3D Modeling Program?

I have some ideas for a project I want to build, but I'd let to sketch it out in 3D form and create a model. Are there programs that can do this? I'd prefer free ones, but I guess I can shell out a few bucks if needed. I basically just need somewhere to put my thoughts into a 3D design so I can view what I'm actually building.

3D Computer Modeling Answered

I would like to make a short video with some basic CGI in it. Basically I just want to overlay a moving 3D model (Possibly a flying creature) onto some prerecorded video.  Can anyone recommend an easy program I can use to make a moving 3D model? I tried Blender but it is too complicated, so if you could recommend a simple editor that would be great.

realistic model water?

I have a model PT boat 109 ( in 1/72 scale) and the propellers are broken. I figure the best way to do this is to just throw the boat in a diorama scene, so it is at the waterline. Can anyone help, because I have no idea how to do the water, and i was wondering if there was any realistic water things that I can make at home, or buy for pretty cheap.

Model sailboat for teaching?

Hello, I work at a Boy Scout Camp over the summer, and one of the merit badges we teach is Small Boat Sailing.  Most of the merit badge goes smoothly, but kids seem to have a hard time with points of sail.  Our plan is to make a small model to put in a tub of water and use a handheld fan to demonstrate the effect the wind will have on the boat at different angles and sail positions.  Any tips on this?  I tried finding models that were accurate, but they were out of our price range.  I want the sail and mast to be able to rotate smoothly, and the mainsheet to be able to be locked and unlocked.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R artifacts models?

Hi, I'm looking for someone making artifacts from S.T.A.L.K.E.R games. I'm going to make some models of them, so I'm just looking for someone, who tried to make some? Does anybody have any perception? For example, which materials are good, which are not. I'm want it for larp action next year. I tried plastic (polystyrene), but it's so fragile. I wanna try melt PET plastic from bottles. Glass is absolutely unuseable. Some tips for transparent, solid material, which is easy to obtain and work with it? If someone tried to make some models of artifacts, send photo :) Thanks

cardboard 3d models

First, you'd have to be very careful not to cut yourself (a leather glove to hold the piece helps). If you print the pieces for a cardboard model, instead of cutting, it'll look better if the pieces are sliced. These are the steps that I take: 1. After printing the models, I cut the pieces leaving 1/8 to 1/4 white space along the edges. 2 I use 12/24 pack cardboard from soft drinks (the cardboard from hot pockets works also, but its harder to cut) 3. use a glue stick to transfer the pieces to your cardboard and roll any round object to remove any bubbles. 4. when dry use a pair of scissors to cut the pieces. 5. lay the template face down on your material and use a pen to trace the outline. if using cardboard, use a box cutter blade and slice the parts out, slicing to the line of adjacent pieces. For slots, cut the width thru the cardboard, and slice the required length. Use an exact-o knife to cut the ends, flip over and trim. I've built over a dozen models and my three grandchildren love them.

Blender modelling question? Answered

Hello, I have two objects on the screen. When I select one and press G, a large circle appears which alters both objects when I grab; this has not happened before. I know that I must have pressed a shortcut by mistake but I cannot seem to find an answer on the Googles. I've even gone through the process of pressing each key. Could someone tell me how to return to normal.  Thanks EDIT; When I say normal , I mean, I need to get the Grab cursor back to normal( at the moment when I try to use it, it is a big circle, that effects everything it touches, rather than just the object that i want to move).

Anybody want to model "reflux" in the circulatory system? Physical model or computer pipe model!

