Unsymmetrical Picture Frame

So I was given these really cool, very colorful tree bark paintings that I cannot wait to get up on the walls!  They have lots of funky neon colors and designs with edges that aren't even which gives them a lot of character!  The only thing though I don't want to put holes in them and stick them on the wall like that.  I bought a regular picture frame just to see how it would look.  Doesn't really work.  There's space between the edge of the picture and the picture frame and just takes away the natural feel to it.  I've been wanting to make picture frames out of sticks or something but just can't figure out how to make them "trap" the picture.  Not really looking to have glass in front of it either.  Any wear on them would just make them look more natural.  Maybe I should seal them so they don't fade if I don't want glass in front of it.... Hmm.... Anywho, if anyone has any suggestions, they are all greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

Bent Bike Frame

Yeah, so, my brother bought a mid-80s Schwinn World Sport. It's a nice bike. I spent about 10 hours overhauling every piece of that bike. Unfortunately, when I got it all put back together and test rode it, the bike had a nasty pull to the right. Bent Frame. He didn't check that when he bought it (didn't know anything about it, I daresay).  Anybody know anything about repairing a bent frame? The frame's tubes don't seem to be damaged or crimped or dented.  I'm thinking of using a car jack and some straps to straighten it out. Any thoughts?

electronic window frame

If anybody could help me out that would be great...  I saw plans for this a few years back but lost them. The idea is to use 4 laptop screens in a mock 4-pane window frame. There was a hard drive and power supply behind the frame that would put a picture up so you are looking at a different view everday like the Eiffel Tower, or Golden Gate Bridge, etc. Hang in an empty space on the wall and its like a fake window with a killer view!!! Sound like a potential favorite?

backlit picture frame

Hello all, so, i got these really cool batiks (paintings on silk), and i would like to make frames for them with light inside, cuz they look really cool when backlit. AND to avoid any cords hanging out of my beautiful pictures i'd like to make them battery operated with an on/off switch. so, has anybody done it before? or got any ideas how to approach this, and what materials to buy. needless to say, cheaper is better :) the pictures are 11x11 inches and they don't have to be bright, just slightly glowing, so i was thinking to use some LED's, or El-wire, and vellum or matt plexyglass to diffuse the light. any help apprecialted. thanks, -m.

building a picture frame?

Have an older Toshiba 2595 lap top (don't even remember how I acquired it, blame that one on the “Old Timers Disease” that I have). I am going to build a Digital Picture Frame from it. When I acquired it there was no battery or power supply with it. While doing some repair work on a similar computer for a friend, I did power it up with his battery and installed Windows 98 SE on the hard drive, so I know the unit works. The HD is only a 6 Gig, but is big enough to hold a couple of hundred pictures and the software program “Slideshow” to rotate them. What I need to know is, will this work on the power supply only. Do I need to do anything with the battery connections? There are 10 pins where the battery went into the computer and I don’t have any idea of which ones did what. Does anyone know what rating of power supply is required for this unit. Could I use a generic power supply instead of having to purchase the exact one for this unit? Of course you know there will be another upcoming “instructable” of how to build a Digital Picture Frame. I will try and make mine a bit more entertaining and perhaps include some new idea about how to do this type of thing.   Thanks Larystoy

Solar Cell Frame?

I am trying to make a somewhat portable solar panel with (3) 3 1/4" x 6" solar cells mounted on a durable fabric, but what I'm wondering is how to mount them. I am thinking of using glass super glue to mount the cells on or sandwitched between two peices of glass and having that sit in a plastic frame to be riveted on the fabric. what I want and haven't been able to find is a low profile license plate type plastic frame that would fit the glass perfectly. I only want to spend around $1 per frame, so custom isn't going to cut it. Does anyone have an idea of a plastic or even aluminum frame that would fit these specifications? Thanks!

What polymer is used for this frame? Answered

I've seen a photo of these frames on a social network and i was wondering... Which polymer is used for these frames? Do you see this trasparent thing that hold the stickboy or the squares of the card or the inside of the egg? like something that is popping out of the frame... i was thinking... i can put this frame orizontall... then i can put a surface of this polymer on it and i put inside of it an object... this will be taked down by the gravity and at a certain point it will stop by the flexibility limit of the polymer... and when the polymer is dry i can move it without particular problems... i think this may be a good way to recreate this frames... but i don't know which polymer they used for these ones.

north woods bed-frame

Attached images are from an ad for Eddie Bauer "North Woods Collection" bedding. I'm interested in the construction of the ?bed? or ?bed-frame? in the images. Is this a solid piece of wood? (if it is it must weigh a ton) or is it something created just for advertising purposes -- i.e., pretty, but not functional? Any suggestions on how something like this might be built? I've looked through all instructables for "beds" and "bed-frames" but can't find anything like this. This would be an outrageously overpriced piece of furniture if purchased at retail. I'm sure someone in the community could suggest a couple of methods for building it. Also, the pictured lamp and bed-table. thanks much from mpls., mn.

