Is it possible to fit a charging coil to a pull start honda engine to charge a 12v battery?

Is it possible to fit only a charging coil to a pull start honda engine to charge a 12v battery without having to fit the whole electric start kit. I am wondering if this is the only thing needed to make it charge a 12v battery or are there other things in the kit that must be installed to charge a battery.

Can someone please do an 'ible on a Honda Ruckus Gy6 swap?

I am crazy N00B to doing moto mods, but I love the honda ruckus and would love to be able to do the Gy6 swap to a 150cc engine with the extended back end...maybe even a fat boy design.  if someone could give a breakdown on how to do that and all the possible mods, explaining their function?  That would be awesome and rock my world.  Thanks!

What engine does a stock 1999 Acura Integra LS have? Answered

Not to familiar with the Acura/Honda scene, my friend picked up a 1999 Acura Integra LS, stock engine. I'm curious to know which engine code it has. The ls came with a non-vtec 1.8 liter, does that still make it a B18? Thanks in advance  -Dan

Does a 2-stroke Honda CB 100 NE engine need a battery to run? Answered

I have a Honda 2-stroke CB100NE (1018034) engine which I am trying to get working. This is the first time Ive worked with an engine so my knowledge is quite fragmented. So far the engine will turn over using the kickstart but I've been unable to get a spark. Documentation for this specific engine seems to be quite limited but I found a service manual claiming that the generator goes into the battery which then drives the spark plug via the coil, points etc. However, a friend told me that the spark plug can be run directly off the generator/magneto, and since the engine isn't in a motorbike which would require lights and a horn the battery isn't necessary. I'm also not sure how the rectifier plays into this if I'm not having a battery - is the rectifier only there to facilitate charging of the battery? So my question is, does my engine need a battery to power the spark plugs and if so, do I need to use the rectifier? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do I need a fuel outlet on the underside of the carburetor on my Honda engine ?

The bottom of the carburetor on my motorbike-now-go kart engine has a fuel outlet with a needle pin for adjustment. can this be blocked up?....is it needed to make the engine work? or does it need as fuel pipe to connect to somewhere?obviously the fuel inlet comes into the carb from the top but this hole comes out the opposite side on the bottom.

GY6 Questions?

I bought a 150cc go kart a while back, and want to take it sand duning. Problem is, it doesnt have enough power on sand. The model is the KM-2150R.  I found out that the engine is a clone of the 150cc Honda GY6. I recently got offered to buy a 250cc honda scooter with a genuine Honda GY6 that is 250cc. Could I put the engine from the scooter in my kart? They use the same transmission, and look very similar, if not the same from the outside.

How Can I Remove This Stripped Screw?

On my Honda SL 125 engine on the lower part in the corner, there is this one screw that is preventing me from pulling the whole thing apart. It's driving me crazy. The problem is that it is stripped and nothing I try works to get it out. I also sort of flattened out the lower half of the screw, so that I could try and grab the upper half with some pliers, but that only messed it up further. I've attached a couple of images of the screw if that helps.I read today that gluing a screw driver to the screw with super glue might work, but I wouldn't have thought it would. Any suggestions?

Lawn mower blade hub.

I'm trying to figure out how to get the blade hub off of the bottom end of the crankshaft on my TroyBilt - Honda powered mower. There is no set screw that I can find, and it doesn't appear to be a thread off. There is a key, but I can find nothing that suggests how to get this thing off. I need to take it off so I can change the bottom crankshaft oil seal. This is a Honda GCV160 engine. Thanks for any input.

So far a paddlewheel boat has the lead. Also have several other lawnmower engines and weedeater motors. The mower beds and bodys really catch the rust here and seem to melt in front of your eyes. hope for some ideas on screaming death machines.

Brand new 5.5hp engine/packer won't run?

Hey peeps, me again. My father recently put up a little shed (one with the frame and tarping) and he put a dirt floor in, and also we just put new gravel in the driveway after digging it all out. Well he's borrowing a packer from the construction company he works for, for packing the dirt down and possibly the driveway. It's got a brand new 5.5 honda utility engine on it (although it had a big lump of clay fall on the gas tank, it's nearly inverted :p ). We had it running last night but it was fluttering, we only had to move it so we never used it. Today, a whole different story, it sputterd for about 5 seconds and stopped. We (well me, he's just sitting here drinking) can't get it to work. I've cleaned the sparkplug. Pulled the gas tank off and completely emptied it out thinking maybe someone at work put diesel in it by accident or something. Put it all back together, and I got it to run for a couple second a few times. Also, I pulled the oil dipstick out, and it's one of those engines where it's not a verticl dipstick, it's basically diagonal, on a slant. And the tag that's still attached to the engine showed a diagram where it shows to check the oil, and showed where the oil level should be. Well Not the case, oil literally GUSHED out of the opening as soon as I opened it. (Long long post I know).. So I emptied the oil out so it wasn't "flowing" out of the hole (after this is when I got it to run a couple times). I'm so "fricken" confused. I know what I'm doing, just finished a advanced engine course. But what the fuck?! My last guess is perhaps change the oil (gas in it?!?). It's now 6:10pm and well basically no day left. I've spent all day tinkering with it. If anyone actually made it to the end of the post, I really need some help. Anyone have some ideas? Thanks in advanced

