Rolling House

The Roll It is an experimental house design that was developed at the University of Karlsruhe. To use the house in a different way, just walk along the inside to roll it to create a new up and down. There's a bed, an exercise area, and even a kitchen with a sink. I really wish I could find an explanation of how that last one works. Roll It via Core77

Warehouse House

Ever since i was 12, i've wanted to live in a warehouse, 1000+ square feet. my plan would be to build an apartment (myself) on the inside, out or 2x4s, etc. I would build the inner house to code, insulate and heat it (so i wouldnt have to heat a million cubic feet), and just do all the stuff you can only do when you live in a warehouse. like ride a go-kart between your bedroom and kitchen, and have a trampoline in your living room. Now that i'm approaching the age of "hey, you're gonna be 23 soon, you'd better start thinking about a house", this is becoming more and more appealing to me. Anyone have any input on procedures, policies, zoning regulations, bills, etc? If (when) i do it, i'll most assuredly post an 'ible.

electric house windows

If windows could be closed and opened automatically, it could extensively help regulate inside air temperature- a big boon to those of us with no AC. Coupled into a remote-control house, it might reduce electrical consumption and/or increase comfort extensively. I am imagining an add-on to the type of windows that slide up and down; seems the type that opens with a crank would be very easy to retrofit, but they aren't very common, and not very insulating, in my experience.

Planning a puzzle house

In another year or so we're hoping to buy an "investment opportunity" house and, as we're fixing it up, I would LOVE to add a house-wide puzzle leading to a final prize.  Ideally the mystery would start with seemingly decorative scrabble tiles in the guest bathroom and take the players all over the house and garden.  I'd love for it to have three or four tracks that all need to be solved to get to the final prize, that way we can do them in installments (get track 1 up and running, then 2, etc) so friends can start playing sooner rather than later.  I'd also love at least two of the tracks to use only stuff that'll go with the house when sold, like the cabinets, garden rocks, etc, so that the next owners can continue the game. I've started collecting ideas and would love to hear more.  The only limit is to please keep your ideas doable - while it would be fantastic to, say, have a wall slide away to reveal a secret underground cave I'm not so certain we can dig one of those out in our spare time.   Inspiration for all this comes mainly from the Myst games (ah, Riven, how I loved thee!) and this puzzle apartment in New York.

Melodic House Music

Hi guys! I figured I might try sharing what I've made here. Recently I've gotten the full version of FL Studio and during some spare time, I enjoy composing my own music. I mainly stick to the Melodic House genre, as it is my favourite type of music. Anyhow, here's my most recent project, I've worked for quite some time on this one, and I think its pretty good, at least in my opinion. Could you guys tell me what you think, and perhaps some tips and stuff to work on for my next composition. It really would mean a lot, thanks and I hope you enjoy. Also, for those of you who have FL, I wouldn't mind giving tips as well! https://soundcloud.com/koolcoasterkid/dimensions There are also 2 other recent songs on my Soundcloud channel, if you are interested as well.

A small house on a roof?

Hiya all! I sometimes go to my grandmother's house, and there is an abandoned Karate club or something near it. Recently, I got bored so I went outside. I circled around that building a couple of times, and I noticed that I can climb to it's roof! It's not too high, about only 5 meters or so. The roof is awesome! It's flat, and then I came up with an awesome idea - how about building a small house there? Just for the fun of it, it could be an awesome place to come with friends. I need the floor to be at least 2x2 meters, height 1.5-2 meters. I need the house to be made of cheap and available materials. Got any ideas?

Sustainable housing development

Is there anyone that has gone through the process of setting up a sustainable housing development, preferably in Australia, but would be happy to learn of some expriences elsewhere. I've built my own house but am now considering to setup a project to build more efficiently - perhaps get 15 to 20 people together and buy a larger piece of land which would be lot more efficient to build on - with share facilities etc.

House hold heating? Answered

Like most UK houses my thermostat is in the coldest part of the house - The entrance hall. Although I have recently fitted thermostatic valves fitted to all radiators I can't help but feel the heating would be more effective if I simply controlled the temperature in the room we spend most time in during the evening- The lounge. I guess this would mean the rest of the house would be cooler than at present but that isn't really a problems for us. Is there any reason, anyone knows, not to do this? Has anyone gone down the smart thermostat route? https://nest.com/uk/thermostat/life-with-nest-thermostat/ New high efficiency condensing boiler Thermostatic radiator valves through the house High level of insulation to walls and roof. White House #weekofmaking

Coby Unger is at the White House and the Faire today representing Instructables, so say hi if you see him! He's there with 9-year-old Aidan Robinson to present their amazing collaboration: the superhero arm. (If you've never seen this 'ible I promise you'll be inspired by it: a playful prosthetic arm that's designed to grow with its wearer, and that supports interchangeable, task-specific attachments to help Aidan not only do everyday tasks but also play his favorite games.) Are you planning any projects for the White House's #weekofmaking, or maybe even going to D.C. Maker Faire?

