Our favorite holiday of the year is coming up! That's right, Halloween is just around the corner and we can hardly wait. Of course, we'll also be having a Halloween Contest to celebrate. We'll be announcing the details and prizes soon, but don't feel the need to hold back on posting any great Halloween-themed Instructable. Any Instructable that has been posted since the end of the last Halloween contest can be entered. That's Nov. 10, 2008 or later.

Alright so I'm really confused because I entered my instructable in the photos, decorations, and props section of the Halloween Competition; unfortunately my instructable is only showing up in the photos section. It was my understanding that you could enter your instuctable in multiple sections. Am I wrong? Please help.

I just discovered this site and I'm very excited to see what submissions are made as I love to tinkle with DIY projects. I noticed that there are contests where we can enter our submissions. I have a DIY project for a Halloween graveyard setup that I constructed a few years back that I would like to submit for your readers, but also would like to have it included in the Halloween contest for 2008. Should I wait until you "open" the 2008 contest, or can I submit the item and then have it entered in the contest when it starts? I tried to upload one of my AVI files that shows a small portion of my display.

So for Halloween I want to make a pop out/ fly out creature. I want it to sit tucked away in the corner then shoot out two to five feet towards unsuspecting guests, to give the illusion of something flying out at you. I was thinking of doing the scissor (http://www.frightprops.com/pneumatics/kits/animatronic-kits/horizontal-scissor-mech.html?SID=d3f43bbaffe0a34f01e47e75eade4e39) but need to figure out how I'm going to be able to make it repeat over and over without having to reset it constantly. If you have any ideas please email me.

Ever since seeing the Transformers movie I just couldn't stop thinking about transformers. So I decided a Transformer costume was it this year. It started out as just a box and later became more elaborate and more of a car. IT IS FINALLY DONE. Took three months but it's done. Pictures of the final product is here. Today I took it to school for a contest. I probably transformed at least twenty times. At one point the tape wasn't working on the spoiler because the "haters" would tear it off. So we used a bolt instead. In the contest people were chanting my name and I won ... a cheapy blue necklace. But now whenever I was going around the block all I would hear is "Are you the Transformer kid? Transform for us". Of course I would. So if anyone has questions or wants me to post instructions let me know. The instructions will be hard because of the variety of height and weight.

Just in case anyone was wondering, I knew you didn't doubt it, we have photographic evidence of Eric signing the Halloween postcards! It took an army of halloween elves to keep up with the envelope stuffing as Eric signed a postcard roughly every 8 seconds, yes, I timed him. No I do not know how he accomplished that act of super human speed.

I've just released a site update that gets us ready to reveal a whole Halloween area very soon. Halloween is pretty much THE Instructables holiday and this year we're doing something special, in advance. Watch for that shortly! There are also a number of bugfixes: fixed subscribing fixed a problem with inconsistent stats figures adjusted some of the email templates several admin-only fixes (they were really bugging me for these) Probably some other stuff that didn't make it on to my list, that you all will notice shortly and remind me of :)

I don't know if this is the right forum section to post it on, and if it ain't, then please feel free to move it to the right forum section! But I do have a quick question! I've already seen on the Halloween Contests that a single user can submit multiple entrys (more than 1 entry per user), but now the thing is if an entry is of a costume one wore for Halloween a few years back, can they still enter it into the Halloween Easy or Epic Costume Contest for the year 2012?

Some people send Christmas greeting cards. Since Halloween is our favorite holiday, we decided to send Halloween greeting cards. About 1100 of them. Check out the pictures of signing, stuffing, applying postage, and mailing them. We sent them to top authors by number of Instructables, by pageviews, top commentors, people who have previously won contests, and others. Since we did all this by hand (and had a couple of snafus along the way!), if you didn't get one, that doesn't mean you're not awesome; it means we screwed up and forgot to ask for your address. But, we'd still like to send you one! So, if you'd like a Halloween card, and you haven't already entered your address, leave a comment here by Friday October 23 and I'll send you the link to submit your information. If you have entered your address but haven't received your card, it's probably still on its way. Happy Halloween! This is the forum topic for Halloween 2009. If you'd like a card for 2010, please see here: 2010 Halloween Postcards.