Lawn mower

I have a Craftsman Lawn Mower Model 917.377842 with a Honda engine. To make along story short, I made my usual tune up for the season. I had the blade sharpen, changed oil, changed spark plug & put fresh fuel in.  It usually starts with 2 pulls but didn't and found oil in the air filter compartment.  I eventually tipped the wrong way while putting back on the blade. I drained the oil & gas & put fresh in. The oil stopped squirting into the oil compartment but still wouldn't start. I tried cleaning the carb but decided to replace it. It still won't start & now the engine floods with gas. What's going on?  None of this has ever happened. I sure would appreciate any help. I've had this mower for at least 11 yrs & aside from a few minor repairs, it has been great.

Students Build Car that Gets 2752.3 MPG

Students at Cal Poly have made a car that gets 2752.3 mpg. It has three wheels and moves one person along at just 30 mph, but it can drive most of the way across the U.S. on one gallon of gas. "The 96 pound car has three wheels, a drag coefficient of 0.12, a top speed of 30 MPH, and a modified 3 horsepower Honda 50cc four-stroke engine. It originally clocked in at 861 MPG and has been continuously tweaked to achieve the mileage we see today." Link

Jet Boat powered by High pressure Water Pump???

Hello Instructablers, I would love some input from some of the great minds in this community for slightly mad project I have been thinking about. In the spirit of "What Could Possibly Go Wrong" I am planning to try powering a small boat with an engine drive water pump. We recently got some new pumps in at work that will do up to 80m head (113 psi), or flows to about 750 litres per minute (I think that's about 164 gallons). Powered by 13HP Honda engine. It's a very impressive pump, but will it be able to power a boat? Here's my plan so far: Either obtain or build a small boat. Perhaps with a flat bottom. I will mount the pump as low and central as I can. Full of water the pump will weigh around 50-60kg. The suction hose would be connected to a tank flange that penetrates the hull at the deepest point. The discharge will penetrate the transom. Various nozzle sizes will be tried to find out the best compromise between flow and velocity. What do you think? Considering most of the jetboats I have seen have massive V8 engines in them, could my idea possibly work? Will it need to be an impossibly small boat? Will I need more than one pump? How many? What's more important; flow, pressure, velocity? Should I stick to oars? I have other pumps to choose from with greater flows if that makes a difference. Go here to see them:  http://www.pumpmaster.com.au/engine-drive-pumps.htm Here's silly video of the boys at Pumpmaster in Queensland trying out the new machine... http://youtu.be/zjYvENfr1cw

Hybrid cars - uphill strategies

I own a hybrid car (Honda Insight 2nd generation - CVT) and I'm happy with the fuel economy (4.3 L/100 Km  --  54,7 MPG),  but I think there is still room for improvement. My house is on top of a hill and when I get home I have to climb steep slopes. The batteries go low and the forced regeneration kicks in. (The car uses the gas engine to recharge the batteries.) When I get home the batteries are almost fully charged. The next trip is, of course, downhill and the high state of charge prevents me from getting the maximum advantage of regenerative braking. (Put in other words: I'm burning gasoline uphill to recharge the batteries that I could charge for free driving downhill...) How could I avoid/reduce forced regeneration? What strategies do you use driving uphill? Thanks

Dirtmobile?

So I got this awesome idea to make a trike with a snowmobile donor. Use the snowmobiles motor and track for the rear "wheel", and a gokart style front end, with 2 wheels, spindles, maybe suspension, etc.  Nothing too big, maybe 400cc or less. 2 stroke of course =D. I am proficient in fabricating, welding, and have a full auto shop worth of tools, so the actual construction shouldn't be a problem. However, I need to know some things about the snowmobile drive train.  Would the track itself work on dirt, light mud, light puddles (2-4 inches deep), and maybe some sand? If not, are there any tracks available for such terrain? Do most snow mobiles have the engine mounted infront of seat, below, or behind? This thing looks wicked cool in my mind.  OH, heres a good way to put it. Like a snowbike (Dirt bike with tracks in back), with two front wheels. Or a honda ATC with tracks flipped rear/front.