Bicycle accident is the frame okay? Answered

I struck basically struck a curb (an unmarked road island really) going 17 mph roughly and blew out my front rim. I broke a collar bone because of the accident. Anyways I was wondering if the frame is okay I looked at it and there was no visible cracks anywhere. Its a cheap Schwinn frame and it got me wondering if it would be safe to put a new rim on and go. BTW this is a gas powered motorized bicycle not the cheap ones as shown BEFORE the crash.

Creative framing / mounting photos

So I have some photos that I would like to print out and mount similar to the way they are in the attached image. Any ideas or advice on how best to do so? I'd like them to be on solid blocks of wood, and kind of like, sealed in and to the wood. Very sturdily mounted, almost like wheat-pasted. The only thing I've thought of so far was using casting resin, but I'm afraid it would eat thru the ink and paper... Also, any other ideas for mounting and hanging photos that are beyond actual 'frames'?

Metal T-Frame Basics

Hi there, I'm new here and pretty much to DIY in general (except for general repairs) - I'm planning to build a glass dry-wipe board with a simple aluminium T-Frame and need a bit of basic advice. Not knowing the lingo of the trade, its been very hard to find suppliers/information and my research seems to have gone as far as it will ever get, so I figured it was time to ask for some help. I've managed to find a supplier who stocks 25mm square al tubing and was wondering about the best way to construct the frame. My design for the frame is extremely simple - it's just a t-frame with a single crossbar which will run below the pane of glass. I have access to a reasonably well equiped workshop, but unfortunately no welding gear (I hear that al is difficult to weld anyway) which isn't too much of a problem as I would like to be able to deconstruct the frame. I would appreciate any tips which may be useful to a newbie, but mainly I need to know how to fix the al bars at right angles in a non-permanent manner. The desk which I'm sitting at right now has some sort of threaded inserts at the end of each crossbar, allowing it to be bolted a right angles to the frame. I tried googling these inserts, but couldn't find anything which seemed relevant. If anyone could point me in the direction of these inserts or provide an alternative solution, it would be very much appreciated. Thank you

Magic Freewheel & Bike Frame

The machine shop I work for had this "great" idea about 10 years ago. Wouldn't it be nice if you could pedal backwards on your bicycle and still go forward? It's like 2 things in one! Not as glamorous as it sounds. So I'm getting rid of some old parts to various "Super Gear" projects including the Magic Freewheel, an Aluminum bike frame, and if you really wanted them I an go dig out some of the old gears in storage too. Make an offer if you want something. We can ship UPS.

Hi all! HPV Frame SNEAK PEAK!

Oooo baby! Tacked togehter. You're butt.... 7 inches off the ground. Ground clearance - ~3" It's missing a few components though - like a chain and a tie rod (for Ackerman steering). But that's a Nexus8 Hub in a 650 rear wheel (and we're working on securing a 700C if we can make a drop out adapter to fit the shimano road derailleurs). And yes, that's a Carbon Fiber Seat which just so happens to mold to my back perfectly - and accommodate my giraffe like neck (I think I'm the tallest sitting down because of that) :P

Help! Need to make an **easy** picture frame...

Hey y'all! So I need a bit of help here. I just finished this puzzle and I want to frame it (something I've never done before). I've looked around here and there aren't any frames that would fit a 20.5 inch X 28.5 inch puzzle. I refuse to pay the outrageous costs of custom framing, so unless something magically pops up, I will be building a frame for it. Building frames, building anything for that matter, is not my fortay and I would appreciate any and all tips y'all can provide. Thanks!!

Any ideas on how to make this giant photo frame?

Hi! I'm slightly obsessed with this giant photo frame (see attached). I'm pretty sure it's just a concept / one-off, and it's not something I'd be able to afford anyways, so I'm considering how to DIY it. I've got some good ideas for the outer frame rim, but I can't come up with a way to make the huge back plate and matt that would look nice and not be too heavy. For the backplate I could probably use posterboard or 3mm MDF, but I'm not sure of how to join two or more sheets together that won't significantly add to the weight. At this size there will also be some serious stability issues - it'll need some sort of cross bracing. For the matt, I think I could maybe just use nice cardboard and cut the picture holes by hand, carefully lining up adjacent sheets. Proper matt material I think would be way too expensive for something that size. Any ideas? Thanks Alex

Making a digital picture frame without a working motherboard :-(

So...my iBook G4 died a couple of months ago. At first, We Fix Macs thought it was a (known) logic board problem, but it turns out the motherboard is dead. I've recovered my hard drive, and have the carcass at home. Everything works fine except that it won't boot, or won't stay running once booted. Is there a reasonably inexpensive way to hook up an image player (like an MP3 or other thumb-drive type of thing) directly to an LCD display? Most of the digital photo-frame projects involve restructuring the components of a functioning laptop.I'm not about to try to get this done in time for Christmas, but for my wife's birthday (March) it'd be kind of cool.

Dimensioned drawing for three-hole mount on A-frame trailer hitch?

I am trying to find the technical specs for the mounting hole that a powered tongue jack goes through on a A-frame trailer hitch. There's a big hole in the center for the tongue jack post, and three bolt-hole in a triangle around it. But what are the hole diameters and positions? P.S. I've gone through an hour or so of Google searching, and called three different "manufacturers." There are lots of trailer plans on the Web, but they're for-sale.
