Ostrich eggs!

While me and my family are having a holiday in Devon, UK, we came across a local store that sell real Ostrich eggs! This is my first time in my life seeing a ostrich egg, my dad brought one and ostrich eggs are said to taste like normal chicken eggs and a single ostrich egg has a average serving of 18 - 24 chicken eggs... I wonder if anybody has ostrich eggs in their area and ever eaten one...

Arghh! Eggs!

Today was a great day in school! I came home craving hard boiled eggs, so I take 4 eggs from a container that I thought was fairly old (5 days or so). Turns out they were fresh. Now my eggs are impossible to completely peel, albeit being good inside. Is there a good way to remove all of the shell? Is there anything I can do with these eggs (that is, a recipe)?I really to see 3 good eggs go to waste. Does anyone know what to do?Thanks,Bran.

Peel an Egg

After watching the "Sprint Cut" on how to peel an egg at http://www.waitless.org/ I was intrigued. I thought this might be useful for Tim and me considering how many hardboiled eggs we eat. So we gave it shot. Results are below (unfortunately, I didn't realize the digital camera doesn't record sound). We're not certain whether it belongs in Handy Tricks or How Not To... Disclosure: Sprint is an advertiser on Instructables, and waitless.org is part of their advertising.

Egg Bot is here!

Apparently... Actually, this is pretty cool - it's a plotter that can draw on spherical or egg-shaped objects, from the size of a ping-pong ball to the size of a grapefruit. More details here.

car, transportation, egg

Hi, i have to build a toy car or something like it, powered by rubber bands so its no problem, the thing is that it has to travel 31ft on a straight line, and then stop at 31ft and drop an egg. the egg must survive the fall from the car... Any ideas??? I'd consider using some type of braking mechanism. A string wrapped from a front axle to a rear axle would make a great brake. It would work kind of like a cassette tape; winding from one side to the other, and stopping when it's completely transferred form one to the other.

Egg project ideas?

Hey guys my sister has asked me for some help with a project. She has to have a egg travel 3 meters using wind power. The vehicle has to be small and have 4 wheels. and made of recyclable material. When i heard of this project i immediately thought of instructables. I was thinking of a Styrofoam base with the 4 wheels, a sail with a recycled pc fan, maybe go over the top and make the fan run off a small solar panel? i think i can get one from radioshack.

I am not dead

I am sure the tiny couch proved that much, but it has not testified of my other projects, which do exsist. I just either forgot to take good pictures or lost parts of the pattern or a combination of both. I have recently made this really awesome dice bag, which I will make an attempt to put up here, no promises though. The other big project I have made was my very first doll, one based off the anime character Madoka Kaname. And she looks awesome. I would show you pictures of them both, but they are not currently in my possession. Both, along with several other projects, have been entered in my county fair, and most gained me some more ribbons. As for future projects, I have two commissions from my siblings that I am going to make, one being a hydra, the other being this Hulk bird... thingie. I am going to try harder to get these on here for you, and hopefully you will be able to see them too. One last subject, I am currently in the process of setting up an online shop to sell the things I make. If anyone has any suggestions that may help me along the way, I would love to hear them.

Everlasting Easter eggs tips?

We don't eat much eggs in this house hold let alone boiled eggs so it would be a waste to just make, colour and then eventually throw out those Easter eggs after words. But I still want to have some coloured Easter eggs to make a cheery atmosphere. Colouring raw eggs is not practical either.  So I was thinking taking eggs that I would use to make cakes est and instead of just cracking I would just make a small hole on one end to let the yoke out in the process preserving the egg shells. Now with those egg shells, can I pour in Plaster of Paris to replace the yokes that were in them? So I can get a sort of real egg feeling? Then colouring them when dry? What do you think?

The Man Who Unboiled The Egg...

Hervé This, a French chemist, loves experimenting with food and the science of cooking. His mission in life is to reveal the science that lies behind the mystery of cooking. This has world-wide acclaim and his experiments just rock. He's unboiled an egg using sodium borohydride, and you can even try this at home using Vitamin C.I particularly like this segment of the article:"There is a quail's egg that has been standing in vinegar for three years. The acid has attacked its shell and made it translucent. By osmosis, it has swelled up to about four times its original size. Hervé says that it has the same consistency as a hard-boiled egg and could be eaten in a salad."Intrigued? Read on...

The Great Egg Race Returns!

Brits of a certain age will remember The Great Egg Race - teams of ingenious chaps using the contents of a typical shed or kitchen to solve a problem of which they have no prior notice, kind of a cardigan-wearing precursor to Scrapheap Challenge (aka Junkyard Wars). At the same time, an international egg-mobile contest was going on; teams and individuals competing to make vehicles to carry a 70g egg as far as possible, powered only by a single, small elastic band.  For American readers, it's a similar idea to a mouse-trap car. Well, it's back! Firstly, there's a digitised archive of shows from the Early eighties (the years when I was in secondary education!) available online here (sorry, I don't know if they are available to US viewers, but maybe you can find it YouTube?). In addition, Auntie Beeb is bringing it back, or at least, it's spirit, in the form of a new Wallace and Gromit show, with animated inventions, instructions for making your own gadgets (some familiar to us here, like a vibrobot, others more unusual, like a Magnus-effect car (I'm really curious about that one!). Keep an eye on this show, folks, and on the hands-on page - it could be a great source of inspiration for new Makers, and your own Instructables.

restoring ovalia egg chair

I am trying to restore an original thor larsen ovalia egg chair for my game room.  i have stripped out all of the old worn out fabric from the interior down to the bare rough fiberglass.  i'm trying to adhere fabric to this rough fiberglass using spray adhesives with little success so far.  i have tried using 3m super 77 adhesive and also misty foam and fabric adhesive.  my test piece of fabric pulled off easily after letting the adhesive set up for over 24 hours.  i'm wondering if anyone has some ideas on this process of adhering fabric to fiberglass that i may be missing.  i've looked for info on restoring a piece like this one and have come up short so far.  so any info or ideas of things to try would be welcome. thanks!

How to Make and Eat a Nine-Egg Breakfast

The secret is quail eggs. I found the quail eggs' membranes tougher than expected, and I had to pinch them to actually crack open the eggs. Quail eggs taste more "like eggs" than standard chicken eggs -- like the difference between a factory-farmed egg and an egg from my neighbor's chickens that eat grubs all day. You can hard boil them too. I started the eggs in cold water, heated it until boiling, let it boil for 1 minute, and then turned the heat off let the eggs sit in the hot water for 7 minutes. Finally, I quickly cooled them under cold water, and the shells were easy to peel.

My quail eggs have hatched but 50% of the baby quails cannot walk.  Their legs stick out from the side of their bodies.  They seem healthy but craw around the brood box. The good ones can walk on the straw covered brood box.  They just cannot stand Any ideas as to what has happened?

Colored Rice Crafts

Add a splash of colorful to any room. These colorful rice creations were originally made as Easter egg decorations.  I don't see why this technique couldn't be used to make other fun decorations as well!!  A colorful rice alphabet would look nice on a child's wall. Find more cool sewing and craft tutorials on dana-made-it.