Green and sexy car show

The Morgan LIFE car will get it's first UK airing at the Eden Project next weekend. The Morgan LIFE car, probably the sexiest green car in existence is a fuel cell-powered electricsports car built by Morgan Motor Company and startup efficient transport company RiverSimple. Research and development is by QinetiQ, Linde, Cranfield University and backed by BERR. This is its first UK outing.Four stacks of fuel cells convert the hydrogen fuel into electricity to run a super efficient motor generator attached to each wheel. Energy recovered in braking is stored in ultra capacitors rather than batteries, and end to end the performance is estimated to be equivalent to a 150mpg petrol engine. With a top speed of 85mph, 0-60 in less than 7 seconds and a 250 mile range, the mix of technology has been packaged by Morgan to add yet another unique twist to the project. Using only the best and lightest materials, aluminium, wood and leather, the Morgan DNA is clearly visible, adding a new dimension into an environmentally sensitive concept. And Lotus will be showcasing their most powerful Exige yet:The Lotus Exige 270E Tri-fuel is the most powerful version of the Lotus Exige ever, and it runs on any mixture of gasoline, bioethanol and methanol. It is the latest research vehicle from Lotus Engineering, the consultancy division of Group Lotus plc.Emerging technologies will allow alcohol fuels such as methanol, already a proven internal combustion fuel, to be made synthetically from CO2 extracted from the atmosphere. A fuel derived renewably from atmospheric CO2 would be a key piece of the jigsaw allowing society to transfer to sustainable, renewable, carbon-neutral internal combustion.Lotus Engineering is researching the use of sustainable synthetic alcohols as future fuels for introduction within 15 - 20 years. The Exige 270E Tri-fuel is part of Lotus' research into the complex combustion and calibration processes for powering vehicles on mixtures of alcohol fuels and gasoline, which will be important for a successful transition from today's fuels. Its flex-fuel technology gives a practical route to the introduction of sustainable synthetic fuels. Using an alcohol sensor in the fuel system and the advanced Lotus engine management system, the Exige 270E Tri-fuel runs on any mixture of gasoline, bioethanol and methanol. This is all happening at the Eden Project in Cornwall, one of the UK's flagship environmental projects, with some of the world's largest biodomes built into an old claypit. All the major manufacturers will be flaunting their newest, greenest models including Ford, Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, Volkswagen, SEAT, Honda, Axon, Lotus, Saab and Morgan. Vectrix's electric motorcycle will also be on show, and the hydrogen-powered Morgan LIFE car will make its first public appearance (in the UK).There will also be exhibitors demonstrating how to maintain and even insure your car in a greener way. One stand will feature a driving simulator that they claim can teach you to drive in such a way that your carbon emissions are cut by 15%, there will be a pedal-car race track for the kids, and a Grow Your Own car trail around the rainforest. We visited last Summer, and can recommend it to anybody. If your not aiming for a specific event, go on a Tuesday (it's quieter) and check opening times - opening times on some days are several hours longer than others.Eden Project

Escape from Berkeley (by any non-petroleum means necessary)

Now that Convert your Honda Accord to run on trash has won the Craftsman Workshop of the Future Contest, it's prepped to race to Mexico for a chance of winning $10,000.00!Our friends at The Shipyard and ALL Power Labs are running Escape from Berkeley (by any non-petroleum means necessary), the premier alternative-fuels road rally, for the second year in a row. Last year they escaped from Berkeley and fled to Vegas; this year they're running for the boarder. The directions are laid out for you, all you need to do is get to work. Will you be there? If so, be sure to document your alternative fuel project on Instructables!A road race to Mexico, no fuel allowed.June 12-16, 2009Berkeley, CA - "Escape from Berkeley (by any non petroleum means necessary)" is a road rally of alternatively powered vehicles from Berkeley, California to the US-Mexican Border. Part engineering problem, part artistic opportunity, the rally challenges contestants to start their "engines" on something other than petroleum based fuel, and by any means necessary, cause their "vehicles" show up at the border five days later - using only fuels/power/motive force scavenged for free along the route.Last years inaugural race took us from the DIY oasis of ALL Power Labs in Berkeley, CA, to the consumptive excess of Las Vegas, Nevada. Returning to compete for the second running of the race will be 1st Place Rally Winner Jack McCornack from Cave Junction, OR and Runner Up Wayne Keith from Springfield, AL. Registration for new racers is now open. Interested racers should write jim@allpowerlabs.org.All types of vehicles are welcome. All schemes for non-petroleum based transport are encouraged. In short, everything is permitted - just as long as your "fuel" is from a non-petroleum based source, your acquisition of it does not require money, and you start the race with no more than 10kwh of it on board. The full field of power generation and conversion is open for scavenging and creative power hacking.DARPA had a Grand Challenge. . . the rednecks a Cannonball Run. . . and the Auto X prize is still a year away. So in the meatime, NASA scientists and junkyard fabricators will go head-to-head in a no holds barred battle of engineering prowess and creative excess. Hanging somewhat in the balance are bragging rights for saving the world. That, and a grand prize of $10,000.Schedule:June 12th - Race begins at ALL Power Labs in Berkeley, CA. End and overnight in Parkfield, California, the Earthquake capital of the world.June 13th - 2nd leg start at Parkfield. End and overnight at El Mirage dry lake.June 14th - Day off at El Mirage dry lake for landspeed trials. Some EFB racers to run speed trials.June 15th - 3rd leg start at El Mirage. End at Salton Sea, California State Recreation Area.June 16th - 4th leg start at Salton Sea. End at the beach where the fence goes into the ocean at the Border Fields State Park, US Mexico Border."Some entries will arrive at the start line with extreme technical innovation. Others will arrive with only creative excess. The best entries, as well as the likely winners, will need to arrive with both." - Jim MasonNew York Times article on last year's race.

