It seems odd that it's always been fine before, then for no apparent reason shows this?

remote detection persons?

Hello everybody, I live in a very remote area and am looking for a radio guided detection to see/hear when somebody enters my property. Distance from one place to the other minimum 700 meters. I have power but no telephone connecion, nor internet or mobile sources. A simple PIR detector that indicates that somebody (burglars, robbers) enters my private territory. will do; I am desperate after three burglaries. I look forward to any suggestions.  Thank you! arduino uno detection

Hello evry one i've got a weird issue :( i have an arduino uno R3 and it was working fine. now my computer doesn't detect it (i can't find even the com port or non identified devices in the device manager) that was when i was trying a GSM shieled with 9V 2Amp power like the datasheet says the weird thing that when i plug my arduino to the USB 3.0, the light "ON" on the board turn on, but when i plug it to USB 2.0, nothing happen. what i did: i remove evry other connection from the arduino i tried with another cable i tried other devises on my USB 2 and 3, they works fine i tried to use my arduino on another computer, same problem (i dont have another arduino to know what's making this problem) i tried to reset (with button and with jumper) -> the led L does not blink what i think the problem is: probably the problem is in the arduino not the computer maybe when i plugged the power 9V 2Amp and plug to the computer in the same time (and i dnt think it can be a problem) maybe there is a problem with the bootloader please help me, at least how can i know what it the problem, did i harm something or evrything

Motion detection sprinkler

So my neighbours cat uses my garden - my vegetable patches to be exact - as a toilet. I know there are many many people out there just like me who are sick of it. I happen to like cats, used to have one myself, but i dont like them crapping in my garden. I've tried everything. Nothing works. But they dont like water and having soaked the cat at 4am with the hose a month ago i got a few weeks of bliss being left alone, until just last night when it decided to try again. I can't wait up for it all the time. So I want to make a motion detection sprinkler. Cheap as I can. I could buy one ready made like the Contech ScareCrow but it's £50. I figure it can't be that hard, I have several hozelock sprinklers in the garage that I dont use. If I could buy a cheap infrared motion detector and some kind of actuator? Maybe I could rig it up to the hose and sprinkler, but not sure exactly how to do this. Hoping someone here can suggest how to proceed?

Way Of Detecting Humans?

Is there ~~an easy way~~ a best way of detecting humans in the dark, or in a forest? Me and my friends play airsoft, usually in a forest, and it's hard to know where the enemy (other friends) are. I'm a sniper and I want an easy way to detect them. One way would be a thermo-camera, but those are expensive. Is there a better way?

I basically need a person detector. Sort of...

Some friends and I have been playing laser tag a lot recently, We try to team up in Free For All but always end up shooting each other due to darkness. I was wondering, is there any way (Cheap) To build something that each person can have, one person has a device that sends a signal to the other person when about 20 feet away, and on the other persons device, it would vibrate or buzz or something to indicate that the other person is coming. So basically when one person is 20 feet away, all other devices vibrate. One sender, and the rest receivers. And they would have to be pocket sized. Is there any way of doing this? My original plan was to use ElectroMagnetic Fields, one person has the detector, and the other, an EM Pump, But I could not find a pump design powerful enough for 20 foot range. Please Help! Thanks.

IR source detection on a screen?

Hello everyone, I'm trying to find a way to detect a IR source -a LED- from 100m. I only need to detect the source, I do not need to transmit data.  When I turn the camera towards a IR source the software would put an icon on the source BUT without seeing the beam. Namely, the led should look like it is off but the icon on the image should indicate that it is a IR source when it is on. Thank you all!

Once detected/paired, I need device B to light up when pulled out of range from device A. I also need to be able to adjust this range in some manner. I was looking at RFID, but I am worried about interferance from other RFID tags. Not sure if bluetooth could even do what I want in the size that I need (no more than 2x2x.25 inches for either device.) ANyone have any suggestions?

X-CTU not detecting xBEE?