My wife just had an amazing success when we went down to Newport Beach, California to get venoplasty to relieve many of  her symptoms following a stroke.  http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLkzXlmAwZTZfQ01RnN-8Ip5lUz0HrNWzN  We pay for national medical insurance in Canada and this treatment is not covered.  (Even though it clearly works, )   One road block is that an expert doctor here could not find any evidence of reflux in blood flow to or from the brain.  (Some MS patients have damaged valves in their neck veins).  Now, given that each heart beat raises blood pressure from 1.5 psi to 2.3  psi about once every second and that valves are actuated by the blood flowing backwards, I find the "expert doctor's" results impossible to believe.  I am not totally without knowlege in that area either because I made a low pressure airlift pump this year  that has a much higher lift submergence ratio than the normal ones.  (The airlift in a bucket one). I was told that the maximum  lift to submergence in these things was probably not much more that 10 to 1 but I managed to get over 20 to 1 lift to submergence primarly by reducing reflux.    Also, I observed that the effects of this reflux can extend conciderable distances from the "valve" itself and are different in small tubes than in big tubes.  Therefore it is possible (Likely even) that a damaged valve in a persons jugular will have its primary effect in a capallery somewhere in the brain up to a foot away from the damaged valve.  So if someone made this model, I think it is likely that they can contribute to the rapid advancement of medical science!   Brian White

Hi, I am the art director on a very low-budget but so-far amazing movie. I want to make an inexpensive but professional looking model of an observatory. So far, I am thinking of using sculpey. Penny model paper planes

In years past I had some printable model paper airplanes that looked like real planes, were aerodynamically shaped, had a penny in the nose for weight, and glided quite well. I have lost the folder in moving classrooms, and I can't seem to find them using google. Has anyone ever heard of these, and have a possible source? My favorite one was an older MIG.

Making a 3D DNA model

Hi, I was thinking about trying to make one of those 3D DNA models you see in schools, showing all the atoms in the molecules joined together and climbing up in that beautiful double helix shape.Trouble is, I don't have the money to spend on one of those several-hundred-dollar kits, and I can't figure out exactly how a single nucleotide should look, let alone how to make several dozen nucleotides and joining them all together.I've searched google without much success, so any pointers/helpful guide images would be very much appreciated. Thanks

small scale model boxes? Answered

I'm working on a diorama that has my local model shop in it, so i figured that, even though the windows are tinted, i can at least put some models and stuff laying around... so i could make paper model boxes. i have the dimensions, but i have two problems. 1) i don't know how to transfer my calculations (1cm x0.7cm x0.4cm) to the computer, and 2) i dont know how to make the model boxes 1/24 smaller without losing virtually al the detail... obviously im not looking for something perfect, but i also dont want the box top to be some random coloured pixels. can someone help with this? i could draw them, but i was hoping to offer these to other people, by making an instructable.

[Help] Custom sounds for model

I've created a resin cast of a gun (raygun) from a video game (Black ops 2) and as part of making it as authentic as possible I would like to have it emit sounds I've pulled from the game at the press of a button, much like a toy gun. I don't know where to go with the idea from here. I would like something that's relatively easy to hear and not too quite and powered by batteries. If someone could point me in the right direction as far as parts I would need to achieve this I would appreciate it.

3D Model Maker (CNC)

I don' t have the technical or computer skills to make this happen, but I'll bet someone out there does. I've heard of and read about these polymer 3d model makers and I understand that a few colleges have them. I know that one in my area does, as it was reported in the local newspaper. I also understand that they are quite expensive. I've seen the Instructables for some 2D routing tables, and even a couple for 3D work, using a hot glue gun or some other flexible material for building the model. Crude results, comparatively speaking, but impressive from the standpoint of the home hobbyist.  I've recently learned of a product called Solarez, which is a UV curing resin for fiberglass work. No limits on the working time of the resin, no gelling up in the middle of a job, it seems like a dream for complex fiberglass projects. Put it in the sun and three minutes later, it's fully cured. There are videos on YouTube for the fiberglassing aspect of things. They are not as exciting as the Instructables, but they are instructional. I plan to use Solarez in my future fiberglass projects, but I have a quart of very expensive epoxy resin to use up first. I figure if you fill an aquarium with Solarez and put a Z-axis table at the bottom, and a 2D UV laser on the top, you've got exactly the same thing for which others are paying thousands of dollars. I don't know how strong the Solarez would be in a stand-alone construction and I doubt that the manufacturer of Solarez intended it to be used in this manner, nor do I know how the stuff would react to a UV laser, and if it is practical from an elapsed time frame of reference. Again, I don't have the tech skills, nor even the need for such a device, but I think it's within the skill set of some of the more talented Instructable builders here. Just some random thoughts...