You may wonder why I didn't post a picture and that's because with a car this crappy, a photo is not needed. Just imagine the worst possible car and then picture a camel taking a dump in the trunk and you'll have a close approximation. You don't need to worry about me lying... it really is a POS. There is no risk of you getting over here and finding out it's really a gorgeous gem worth thousands... that doesn't happen...ever. But if for some reason that's actually happened to you, then you are acquainted with a crazy cosmic karma that has never thought to even piss in my face. I almost had a date on PlentyofFish and you know what happened? The f***ing AC died. For two years while I was not dating, it worked fine. The day after I get digits, the AC craps out. The car also has a weird hesitation problem that was not fixed even when I replaced the fuel filter. What could cause all of these things? Satan in the drive train...that's right... it's rare, but it happens to guys like me. This car is actually demon-possessed so you can forget about any sort of easy fix. Jesus said you need faith to cast out demons like this and believe me there are only two people on the planet that have that sort of faith. One guy lives in a cave in India and the other guy is dead. And you can forget about the guy in the cave helping you because, if you can find him, he's just going to tell you how physical setbacks are really spiritual blessings...blah blah blah...yada yada yada. Exactly. Don't expect sympathy from any motherf***er that sits around in his underwear in a cave. Other problems with this car include busted boots on the tie-rod ends, busted wheel hub boots, broken AC, leaking power steering system, ABS light always on, check-engine light comes on occasionally, driver window sometimes comes off the track, paint has permanent dirt in it (yes, it's f***ing permanent...you can't scrub it out with anything less than sandpaper or some highly explosive chemical that causes cancer in 49 states and erectile dysfunction in the 50th.) The car does drive, but that's about all it's good for. Good luck getting it to pass emissions. I've never tried as it's still registered in Clarke County. If you want to date, this car is probably not for you. On a positive note though, I can assure you no one has ever had sex in it. It would take a miracle to get a girl to even sit in this car, much less take her clothes off in it. Other possible uses for this car included entertainment at frat parties. You could charge people $5 a swing with a baseball bat, although you still probably wouldn't recover your investment. You might be able to sell it to the Mythbusters and get the to test the myth, "Is it possible that a car could really be this s***ty?" Adam Savage and Kari Byron will have a field day and close it off with "Myth f***ing confirmed" and a side comment from Kari about how whatever d*****bag use to own it must have never been laid. There are some positives like a beautiful Lumar 32% tint job, keyless entry with remote trunk release, an Alpine CD Player, and Pioneer speakers in the door. So at worst, you can sit in your driveway and listen to music with a bottle of Jergens and a picture of Eliza Dushku. I really wouldn't recommend taking it on the road until you replace the tie-rod ends. You might crash into a bus full of nuns and then the Pope will reign motherf***ing hail fire down on your betrodden a** with more fury than the inquisition because you actually decided to drive and be seen in such an amazing POS, killing 20 of his lovely Sisters. One other thing you might use this car would be pushing it off a cliff. If you've ever wanted to see what it's like first hand for a car to fall hundreds of feet and smash against rock, then here's your chance. Although don't be surprised if this demon-possessed sleigh from hell manages to f*** up your good time even in that bold scenario. I don't know how it would, but it would probably figure out a way. If there are any parents out there reading this, don't let your children fall into the situation I'm in. I would never have ended up with this car if I had pursued a real career. But instead I majored in math where the best job I can find now is up in Portland with a bunch of bran muffin eating hippies, jerking off Moose for 75 cents a smile for some wildlife conservation sperm bank. Let your kids do something with good with their future, like wait tables at Denny's. Oh yeah... it's white, 4 doors, and automatic. Whooptie-f***in-do!