I am trying to communicate between two xBEEs. one xBee is connected via the xBee explorer shield to COM9 in to my laptop and the other is conncected to the arduino uno via the xBee shield ( www.coolcomponents.co.uk/xbee-shield.html?gclid=CPf98dunz7wCFeXKtAodoHEA_g#. ) to COM 17. I am using xBEE Series 2. Now the xCTU detects the xBee connected via the explorer; however it doesnt not detect the one connected via the shield to arduino. It just says Arduino Uni (COM17) in xCTU. and whn I try to rest it it says 'Unable to open com port'. I have moved both the jumpers on the other pins on he USB side, but still no luck. I have tried all the combinations but it doesnt work. Can someone help me with this problem please? :(

different liquid detection sensor

I am building a biodiesel production system. at different points in the process, a tank will have different liquids in it (sometimes more than 1 type, separated out). for instance, there is a point where glycerol sinks to the bottom, while biodiesel floats on top. what i want to do is drain the glycerol from the bottom of the tank (via electronically controlled solenoid valve), then when a sensor detects a change in material (biodiesel), shuts off that valve and opens another (final product tank). for the life of me, i cannot find a sensor that will do this for less than $100. preferably, i'd like to spend less than $30. i can work with a resistive type or voltage type sensor. i just need to be able to make that distinction of material change... any ideas? THANKS!!!

Can the arduino detect frequencies?

I want to make a spectrum analyser and I want to use a micro controller, but I don't know how. I want to know if the arduino (any one) can split up the different frequencies and output them, so I can use it as an input to an LED driver (LM3915). This will allow the LEDs to be at full brightness and respond to the output of the arduino, if the frequency filter is possible. If not, I will use a series of bandpass filters instead. I want to make an 8 band spectrum analyser. I just thought that using an arduino would be cheaper. Thanks. The schematic I will be using: http://stavebnice.postreh.com/picture/PT041_schem_v.gif

Help with motion detection idea

I had an idea for a dramatic halloween set up where the porch light turns off as the person approaches the door and turns back on again when they leave.  First off I don't even know if this is possible. I assume I would need a PIR motion detector and arduino to make this work. I have had some experience with very basic electronics but never anything like arduino so I wouldn't know how to begin programming something like this. I'm guessing I wouldn't be able to use the actual porch light so I plan to set up another light bulb. I would love any advice as I want to make this idea happen but I simply don't know how to approach it. Thank you!

Detect Down, using arduino?

The desired result is a pretty simple one in this case.  I am curious how you can tell where "down" is, using electronics.  I'm sure It could be done by initializing gyroscopes in an initial, level position, but my friend has as small quad copter, that can take off at an angle, and be turned on at an angle, and still level itself perfectly. It doesn't have to have an initial reference to find what down is.  The other option is to use accelerators, but if you are making a device to control a rocket or multirotor it is unlikely to impossible that you will be able to isolate the 9.8 m/s^2 due to gravity from the linear and vertical accelerations,  I assume your everyday gyroscope outputs data in the form of change in degrees, so if it just sitting perfectly still it would just output 0 on all axis, but if it actually gives the current angle I would be surprised, and curious how this is done.  So in conclusion, how could an arduino accurately know where down is?

RIR Sensor with ~3ft detection capability?

Question for you sensor experts... I'm looking to do a project that would involve detecting when an item passes through a doorway near ground level (~6 inches above ground level).  Doing a bit of research it looks like a reflective infrared sensor would do the trick ... only issue I have come across is that there seem to be a slew of these sensors with detection capability of about 15mm max and then another class of these (home security grade) that have detection capability for several 10's of feet. Any ideas on a RIR sensor (links appreciated!) that has capability ~2-3 feet?  Another caveat is I'd like to string up multiple of these sensors in a close proximity, each with the sensor observing a 2-3 ft area right in front of it. Thanks! Nick

Motion Detecting script CHDK help?

Hi guys, I recently installed CHDK on my Canon Ixus 125 HS/Powershot Elph 110 HS (the firmware is 1.01A) so I could have a fast shutter speed.  Upon on testing it out (I used the original script that they give you) I found that it takes an image after the motion has taken place, so I'd like to know how you can make it take an image as soon as it detects motion. Besides this, I don't understand the function of the two settings to change the script they give you. I would be grateful if someone could help me on how to use it. I'd like a way to do it without any programming on a computer or something, a way to do it on the camera itself please. Thx in advance super_me

Sound wave heart beat detection

I love to graph things. Everything from outside temperature to server room temperature to the number of users on the network to my weight.I just read an article in Make magazine about DIY ECGs, and it got me thinking.. i want to graph more things about my body :)Would a microphone embedded in the bed be able to pick up the heart beats and calculate the BPM? This way I could graph development in resting heart rate over time. The microphone would pick up lots of noise from the person moving around etc.. but that doesn't mather. It only needs to get a few clean heart beats in order to calculate the bpm, right? What hardware and software would be suitable to create something like this?Any ideas?Yeah, of course there are other more traditional ways of measuring heart beat.. but I'm to lazy to do that.. I'd rather spend some time making a fully automagickal system.

how to - detect right object in right position?