I have an idea for a cool Halloween costume. I know it is a little bit earlllyyyy.... But I don't care. :P I am wanting a costume based on the principle of the mermaid captured costume by using the backpack as a support. I want a tall costume, like a 7ft or so tall. I was thinking have a backpack and sew in a PVC/ Dowell rod standing up going to the head.. But I'm not quite sure of the arms or how I would see out of it. Any help is appreciated or links or just anything and everything. I'm also wanting it to be like a ghost type monster almost shady creature costume. Thanks!

Hey guys, so I'm planning a halloween party this year, and came across this prop on one of the popular halloween store's websites : http://www.spirithalloween.com/product/cemetery-entrance-clmn-sign/ Looking at it, I thought $150? The two columns would be more than easy enough to make like that for very cheap. I just dont know how I'd go about building the 'Cemetary' sign like that (or something similar). Anyone have any experience/ideas on how to go about doing that?

I decided to be Marilyn Monroe for Halloween and I have a long pink dress that I am going to alter to emulate Monroe's pink dress from the film Gentleman Prefer Blondes. Does anybody have any ideas how I could do this? The three main things that I need to do are get rid of the rhinestones in the middle, make a bow for the back, and get rid of the straps. I know how to alter the middle but have no idea what to do about the bow or the straps. Any ideas for how to make the bow would be very appreciated. I know that I could just cut the straps off but there is no support on the top whatsoever and the top is a little loose on me. The material is silk so if I just cut off the straps I'm pretty sure the dress would just fall off. Any ideas are very appreciated!

Hello everyone! Every year for the halloween contests we the staff have to draw some lines between props, costumes, and decor items. This year we've decided to draw the lines similar to where actual theater companies draw their lines. Believe it or not there is a prop union, costume union, and set union. It helps to give us some firm definitions of what item goes into what contest! This year we are defining costume as the following: "Something that is worn on the body to add to or create a character." This includes any and all clothing, hair clips, jewelry, hat, and shoes! Examples below! If you have any questions feel free to post them here and I'll answer them to the best of my ability! Want to enter the Costume contest? Check it out here!

Hey Instructables Community! I am in charge of moderating the contest entries for the Halloween Contests; this is to just clarify some things in case you are wondering why you were rejected from a contest. -------------------------- You cannot enter the same Instructable into both the Epic and Easy Costume Contests. If you are not sure which one to enter, go ahead and enter both and I'll make the call. You cannot enter the same Instructable into both the Decorations and Props Contest. Props relate to costumes while decorations are simply decorations. Any Halloween Photo Instructable qualifies for the Halloween Photo Contest. Food can also qualify as a Decoration. If you have a Costume with an awesome Prop, it would be best to post them in different Instructables so you can enter each in its corresponding contest. And don't forget, you can enter up to 3 contests, so read through the contests descriptions when you go to publish and enter any and all it qualifies for! You can enter each contest as many times as you want! The Contests: Epic - Costumes that take more than a day to make if you were to work on it that whole time, we're looking for something that is EPIC! Take a look at the current entries for an idea of what we're talking about. (If you are rejected from Epic it doesn't mean you don't have an awesome costume, it just means we're looking for something more EPIC.) Easy - Costumes that take about a day or less to make. Props - Something that is part of a costume (meaning, worn or held), including, but not limited to: facepaint/makeup, hairstyles/wigs, swords/sheilds, and masks. Decoration - Something that you would not carry around including lawn and home decor. Photo - Any Halloween Photo Instructable Food - Anything that is food that relates to Halloween Any Questions? Please leave a comment here or PM me, I'm happy to help out :)