Electronics Plastic housing

I have a plastic housing for a VCR with some molded-in markings on the inside. *There is a circle with an arrow inside and two numbers outside. "1207" & "1208" The arrow is pointing to "1207" *There is a circle with an arrow inside and the numbers 0-9 on the outside. The arrow is pointing to "4" *There is a circle with an arrow inside and the numbers 0-3 on the outside. The arrow is pointing to "0" *There is a circle with an arrow inside and the letters A-H on the outside. The arrow is pointing to "B" *There are also two charts that has letters on the left and what looks like names of pigment colors on the right column. Some of the right side fields are blank. *There is another chart with "00", "99", and "98" on the y-axis and the numbers 1-9, 0, and the letters "N" and "D" on the x-axis. There are two markings - one at the intersection of "99" and "1" and another at "99" and "2". Does anybody know what these markings mean? I've seen similar markings on other bits of plastic electronic housing. I imagine that they explain the material that the housing is made of , but what do they mean? Anybody know? Have any ideas?

In the living room we have small office area with computer and printer where smells very strong. Also this smell is in the kitchen, in the bedroom, all over the apartment. I am the only one that can smell it. It is not paint. The refrigerator works ok, the stove is electric and the furnace is turned off.  The Consumers checked for gas, but there was non. Who should I call in order to come and detect where  this smell is coming from?

Sydney Opera House on wheels!

I live in a semi-rural area.  We are hours from a decent motorway, but hip-deep in caravan parks. Given the UK law that limits trailers to 50mph, I am generally disapproving of anything towed. However, this trailer tent designed by Axel Enthoven is a thing of beauty and luxury. The Opera trailer tent has features including central heating, teak flooring (and a veranda!), ceramic toilet, electrically adjustable twin beds (which can be joined into a double), kitchen sink (of course), onboard water boiler (which supplies a fountain?), fridge and low-energy LED lighting “from awning to floor” (yes there are uplights!). Unfortunately, beauty has a price - €24,000 puts it in the price-range of campers with engines and no restriction to 50mph... Your Suite in Nature via Notcot.

Energy underneath your house?

Hi all! I've being thinking on how to get off grid for a while now, in the first stage to use solar power to get the energy bills go down and in second place to get my stamp on earths energy consumption, using my house in a greener way. So solar energy and wind energy are on my mind, but recently i started to think about more possibilities. Like using my crawlspace to work for me. Maybe its posible to make a wind turbine underneath the house, or use the constant temperature to cool my house during summer. I've seen plans on the internet ( and cant find them anymore... ) about using a sort off vacuum chamber that has a constand wind flow comming in, trough a system of pipes that drive a wind turbine inside. The idea is that, because of the vacuum effect, you need only a small gust of wind to power the turbine. Where i live theres always wind, sometime a little, sometimes waaay to much. The crawlspace i have isnt that high, about 50CM in hight, and during the Fall and Winter months theres a high level of water, about 25CM. Durring summer its mostly muddy sand, so there's stil a lot off cool water trapt in there. So about the idea on cooling my house, how about a water cooling system that runs trough the house? How would you guys make such systems, have you already tryed this out, and are there some enthousiastic folks out there willing to go all the way and show these idea's are doable, so everyone can make it??? Hope to hear from you soon ;-) Greets, Arie

Alternative Energies house hookup?

I was wondering if there is a name for a specific term.  I want to create a wind or water turbine using old PC fans and rectifier diodes (which i have successfully done before).  I intend to create many of these and hopefully hook them to my house which is currently still on the main grid.  But i was wondering this.  Is there a way that i can hook up the output wires from the diodes (where the useful energy comes from) to a battery bank (which i have also created) and then make it so that when those are full, it supplies the extra occasional energy from the wind turbine, to any part of the house that might need it? and then when the power goes out the batteries kick in?   If not, is there a way i can make it so the batteries will fully charge off the wind turbine, then when fully charged, they will kick in and supply power to part of my house until they run out, and then allow it to switch back to the main grid while the wind tubines recharge the batteries? I have a large house so i know that my house can never be completely 24/7 dependant on wind/solar/water power.