Hello DIYers, I have a small square object (6cm x 6cm) that I must put in a mold, but how it's square, is possible put it in any position, but only 1 is the right one. The reference is a 5mm label in the top. I want detect if the object in the mold has the right position. Actually I have 5 different objects, the difference between them is the number in the label. My idea is use a Raspberry Pi + Pi Camera + openCV. There will be a collection of images for reference and the camera will be recording jpgs (maybe 1fps) and comparing with the images in the collection. There will be a red led lighting, but if the RPi detect the right object in the right position will light a green led. Noise cat scarer device with with motion detection

I need a cat/pet scarer device.  Main problem: Indoor housecats scratch bedroom doors during the night.  Observations: I''ve had partial success with a comercial product called "Ssscat Cat Spray Control System". It uses motion detection and a bottle of compressed air, shooting a burst of air on detection. The concept is good, but it's not easily available anymore and was a bit expensive. It seems that cats are more scared of the sound it makes than the burst of air.  Ideas: I was hoping to use a "Pyroelectric Infrared IR Motion Sensor Detector Module" and a small audio speaker to make a static sound (white noise) to accomplish a goal similar to commercial solution. A sound loudness slightly above normal talking sound would be enough.  The sound legth should be about one second. Maybe two LEDs lighting at the same time would also help. I would need about 2-5 such devices. They would have to be battery operated with an on/off switch.  Could such devices be easily built from components? If so, I would need on finding the right components and instruction on building the device. I have only basic skills like soldering and tinkering, but I don't know how to design electronic devices more complicated than simple LED projects.

Turn multiple LEDs on when motion is detected?

Hi, I'm working on a code where the situation is "if motion sensor reads movement, turn one led on'. This has to happen three times. When the motion sensor read 3 times a movement, the third and las led will turn on, which activates the servo motor to move. Right now I'm stuck at some points in the code: - How do I write that by the first movement, only the first one will turn on, and keeps it on, until the second movement has bean read, which turns on the second one? - How do I count, that when the third led is on, the servo motor will rotate? - When the servo motor has rotated enough, how do I stop the motor? (I have to write motor.write(90), but where? This is how my code is right now: int sensor = 2; int beweging = LOW; int waarde = 0; int analogInPin = A0; int sensorValue = 0; int aantalLED = 0; #include Servo motor; void setup() {   pinMode(2, OUTPUT);   pinMode(3, OUTPUT);   pinMode(4, OUTPUT);   Serial.begin(9600);   motor.attach(9); } void loop() {   waarde = digitalRead(sensor);   if (beweging = LOW) {     Serial.println("Motion detected!");     beweging = HIGH;     digitalWrite(2, HIGH);     digitalWrite(3, LOW);     digitalWrite(4, LOW);   }   else if (beweging = HIGH) {       Serial.println("Motion stopped!");       beweging = LOW;     }   else if (beweging = LOW) {     Serial.println("Motion detected!");     beweging = HIGH;     digitalWrite(2, HIGH);     digitalWrite(3, HIGH);     digitalWrite(4, LOW);   }   else if (beweging = HIGH) {     Serial.println("Motion stopped!");     beweging = LOW;   }   else if (beweging = LOW) {     Serial.println("Motion detected!");     beweging = HIGH;     digitalWrite(2, HIGH);     digitalWrite(3, HIGH);     digitalWrite(4, HIGH);   }   if (aantalLED > 3) {     motor.write(0);   }   } }

My lecturer suggested i find out the points in the wrist where pressure is exerted when each finger is flexed (left hand). Is there a way to do this simply? Or are there any products, such as wristbands with in-built sensors to sense when a finger is flexed? I only need to know how many fingers of my left hand are used at a particular moment while playing.
