a top of mountain for like 5 months in a year. As you gues, there is no electric. So, i decided to give her indoor lightning with solar enegry and led strip for at least 2-3h in a day. Place where she lives is mostly sunny. I can say thats about full sunny 3 months of 5 and semi-sunny or cloudy 2 months of 5 in total (There will be no autumn or winter usage). I'm not planning to use 5m of strip at one connection. There are 4 rooms in the house. I'm thinking 9 leds (or 12) in each rooms. Lets say 12 for fixed amount talk. That makes 12 x 4 = 48 leds in total. If light would not enough for her, can consider increase led numbers 24 in each rooms. Also dose not excepting light from leds as normal lightning. Just wanting she would be able to see whats around. My plan was simple before starting seacrh (LOL). 1 or 2 entry level solar panel(s). A backup battery (Li-Ion) charged via solar panel. And leds. So, things were not gone as expected of course. I had searched like 5-6 hours about this in past 3 days. I had read every similar situations (or a part of this) that i find on here or somewhere else (other forums). Situations was different all the time. But, i learned a lot. And this is not enough yet. I have learned there are a few types of 12V strip led (Do not remembering the link, sorry). But those are; 2835, 3014, 3528, 5050 and 5730. If i did not get it wrong, when number goes down brightnes goes down too. But, energy consumption goes down too. There are a few things about led strips to know: There is a Power Consumption number for all leds. But, that is not means all 5050 leds will consume same amount or other numbers. And its important about feeding your led strip. It depends on brand or manufacturer. If i didnt get it wrong (again). If you feed your led more than its required Voltage, it means you are grinding its life cycle. It will gonna die faster than normal life time. That is also causing overheat on leds strips. However, not sure if its life time will be longer than normal if you feed it with less Voltage. Forexample; feed 12V led strip with 11V. Did not see anything about it while searching. And last thing that i have learned about leds while searching is, led strips can be different on led numbers on them. Mostly (that i had read) they are 2 types on number. One is 60 leds on 1 meter and other on is 30 leds on 1 meter.
